Not appealing enough to bring you back to play it, especially due to the vast amount of better shmups on steam.

hmmm, what should I say.....oh yeah, this game is not good, but not bad either (I'll give this a "mixed" in mind, but I'll give thumbs up here), though it is great if it's treated as pass-time activity, I got hooked to the game quite easily (pls, don't treat me any lower ಥ_ಥ), even though the artworks and animations aren't very alluring. Overall, this is a 5.5/10

Well, i thought this game would be on the brown side of crap. I mean for a buck what can you expect? Well, i was definetly proven wrong. There is a really good schmup here with plenty of enemies to waste and lots of upgrades to be had. Story is pretty standard save the planet from baddies etc etc but gameplay is solid and fun. One life and that's it though. See how far you can get. Buy it...i mean c'mon it's a freakin' dollar for heaven's sake! I've seen worse games going for way more coin. 7/10 for a great effort.

Goofy but entertaining. A few unfair segments, but if you have any shmup chops at all you should be able to clear it on Easy if not Normal.

I really like this game however It do take a lot of engine power to run for some reason. Even though it is just an updated and advanced space invaders. A thing you can do to up your playthrough of this is skipping the cut scene because they almost take a dump on the rest of the game.

TLDR: Neon. Low quality 3D touhou/invaders hybrid of bundlefodder quality. Lacks elegance. Chaotic encounter design. Nausea.

Between the damage numbers popping up, the large explosions, the neon lasers, the primitive moving 3D backgrounds and the literal spam of ships that make a huge portion of the screen. This game has little in terms of refinement. You hold attack button stare at your hitbox and dodge until you get the level completed message. There is a tad of progression in the form of perk and customizable attack pattern style but there is no art to it. I found that taking things with wider attack arcs made most sense given the saturation of enemies on screen.

There are little briefings that are not voice acted, with text scrolling and little 3D portraits pretending to talk but all the missions end up more or less looking the same, except with bigger ships and more spam as you progress. Eventually you also face large robots which I guess was a good idea.

Conclusion: The game works as intended, has multiple difficulty levels and should be approchable enough. I found it too repetitive and the nausea from the camera sway and the 3D really took away from the enjoyability personally. There is a huge saturation of competing titles that have done this formula better so I would advise to look elsewhere.

Savior's is a solid bullet-hell / shoote-em-up game with much higher production values than I'm used to seeing in the japanese-indie entries to this genre. The levels have a good variety of enemies and mechanics, making each feel relatively unique and interesting to play. The soundtrack is great, the controls are responsive. It does't revolutionize the genre, but it's a solid entry.

The game features 18 levels and a good 6 boss fights, enough for a solid 45min of gameplay on normal mode. Except for the last boss, nothing really poses much challenge on easy mode (I downed all the other bosses on my first attempt), so you may need to crank it up to hard if you're looking for some serious pressure.

The one thing I didn't like about this game was the "Arcade Mode". There are 3 modes of play available, Story, Survival, and Arcade. Story mode provides a bunch of text I didn't read and a level+upgrade system vaguely reminicent of Tyrian. Survival takes away the pointless storyline, limits your ship choices, and forces you to use a preset configuration. Arcade... well.. arcade plays almost exactly like survival mode except it spams your screen with irrelevant glowing nonsense you don't even need to pick up, making it visually confused and hard to play. And there are no power ups. What's arcade mode with no power ups?!?

What's great about this game:

* wide variety of enemies and mechanics
* responsive controls
* high production value
* great sound track
* ridiculously under-priced

What's holding it back:

* boss difficulty could be tuned up a bit in normal
* controller required, no mouse support
* the arcade mode stinks

This is truly a buried treasure among space shooters on Steam-at $2 this is an absolute bargain for a solid game. There are multiple play modes, plenty of secrets to unlock, and a challenging although short story mode (you can easily beat each character's story in under an hour). Good soundtrack too. Highly recommended.

This is a pretty decent bullet hell shmup. The story and graphics aren't very good, but close your eyes on that and enjoy the beautiful gameplay mechanics, that will make you wanna scratch your eyes out. At first you'll be very confused about how it works and what to do, so just play and learn, it's really fun! (No, not fun at all, NOT FUN AT ALL AAAAAAAA)

To get all medals in the game you'll have to go through nine cirlces of hell:
• memorising enemy patters
• memorising level patterns
• learning to kill enemies late enough to keep Break mode (combo)
• learning to kill enemies early enough not to get swarmed
• getting better at bullet hell if you aren't a god yet
• learning to use each mode's gameplay mechanics to your advantage
• learning to keep track of 1000000 things at once
• shit, that's only 7
• so um, yeah

If you're into all that, go for it.

