One of the best Zombie survival games out there. Enough going on to keep interested but at the same time not to overwhelming. Nice mix of resources management and exploration, not just mindless fighting. Well recommended!

Excellent Sequel the Original State of Decay... arguably some people might consider the first better then the second. They definitely both are great regardless

Killing, blood spilling, wheeling, and a dealing. You gots crafting, community managing, and blood plague smashing. You can customize you toons, make friends, or act like a goon. What I'm saying is that it's pretty fun.

State of Decay 2 is a really fun game and the first couple play through's of the game can really start to feel repetitive but if you just play the way you want to and don't worry about the other communities besides the ones you like, it makes the game feel a little fresh each time you start a new.

Not really a review more of an opinion,
I really enjoy this game but I have way more hours on Xbox so I can't really back it up on Steam...
It really is a fun game one of my absolute favorites in the genre.
You can make it as hard or as easy as you want because there is a customizable difficulty option.
Also the game has gotten so many updates for free and they have no MTX whatsoever which is pretty damn nice these days.

I can't wait for State of Decay 3 :D

It's always giving me a good vibe especially when the perfect soundtrack kick's in. This game can REALLY be horror sometimes(I'm talking about higher difficulties during the night), another HORROR aspect is the moment when you get attacked by a huge wave of zombies and you are constantly stressed because you don't want to lose your progress made in time while stronger zombies are coming.

Even after the hours that I've put into this game, it's still enjoyable. Well made, fun and interesting stories. With that being said now comes the negatives. I feel that being the second game in the series, the creators could have improved in areas such as the types of monsters to encounter as there wasn't really anything new in that department.

I think that story could have been developed more and leaves much room for improvement, i.e. at the end of the first game the creators made it out like once you broke out of town that had been cut off from the rest of the world that we were going to possibly see how the rest of the world had fallen.

Weapons could have vastly improved upon especially with the military, throw super advance weapons in there somewhere even a laser gun or two. Multiplayer aspect could/should have been where players could enter other players world and towns. With updates it would have been nice if the developers added new missions to progress the story further.

Overall I give this game a 7.5 out 10. Hopefully the developers work on a better story should there be a third instalment.

First play-through on normal, or Normal Zone, was a very balanced and fun experience while I knew nothing about how to play well. Once I learned, it was too easy. Next difficulty up, Dread Zone, I see blatant unbalance with human enemies having godly endurance with one having no head protection outlasting over 20 12 gauge shots to the head point-blank. This was incredibly unsettling to me and broke the atmosphere of the game for me as I watch the before-mentioned subject get back up, shoot me once in the head with a .22 ca handgun, and witness the first death of the Dread Zone before me. Sure, this makes the game harder, but what the actual f. With harder difficulties, it is well advised to out-cheese the game and proudly milk every exploit. Here, reason and out the window, leaving only creative planning and tactful decisions that limit leaving things to the game's tiny amount of mercy and floods of bug-like features. It is reasonable to rage quit and go through the seven stages of grief until you accept the unacceptable.

ParanoidAndroid

This is a great game, and really, it's the same game it's been since the release of the first game. Similar to Valve's approach to Counter-Strike, the devs of SoD have recognized that they have something special in the core mechanics of this game and have left them alone and focused on content and QoL improvements. The devs are continually improving the game experience and, this is rare, listening to player feedback when deciding which areas of the game to improve. AND THEY DON'T CHARGE FOR IT! I paid $30 for this game on sale, and while the devs could monetize the new content they release whether through DLCs or the hated gamble-boxes, they have not so far.

If you like zombie games, if you like builder games, if you like open world RPGs, this is one worth checking out.

Wow this game is *Sooo* much fun that i can't even login, yes you have to have an Xbox account to even play a game that's on steam. but hey it was made by UL and MS so we should expect the 50 layers of paperwork before playing a game that's from Microsoft.

right so enough with the jokes, i can't login - they've broken the Xbox login somehow and haven't fixed it yet, so i have to post this till i can actually play.

Ugly

Cons: Always on DRM requires that the Xbox live service is not currently down when you want to log in to the game for the first time, or after logging out

Pros: Xbox live is not currently down anymore (09/09/22), so vague internet problems half a world away on a totally unrelated microsoft web-service are no longer preventing me from playing the single player game I paid for, because it broke the DRM service

If you like a game that has a DRM service that relies on Xbox Live, in order to progress passed the title screen - this game was made for you

10/10 digital rights management service, i look forward to the inevitable day you arbitrarily decide that I can just no longer play this single player game that i paid for, forever

Generally, this game pretty suck.

