Daedalic Entertainment working with the devs - The Brotherhood; put out some genuine effort voice acting, moody, spooky ambiance to this sci fi horror.

A Deep, dark intense atmosphere, so thick, even the basic character sprites don't betray the thin vail of immersion. Wandering around trying to find a way off the abandoned spaceship, there is a very real sense of dread - something very bad went down.

- It's as if the ship brought back something with it. 7/10

Neat concept, disappointing execution. The story starts out muddled and does not improve, none of the puzzles are particularly engaging or imaginative, none of the characters really exist as characters, and the story beats are predictable basically from minute one.

Do not recommend.

STASIS is an average-to-good, point-and-click, sci-fi horror game. Interestingly enough, it manages to squeeze in some jump scares. It goes places few (?) games dare to, but I do not wish to go into details because I do not want to spoil the game. The main story is interesting at its core. The objects are generally easy to find. The puzzles are a bit lame but there is rarely moon logic, so things make sense. The developers want the ending to be opened to interpretation, which I am personally not a fan of.

Not my usual type of game but found it fairly gripping even with all the macabre art and story. The story itself was pretty good, I found the main villain to be comic exaggeration and the ending itself didn't really make sense logically & otherwise, which made it kind of feel rushed. But even still I'd say if store page write up and videos interests you then give it a whirl its a pretty good game.

Frustratingly nihilistic with nonsensical puzzles and terrible voice acting. Dark Sci-Fi settings are really cool, and this one does have a lot of beautiful environment design and thought put into the actual aesthetic. The problem is that the story doesn't really live up to the tension that the environment is building.

The story begins onboard a medical ship inside of a lab filled with corpses and clearly falling to pieces. From that summary, you can guess at the villains, the narrative twists, what's happening aboard the ship, and the general trajectory the story will take - and you won't be wrong. If you want this sort of story, play System Shock 2 or Dead Space - games with this kind of grimy used future aesthetic that have a lot more going for them.

I enjoyed Stasis. It felt like a point-click adventures of old. I wasn't able to piece together a couple of the puzzles and used a walk-through for those spots. Once I did, I was kicking myself for not seeing it. Access to PDAs of the crew lets you learn what happened through the eyes of the crew and makes for an interesting story build. I finished the game up in 7 hours. I will definitely play the other titles.

Puzzles are pretty much shuffle random items and hope for the best. Plot is thin and predictable.Should have asked for a refund instead of grudgingly push forward.

That was rough! Perfect! Strong story, perfect sci-fi horror, pure non-actional adventure. I really enjoiyed playing this game.

Though some players report technical difficulties, I haven't experienced any, the game run flawlessly - but in order to be secure, I was saving often.

Gud gam. 8/10.

Very dark and mature story. Plenty o' gore, and some fun gory achievements. Just make sure to leave a lot of saves throughout the game, and don't save over them like I did if you want to get the extra achievements without having to go through the game again.

Mechanics are good but just a tiny bit janky accessing the inventory and the save menu. Nothing major. Just a nitpick. Overall, I definitely recommend it for point n click adventure game fans. Be ready to read a bit, though. The story is scattered throughout the game in diary entries from crew members. It's not a ton of reading, but it's definitely not nothing.

The STASIS sci-fi horror narrative has accreted in clumps of highly detailed 2D isometric, point-and-click scenes throughout the BROTHERHOOD vat, forming gruesome, compelling mysteries that have given birth to a lovingly crafted retro adventure game. I love Jukka Cola.

Not sure why I like this. Probably because of it's great atmosphere and simple game mechanics that remind me of my PC gaming in the 90s. The atmosphere does lose its power a bit in the second half of the game, cause the story is sort of a bit predictable and the conversation between characters draws you out of the immersion, but it's a good game that is obiously made with love and with some old classics in mind. Would recommend, specially if you're tired of the assassins creeds and tomb raiders of the modern gaming and want something different.

It was the shortest credit screen I've ever seen. Good sound design, very good voice overs. I loved to read every PDA I've find. The backgrounds are great, they are both modern and from the late 90s. Puzzles don't require pixel hunting but they are kinda on the hard side. There are some things from Dead Space obviously but it didn't stop the game to form it's own atmosphere. It was wonderful to lose sleep for a couple of nights in this thrilling adventure.

It's a point and click game with good visuals, great sound, bad gameplay that doesn't make sense in a lot of cases, and a poorly presented story that turned me off from delving into it.

Despite my love for good horrors, overall it was boring and i beat it using a walkthrough because the gameplay makes no sense and i wanted to end it asap.

Was really a great game, I got stuck with some puzzles at moments. I loved the atmosphere and how the game projected itself onto me. For a point and click, it made me jump a few times. I enjoyed reading all the PDA's and the ending too. :)

I'm sure anyone who loves a good story, puzzles, and horror will absolutely eat this game up!

Terrible terrible game. I'm sure the story is good, but I didn't even get far enough to experience it. I understand that it's supposed to be a nod to older adventure games but was there really any need to carry over the clunky movement, low resolution and ugly UI from that era as well? It's locked to 720p, the UI is hideous, and your character basically moonwalks everywhere because his movement speed is slower than the speed his legs move at (which looks stupid and also means it takes 30 seconds to move from one side of the screen to the other). Refunded after 30 minutes.

