Always wantad a Freelancer 2 game and I think this is as close as possible...
But the jank...oh my god the jank and the awful main character...

could be a san solo type of game has good gameplay just let down by a very few jutters in the story cutscenes but once its playing its really smooth

I had fun despite the overwhelming amount of bugs.
Fun:
-Nice space combat(dogfights)
-Ships,Weapons Design is nice (Freelancer memories)
-Campaign is nice in story, comical in delivery.

NOT Fun:
-Countless bugs in Campaign(no respond for mission ending, reload whole missions)
-Bug's where you cant damage enemy ships cos you don't attack them in order the imagined it
-Bad AI where you can avoid some of the "BOSS" shots or outrun them forcing you to use absurd amount of consumables
-Space wast and wide, but not if you have quest/mission then it's in a sphere of 2 km radius from imaginary point
-No tutorial that tells you that you have and unrealistic and fairly realistic movement by pressing "X"(key board)
-interesting but badly executed off ship salvages by drone,or unavoidable campaign missions with drone

I enjoyed previous games in the franchise, and honestly I just can't help but wonder what happened with this one. It feels more like a joke or a parody of the earlier games.

Dialogue and voice acting are laughable. Ship options are extremely limited. The combat and flight for the smaller craft is nice, but you're essentially limited to fighters and similar. Capital ships are technically in the game, but only after the campaign is completed, and the controls for them aren't great; they very much feel like an after thought.

Game feels smaller. Fewer QOL benefits; a lot of my play time has just been flying from buoy to buoy to get around. Menu and UI are often confusing and unclear.

The unskippable drone levels are dull and sometimes frustrating.

It just felt like a real step down from prior games.

Unfortunately, like many others, I have to write that the game has been abandoned.

There is no more support. No bugs are fixed anymore.

Communication with the company does not take place even with the other Starpoint games.

Absolute sourness

Edit : I tried to reach them via their support email.... No answer.
i.e. they don't give a damn about bugs and the buyers

I'm a true Freelancer fan. I've never found a game like Freelancer and I've tried many. This is the closest match for Freelancer I could find. In most ways this game is even better than Freelancer, but there are areas where Freelancer is / was unbeatable.

However its a: nice, convenient and easy game to get into. Just check the key chart under options and you can go... The graphics and movement control are very good. Fun space fights. Space flights are not too far. Its open world or scripted story: great. The in-space-background-chatting is not great, but one can easily ignore that. its a very clean, tidy, fun game, easy to learn and with allot of play depth potential.

My favourite space game, since Freelancer.

Is this a finished polished game. No
Is this game fun. Kind of.
Will this game annoy you. Yes looking at you cargo hold space. this can be fixed with mods
Are the guns balanced. kind of. you will be limited by energy and battery size, recommend modding this as will. More energy more Daka.
Why i recommend the game. its a brain dead game in the arcade style which i do enjoy and you can play it brain dead. picking this game up at £15-£20 (or your regional equivalent cost) is worth it and will be fun for a good 20 Hours.

Disappointing.
(1) Graphics - After playing with good graphics in SP Gemini 1&2, you're downgraded to PlayStation 2 graphics in this game.
(2) Disappointing Weapons - You don't even have the ability to use particle "laser" cannons, as opposed to the previous iterations.
(3) Story - The story/campaign is incredibly short. After the campaign, you're stuck chasing after a shipyard hardly anyone (to date) knows how to get to.
(4) One Positive Thing - This game reminds me of one of my favorite games, 'Freelancer' (Digital Anvil 2003). It's almost a mirror version to it... graphics, mission grinding, and all.

I wanted to like this, it is in my wheelhouse and I enjoyed the previous LGM games. The game play is no bad but repetitive but the story is so generic it must have been bought at Walmart. It is all I can do to take time to get through the terrible choices made in the voice acting to get through the story. I see no replay value in the sandbox and the mod community gave up when the developers did. What a shame.

Mario Mihokovic — 10/23/2021
Hello everyone! First of all, I apologize in the name of entire team for being silent. We didn't really have any great news to share, and lots of things have been happening in chain events. But, it is only fair to let you all know our current status. In short - our team is still here, but following a series of hard hits we received (pandemic, earthquake, SPG3 complications in development), combined with bad results from our last game... we're going through a significant reconstruction. Following all past events, team is now greatly reduced, as well as our overall logistics. We are trying to adapt to see what road ahead is possible. I'll be honest and say that at this point, I can't honestly say what plans for SPG3 we will be able to advance. A number of things was planned, but I can't promise if that will be feasible anymore. Thank you all for support and your interest, and I apologize again for being quiet. You deserve an honest answer, and we will update you as soon as we know it ourselves. All of our plans were based on asumption that SPG3 will go at least decently, and our team will remain as it was. Neither unfortunately happened, so we definitely need a new plan, if we can organize one that sticks...It wouldn't be fair to throw promises we're not sure about.... Hope coming months will be more positive then recent ones. To all of us!

An enjoyable but somewhat shallow space combat game. My biggest technical concern is the lack of a quicksave function, which would replace what now requires about four mouse clicks. There is no reason for this not to have been included. Also, there are radiation zones that will quickly kill you regardless of your shield type or perk levels. What is the point of these zones? Perhaps I will learn once I get one of those capital ships that are only available once the story is complete.

Yes, the voice acting is a bit cheesy.
But the flight and the weapons are pure FREELANCER.

The game grows on you.

And Star Citizen will never come out.

It's not as big or as epic per say as the last games....and his seems to have taken a turn from massive space, sheer amount of factions, and even the sheer amount of ships, weapons, well...ok a lot of the things that makes Starpoint.....starpoint seem to be missing in this. There is a worrisome lack of fleet functions, a lack of lock on to a destination and walk away or....enjoy your surroundings while the ship auto-pilots to were you mark (the backgrounds were sometimes just awe inspiring and i loved sightseeing without having to worry about flight to a station ^^) before i go on a total rant....yes the game is good it is fun.....but...in it's current state....this game doesn't hold a candle to warlords or even the second game with the sheer amount of things you can do or ships to be. Heck i admit for a long time i was just your run of the mill scrapper and enjoyed it. ^^ I mean the fact you could be all kinds of things was what drew me.