Jokes apart, the story is difficult to follow, or there's no history at all after the second mission and all the following mission are basically the same:
-Move to a point
-Loot something and the gasoline (the fuel tank is always low)
-Return to the base

Also, in co-op the system of loot to each player is confusing, the items are store for the individual player, so it's not "collaborative loot".

I really don't understand the meaning of this game, maybe it's not my genre, or maybe is really boring to someone who cannot play all day long to this type of game, I cannot recommend it.

This has got to be my favorite zombie survival game. It's relatively open world and gives you the freedom to really do whatever you want. Choices (are you a Rick type leader? or a Negan?), cars (with upgrades), home base (upgrades), lots of guns, melee, zombies...so many zombies. Turn your group into a military unit or a bunch of gen Z babies. If you enjoyed State of Decay 1, you'll LOVE this one.
Best part is... the devs actually care about the game as well as the community; and work hard to make everything happen :)

As close to playing the world of The Walking Dead as you will get. Ranks right up there with Dying Light as one of the best zombie games of all time.

If you've spent anytime in SoD1, you'll feel right at home in its sequel as much has been carried over from the original.

Lots of hours of playtime and replayability to be had.

Fun game. Worth the price. I really enjoyed the first few playthrus and learning the various maps.

Unfortunately, the bugs eventually outrule the fun. Infestations that instantly reappear, zombies stuck in walls, invisible zombies. You can’t make a game with permanent death, and then not have ways to resolve broken game issues.

Since they are still actively updating and adding new features, here are some suggestion for Devs on simple new features to add to future updates to give players more incentive to play:

1) Show us how many kills each different survivor in our community is accruing. Make those kill stats permanently attached to each char.
2) Allow those survivors to perpetually rank up and gain bonus stats as they achieve certain kill count milestones (or let us choose the stat bonus each time they rank up)
3) Don't limit the amount of times each character can rank up from kill counts. You can make it increasingly difficult for a char to rank up, but make it an ongoing goal to keep us playing with our survivors in the hopes of making them super awesome.

Are you deaf and want to play coop? Good luck, because you can't chat in the game.
Even after the 30 major updates they released to the game, they didn't add this feature.
Otherwise, clearing one map was solid fun, but clearing the others?
Why, for the sake of the story? It's not interesting enough.
I drive an armored car, but when I hit a smaller car, it doesn't move at all.
Unnecessary unfinished stuff that sucks.
Game is missing DLSS and FSR 2.0 support, not a issue if you got half decent graphic card, but why not use it if it looks better than native resolution (1440p and higher) and eats 30% Watts less.

While the singleplayer experience is pretty fun in my opinion, due to the exploration and looting system as well as the combat being decent, if you are looking for a multiplayer zombie game do not buy this for just that.

The multiplayer is utterly disappointing, it just makes the game easier with no balancing in mind, my friend and I looted tons of good stuff so quickly because no zombies were an issue, and by we looted stuff I mean I looted stuff and he stood nearby because the non-host player exists solely to be another gun or baseball bat to hit things with, other players get MAYBE 1 or 2 boxes to loot per house while the host gets 4-10. So if you're looking for a fun singleplayer game, this is it, do not buy this for multiplayer, its a waste of time.

Minecraft is a better Multiplayer Open-World Survival Zombie game than this.

My buddy joins me for what is essentially a coop campaign.

About 5 hours in I meet a man named Brayden and have him join my settlement.

Brayden is a mexican who I made in charge of my garden. He really seemed to know what he was doing.

Maxed his stuff out and took him on a plague heart destruction mission.

It's Almost dead

A juggernaut comes into the house.

I hear him from the side of the house sounding a soul-siphoning scream.

Juggernaut throws his lifeless torso at my feet.

In my opinion one the underrated games for a zombie survival game, there's building, crafting, and just surviving in general. what i like about the game is the freedom on when you can complete the game as well on how hard the game is. you can get connected with survivors you try to keep alive as you try and defeat all the plague hearts. BUT, i wish they had added more customization to the characters you add into your community, like hair, beard, colors, names and mite as well add faces to just to make it sadder when you lose your character, but with the updates that they still do to the game hopefully one of those are added in it. love the undead labs team and hopefully state of decay 3 will surpass this game.

Fun and definitely an improvement over the first game. If there's one thing I miss from the first game though, it would definitely be the inclusion of all the other special combat moves for this game like the Double Kill powerhouse move and all the heavy weapons special moves.