Don't let my playtime and lack of achievements fool you. I actually had played this for hours through Anarchy Arcade.

Meh. Fun game, but there are flash games that are the same thing, but with more content and more customizability.

goqbert

This is a low budget and not particularly polished shmup, that reminds me of some of the older PC titles like "Raptor" or "If it moves shoot it", but maybe more bullet-hell than those. There's decent length, and decent weapons that you can upgrade between levels. And there's a story....of some kind, with some truly terrible faces mouthing out the text such as it is. It is easily (and wisely) skipped.

I found the game just ok. Much of the time you are just going through the motions and that's it. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, it is just all so dry and "meh" for me anyways, and not very compelling. I've had trouble finding the sweet spot between "too easy" and "impossible to avoid stuff" . Ymmv.

Overall it's cheap, and adds value to a bundle for sure, but doesn't really stand out for me when there are so many other titles out there.

100% would recommend SAVIORS (or Star Saviors, it seems it's called both ways). Whatever, it's an SPACESHIPS-VERTICAL SCROLL-SHOOTEMUP addictive game and if you are into shooters/ shootemup shooters / retro arcade / etc-etc games but still thinking whether SAVIORS is worth that euro/dolar you wanna spend on pew-pew-pews, the answer is yes.

I had yesterday an itch for a shmup arcade shooter and 2 euros on my steam account (US friends can make the easy change 1 euro =1 dolar -march 2019-, UK friends have bigger problems 'rite now and should be playing EUROPA UNIVERSALIS or FROSTPUNK), so I made a search with tags "shoot em up" and "arcade". There's like 10-15 chances for a 2 euro budget, some of them even completely free and I finally decided to go for SAVIORS. Another game I'm keeping in mind, that is to say: "wishlisting" is SUPER CROME: BULLET PURGATORY, another vertical scroll shmup on easy access by now.

**Some Features**

- SAVIORS has primary (front) and secondary (sides) shooting, primary (bullets) and sec (rockets, so far) weapons, and a shield that regenerates.

- Controls are perfect, I think that's one common worry by small budget games, so don't worry, it's not clunky.

- Graphics are a 7/10 (for this kind of games), music is also cool, it doesn't feel at all like a cheap thing.

- I haven't played so much atm, so I can tell much about the bosses, I was trying to beat the first one and then started to write this review, and that's wat I am doing after I finish writing it :D.

SAVIORS is, like I said at the beginning, addictive. It is fun to play it and one wants more and more. And that's what a good game is.

pretty decent shump for it's price, not as flashy as the standard japanese bullet hell, but the 3d of the ship models and the animated background is pretty decent, the ships move well, the bosses have some diversity to them and the soundtrack is fitting. negative points: the menus could use some usability improvements and the character models are horrible.

haozertree

Used to play Cave bullet hell games and gave this game a try on the whim. Pretty good bullet hell game, especially bosses and later stages. The bullet patterns are rather fun and you will definitely get better the more you play. While the character modeling during the dialog portion is pretty bad, the game itself is pretty good. The story mode of the game allows you to customize your ship, while arcade and survival modes give you set of around 10 pre-configured ships to choose from. Unlike most shumps there are no bombs in this game which destroy all bullets on the screen, so you must force yourself to focus. Definitely recommended.

Honestly this is probably the best bullet hell game I've ever played. I'm not great at these games but I was able to beat easy with only dying a handful of times. It took about 2 hours and with the upgrades and the saving after each level it felt fun from beginning to end. If you don't have a huge steam back log you're trying to beat like me, you could easily spend a long time playing different difficulties, challenges, and there's plenty of achievements to try to get. Highly recommend.

Not neccesarily a bad game, but bad for competitive STG terms...
The game feels just... a bit empty, with no real soul in it, it's not bad, because I have tried a lot worse, but not really good either...
I got for I think what? 5 Mexican pesos on a offer? (like 25 cents lol) and for that price I don't even feel scammed, I pay around 12 pesos for a bottle of Dr. Pepper, so it was a good deal for what the game actually offers...

Do I recommend it?

Not bad game, but it's too hard for me.

Pros:
+ Hard core shooting game.
+ Attractive story.
+ Good musics.

+ Various weapons.
+ Beautiful explosion.

Cons:
- The UI of battle (right side) is very rough.
- Poor 3D character models without expression.

I feel bad writing about how shitty Star Saviors is, because it’s clear that whoever made it had a vision for what they wanted to make, and that real effort really did go into making it happen. Unfortunately, between buggy gameplay, massive rambling intermissions between said gameplay, and some of the ugliest 3D graphics in decades, that vision has clearly not been accomplished.