Amazing game. I played CAYNE first and had to check this one out. These devs are great and quite responsive in the community. Don't expect an rpg or whatever those giving bad reviews are expecting. The themes remind me of one of my all time favorites, SOMA. I did notice some spelling errors. Regardless, the writing is superb. If you like sci-fi and old school/point & click adventure games, I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy it. Personally, I think they improved when they made CAYNE. But others disagree with me.

Looked bad on a large monitor and the character moves painfully slow. I got frustrated pretty fast and refunded even though I was really feeling like playing an isometric point and click game but it quickly became apparent I would never feel like playing this so I refunded.

Hell, yes. Shouldn't have taken so long to play this. Isometric adventure game reminiscent of Sanitarium (but more serious). Higher resolution backgrounds would have been appreciated, but sinister beauty nonetheless abounds. This game gets dark.

Takes a little time to get used to how the puzzles fit into the game, but overall not too bad. Some nice gimmicks that I enjoyed a lot more than I would've thought.

Sci-fi horror environment is really great. Story and lore comes together very nicely over time.

Isometric adventure/horror game with a fantastic ambience and a creepy vibe to it.
I didn't expected to be all that good tbh, but enjoyed every aspect of it from the bizarre and grotesque things I found along the way to the unexpected ending. Despite relying on a few clichés, the story quickly gets going on it's own and keeps you engaged as you explore more of the dilapidated world around you.

Definitely worth it, wish I could see more of this in the future.

Excellent atmosphere and tension. I spread the game across several sessions in a week, and it left me feeling genuinely more anxious those days. Maybe some replayability for finding achievements that you missed the first time through, but on the whole, it's a once and done kind of thing. More than worth the price of admission though.

This game didn't just blow my mind, it blowed my soul. With a guide, it takes about four hours to complete. It's dark, gorey horror that is going to stay with you. There are few puzzles and statements that don't really vibe with reality (At one point you need to use a hologram to trigger a motion sensor... not how that works) but that is not what you're here for.

This game isin't scary, but it is in fact HORROR. You will leave this game being a different person. One thing I do need to warn you about is that a lot of the achievements have to do with suicide, roughly half of them are horrible ways to off yourself, or otherwise dying. So if you are sensitive to these themes, this game might be too intense for you.

I loved it, my stream loved it, it was just great.

7.5/10

Pros:
Environments are superb!
Very creepy and also have a scary feel!
Story is a fantastical horror-fest made believable!
It can be fun finding different ways to die
One of the coolest games I've ever play in terms of story and atmosphere

ConS:
Pathing is bad at times, but forgivable because it's indie and also because movement is not critical to success.
Lots of reading. Not a 'real' con but for some it may be.
A couple puzzle solutions felt like pixel hunting or they didn't make sense. I think this is why the game got low scores (73% at the time of playing). Some puzzles you CAN'T solve with logic, instead they're solved with the process of elimination, which is weak. I'm saying that when you complete a puzzle in this game sometimes it's not that rewarding because in the end you had to click every possible combination to solve. Ideally you'd want to solve these kind of puzzles with a modicum of logical deduction, which is more rewarding. Some of the puzzles do NOT allow for this. This is what separates good from...not as good.

Still the game can be fun but frustrating at times. Keep in mind that the story and atmosphere delivered a good game here. And a couple of BS puzzles shouldn't ruin the entire thing.

You can feel the inspiration from Aliens. This game brought me back into the point and click game genre and also got me hooked on all of the other games the Brotherhood has come out with since.

Plenty to bring the world to life. Some items needed to progress are less than obvious, well until you do them.

Check out Cayne and Beautiful Desolation if you like this.

Audio, acting and level design are great. The story was ok, though I couldn't finish the game.

Some of the Achievements involve using some of the tools/environments to kill yourself. Normally not an issue and it shows off some of the animations someone obviously worked hard on. But there is no way to save your game. There is a Save/Load menu in the Options, but no Save button in said menu, and no Autosaves in the Load Menu.

I was about 90% through the game and was going for another Suicide Achievement. I got it but I lost well over an hour of gameplay. May not seem like a lot, but I set aside a free day to play this and getting to the end just to be shoved back tho the halfway point is a complete waste of time (and money). A game that was released in 2015 should have a Save feature. It can't be that hard. I wash I had known about the lazy development before I purchased Beautiful Desolation, and F*@& I hope BD has an option to save.

And the graphics options are launched separately but all the options are grayed out, unable to change. WTF

Stasis is an isometric point and click horror game where you play as John, a man who was just a stasis pod and has woken up aboard a spaceship where something has gone very wrong. I wanted to like this game. It has great atmosphere, a decent plot, and it tried to be engaging, but it was very frustrating.

The visuals are strong, every aspect from the environment to the lighting blends well, and the sounds work with the visuals to give you a very strong sense that you are actually on a spaceship where something has gone very wrong. What really kills this game is the fact that you really just mess around with stuff, rather than knowing what you need to do to. Sometimes you're right, you find the right object or combine the right items and the game moves forward. Sometimes the puzzles work well, and you can think your way through them. Other times I found myself just clicking randomly until I got it, after which I rarely felt like the reason it worked made sense. It is understandable that the character is in an unfamiliar situation, so he would not know everything he needed to do, but some kind of prompt, like causing John to talk out loud to himself saying for example "I need to find a way to stop the oxygen canister from moving" so you might think of ways combining items in your inventory could do just that. Too many times success was not a product of my good thinking and it was more dumb luck, and there were no clues to make the former more common than the latter.