If you're familiar with the first game, game mechanics will seem definitely refreshing for a first playthrough in standard difficulty. However, I am confident you will find that the game is extremely easy in any difficulty lower than Nightmare. I would recommend trying Nightmare if you want to match the same kind of challenge that was offered in the first game. State of Decay 2's highest difficulty, Lethal, is honestly way too much for a new or unfamiliar returning player.

The game also still gets substantial updates every now and then, and will seem to continue getting them as the devs work on State of Decay 3. Get the game on sale or after you're done playing State of Decay 1 and you're gonna see your hours stack up on this game in no time.

This game delivers on the entire post-apocalyptic survival genre with small aspects of base-building and creating your own community.
The fact that they keep updating this with some nice extra's and quality of life stuff, even 2 years after release, makes me really appreciate the developers and go back to this game every now and then for full immersion.

Not a good game at all, if you want a zombie survival game, then look somewhere else.
This game was fun for like the first 10-20 hours, then it started to dwindle down, cause you do the same thing over and over:
Bring this here, clear infestation there, escort this survivor.. it gets boring fast.

Even the new mode: Daybreak, gets boring after 2-3 playtroughs, cause it's again.. same thing over and over, just defend one person with the arsenal you have. After you get the strategy down, it's also very easy. That wouldn't be a problem, if the devs didn't make Daybreak SO GRINDY. There is around 50-60+ things you need to "farm", but each playtrough unlocks only 3 items, if you manage to finish the waves. It takes around 40 minutes to finish one whole playtrough, so you're stuck for hours doing same thing, just to unlock things you might want. Note: Most of the cool stuff you can unlock is unlocked near the end, the unlocks are not random, you have a defined rewards as you go. Most of the stuff is useless in Daybreak/SoD2 anyway.

The game is very unpolished, some obstacles look jumpable/climbable, but the character just jumps in air.
By default the key E is bound to a lot of actions, so often times you do something you didn't want to.
You have a zombie laying down you can finish with a finisher, but the "autolock" makes you grab a different zombie which bites you.
You can't climb tiny obstacles or rocks, so you often get stuck on them.
The inventory system leaves much to desire, when one sheet of paper takes as much space as a whole portable generator.
It all adds up eventually, making the game more and more frustrating as you find these issues.

Game could use a LOT of polishing to be considered good, but for now, it's kinda meh. Find a different zombie survival game.

Hex: Maidenless

I definitely think that gameplay wise this game works somewhat fine despite the combat to be hell a lot of the time to say the least. This game has a huge issue with crashing though, and unfortunately it makes me believe this game is not worth it for everyone or that they should at least know that before buying so they don't spend 50+ hours on a community like I did only for me to lose everything to a gamebreaking crash that happened when I blew up a plague heart with the classic two bloater cloud grenade flare combo, I guess I did it too fast or something and I was playing for several hours before it happened but this kind of thing doesn't happen to me on most games, I have a epic gamer laptop with a geforce rtx 2060, I7 processer with 15. something ram and I can run most my games on stable 60-120 fps with relatively few issues on most games, so it really is out of nowhere for this to happen and I can tell its a problem with the game anyway because I can load into other communities just fine just not my main one lul. anyways after an hour plus of trouble shooting I've found no solutions and from reading similar storys from other people who also found no issue, so until this gets fixed you pretty much have to play the game safe and not blow up too many things at once I guess otherwise you can lose all your progress.
I don't have many problems with this game in fact I want to love it but until this gets fixed I really don't feel like spending time playing it and I hope more people dont have to suffer the same fate I did lmao

I was skeptical when I first bought it, but moving through the annoying parts of the tutorial and sticking with it was the key. State of Decay (SoD) is a zombie base builder SIM game with survival aspect and some story elements.

SoD 2 has the same SoD 1 goodness with a fair bit more challenge with the blood plaque mechanic.
Zombie behavior is also more aggressive and less cheese worthy vs their SoD 1 counter part.
The base game use to not have a, opting for an infinite survival mode (SoD1 break down) as its based game but in 2022 a full fledge story mode is included both decently compelling and challenging.
Devs are still supporting the game 4 years after its initial release

That said... idk if this is a massive bug or not but gun aim mode is jank that constantly de-aim when I don't want it to causing frustrating combat encounters especially in CQB with guns. Fix that and I'll only see net win from here.