Pros:
- The game lets you do what you want (mine, missions, etc)
- The steam guides on their store page explain what isn't clear i.e. how to salvage (you have to shoot derelicts to salvage
loot).
-Looting using a disembodied ship as probe is unique and adds a little bit of change to the regular flow.

Cons:
- The dialog and background chatter isn't great, but I've heard worse and eventually you get used to captain bold and his ship companion. It's a bit like listening to the humor of Three's company (if you're old enough to remember that show).

tl;dr it's fun and with the options you have to in addition to the reasonable way they manage save games, non-rage inducing when things get dicey in combat. I'm keeping the game and will enjoy playing it.

i really like this game. it's a lot better than some of those reviews. granted it's not as thorough as previous versions. but the writing is brilliant. really funny interactions.

Dirty Wizard

This game has a lot of features that should be fun, but are just implemented so badly that they range from boring to annoying. Exploring wrecks should be fun, but it's boring because it's so easy, slow, and repetitive. Hunting pirates should be fun, but the combat is so poorly balanced it's either annoying or boring. Accepting missions from shady characters in bars should be fun, but you get no choices or details about the missions and they're basically all the same.

I would love to play a Freelancer style game where you get to explore wrecks, hunt pirates, dogfight, trade, and mine, but this is not that game.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS SMALL SHIP HITBOX IN ANY GAME EVER.

Been trying to shoot a ship at close distance and head on for over 3 mins cant even get a hit to land on it.

I dont get it dear dev, this is your third games. How did you make your game worst than your previous game?

Warlander

This game is about as much of a waste of time you can get, I have never played the other Gemini games, and since most complaints were that it was different I gave it a shot. It is the most boring incomplete game i have ever played. I could put up with the terrible voice acting, and the graphics are lovely, combat is ok, but just a boring empty world with nothing to do. After you finish the story you get access to a grind for bigger ships, but who cares because theres nothing to do! such garbage.

I've been thinking about buying this game for a year. Looking at the comments and cries of many players, I hesitated to add this item to my library.
What can I tell you:
This is definitely not SG1 or SG2 and definitely not SG Warlords.
The game is more like the weaker version of Elite Dengerous or the X Rebirth and Rebel Galaxy series.
It has a lot of hidden flavors without the laborious exploration, there is no point in investing in this game.
However, despite these pointless cries of other players.
I am glad that I bought this item and I have to admit that the game is in the Starpoint Gemini universe, but it is different than the previous parts. The game world is definitely 1/2 bigger than SG Warlords.
The game offers a relaxed and fun pastime. Surprisingly, the campaign has a rather funny storyline.
At the moment, I am on YES and I do not regret the money spent.

Noobnoob

So I tried to enjoy the campaign in this game, but literally hours without even coming close to death. The game is easy even at its hardest level. I would say it's okay, but not great and I can understand where the mixed reviews come from. The story is really pathetic, just bad all around, I wrote better plots in eighth grade than what's present here. The controls are easy, but keybinds are awkward, I mean F1? What game uses F1 these days? Is it a bad game? No, but it definitely isn't a great game either. That's the rub, it lies somewhere in between. I bought it on sale, so I don't regret my purchase, but at this time I don't think it warrants full price.

Grizzly_of_Aus
Grizzly_of_Aus

ok so this is is a wierd one to review because the first 2 games as far as ive seen you can get massive dreadnoughts and if you build it right you can just own the field.
but this one has you flying whats essentially a fighter .
to liken it to another game. its like Warhammer: dawn of war and Warhammer: spacemarine.
the difference is that much that i understand that some people wont like it but personally i like the idea of a fighter taking on larger and larger ships and leaving them all as scrap.

Danatz
Danatz

I tried to give it a shot. This is just barely playable. Voice acting, art, story (dafuq is that all about???). It's just plain bad. SG2 and Warlords were better games. Not perfect but light years more advanced compared to this hilariously bad game. This just feels like a half baked indie game made for PS3.

leemug
leemug

Loved it. I enjoyed SG1 and Warlords but this is better. The graphics are so so and the voice acting wouldn't win any oscars but the game doesn't take itself seriously and is just plain fun.
Isn't that what gaming is about?

Draeas
Draeas

Nice arcade-y romp around space. The main characters (Cptn. Bold and the A.I of his ship) are total a-holes, so much so it starts out irritating then becomes hilarious imo.

Get in on your wishlist and wait for it to go cheap like I did, I haven't regretted it.

I really wanted to like this game. When I fire it up, I play for roughly 30 minutes at a time then think to myself that I'd rather be playing SG2 or Rebel Galaxy instead. There just is something in general that isn't all that fun about this game.

1. The whole you have 1 artifact or blueprint that can be collected in this system with no clue how to get it or the ability to even get it at all early on isn't great.

2. The quest system is medicore at best.

3. The faction system is about as transparent as a black t-shirt.

4. We are given a mission to use our AI in the beginning mission. Now these are basically non-existent. It is almost as if they 'wanted' the feature, added it and then decided to make it extremely limited.

5. Shoot a capital ship to death? (Not likely....)

Bavar
Bavar

Little grindy to earn income but relaxing in its own way especially if you have youtube ect going as well. Happy to have a nice upgrade-able ship game with some RPG aspects.

VehemoS
VehemoS

Context: I have finished the main storyline and unlocked all capital ships and fully upgraded one of them.
-Issues-
1. Poorly optimized. On a i9 10980HK + 2080S machine sometimes framerates drop as low as 6FPS. Restarting the game sometimes fixes the problem, sometime it doesn't.
2. Minor bugs and glitches such as teleporting enemies, lag in ship responsiveness, infinite money glitch with bartender missions.

-Personal Taste-
1. The voice acting and characters in general are are super annoying and unrelatable. The plot line is sub par at best.
2. This is more Action Adventure RPG set in space than Space Sim RPG/Action game.
3. The drone levels are the worst game design decision I have seen in any game, I would personally prefer watching a cutscene over that. It's simply not fun.
4. Crafting system seems useless with no real impact.
5. No way to take over stations/liberate them from enemy factions.
6. Combat mechanics and design seem interesting when you're first introduced to them, later on becomes a boring fest of follow the cursor and press the right button. Its good if you want to sit back relax and shoot some spaceships in a braindead way, but rewarding players to think more creatively would've made the game a lot more replayable.
7. Bartender missions start getting boring/repetitive after doing 10-12 of them.