I think this game could have been great, if the lack of information needed for success were fixed. I really wanted to like this game, it was very engaging on every level except the gameplay. I hope Brotherhood learns from the shortcomings of this game and can carry the strong sense of tone and story into their next game.

Really good point and click adventure with a great atmosphere and good character writing with a sad and really disturbing narrative.

Some people say that the puzzles are not intuitive and stuff not highlighted enough. I can't agree with that. For me it was always clear what the next step is, I think I struggled only one time but it was more me being a bit tired. The puzzles are all about combining items to affect the world and all combinations made sense. I played many point and clicks and I know several games where the puzzles make no sense at all and you have to try and error your way through. And STASIS is NOT one of them. I would even say the game is pretty easy if you use some logic and A leads to B thoughts. And yeah sometimes you need to be observant, talking about the small postits sticking to the PDAs which told you how to solve several stuff. But I instantly saw them and when the puzzle came it was just an: AHA! Maybe that's cause I love puzzle games but you have to expect that things might not just be thrown into your face sometimes.

The combination of the great world, atmosphere, sound, story and meaningful puzzles makes it one of my fav p&c games I have ever played and showing that this classic genre isn't dead at all.

FullMetalJackass

An excellent adventure/horror game for fans of Dead Space or Pandorum. Be warned: There are some extremely graphic depictions of suicide in this.

axiomofanarchy
axiomofanarchy

Pros: An entertaining game with an interesting story. There's also a decent amount of world building which is delivered through the reading of PDAs scattered throughout the game, and which provide a lot of depth and context to the rest of the story and the game. There are a few minor jump scares, but mostly the horror is delivered through the story and the atmosphere created by the sounds and visuals. The game is also incredibly stable; not one crash.

Cons: There are a few annoying parts where, due to injury or the environment, movement is incredibly slow, which can be especially bothersome if you have to backtrack, though for most parts of the game you can just double-click to run. The UI can be confusing at times; e.g. I saw another review complaining about the inability to manually save, but you can, you just need to click on a save slot first for the save option to show. The inventory can also be a bit irritating to deal with at times; e.g. at one point I thought I might actually be stuck because I couldn't apply an item to an object in the environment due to the inventory being in the way, but after selecting the item I needed and then moving the mouse cursor far away from the open inventory for several seconds it eventually closed and I was able to progress. The path forward can also sometimes be unclear, and the way the inventory works doesn't help; combining items in the inventory has to be done in the exact right order (i.e. A applied to B, not B applied to A), so it can be unclear what items can be combined or need to be combined to progress.

CrazyPigeonLady
CrazyPigeonLady

Nice adventure game, not too hard, not too easy. If you like scary, or sometimes even morbid, disturbing or shocking, this is an adventure for you.

Story is good, you feel driven to move forward. I advise you to read all of the PDAs, they are crucial for being immersed in the story and contribute to the creep factor. Some of the things in the story can be so disturbing to the point you are actually angry in RL at the bad-person (don't want to spoil anything). This is the only part that I am undecided at do I like it or not. Are the bad-persons punished, how it all ends, is it fair?.. No spoilers but just to say, after everything you go trough seeing, tasting, smelling... to be given such ending...

Replay value? Not really. It is a good adventure but... maybe after a long time has passed and you forget parts of it.

Any triggers? I would say sound. Sound messed me up at times.

Is it worth the purchase - if you want to rock up a few brain cells and be disturbed in the process, like watching a good thriller mixed with horror, then absolutely.

Because I like this game studio that made my favourite game of all time "Sanitarium" I might be a bit bias but I give this game 15/10.

Great atmosphere, 3D environment and sound/voice play, music is restrained but boosts the mood at the key moment.

I'm not considering myself a p&c fan, but I like sci-fi. This game has a good mix of sci-fi and horror. Maybe too much towards the latter and a disturbing ending which is too hard to stomach as the protagonist has gone through all that pains.

Good B movie atmosphere, great graphics, loved the gore to some of the puzzles, but the 'busy environments' and no way to highlight items, which you have no clue what they do, because of SF futuristic 'sh.t'.

Good experience, play with walkthrough to avoid frustration.

With highlight of items and a LOT more of information after clicking on items which are progress mandatory, to explain what they do, maybe a comment of character here and there what should player do, would make this a good puzzle game.
As it is, it's 'use walthrough' game or leave it frustrated, because information is not there.

Lokiharth
Lokiharth

STASIS is your classic isometric adventure horror point & click game (which is basically a copy & paste of it's main tags, but hey honesty is gold overall). It's strongest points are the futuristic ambience and design the game lives in, the mysery and slow unveiling of the plot and it's background, the variety of ways you can have a glorious gory death just out of curiousity and the strong emotions the characters express, it feels genuine. The weakest points are the story and to some degree the puzzles. Sometimes the puzzles are adequate and respect the right measure of intelligence to solve them without trying to sugar coat you, then at other times you're playing Sherlocks Holmes and the Mystery of the Mummy playing Mouse Rambo with your mouse either by the sheer level of ridiculous that one specific puzzle had, or just your classic micro pixel, a bit of added description to items or a very clear change of look to the mouse when you select stuff like ''hey buddy I feel this good ol' jolly no-good piece of machinery here feels suspicious compared to the crowd of junk'', although in all honesty no puzzle game will ever top the ''creativity'' Mystery of the Mummy had. As for the story it's a matter of taste, Stasis has you classic ''a man looking for his missing family'' trope of many movies, games and maybe even books, it adds empathy and connection to the viewer by being relatable, but it can be tiresome after a while, but re-emphasizing one of it's strongest points, the level of energy in the emotions the voice actors give to their characters makes it feel pure and genuine, so although It's not my cup 'o' joe, the characters made it believable to me. The graphics confuse me a little bit, I don't know If I'm experiencing the old or the new, it's that loose realm the 2010's had with their games, the menu, sound, everything carries that unsettling in between hard to pin point style. In short STASIS is a low-key good Point & Click game, close to above average, it's one of those ''when it's on discount and I have the time and gas to play this genre I'll do it'' sort of game.