Undead Labs is among the S+ tier list of developers, SOD1 was an amazing game and lost my mind at SOD2 announcement. I didn't get very into it when it released but came back some years later and seen the effort they put into the game. If you want a relaxing experience just killing zombies or improving characters you can do that. OR if you want to suffer you can play on lethal and handicap yourself. They are still updating the game and have great communication with the players about whats coming and gameplay changes. The only things i say that could be improved in SOD3 is zombie density, graphics (should come with newest gen anyway), and possibly a storyline. Storyline wise, SOD1 had a good story, but a little cliche and used breakdown to make the open world grind without a story and then reversed it for SOD2 by releasing the Heartlands DLC. All in all it's a great game with a solid dev team behind it.

Pretty good game imo

I've played SOD2 since early 2019, started on Xbox and I've never been bored.
The game lasts long, definitely best in coop doing the highest level of difficulty and try to survive

Downside, trying to play coop was a struggle but now I understand. You need to have an xbox account, not with gold live or anything, just an xbox account that you have your email and password so you can link it and play coop

REMINDER : When you do this, you will lose your communities

So it's definitely a good game. But as a coop game it's not suit for me because the progress is not shared between the host and my friends. And also it's a classical survival game with AC exploring and progression system.

Got it on steam summer sale and for 15$ it is worth it!!! This franchise has potential but it has many flaws right now. The zombie spawn system is terrible and the graphics are not up to AA standards. If they developers can actually put some good AI system into this franchise and better production value it has alot of potential.

I'm recommending this game with a lot of hesitation. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous game and this one isn't too bad. They managed to add coop (which I did enjoy), but did lack in a lot of parts. Co-op is really only beneficial to the game leader as anyone who joins the leader, are basically just there to help out; donating to the game leader simulator basically. I feel like in this game (unlike the first game) there isn't much of a story when you choose to play campaign. Campaign is easier, and flows more compared to other modes, but is really held back by the lack of a story line.

Things I would like to see to come out of State of Decay 3:
- A better coop system (where the objective is to WORK TOGETHER, instead of donating all resources to who ever owns the server)
- Remove tethering; I would like to be doing my own thing on the other-side of the map, without risking my friends getting pulled back over to me due to tether.
- STORY!!! Main thing this game lacked was story. I managed to play the first game and continue to replay it for the story. The game just feels too bland and gets too boring too quickly.
- More congestion of zombies in cities than rural areas.
- Add more types of zombies (not zombie animals, already seen that in Dead Rising).
- More hostile survivors (would absolutely LOVE to see not only zombies raiding the base, but humans too.. definitely make the world feel more alive)
- A large city map (Tom Clancy: The Division but WITH zombies)
- Weather changes (lightning strikes hit the map at random places and attracts hordes of zombies into that one area, rain muffles survivors footsteps making it easier to stealth everywhere, etc)
- Relationships between survivors (could be just to add a whole new element but is still unnecessary, but can include friends/lovers, etc.)
- Start the game off with being able to customise our survivors looks, etc (i'd like to have my own unique survivor. changing hairstyles, eye colour, ethnicity, tattoos, scars, etc). This only applies to a new game though, any new found survivors are premade BUT we should be given the option to customise them TO A MINIMUM. This can be if we select a survivor and make them interact with a mirror (for example), this should give us the option to change hairstyles, etc.
- Child/Teen Survivors. Give them negative effects (such as, using more resources and or generating more noise), but giving them positive effects too (such as, being able to "raise" the survivor giving them specific skills depending who taught them what)
- Customisation for bases. What I mean by this is being able to: Add banners (for example) and give us the option to write (or draw) whatever we would like on it, colour different parts of the house, decorate different parts of the house, etc. Housing decorations could be taken from places you scavenge from OR crafted.
- Effigies. This kind of correlates to having hostile survivor raids but being able to craft these off of limbs of zombies (or if your nuts; survivors), and place them around your base as an intimidation to potentially scare off enemy survivors.
- Better vehicles. Love to see motorcycles or bicycles around the map for survivors who want to be fast and to get out of areas more efficiently (perfect scouting vehicles). Also allow us to (I know, again? but hear me out), customise our cars B).
- Multiplayer Invasions. Basically like what Sniper Elite 5 has done where you invade another players game and the goal is to try and ruin other players games. I feel like this feature should be asked at the very start of creating a game, and is only available if you selected the option for it (as like an added difficulty). For the invaders, they could either be zombies, or hostile survivors. The owner should get a notification when a player has invaded the game, and the objective is, to kill the invader (or vice versa) for a reward. Bit much and not as important but a random element that could improve player interaction.