There are some positives as well, but I don't find it worth the price. I recommend buying on heavy discount only if you have to. I personally enjoyed Starpoint Gemini 2 more.

Not entirely what I expected and seems like the game has an identity crisis.
I expected a space battle game, like SPGW but without the faction management. Instead I got a hybrid of a space battle game, a crappy third person shooter, and Assassins Creed. I wish the time and energy spent on the ADAH/Drone sections on longer story, more content, and larger maps. The world feels smaller than SPGW when it should feel at least three time larger. I like the added customization options with the ships, but hate the fact that it is limited to gunships. I have yet to find a place that sells larger ships despite the latest release notes saying that they exist. I am glad I got the game, but it falls so short its as if they took two steps forward then ran one mile back. I cannot give it a good review even though I think there need to be more games like this. The parts that are inline with previous games and the addition of crafting are good. All other "enhancements" are in my eyes "undocumented features" that should be eliminated from SPGW2 or SPG4 if/when one or both of those games get made.

Messages from other galaxies are true. Inconsistent levels of fighting, boring repeated missions, short content and story. Also don't get empty drone wandering in empty boring ships. Nevertheless, there are good sides, i like the music, athmosphere of space even though it is too flashy and crampy. I like general combat style in space. Story is like a real life, you will be getting scraps for working and people will backstab&|use you. So it is a mixed bag.

Wow,
I am nearly speechless. Playing this game has caused me to do two things that I almost never do, and I mean never. Write a review and return a game. The starpoint gemini series till now have been many things but few can honestly say that they aren't good solid space games. Good Story with a rich background and fairly deep lore, solid game play and flight mechanics, the game progression has always been well done with missions and levels that felt as if they were intelligently put together to both create an enjoyable experience and further the story. One thing they were not was silly, slap stick or just plain bad in dialogue, delivery and content, none of the above can be said for this installation of the series to the point that I wonder if it is not actually some other series with the same name. When I said that the games were never slap stick comedy I was trying to come up with an euphemism for dialogue that calls to mind both in writing and acting the old "Married with Children" tv show and other similarly scripted shows of the time, I nearly expected to hear the canned pre-recorded laughter of the "Live Studio Audience" and to top it off the AI ADAH sounds enough like Peggy Bundy I was waiting for her to shout "Brace yourself for sex AL" to the laughter of a dozen people paid to laugh in front of a mic. I cannot describe it in any other way and the level design, lordy don't get me started, it is "open world" if you mean there is alot of space around you that you are able to look at but go too far away from.....somewhere to explore the derelict ship that is highlighted on your HUD and see how "open" it feels. For one thing I explored three wrecked ships on one lever, shot them all to smithereens (to show no visible damage) had a message telling me to scan....something but I was too far away only for that to disappear then as I crossed some arbitrary line a return to mission warning and timer came on so, embracing the "openness" of this world I pointed my ship at the mission objective marker , engaged sub-light (or whatever this iteration calls it) moved slower than with my engines on full, kicked my engines on to max and off of sublight and was well past the point I turned away to explore this "open world" and nearly at the objective marker but I was still panicking because the return to mission timer was nearly at ...... yep boom zero. I was well back on the track and inside any conceivable mission parameters but I jumped the rail and couldn't get back on.....open world on rails??? maybe that is it.
This game is about as bad as it gets and then even worse seeing as it is coming from such a solid series. I cannot understand it. I know space is cold but do I have to feel like I am on ice the entire time> The controls are so sloppy but that hardly mattered because I soon found that angering the "open world on rails" gods was more dangerous than the enemies as byu the time I was about to call it quits I was merely sitting in one place and shooting as they zoomed pass me like they were really brave to pull such a stunt and again, and again andagianandagain...... the same pattern, the same inability to do any appreciable damage to me and yep there goes another one ran right into my mine and I blew him away as he sped right into my blaster fire. I could go on and on about the menus being empty with the basic elements to be called a menu but, well your journal...... is really your ship load out and faction relationship guide, no notes no quest info although quest info isn't really a necessary menu item when it is go from here to there DONT LEAVE THE PATH fight one baddie then two then SURPRISE here are three hahahahahahahahaha boy we got you there (man the scaling difficulty here is a literal scale)
and on about...... you get it, or maybe you don't. Maybe like me you heard someone say how it is utter garbage and just cannot believe it, well I cannot judge because I didn't and maybe when you are done you will be right here like me, confused and in shock that something so good could go so very bad and very far from what it ever was. I know friend, I know. To those that enjoy this game, good for you because someone has to or else there may never be a Starpoint Gemini 4, if I were the devs I've either cashed out on this complete sale on a good name and am now evermore living on a beach to never again make another game or trying to decide if they can overcome the shame and embarrassment, knuckle down and deliver a actually good game that is worthy of the fans that have spent their trust and faith as well as spent their hard earned money, believing that they wouldn't be let down, I would make the best game I could and then pray that there is still some of that faith left for the one time fans to give number four a shot. Then again I've been told that I am horribly old fashioned about things and need to "get with the times" but I do not like the times thank you so please devs, please give us one more good game and not this.... words fail.
Ok in the immortal words of Stan the Man Lee.....
'Nuff Said and Excelsior! (miss you Stan)

This game is honestly just not worth the investment from what I can tell, the storyline is EXTREMELY limited, while one of the features I was looking forward to (Capital Ships) was not even touched on during the course of the story, and i only found it after the actual game was over, thus not getting to experience going into a major battle with a fully functional battleship at all with the exception of the various bosses scattered around. Frankly just truly upset with the fact that the game hyped up both this and the drone portion of the game while them only being allowed in select story relevent portions of the game for the drone part, and not even available during the course of the actual story for the capital ships.