The game was a fun Isometric DeadSpace with achievements based on how many types of deaths one can find.
Though it sadly has a few flaws with the gameplay and story, such as our protagonist ignoring locations clicked on the map. And the ending really wasn't very good at all. It would have been a great game if there was another ending, sadly that isn't the case here as the writing fell off with a failed attempt to explain it away with a one off line and 0 buildup. I'd say buy it on sale and see if you can finish it in 2 hours, but otherwise I'd skip this one. Hopefully their new game will be better.

A genius game!
One of the best point & click game I ever played, right there together with the classics. Special kudos considering the size of the team -- lot's of talent!
It has a very good balance between "puzzleness", story-telling and action for something in this genre. I'm normally quite bad (or don't have enough patience) with point & click puzzles and, in this case, I didn't had to appeal to walkthroughts almost up towards the end. The soundscape is really the star of this game. The music/SFX keep you on your toes! Voice acting helps a lot to keep the pace of the action while readings with sideline/backstory text is well-distributed. I particularly liked the mechanic of mouse-hovering triggering text statements and some times even voice dialogues.
If I had to say anything bad, it would probably be that some puzzles could have been a bit less "creative" or at least have more clues and less pixel-hunting -- but that can probably be said about most point & click games.

I’m starting to think the world is divided into people who Do and Don’t Like Point and Click Adventure Games. If you Do Like these games, you may like Stasis? If you Don’t Like Point and Click Adventure Games – as I am increasingly believing is an immutable part of my personality – Stasis won’t change your mind. An overwrought sci-fi horror that makes adolescent use of body horror and buckets of gore, Stasis is Alistair Reynolds’ Revelation Space by way of Nine Inch Nails, detailing the journey of an angry man escaping a sinister and abandoned space ship. Along the way our protagonist will need to complete a lot of tasks along the lines of feeding space cucumbers into the blender you (hopefully) picked up in the galley to produce liquid to grease the axel of the space engine three levels back to power the shower to rinse the tentacles of space octopus of the slime you can then combine with the robot surgeon to inject into your spine to allow you to lift out the way the girder in engineering.

Stasis is an unrepentant point and click adventure game, hiding behind a mask of handsome isometric art, with a derivative plot, voice acting dialled to maximum angst, and no gameplay concessions to players on the fence regarding their Do or Don’t Like These Games status. Miss a crucial interactive object or inventory item? Too bad. Go read a walkthrough, and get back to combining everything in your inventory with everything else. If there’s a good jumping-on point for this genre, Stasis isn’t it.

Just the Passenger
Just the Passenger

This is a hard no for me. I played thru the entire game and didn't like it down to the achievements. This is a survival point and click however i'm a little annoyed that the bulk of the achievements are ways to die. The story is typical mad scientist given too much power and authority by a corporation. The character never evolved in a situation where they should have. If i felt this game could be salvaged it needed a item finder badly many times i missed items because they were so small. Some of the puzzles where very hard to solve not because they were challenging but because there was too much dirt and grime over them. The "horror" of this game was more to my stomach and not my brain as in things were more grotesque then horrifying.

If your looking for a chill stream that doesn't stick to one game check me out at https://www.twitch.tv/justthepassenger !

TLDR: Good at the time; frustrating in retrospect.

This game is fun; the story's simple, but mostly good; the atmosphere's great; and even though some of the puzzle solutions don't make an incredible amount of sense to me, I mostly enjoyed my time with Stasis.

Looking back on it after it's finished, though, the game devotes a ton of data-log space to setting up enemies and elements that you simply never encounter. Without going into detail (though reading this may still affect your expectations/experience) They talk about actions taken by the enemy force that never become a factor in the story or gameplay. I don't know what the reason for this is - maybe a limitation of the engine or their budget - but the game devotes a lot of time to giving glimpses of a story that essentially has nothing to do with your situation.

Also, dancing perilously close to spoilers here, be warned; arguably the horror-centerpiece moment of the game - where you must perform a horrifying act to render yourself immune to an obstacle - ends up making zero sense in retrospect, since you end up carrying around the result of your act ANYWAY, technically rendering you still vulnerable to it, and you never encounter that threat again before you use the element for a puzzle much later.

So yeah. It's a fun ride with some gaping holes; and if you don't care about that, you'll probably be fine.

I only recommend it because I know most people are going to like it, but I give it a 6/10. The voice acting, the atmosphere, and the ideas are great, the gameplay not so much, it clearly didn't age well, BUT my biggest complain is the writing, is trying to hard to be this "young teenager edgy" writing, I just can't take anything seriously here, I wont even bother finish the game.

Oh, and yeah, the puzzles makes NO SENSE, I had to constantly watch a gameplay each time I got stuck since I felt this game wont reward me with anything of value for the effort of figure it out by my self.