When I say I think effort’s gone into this, what I mean is that the writer for all this text clearly cared a great deal about telling their story - even the trading cards have massive descriptions for each individual spaceship. This person obviously enjoys their weirdly detailed sci-fi universe, but unfortunately for them I don’t think this game is very compelling at all for anybody else, and unless you’re so obsessed with bullet hell shooters that you need to play every last one to be able to sleep at night, I’d recommend avoiding this.

agriba
agriba

These style of games pretty much speak for themselves and require no additional explanation. It's exactly what it looks like and that's fun.

The only thing left to do is compare it to other examples in the genre. And Saviors is average. Which is still fun. But you might want to play some of the better games and then come back to this one if you want more of that kind of gameplay.

5/10

Solaire of Astora

This game isn't bad, expecially not for the price tag. However instead of ugly 3D model faces they should have used some cartoon drawn faces instead.
However the gameplay is solid for an arcade 2D shooter!

Sir Wilfred

First impression is terrible. Game will not allow me to switch to controller as an option (controller works on all other games I have), even after reinstalling. Bullet hell keyboard gameplay is the worst. Will change this is the developer offers assistance on this issue.

Obey the Fist!
Obey the Fist!

This is a 3D rendered 2D top down vertical scrolling shmup with a minor gimmick added, from time to time as you progress through each level, it will "roll" or change orientation so you're fighting on a different 2D plane, and that's more than a graphical effect as the enemies will also roll/change position as you re-orient. This doesn't happen too often and it did seem kind of cool when it happened. You get to upgrade your weapons and choose which weapon set you take into each level.

The graphics are fairly mediocre here and the gameplay, apart from the gimmick, is not different from most shmups. The game supports 4K graphics, has some control remapping and a few graphics tweaks so it does meet the minimum standard for PC. One big problem is that there's no mouse control, and trying to play this with keyboard only is painful if you want to really get into it. You would absolutely need to use an Arcade joy/button controller or maybe a console peasant pad to play this seriously.

The guys did quite a few things right here. This is one of those rare situations where I wish Steam had a "maybe" option because the price is fairly reasonable for what you get, but the shortcomings are just enough that I can't in good conscience recommend this to other gamers as it is.

At-A-Glance:

Game type: Shoot-em-up
Genre(s): Bullet hell
Art: Mid-level 3D modeling
Length: 2-3 hours (story mode); 20+ hours (other modes)
Pace: Fast-paced
Tags: Space shooter, science fiction, aliens
Computer requirements: Low end

Notes:

    • At the time of writing, this game is $2 USD. Absolutely worth the purchase on that alone.
    • This game runs on pretty much anything. I played this on my 2019 no-frills laptop and had no slowdown whatsoever. That's pretty great considering how much goes on the screen.
    • I'm not much of a bullet hell person, and in fact this game languished in my Steam library for years until I decided to try it out. I had a great time! While I'm not as into the extra modes, the story mode was absolutely enough for the kind of fast-paced fun I was wanting.
    • Only at very few points did the game feel a little RNG-heavy, which is pretty solid. For those curious, it's the UFO fight that you get an achievement for beating. Sometimes annoying, but enough loud-out options to feel good.
    • You can progressively customize your fighter with various perks as you level up - which is cool - but I don't know how much the perks would actually change gameplay.
    • ... on the other hand, the weapons definitely changed how I played the game. I liked the high damage burst shots combined with lasers. I'm not sure if that's the meta build, but it fit my preferred playing style well. Nice!
    • 100 achievements for your achievement hunters to get eye-twitchy over.
    • The character models are super ugly - like, camped directly in the middle of the uncanny valley. I'm kind of impressed actually; it's almost a work of art.
    • The story is forgettable, and the characters are very annoyingly jerkish. But if you're playing a bullet hell space shooter, you're probably not here for the story anyway. Just skip the mission briefings.

It's honestly shocking how good this game is despite the low price tag. It's a bullet hell game, and I swear the difficulty ranges from hard-ish to impossible. There's a lot of different game modes, but at the end of the day, they're the same levels with different mechanics. I personally enjoy story mode, since it allows you to level up and put points into upgrades as you progress. It's got good graphics, controller support, plus cards and an endless pit of achievements. If you're a fan of bullet hell, or games that get so hard they make you want to rage quit, go ahead and pick it up. After all, it only takes a few hours to get your money's worth, and then it's a fun game in your library that you'll come back to every once in a while to remember what it feels like to suffer.