I can see and understand why many core base fans like myself don't like this entry compared with the older ones, especially compared with Warlords (My favorite rn), but there are some good things on this one and a lot of bad ones and I mean a lot... so I hope in the end the Dev's learn something and use it to make something better in the next entry... and.... I did like the shit a$$ humor in the campaign :V

Some Thoughts

- I think the more voice acting than text base for the main campaign its a good thing but still... the lack of conversation skills and talking options, does make it quite meh compared with SPG 1,2 and SPGW, plus the "cutscenes" were poorly made too, sadly
- The drone was a good concept poorly implemented
- The bar talk = if they could implemented better made in a more bigger scale like shipyards, stations, trade market, comms between ships or stations, empire managment, etc... sort of like RGO that would be great

I came to this game with hopes of it being similar to Starpoint Gemini warlords which was a pretty good game itself. However i feel like this one was not that great.
The character you play is is endlessly annoying and the campaign doesnt feel engaging. Keeping missiles restocked is a nightmare. The graphics were not much of step up from the previous game but not bad. But if your looking for a better experience Starpoint Gemini Warlords is the place to go.

It's difficult to recommend Starpoint Gemini 3 (SPG3), but ultimately, I would still recommend it, but not at full price. It's a decent introduction to the series if it's your first time playing a Starpoint Gemini game. But if you have played the others, then you will be disappointed with this entry, which seems to have backtracked on a lot of features from previous games. This is where a majority of the criticism for the game comes from. For one, previous titles had you being able to captain a wide variety of larger starships from the smallest gunships to capital-class carriers, battleships, and dreadnoughts. You could also have wingman and in SPG Warlords you could control an entire faction in a sort of arcade version of the X series. In SPG3 you pilot a single fighter. No wingmen (unless the mission requires it). This single fighter can be pieced together with different parts, but it will never change its class and will always be a fighter. The developers did add capital-class ships to be captained by the player, but they aren't available until the very end of the game and the grind getting to them doesn't really make it worth it since once you get to that point, your fighter is already more than capable of handling most threats. Also, since the game was never really designed for captaining capital class ships, the ships that were added feel "awkward" to use. In other words, it feels more like a gimmick that was added to appease fans. Rather than a feature that planned from the beginning.

Another element that was changed significantly were the factions. Whereas previous games in the SPG series had a TON of factions. Ranging from various corporations, mining guilds, mercenaries the totally not “Galactic Empire”, the Baeldor Republic (a unique space constitutional monarchy). Then there were also a ton of outlaw groups ranging from your standard space pirates to organized criminals and even a group of green anarchists. Granted, none of the factions were really that different, but they all used specific kinds of ships and had unique territories along with associated side quests. Not to mention roleplaying opportunities. But with SPG3 a lot of these factions have suddenly disappeared without reference to them. The only factions that remain are Nexus (a group of secretive researchers) and MultiOps (which is basically space Amazon). A few new factions have appeared including alien races and the mysterious Templars who wish to restore the “totally not Galactic Empire”. The various outlaw factions have also been removed and just collectively referred to as “Outlaws”. Not really differentiating between the various groups. Overall, it makes the SPG3 universe feel smaller, even if it’s toted as being the largest universe in created in SPG thus far.

SPG3 isn’t all bad though. For one, the graphics are decent and much improved from the previous titles. The scale is a lot better too. While previous games let you captain larger starships, they always felt very tiny to me, compared to how much larger they should feel. Everything in SPG3 feels larger. Capital ships feel larger. Space stations feel larger. Planets feel larger. This might have more to do with the fact that you are forced to pilot a fighter though. Sound design feels decent too. Weapons have that “ooph!” sound I’m always looking to hear. Performance is a noteworthy improvement over previous titles as well, with very few bugs that I’ve noted.

Overall, I’d recommend SPG3 if it’s your first dive into the series, but if you’ve already played the previous games, I’m going to have a hard time recommending this one when the previous games have so many more features including trading, dynamic events and scale of SPG2 and the 4x lite mechanics of Warlords.

I would suggest you buy StarPoint Gemini 2 or SPG Warlords instead of this game. If you already own those games, there is no reason to buy this game, since it's an inferior sim in every way, at first login. I've been playing Warlords lately and thought I would check this title out if it was on sale. I only paid $10 for it, but still decided to get a refund after 30 minutes of play because I'll never play it again, when I can play Warlords or even SPG 2 when I have time.

AMAZING!!

I really wish I didn't sleep on this for a year.
This SpG3 is awesome with beautiful graphics,
and a blend of new and old game play.

If you played the others you'll love to add this one to your collection.
Is it the same as SpG2 or SPGW? Its got a newer story with you at the helm of a ship.
Go from third person to first person with the new cockpit view!

Enjoy the beautiful amazingly detailed scenery.

Do you want to do the campaign? Maybe free roam? Or maybe start out as a pirate?
With various start options you choose how you want to play.

Enjoy mining, dog fighting, enhance and upgrade your ship.

All within the Gemini Universe!

This title's game play is a tad different 1, 2 , and warlords but also encompasses the game play of those.
Yet, it adds its own new game play and style.

There's a number of bugs I've had to contend with. One of my favorites is a bugged save where I went to land on Mars. For some reason it decided to kill my ship despite having plenty of distance from the planet the second I pressed the land button, it saved at that moment, and the game crashed soon after. When I tried to load that save it instantly killed my ship. I've also had issues with campaign missions getting stuck and having to restart the game to proceed and redo whatever it was I got stuck on. There's other things like the fast travel buoy I keep forgetting the name of that'll sometimes bug up and not let you travel even if you didn't get into combat. There's numerous other bugs and similar issues as well...

The biggest problem that overshadows almost everything else involves the drone. For instance, there's times where it's very unclear with how you're supposed to proceed. On Easy difficulty it's supposed to help you get through areas like showing you where to go, solve puzzles, and so on, but this bugs up sometimes as well where you're not given any direction. I should not have to look up a YouTube walkthrough to figure out some nonsensical exact precise path through a room to avoid detection or find out how to do some stupid puzzle that literally has no hints that you're supposed to brute force to figure out (oh, and you die if you fail 3 times). The "stealth" sections are horrendous with the ambiguous area of detection, the meter above them that rises when you get close that means nothing (it can be full and you not get spotted, or be empty and be seen), and they can see you through thinner walls. There's a section where you're trying to make your way though an exploding ship with debris coming down from above or slamming in from the side of a hallway, and you're supposed to somehow magically know where they'll strike to avoid instantly dying. Even on Easy difficulty where you're given about 1/2 of a second warning it's pretty stupid. The drone thing is a neat idea, but horribly executed and the game would be much better off without it. Combat is also pretty lackluster. You only have 1 weapon and no changes to things like health/armor, while there are enemies with different kinds of weapons, stats, methods of attacking, etc.
The only thing that makes some of the combat sections bearable is that the AI can be easily exploited as they can't seem to target you if you're near a corner or outside of the room they're in, so you can just sit there and take potshots until they die. Another thing is that there's special things you can pick up ONLY during these stupid missions that allow you to craft certain items, and some of them are pretty badly placed or, if you die or get discovered during a "steath" mission, sometimes they'll just disappear.