This game is not just good, it's in the top 10 of point-and-click games. Unusual game, deep story, great soundtrack and athmosphere. This game must be played by horror fans. The story is amazing and holds you until the end. We need more games like this.

i got it on sale for 2.99 and at that price it was a steal!, honestly worth full price, i love isometric style, dark scifi, and point and click games, this was a combo of all 3! i cannot recmmend it highly enough the story had some good twists, many were seen coming, some went to places i didnt expect and while horrific were fantastic in their realism. Personally i loved this game, if you like point and click games, horror, scifi, then there is no reason not to buy this game right now, even if you save it to play for a rainy day or a dry spell its more than worth it!

I love the look of the game and was interested in the larger story but it has way too many flaws. Often when walking into an area you can't tell where you are due to dimness and it's a bit disorienting. Alot of the puzzles are pretty arbitrary and weird. You're better off just clicking on everything. The writing on the small scale is absolutely terrible. These people's journals are written by someone who has absolutely no understanding of adult relationships and it is unbearable. Avoid at all costs.

Going to make this short and sweet since it's a super-delayed review anyway.
My overall thoughts echo what a lot of other people have been saying. It's really atmospheric and reminds me of a point-and-click Dead Space.
I remember thoroughly enjoying it from start to finish. Don't remember having a problem with bugs either.
Recommended for both horror and adventure fans.

Awesome game for those of us that like scary games but find them hard to play because they're scary. The main story plot itself is relatively uninteresting but everything that is going on and happening while you're pursing the main plot is very interesting.

I'd say everything about the game is about average except for the environment and reading which is well above average. There are PDAs throughout the game that you can find and read if you choose, despite there being allot to read it is well written and had me looking forward to each new PDA that I would find to gain another glimpse into the gritty life and death of each crew member.

kind of liked the game until it had shock gore which ruined the whole thing for me! puzzles ranged from okay to mediocre with weird logic jumps, game is very visually dark so often difficult to just navigate or get puzzle parts. skip this!

Best adventure game I've played since Grim Fandango. All puzzles except for one (oxygen tank) make perfect sense, I have no idea what people are bitching about... Yes, some are hard but they ALL have hints if you read the log entries and examine your environment. No need to search for solutions online unless you want to skip reading tons of well-written backstory.

The sound design and graphics are fucking amazing, by the way.

Pretty standard. I can't really hate on it too much, but nothing about it makes me think it's anything anyone needs to play. The puzzles, story, characters, controls, setting, everything, are all pretty slightly less than mediocre. It's clunky and simple at the same time, and when it was all said and done I didn't feel satisfied by the story.

I love Sci Fi Horror, Event Horizon, Alien, etc. This has great atmosphere, you just keeping diving into the layers of horror that left me genuinely disturbed by the end.

I enjoyed the 5 hours I spent playing Stasis. That is mostly due to its atmosphere. If you are a fan of works such as Dead Space, Event Horizon, Pandorum, Alien etc- chances are you will like it.

That said, do not expect anything particularly original or outstanding. It is almost beat-for-beat a copy of the aforementioned Dead Space, but far less thrilling.

The writing is okay, though the text logs start to become repetitive half-way through and some of the characters are just cartoony.

Harmless Old Man

UI is a big issue with the game. The main UI is relegated to the far corners, but still manages to get in the way when you need those areas for scene transitions. There are some non-standard UI displays like some computer monitors or inspecting some objects that don'y have an obvious exit condition. You have to move the mouse to the edge of the screen. It's just a bizarre little exception.

There's a particular puzzle where they fail to give you the necessary information so that you will brute force it and fail. This isn't repeated elsewhere and is a frustrating design choice that wasted a lot of my time.

There are some major story points including the ending that are revealed poorly. It left a lot of people with a lot of questions which is a good indicator that you did something wrong. There are certain things obvious to a developer that wrote the story that are completely invisible the player when just subtly implied.

The biggest gameplay gripe is that certain objects you need blend in too well with the environment. Picking up and using objects is the core mechanic of adventure games. If you don't happen to mouse over that one random metal plate that you need you will waste a lot of time.

My honest assessment is avoid this game.

I gave this game a fair shot once, made it 5 hours in? I don't know how much of the game I actually completed, but I do know where I decided I was done.

The experience of the whole game was underwhelming. I was really expecting a little more suspense.
It just isn't engaging. The gameplay isn't memorable. I can't bring myself to try again.

SUMMARY

Dead Space meets King's Quest...Although not quite.

While this game starts off somewhat generic-feeling in the story and plotting department, it ends up being more of a personal struggle. The plotting is rife with secrecy and betrayal, and the story is a traditional "lost in space" vibe where you come out of stasis not knowing where you are or what's going on, only to find yourself on a medical experimentation vessel dealing with the worst of the worst in terms of ethical crimes and medical malpractice. While the propulsion of the story relies on a fairly cliche gimmick of rescuing your family, the plot twist is actually genuinely shocking. Throughout the game you also get to peer into the lives of the crew and how they are hypocrites, liars, thieves, and generally scum, but there's also a level of black humor involved that you have to appreciate.