Please fix coop, all I ask for. Other than that, I enjoy the game :-)

The story is short, if i can so call it a story. The end was so short and easy, there was no endboss or something like that but at least there are many weapons which you can use.
There aren't that many events for the game which is sad for a zombie game..
I guess if you would play it with a friend, then it could be fun.

Well I hated this game when it came out. It was a stinker.

Now it's actually fun, and players can drop in and earn drops and resources for their own colonies. That's neat. It's still a buggy mess but it's a fun co-op buggy mess.

This is a solid 3/5 - which is the 'get it on sale' kind of thing. A good game to keep in reserve for when you feel like doing something with friends.

State of Decay 2 is a 3rd person PvE zombie apocalypse, community building game, highly addictive when you know its ins and outs
Can be played multiplayer too, though it's bare bones imo

I love this game even with some of its bugs hindering its quality, I have high tolerance with buggy games so it doesn't phase me.

There are 3 modes of play
Story, Sandbox (OG mode), Daybreak (Horde defense)
-Story is decent not much I can say. Still how the zombie apocalypse came to be in this game is interesting, also set in easy mode (can't be changed, bummer)
-Sandbox, 4 maps to choose to play in, this is where you build a community of random survivors and try to survive the day to day zombie apocalypse struggle, until you finish the legacy "story" missions and restart again, that is until you get bored or wanna try something else.
-Daybreak you try to survive for 8 waves, pretty challenging mode can either be soloed or on a team (hopefully they're decent or pros) when juggernauts start to spawn that's where things can get hairy, this mode makes use of the combat system to its maximum potential which is really fun, gunning down/cracking zombie skulls will never get old.
This game replayability is great.

Apparently this game is wholly different from its first release so I can't understand all the frustrations people had at first with this game. Researching it, the game at first looked flat, ugly even, then visual updates came out and now it's one of those screenshot worthy games. The game changed so much from its first release no difficulty select, no customizing of your survivors look, vehicles launching itself to space, just flat out buggy and bland as the earlier purchaser says, and now update 30 will come out, another game changing system will enter the fray and may add another myriad of bugs (hopefully not) lastly AI is brain dead outside of base especially when your are playing on Lethal (maybe even on Nightmare), so I don't recommend bringing one out and about in that difficulty. Base building is pretty basic, could've expanded more, still it works.

Previously mentioned difficulty, the game has 5 difficulties Green-Normal-Dread-Nightmare-Lethal, and Custom if you count that.
This one takes the cake for me, because you can tailor to what experience you want to have in this game and that changes everything, you want a chill game? Then play at lower difficulties, you want to master its melee system (one of the best melee system in an OW game imo) use all the tools that you can get like guns, xbows, explosives, noise makers, cars, stealth, etc. go play Lethal. The game in Lethal will change how you'll play this game, you'll be maximizing everything you got at your disposal, and stealth is key to survive out of your base, just one successful tackle of a Blood/Plague Feral can be a death sentence, even the Plague zombies/walker/zeds/brainless should you get too cocky. And Custom, to find that right balance you want.

And lastly one of the best OST I've listened to, it fits perfectly in this game, you can feel the desperation/tension/relief as the music plays and whatever you do especially in Lethal.

A solid 8/10

State of Decay 2 hits the sweet spot for a PvE + Multiplayer Cooperative zombie apocalypse survival game. The game play loop is relatively simple but manages to stay entertaining. There are several different maps to play on, each with their own variety of bases your community can occupy. These bases have a multitude of different building options based on slots available, and most bases have some kind of built-in slots. Each community you play will be different, although you can bring back a few of your favorite past survivors to start a new game if you like. Four different leader archetypes provide options for specific community directions as well. Traders and Sheriffs focus on the broader community of survivors outside your own base, trying to help everybody. Builders and Warlords focus on your own community and being independent.

The campaign is where I have spent over 40 hours now, which does have a narrative tutorial but after that it's up to you how to proceed with your community. The game generates missions for some of your community survivors which do have a coherent narrative, and the various other groups all have some story behind them. It's enough to make it feel not completely random and pointless without dragging you along in a pre-defined narrative. That said, there is a story-based mode I haven't played yet but it's there if that's your thing.

There have been a few bugs but they have been very few and far between for me. The only game breaking bug was getting stuck in an open container I couldn't close, had to alt+f4 out. No other incident has forced me to close the game in 40+ hours.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, it's a lot of fun!