Honestly, if it wasn't for how bad the drone sections are, I might actually recommend this. I really like the modular ship options, the crafting (even though it's almost pointless since you can buy almost anything and money is easy to come by), the RPG system, and I actually kinda like the story and characters.

Mediocre. I want to like this game. I really do. But the quality is a significantly worse than former titles. It's hard to really describe it, but it just feels off - as if the center of a target was moved slightly in any direction. No other way I can describe the feeling when playing this. Even with sub 2 hours in the game it just feelz lazy. Not like "there was no effort put into it," but rather everything feels slow and adrift (this can be good if done right, but not here). I understand games with grind, but the grind here is literally 0 fun....And if a vet Warframe player says the grind is boring, then you know shit is bad. I can see what they tried. I can see the effort and attempt to do something different. But the execution is honestly subpar, especially for the price. Sure you will get your 30+ hours of content, but it's akin to eating cold pasta without sauce...for a month.

TLDR: Just poor overall quality. Sitting comfortably at the lower ned of average. If this had come out 10-15 years ago, maybe. But for today's standards this mishappen child of gaming is just an unfortunate tragedy. Save your money. Buy other games. Even with a 66% reduction i regret my purchase.

TL;DR: Anyone who likes Freelancer and prefers combat over trading, SPG3 might be worth looking into.

Compared to Freelancer it lacks a good few management features, the (bar) mission selection is clunky at best (and buggy, too, including a money exploit). Freelancer offers help for actually trading goods, it can do long-distance navigation even through multiple systems etc. On top of that there are 2 things in SPG3 which just don't seem to fit: Drone mode and crafting.

The drone mode is only encountered in some of the story missions and for the alien "stations" as far as I have seen. It is very clunky and in parts really annoying, plus it narrows the game play "options" down massively compared to the normal ship mode.

Crafting has no obvious reason to be there, i.e. it can be counted as an optional / exploration feature. The game doesn't really provide any motivation to have a closer look at this except for potential monetary gains. And that is blocked by forcing the player to find "random" blueprints, which defies the profit purpose again. Maybe someone can enlighten me why this is in the game ...

All in all I had the feeling this game lacks a bit of focus, and instead of adding new "layers" to the game it would have benefited from enhancing the core game play.

With that said, I had fun playing the story and doing the missions in between to power up the ship and also exploring the world a bit. The difficulty progression in the story line has some icky difficulty jumps in some parts, so I ended up trying to get the best gear at some point instead of progressing the story. And rendering everything past that point as "easy mode" in the story line ... except for the very annoying drone mode parts.

So far I am thoroughly enjoying this game. After a year or so on my wishlist Im utterly confused why the steam reviews are so negative. It isnt perfect and yeah some of the writing, especially in the beginning, is a bit unnecessary but not enough to warrant a thumbs down by any means. And so I am greatly bewildered. Nonetheless this game is very much the Starpoint Geminis version on what Freelancer achieved and the developer did a fantastic job in my opinion.

I just wanted to add my experience to the review list bc it was a surprising and enjoyable discovery for me!

I really enjoy this game. If you like this game, check out Everspace 2. Basically you fly around in a sleek gunship upgrading and completing missions. Lot's of space combat, looting, scavenging, mining, crafting. I really like how their are different parts you can purchase to customize the look and the power of your ship. There are lot's of things to do and I am still flying around in sector 1 lol. I have already made it to level 14. I enjoy upgrading my character skills to boost certain attributes of my ship. The story hasn't even started for me yet because I figured I would get my ship as strong as possible before I travel to the next stage in the story mode. There are different modes you can play. Freelancer is one of them and it is an open world kinda thing. If you like space combat and want good visuals I recommend this game. I give it an 8.3 out of 10.

While SG Warlords was unique and very good game, this one is... geez, i dont even know. Main story is cringe, cinematics are pointless, gameplay is OK but game is overall boring.
With Warlords, they created something like Mount and Blades in the space... very unique game, very enjoyable. SG 3 is different and has to compete with games like X-series (mainly X3, X4 etc.), Everspace (1 and 2), Rebel Galaxy or even some older or even free to play games. And because of this, game is not just good compared to others.
Plus, i have a feeling the game is full of bugs (but i cant really say if it is a bug or if i do something wrong which makes sense once you realize, nothing is really explained to you except for basic control and features).
So... yea, for me, worst purchase of 2021. And i did not even buy it for full price.
I would like to get back in the game to do some stuff, get better ships, maybe get the capital ships in the end but... i dont really what to do without feeling bored.

Did you enjoy Freelancer but wished it looked jankier and had terrible writing? Do you enjoy mandatory, instant fail, stealth sections that do not match the rest of the experience at all? Do you enjoy grinding the same 3 missions over and over to upgrade your ship with fascinating upgrades like "+5%" to a thing? Do you hate it when you have an understanding of who is speaking over the comms? Do you hate knowing what is going on around you in space?

If you answered "Yes" to all these questions then Starpoint Gemini 3 is the game for you!

It's just too different compared to Starpoint Gemini 2. Other games do a better job at controlling a single fighter. With that in mind the weapons, mods and ship designs were't very interesting. It was worth a stab at doing something different but falls short what I wanted in the series.

All of the negative reviews appear to be due to the fact that this isn't the same kind of game from 1 & 2. It's a space shooter. Combat is fun. Graphics are a little dated. The acting is kinda terrible, but in a charming sort of way. It's on sale for $9. WELL worth it at that price.