The atmosphere is thick with oppressive feelings; loud sounds, sometimes which come off as obnoxiously boisterous, but most of the time is laid on just thick enough to surprise you and deliver the impact of situations and actions. The graphics are well done for an indie team such as this and delivers a high enough quality pre-rendered background to be believable and immersive, with enough small details to make it seem like they had a much higher budget. You can at times feel the cold steel you're constantly surrounded by and enclosed within, as the game portrays a bleak, isolating, and horrifying megaship, surrounded by malfunctioning mechanisms, monstrous hybrid creatures, and decaying corpses. This definitely isn't a game for the weak stomached, as there is plenty of gore, plenty well defined details of waste and fungus, and it combines to make you almost wince.

The part where the game begins to falter is in its puzzle design. At times its puzzles are inventive and quirky, other times being straight forward and rudimentary, but occasionally, they become cryptic and filled with moon logic. For example, there is one puzzle where you have to disable a droid patrolling a pathway...How do you do this? Well, you see that sink you passed by? If you didn't, well there is one, and it barely even looks like a sink, and for some reason it's in the hallway, and you need to use the band aid to tape it over the sink to keep water pouring out so it spills onto the floor, and then you use the defibrillator on the water when the droid is on the water, short circuiting it...How were you supposed to figure this one out? Who knows...But then the game is also filled with more logical puzzles like combining the nylon tape around your crowbar to use as a grappling hook. It's this level of inconsistency with the logic of the puzzles that hampers and slows down gameplay to a halt. In other adventure games, you had descriptions for objects in your inventory that hinted at their use, although that is absent in this game, so you're left guessing most of the time what it might be used for in the future. At its best, this game is a stellar example of why the Adventure Game genre should make a come back, and at its worst, it's an example of why it went away to begin with. The MacGyvering of solutions fills the adventure/puzzle-solving thrill that one looks for in games such as these, but the occasional lapsing into moon logic is just frustrating, although it was never enough to kill my interest, which shows how strong its other assets are. One thing I did like about it was the deaths, which were sometimes fun to witness, especially since lots of adventure games followed the LucasArts approach and take the ability to die completely out of the game, which I think is a missed opportunity. Thankfully the checkpoints for deaths are generous, only seconds, maybe a minute before you died.

Overall a solid adventure game, but has noticeable flaws.

Stasis is a point&click adventure in a sci-fi horror setting. You awaken from cryosleep onboard a halfway destroyed spaceship, with no memory of how you got there or where your wife and daughter are. With the help of a surviving crew member who contacts you through the comm system, you try to locate your family and escape. This involves fixing various ship systems, and in the process you'll learn what has happened on this ship.

The story is very dark - you'll not only read about terrible events (mostly via discarded PDAs with emails that can be found throughout the game) and witness their results, you'll also have terrible things done to you. The game also delivers very intense body horror, which works on a psychological level rather than through gore or jumpscares. While gore is present, the horror that affected me came more from seeing disgusting disfigurements and from understanding the story behind them. While the main character has to suffer through a lot, he keeps pressing on because he knows that no one else can save his family.

I appreciated the handling and delivery of the horror themes in this game, but again, it is very dark and (partly through the visuals, but even more so on a psychological level) quite intense. It is not for the weak of heart. This is not the story of a shining hero, this is the story of a regular man who gets put through the wringer in multiple ways, physically and psychologically, but goes on because there simply is no alternative.

Occasionally you'll have to solve puzzles. These aren't difficult per se, but I found it rather easy to get stuck due to the unclear interface. Important items or exits are sometimes hidden in the dark and only denoted by a change in the mouse cursor (and text flashing up), sometimes I couldn't even see the item when I knew where it was. In several cases I had the correct solution in mind, but had trouble communicating it to the game. In one case I needed to fetch an item that was abundant everywhere, but I could only pick it up in one location where I couldn't even see it. The game's descriptions and interactions don't give many hints either. I generally found the puzzle design considerably weaker than the story, and the pixel hunting had a negative impact on the well-designed atmosphere, but at least the puzzles make sense in the context of the story.

Graphics are of above-average quality for the genre, but very dark even with the gamma slider maxed out. While the fidelity isn't extremely high, the camera usually stays pretty far away from the scene, and the art never looked pixelated on my 28' monitor. The art direction knew exactly what they were going for and did a very good job. The display is locked into an isometric perspective, with no way of moving the camera, rotating the scene, or zooming in, which would often have been useful. Sound effects and music are decent, if a bit subdued. The voice actors did an okay job as well.

Settings can only be changed through an extra utility outside of the game. There are various display and scaling options, but not much else. No graphics options exist except a gamma slider that doesn't go far enough, input is limited to the mouse with no option to use the keyboard, and the fact that the volume slider is only available _outside_ of the game (and only when the game is closed) is very inconvenient. There are no accessibility options at all except a choice of three different text sizes, but even the "extra large" one is rather small. This could have been done _much_ better.

The game provides 26 manual save slots and autosaves on exit. Unfortunately there is no "chapter select" function after completion, so I suggest using some save slots for that purpose, especially if you want to collect all the achievements. Many achievements are missable and can in fact only be obtained if you play badly - 18 of the 27 achievements require you to die in certain ways, so you practically have to keep trying to kill yourself, which contradicts the game's plot and affects immersion negatively.

It's notable that the character moves very slowly at first, but this changes after he received some medical attention. The game follows the movement conventions of other point&click games, including a way to run faster by double-clicking at your destination.

I wouldn't say that I "enjoyed" the game, that just doesn't seem to be the right word for a story that's full of suffering, gore, and atrociousness. But I did like it as an intense experience in psychological body horror, and as such I recommend it to players who find this appealing.