Its a super relaxed arcade version of X4. I mean when you just want to blast something without have to really think too much.
For under $12 it's OK, however I wouldn't recommend it at full price.

I thought it had HOTAS support but it didn't pick up my Warthog device the keyboard/Mouse combo is a bit clunky but I can put up with it.
The one thing I really miss is no Track IR support as head tracking would have made the game so much more fun to play.

Got it at sale for 8 Bucks, it's worth half that
- The cinematics are lame, and offer absolutely no value, why spend time and effort designing such a shit? I'd rather have a text dialogue, I don't need all the stupid voice.
- The fights are also substandard, worse actually than Starpoint Gemini 2.
- The UI is really bad, it's like it was patched up in a couple of hours, no choices
- The journal has nothing to do with a journal, there's no list of quests or anything
- You get jobs from bartenders that don't pay shit, they are all the same
- The content is weak, you may be able to "customize" your ship but it's nothing too advanced
- The crafting lacks value

nah, not worth it, SG2 was much better, it had substance. This one is too shallow

Morfius Drake
Morfius Drake

I played the story, and it can be done in 8 hours duration (easy), shot the game reminds me about freelancer, that's awesome.

Positive first?
- Great game play, it works, and is easy to learn.
- There’s a story line
- The game prices fit

Negative
- game crashes
- sound from stations sometimes hangs so you still have a double sound when you fly around, restarting helps
- Autosave rarely works correctly, so you are ending up replaying a lot of the bartender missions.
- Graphical settings is not present.
- game feels like its not completly finished

Rate - 3 stars out of 5.

Recommendation No and Yes, i would recommend it if the save and there was some side stories you could wander off too.

Its not like the first three games. You fly a starfighter, not a capital ship. Not what I wanted, but okay. I wanted more story in the SG universe, so I played it anyway. I spent most of my 44 hours in the campaign grinding money to upgrade my ship so I could progress. There's even prompts encouraging you to spend time doing this, after some story missions. That was annoying, but tolerable. In all the story I got through, there was only one character from previous games, and not even a likeable one. The huge open map was downgraded to several 4 zones per star system. Enemies barely shoot at you when you're shooting them, and when I noticed enemies clipping through structures in space that I had to fly around, I gave up and uninstalled.

I am very much looking forward to a return to flying really big ships in SG 4 (preferably without the need to command fleets). I loved SG1 and 2, and while Warlords wasnt great, it was still good.

Fenrir Sleipnir
Fenrir Sleipnir

Great game! I can only imagine the bad reviews are because it is more focused on dog-fighting (like Freelancer/Rebel Galaxy Outlaw), rather then the fleet/empire management style of the previous game in the series (Warlords).
Combat is very good. Graphics are maybe a bit dated, but good enough. Story is entertaining, although horrifically cheesy... you get used to it though!
Open world elements are very similar to what you'd get in the previous games in the series.
So all considered everything you'd want from a open world space sim!

So I really liked SPG2, and Warlords. I assumed SPG3 would live up to LGM's standards, but it has not sadly. The game is a bit of a mess, and several promises made by the developer are now no longer being considered. A recent(on Discord instead of Steam oddly) post clarified that they are most likely no longer going to support or keep some of those promises made, and will most likely be moving onto another game. If this ends up happening I will probably skip anything else from this developer since they could not bother to finish SPG3. I get that they had a lot going on with an earthquake where they are located, but that was over a year ago at this point and they have been completely silent until a few weeks ago where they made a random Discord post apparently. No news on Steam still which baffles the mind why they couldn't copy/paste that onto Steam.

Anyways if they do continue support for SPG3 and finish it I will gladly change my review to a positive one, and delete this review. As well as continue to support them. Hopefully that can happen!

This is the worst game I think I have ever played. Basically right after the start of the game you do a couple little things then find out you owe money and they tell you to go to the bar to get a mission. Well the bar only gives one stupid mission which already shows how trash this game is but then it gets worse. I had to fight a couple basic low level pirates....Easy right? Boring as I had to fire my guns at a single ship and rarely missed. But it took me 2 hours of non stop firing on the ship to destroy it. Your bloody guns do 0000000.1 damage to a ship that has 1k hp....I uninstalled this game is just stupid trash. I even used the bloody missles and they did 0 fing damage. Torp did 0 and they all hitting non stop uhg soooo regret getting this.

Buy SPG Warlords instead... Seriously skip this one. It is a complete downgrade. A regression.

The cutscenes are some of the worst ive ever seen, so a game that is supposed to be "story-rich" it really hurts the game. The animations for them are so horrible that it wouldve been better had they simply used simple still images like they do for hentai games.

The visuals dont look like an improvement to warlords. I actually think that warlords probably looked better.

The combat is horrible and repetitive. Go to point and kill waves. hope you like to strafe kill, and that doesnt make you sick.

very uninteresting and uninspired gameplay. I dont know what they were thinking.

This game IS a nice surprise. I purchased this during the current winter sale. I was initially frustrated but; I was playing the game via a "fly aimlessly" tag. i was flying around and around and Zzz ... around. I had an idea to go back to the MAIN screen. I tried the "Campaign" tag. WOW! I really like this game. It has got awesome (easy on the eyes 2) graphics. FUNNY and interesting story. I know it looks like I have not played very long. I know what I like and I recommend you give this game a try.
I have played games very similar to this, (ones worth remembering) like: Freelancer, Wing Commander (franchise), and Privateer. So far it has been awesome. I hope others like it as much as I do.
Thank you - little Green Men Games! Please don't abduct me!

Fun easy space sim game. Quite different from the original 2 SG games, focuses on single ship combat instead of fleet combat. Story/cut scenes will make you cringe, so don't focus on that. Got the game on sale for $9, worth the purchase.

MahouTofu Shiro-chan
MahouTofu Shiro-chan

This feels more like a Starpoint Gemini spin off rather than a mainline game. The title of Starpoint should invoke the memories of a pilot working his way up from a small gunboat to a mighty capital ship. This game is really about dogfighting in a gunboat. Sure, the ability to drive a capital-ship is in the game, but the mechanic feels out of place and mesh poorly because it was done with the dogfighter game mechanics. and once you get it, it invalidates a whole bunch of other features.
It also have segments where you play as the drone, but that feels unfinished.

but the concept in this game, it can be so much more. the crafting system, the ships have sections that upgrade separately, target able enemy ship sections.. so much potential. i have not given up on these guys yet, maybe they will polish this game into something amazing.