Beautiful and highly atmospheric point and click adventure game of the old school genre (with the small drawback of being somewhat pixel hunty at times), very much inspired by Alien, Event Horizon and to some degree Dead Space.

Voice casting and writing are excellent. The Linux port is functional (though one have to add the beta branch) and unfortunately achievements doesn't work but everthing else worked, performance was good and the game was stable.

I like this game a lot, but I might have a hard time recommending it to anyone born after 1990. A pleasant return to the sort of point and click adventure games Interplay made when I was a kid which in many ways shows flashes of the even earlier Infocom era. The graphics are lo-fi but in 60 frames making it look very much like an 80s anime movie on vhs. The environment is small and a lot of the game involves a good deal of reading, but the atmosphere and visual story telling make up for it.

It's clearly a game designed with love and it has a great atmosphere. I really loved the sounds, a little bit less the overly dramatic voice acting. As a piece of art, however, I think this a good game. Third-person horror games are uncommon and this is a valuable addition to the list.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the gameplay enjoyable. The game has a strong start, but the interface is clunky and it eventually bothered me. I think that having a single command (left click) limited the possible options: it would have been much better to also have an "inspect" command (right click) to collect additional information about items, collect clues and such. This would have granted a little bit more variety.

I think the simplicistic gameplay had a negative impact on the puzzles. I've played plenty of adventure games over the years, but puzzles didn't click for me in this game. The first puzzles were kinda okay, but then a little bit of fatigue from reading PDAs came in - there's a lot of information which is nice to build atmosphere, but hides relevant bits for the puzzles.

Moreover, it seems to me that the designer tried to artificially increase the level of challenge over the game to extend its length. The surgery puzzle was really obscure to me and I may comment more on that specific puzzle, if you are interested, but I had to resort to a walkthrough there. The next area was also a little bit obscure: it was very linear and when I got stuck it got really boring. I dealt with it after tons of trial and error, to eventually be killed in the next area in a place with very poor illumination. I didn't even understand what killed me and this was the last chance I gave to the game.

I really wanted to like this game, but it didn't click.

Bought this game more than 5 years ago and finally got around to playing it. I enjoyed it a lot. There are parts and puzzles that where not intuitive and I had to look up hints for some solutions but for the most part a good game. It´s like a Adventure Game in a "Dead Space universe". The game mechanics/play reminds me at the old Adventure Game "Sanitarium".

Having just come from playing Cayne I pretty much knew what to expect with Stasis. I expected to not be a big fan of it’s puzzles but absolutely love everything else. This was spot on. The atmosphere was a delightful mess although the graphics were showing a bit of age compared to Cayne as they were lacking in colour variety and detail. The voice acting was top notch and everyone involved did a wonderful job. The music was great throughout. As for the puzzles, they were the same as Cayne, which is to say a mixed bag. My issue with many of them were the fact that many were what felt like random mixing of items and others required multiple tries. When I click on a valve and my character can’t turn it my train of thought never gets to “maybe I should try it exactly three more times” and several puzzles have this. Turning valve’s multiple times; hitting glass multiple times, etc. Usually in puzzle games something either works or it doesn’t. There was also a surgery puzzle I thought was terrible. The first part was alright but in part two of it you must hit buttons in a very specific order with little to go on as what that order is and if you die you start it from scratch. Being able to run was great. I do wish there was more of an objective list, it would have been very handy. I also wish that you could pause the game during dialogue but you can’t. You can die in the game but it isn’t really a big deal. A lot of it is common sense stuff of what not to do and if you do you respawn to a point usually shortly before. You never have to worry about enemies which is a bit weird. There are several creatures roaming about the ship; they have killed most of the crew; you can hear them running about; but they never attack you. I know the reason is probably due to combat not working well with a puzzle game but it’s still weird. I guessed the twists in the plot pretty much a mile away but the journey there was enjoyable enough I didn’t mind. The ending could have used a bit more of Epilogue but I guess in a way Cayne helps with that.

I played Stasis on Linux using the Linux beta. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any bugs aside from Steam achievements not working. You can save whenever you want or there are auto save points as well. One thing I didn’t like was sometimes if I died the game would load an auto save point instead of my last manual save which was further along. It wasn’t a big deal as I just manually loaded the save file I wanted. There are no graphics options at all. Alt-Tab worked. I couldn’t monitor frame rate but I didn’t notice any lag. A couple times there were loading screens that lasted 3-5 seconds, which felt long for being on an NVME, but most loading screens were near instantaneous.

Despite the puzzles I really think Stasis is a solid game. Everything else is of such high quality I have to recommend it. Fans of the genre probably won’t mind the puzzles anyway. It’s worth it for the story; characters; voice acting; music and visual style. I finished the game in six hours and six minutes. I paid $5.74 CAD for it and felt that was fair value. Even $10 would have been alright.

So this game is awesome. It's the perfect length, the voice acting is top notch and the story is engaging. I was in hell with John - and I cared about him and was rooting for him. The art design was just right and the atmosphere kept a pit in my stomach the entire play through. Truly, one of my new favourite games. Well done to the developers! Good aesthetics , cool sound design ,nice gameplay . When it comes to the Puzzles mostly meh. Some are practical which that is good and understandable but others more like trial and error than logical but its a design choice which You can see that the achievements are that also mostly points it out. At the end we can appreciated the we can still play this retro style(isometric,pre-rendered backgrounds etc.) puzzle games thanks to this developers so it was nice experience .