This game at first convinced me it was good. I was all prepared to say that the haters were wrong, they were expecting a different game is all. Then I lost the entirety of my playtime because the game decided to randomly blow me up without warning. Yeah, this is a big no.

To make things worse, the main character is probably the single most hate-able main character of any game I've ever played. He's so awful that you are driven to seek out player-made mods to shut him up entirely. He is the poster child for punchable faces and kickable voices.

Unfortunately Steam's crap return policy won't let me refund this game. I spent four hours just fighting with making this awful game work in the first place, then it just deleted all my progress, and I'm stuck with it. I wish I had trusted the reviews here before pulling the trigger. Don't make the same mistake as me, folks! Trust the reviews! Avoid this game unless you hate yourself!

i am dissapointed in spg3 and not by the change of game setup tough i must admit i liked there previous game setups more but that is not the reason that i give a negative recomedation

,its all because of the controlpad mechanics its crap (its controller supported even ) but even after altering the key configuration so that i could try to make an attempt at the game, they feel off the controls are that bad it keeps me from wanting to go back in , and ok you can say play with mouse and keyboard but no , same as spg 1,2, and WL they are meant to me played with mous and key... (in my opnion) feels like to most natrual thing to do.

but with spg3 its meant to be played with an controller (in my opnion ) but the controls are crap even with an good gamepad key config it still feels sluggish and for some reason just not getting used to it

With the reception of this game, I was really skeptical, so when I bought it on sale I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm trying to keep things in the big picture as I am currently at around 10 hours. I first started with a similar experience to others, overly-campy banter on what seems like a strange story. The more I progressed though, the story reasons for why the character is on the run makes sense as he's trying to avoid getting pulled into the politics of the world, and that marriage from literally a baroness makes sense as to why he doesn't want to get involved with someone with both money and power. As strong as they came on at the start, they start cooling off and vibing better as a unit, really starts to grow on you.

On to the next part, graphics. Animations are a little stiff sometimes but functional, still appreciate all the effort it must have taken to even get it this far. It does feel a bit like a 90s game which isn't wholly a bad thing, textures aren't crazy detailed but still gets the point across. The parts with Adah feels a little bare bones sometimes but the rewards are worthwhile.

That brings me to gameplay. I started and still am on Insane because I enjoy a challenge, which did cause my start to be a bit grindy as soon as I reached the open exploring part, but I'm discovering my way which has lead me to a breakthrough and what caused me to write this review and changed my mind. Once you're able to get the hang of shutting off engines (default X key) and dancing around the enemies, it becomes super satisfying to be dodging around 10 drones and then coming out of that mode just long enough to fire a torpedo to destroy all 10 targets with an Eraser. Not only is it satisfying to achieve, but more profitable than other available things such as salvage or mining, even better rewards than some of the missions available. I find it enjoyable and it will help me get prepared to face the rest of the missions on Insane, which is fully what I expected considering I played SPG2 and Warlords being very familiar with the gameplay loop of the harder difficulties.

Lastly I feel I have to speak on the big picture that I first referenced here. I get it, the game feels like a framework of what could have been a better game. There's less info than what you'd expect in a SPG game because they were likely more focused on other parts of gameplay before things started happening for the devs, I understand why people feel disappointed because it doesn't quite hit that bar they were exactly used to due to them trying something new and missing that exact vision. It is still a dive into that world from a different perspective though, and the game still won't get any better nor will they continue on to other projects unless we support them. If you enjoyed SPG2 and Warlords, consider supporting the series still, because we can't get more polished or good games if it all stops, if that makes sense. You don't have to get it at full price, I didn't, it's just a fact that if they don't get support then we don't get more games and that would be bad for all space lovers out there.

Anyways I do hope people can either give this game a better chance to either grow or help the next projects succeed, because I'm honestly having fun with it and haven't even begun modding this game let alone Warlords that I want to revisit at some point. LGM has good stuff, and I'm looking forward to more.

I like this this game. I have always liked space games. This one is right down my alley. I really like the attitude of the main character. Hoo_RunZ

The last update for this game was in 2020, a month after the game released. The game feels unfinished and is missing features previous entries had. In terms of graphics it looks better sort of(?), but this is not an SPG game. It feels like a mobile game. Don't waste your money or time.

Papa Midnite
Papa Midnite

I actually did like the story for a onetime run, too bad it was easy and short. There are some major flaws in this game and the fact that it is no longer being updated makes the $30 dollar price rude. When the wow factor after initial play faded (it is really cool flying around space without a preset destiny), it left me feeling they could have done more.

Freeroam isn't fleshed out enough to be interesting in the long run. The only npcs you can talk to are bartenders with limited lines and all you can do is run missions. Factions are in static locations and never get better or worse (regardless of what the player does). And what it really lacked was any side mission quests/events.

This leads me to my biggest "wth", the Knight Templar start. Its description pretty much says help them re-establish the Earth Empire. Only after reading the manual did I discover that it is just freeroam but pretty much everyone hates you.

I would not recommend unless the prices is cut at least by half. This isn't a terrible game, just lukewarm.

stewartocs

Underrated game in many respects! This is still the same Star Point Gemini we all love but, it is played from the perspective of a single pilot. Just like SPG2 and SPGW both had different "scopes" from which the gameplay is experienced, SPG3 allows you to experience this world from a single individual perspective. As a result the gameplay is fast paced and focused on combat. Many times in previous SPG games, I've wanted to take on a more direct approach to the combat (to get more involved than at a strategic level). This game definitely provides that experience.

Despite the criticism of the campaign, I rather enjoyed it once it got rolling. Yes the graphics in cut scenes looks dated but they work. Keep in mind this is something new for this independent developer and the results point to other possibilities in future SPG releases (we can call this outings cut scenes part of the development "learning curve").

Campaign aside, the space game play is exquisite and feels very tight. Where the game really comes into it's own is in free roam mode. Cruising around space taking on whatever missions you want is a blast. The actual in game graphics are solid and immersive. The gameplay itself is addictive, fast paced and delivers some intense space combat. There are some deep trading, leveling, crafting and upgrading systems. But deep does not equate to overwhelming and I found all of the systems to be straightforward and intuitive.

I get that this might not be what everyone wanted from a new SPG game but, it does bring something different to the LGM universe. Despite the developers recent silence, I would not be surprised to see them spin out a new SPGW soon! In the interim, give this one a try if you are looking for an accessible take on the open world space sim.

One final thought for the developers. It would be awesome if you combined the strategic fleet management of SPGW with the ability to still get into the "fighter" style combat of SPG3 (allow gameplay at both a strategic or direct level). The result would be similar to X3/X4 but much more approachable/accessible to a wider audience. I could see something like that being huge with long time and new fans of the series.

Monadnock
Monadnock

I've played the previous two entries in the Starpoint series, SPG2 and Warlords, and I enjoyed them both.

Honestly, while not as good as Warlords or SPG2, this title isn't a complete failure. Sure, the writing is cringe, the graphics leave something to be desired, and the story is pretty "meh" so far, the gameplay is alright, if a bit redundant. I'm not prepared to completely bag on this game, as I do get some enjoyment out of it, I just wish there were a third option as opposed to just up or down.

SPG3 isn't breaking any barriers in gaming by any metric, but it's sufficient to kill some time. I recommend it, but get it on sale and then temper your expectations and just enjoy it for what it is: Mostly a swing and a miss, but with some enjoyable aspects.

THIS IS A MESSAGE TO FANS OF THE PREVIOUS GAMES: BE WARNED, ITS PROBABLY NOT WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR!

I don't often request refunds on games, let alone this quickly, but damn am I disappointed.

First, the real time strategy element from the previous games has been completely removed. No fleet building, no station management, Instead its just a piloting simulator in space, which can be cool but its not what I came here for. Its a huge let down from the previous games.

Second, the story: I clearly haven't played the full thing given how long it took me to want a refund but its one of the main drivers behind my decision. Where the previous game seemed to have intelligent people with real personalities, this one takes a 180 and goes for the "charming idiot who always has a quip for something and is really more of an a-hole" gimmick. the main character is so annoying its hard enough just to listen to him talk, I can"t stand him. The entire script seems to be more akin to something from Borderlands than anything else and I'm not talking about the good ones. The only character I am fully convinced is an actual human is the computer and that's saying something.

Not gonna trash too much on the animation since they clearly haven't done anything else in that department but...c'mon guys, the characters look like animatronics whose speech isn't synced up to their mouths properly.

Other than that the combat seems at least solid and the controls for piloting craft is actually pretty good all things considered. Im not saying this game is complete garbage, its got some flaws but really its just not what I was hoping it would be.

Slethal Weapon

Really disappointed. I bought the game during early access/development and the developer appears to have abandoned the game. Hasn't been updated in well over a year, as far as I can tell. Wasted money. I loved Starpoint Gemini 2 and was really looking forward to this game getting that kind of attention and polish. I will not buy another game from Little Green Men Games unless it is a finished product. Trust burned.

Starpoint Gemini 3 is a game that:
-looks like Freelancer, but prettier
-play like Freelancer, but smoother
-the thing that killed all desire from finishing the game for me, is a stupid drone mini game, a third person shooter where you control an extremely slow robot and shoot at things with high input latency.

Everyone says the protagonist is awful, yeah he is a real piece of work, but I actually dislike his ship's A.I. called Adah more, that woman is obnoxious. Between the two of them, and the excruciating drone mini game that cannot be skipped, I give up. I don't even want to go watch the youtube video to know the ending of story. Get this on sale if you really must.

if you remember the old game by Microsoft, called Frelancer, then you will like this game. Different story but still good. Also very similar game mechanics and feel. Best game in the Starpoint series.

All things considered, I like it.

It's a good game, frustratingly close to being a great one! Flying around in big sectors with lots always happening is fun. Sometimes I want to enjoy flying rather than sitting in the management simulator that is the 'X' game series: putting pedal to the metal is more gratifying that giving a hundred automation rules to different drones. And Starpoint Gemini 3 does this really well! A lot of the negative reviews seem to be that the game doesn't take itself as hyper-seriously as most of this genre does (e.g., a joke about "spacebook" being a dating app for AI). The underlying mechanics are serious enough, but the game takes itself light heartedly, hardly a fault when roleplaying as a space pirate in my books!

Which makes it all frustrating that the game is missing the last 10% of content and fine tuning to turn it from fine to great! The story campaign is fun in its own cheesy way, but it's short at ~20h; there ought to be one series of mission per faction. There are a bunch of different factions that look unique, but the reputation system does virtually nothing at all. The modular upgrades for ship is fantastic, but there's no way to make genuine trade offs (i.e., you can trade strong shields for fast shields, but not shields for weapons). The dog-fighting mechanics are intuitive to learn and take skill to master, but the different enemies all feel very similar; it's lacking the variety of Everspace 2. The crafting system has a lot of depth, but drowns itself by having too many different resources and no clear aim. Repair, rescue, transform, scan, etc... gives some variety to missions, but the final step is an identical button push in every case; a little more variation would spice it up.

So it's a fun, cheesy, and slightly hectic game about flying a custom ship through space and blowing stuff up.

This game is not what it's predecessors are. The movement is incredibly clunky and very, very hard to get used to. There's a lot of unsolicited 'cutscenes' that came straight out of GTA San Andreas, yet this game is a 2020 release. I've given it a fair shot with 5 hours on record, but it's not worth to buy. The devs have abandoned the game anyway, so no point in even considering to play.

outrageous travel times. To go ANYWHERE u have to travel for 5+ mins. atleast the other ones had t drives. this alone makes me dislike this game. i feel like all i do is fly in a straight line shoot few pll now travel for another 5 mins back to where you picked up the mission. this game poo its a traveling simulator.

boring story, the fighting has no upf and very bad loking characters.

I loved Freelancer, when it came out. I played it again and again, just for the story. This game.... the protagonist ist an idiot and the ai is like the most anoying girlfriend ever.

I am sorry, but if you want more Freelancer... that aint it.