Nice atmosphere piece, particularly if you're into the horror sci-fi aesthetic. Impressive graphics for an indie of the time too, if a little dark and muddy at times. Voice acting is...well let's just say it sounds like they grabbed their receptionist to voice Te'ah.

Worth the money for sure, but be aware that some of the puzzles have outrageous levels of moon logic. Such as; why would you use a dirty towel and plastic toe tag to activate a locked furnace? I don't know, and it's never explained. If you're a more casual point and click fan you might struggle with this one.

Disturbed, hopeless and sombre. This is how you should feel after playing a horror game. STASIS casts a twisted and suffocating shadow, it possesses one of the most abhorrent worlds I've seen, punctuated by moments of haunting beauty. Its dark and squalid presentation heightens every aspect of the experience, as does the exceptional soundtrack. The gameplay is ordinary yet serviceable, and thankfully not a hindrance to the outstanding story.

Not a terrible game, the story is ok. That said it is forgettable as I had forgot I previously played it when I played it again.

However the puzzles are obtuse and trial and error, I enjoyed the game more just following a walkthrough, after remembering what difficulty I had with some of the more obtuse puzzles the first time years (and I mean many years) ago.

Maybe I am just not a point-and-click kinda guy.
I couldn't get it working in windowless fullscreen. Even with messing around with settings for more than 20 minutes. Finally settled on windowed mode.
No skippable dialogue, which sucked when autosaves happen immediatly BEFORE a long dialogue (several times) and you manage to kill your guy afterwards (also happened more than once).
As far as the game itself: The story was intriguing, at least it was when I stopped. The character was believable in his fish-out-of-water kinda way. Some of the dialogue was... well fine mostly. Atmosphere and looks were very cool and dark. Sound-design was kinda meh occasionally, but mostly fine.
It has the classic point-and-click issue with a lot of items not having intuitive uses. Not all the time, some items were fairly intuitive to use. But most of them were not.
There were some puzzles there. Not worth talking about. Bland, unintersting. Use a walkthrough if it takes more than 3 min, is my advice.

Right off the bat, it's worth noting that this "game" includes graphic child death -- something I wish I'd been warned about. And be aware, though it borrows heavily from "Aliens" and "Dead Space," it's not so much a "game" as it is a visual novel with occasional light puzzle elements. Yes, those puzzles and the death scenes often employ the once-patented "Sierra Moon-logic" we all loved back in the day, but they don't make up for the fact that the experience is really just walking from dialogue cut-scene to dialogue cut-scene. And the story? Well, it's just a long, miserable tale a man being broken and ground down to nothing. There's not even any catharsis, much less a happy ending. I'll admit, it's beautifully animated and the score is haunting, but a lot of the background noises really don't make sense once you realize what's going on. And I cannot emphasize this enough: Nothing you do matters. Nothing. In the end it really is just one long, miserable, relentlessly-grim, nauseating, nihilistic visual novel. In a very real sense, this is torture porn. Not what I was expecting, not what I was looking for, and certainly not something I enjoyed.

I'll give "Cayne" a try since it's free, and maybe they learned something in the intervening years, but I'm not holding out much hope for it. Pass on "Stasis" if you can.

STASIS

First things first. I almost feel a little bad giving the game a thumbs down. I think a neutral option would be just about right. As I started playing I realized that I had played the game on GOG a few years ago and was having some of the issues I am having now. Overall it was ok, but Stasis just hasn't aged well at all. It was a bit clunky then and it is even more so now.

Positive:

+ The atmosphere is fantastic. That claustrophopic feeling in that "dead" spaceship, the feeling of being hunted and watched at every turn, slowly realizing where and who you are. It's not a new concept, but they managed to deliver on that part.
+ Same goes for the story. They haven't reinvented the wheel, but it's an above average story with some minor plot twists, a nice moral dilemma and a bit more than meets the eye. But at the end there are a few plotholes and questions that remain unanswered.
+ Audio effects and soundtrack are great. And so is the voice acting most of the time.

Neutral:

+- The controls and UI have not aged well. Everything feels clunky and a bit dated. Gamers are used to better standards these days.
+- The same applies to the graphics. It might have been ok then, but with today's graphic cards and resolutions, I couldn't make out a lot of detail from the background. Or actually anywhere on the screen. The lack of widescreen support and the general darkness of the environment didn't help much either.

Cons:

- "Challenging and realistic puzzles," says the store page. Sry, but that's just a slap in the face. There are some of the most basic puzzles I've ever seen in a point and click adventure. 90% of that is picking things up and using them with your environment. In a more or less logical way. It doesn't bother me that much, but if you can't even find the hotspots on the screen where you can use an item, then that's just laziness and no fun at all. And some conclusions are just stupid in the first place. The other 10% are just some very basic wannabe puzzles.
- "Multiple characters to engage and work with". Also on the store page. One wonders if the writer of these lines actually played the game. Because it's a plain lie. There are some NPCs on the ship, but you only deal with one, or shall we say 2. It's a dead spaceship, after all. There are many journals of the dead to get some lore and an idea of what is going on. But most of them are boring, not connected at all, or don't make any sense.

Conclusion:

It's not a bad game per se, but when it comes to point and click adventures there are tons of better options out there and at least 10 with a similar theme that spring to mind without even looking . If you really want to try it, get the game on sale. Or rather play something completely different. Like System Shock 2, or Deadspace.