Venomega

So far, it's an amazing game. You would think that it is just another regular "eat & drink and build a base" type of game. But it is so much more than that. You're basically maintaining an entire community, so you'll have to go around, collect materials, meds, food, etc.. while also establishing a few outposts outside your main base. SO you can have a main "base" but then have a "food outpost" which gives you daily food passively, etc..
And all of this while it's an "open-world" zombie apocalypse game.

You do not only just play as 1 character, you can play as anyone you recruit for your community.

Since i only have 5 hours of playtime, i'm still a noobie. But so far, i'm having a fucking blast!!

State of Decay 2’s open-world battle for survival against a zombie menace is the right kind of post-apocalyptic fun. It creates plenty of high-stakes moments, punctuated by the relative calm of foraging for supplies while always looking over your shoulder. It’s a potent mixture for a while, until the combination of repetitive missions and annoying bugs eventually dulls the joy of squashing heads, even when your co-op entourage rolls deep.

Just like in 2013’s original State of Decay, in State of Decay 2 you can freely switch between randomly generated survivors in your post-apocalyptic community – and you’ll regularly have to, because they can only be pushed so far before their stamina starts to give out. Or worse, you did something stupid and got someone permanently killed, taking their unique traits and whatever leveled-up skills they’ve acquired with them. You’re not able to customize their names or looks at all, which is a shame, because if XCOM has taught us anything it’s that it’s fun to tell your friends and co-workers how you got them killed. But that fear of loss (you can’t reload from an earlier save!) adds some significant weight to the struggle that plays out on one of three open-world rural maps, as you scavenge the region to build a shelter and work to cleanse the land of a disease known as the Blood Plague.

Unlike the original, though, State of Decay 2 can be played in its entirety (after the tutorial) in four-player co-op, which even works cross-platform between PC and Xbox One. The joining parties enter the host’s game and get to bring back all their looted spoils (aside from resources) plus bonus rewards to their own game. It’s a near-universal truth that games like this become more fun when played with friends, and that holds very true in State of Decay 2. There’s not much more to the generic post-zombie-apocalypse story than the quest to wipe out the Blood Plague – at least not that I’ve encountered in a single playthrough on one of the three maps, the Plateau – but there’s some background radio chatter that suggests a bigger world of survivors and organizations out there that could someday make an appearance. Everything else is told on a smaller, more personal scale: individual characters will have their own quest lines assigned to them, such as one woman who wanted to track down what happened to a police officer friend of hers in a series of missions, and when you eventually appoint a leader to your group, their randomly determined class appears to influence how your story ends. (Mine was a Warlord, as opposed to Sheriff, Trader, and Builder, which as you can imagine ended with lots of shooting.) But generally it’s a sandbox-style RPG where you’re tackling dynamically appearing quests as people call for help, and you make your own story in the way you deal with them.
While zombies are so omnipresent in the open world that you can hardly swing a dead cat without hitting one, they’re spread thin: next to something like Dead Rising 4 or what we’ve seen in those Days Gone trailers, the number of “zeds” you encounter in the open world at any one time is positively quaint. It’s rare to see more than a dozen at once, and the so-called “hordes” that appear on the map are limited to five or six. It’s enough to keep you on your toes, but individual zombies are more a nuisance than a threat. Fortunately, the moment-to-moment combat against the rank-and-file undead is simple but satisfying. Melee never really evolves beyond button-mashing while keeping an eye on your stamina meter, but you can unlock some specializations that allow you to quickly throw an enemy to the ground and leave it vulnerable to a delightfully gruesome head-popping execution move. And, when you score a critical hit and knock its block off with a single swing of a bat or swipe of a machete (instead of bludgeoning them four or five times first) it’s a tiny moment of power. Guns, which include all the expected pistols, shotguns, rifles, SMGs, and grenade launchers, feel good to fire thanks to nice loud sound effects and recoil that make them seem powerful. Ammo is scarce enough that shooting feels like a last resort, but when you skillfully execute headshots (the zombies’ spongy bodies soak up precious bullets) you’re rewarded with a chunky effect and a one-hit kill on anything shy of a hulking Juggernaut. They’re not quite as fragile as something out of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but weapons do break after use, first turning yellow as a warning and then red for unusable (requiring repair in a workshop), which occasionally left me desperately improvising my way out of bad situations. You’re never entirely defenseless, thanks to an invincible backup knife, but it’s obviously less than ideal for taking on multiple enemies. That unpredictability adds some flavor to the repetitious business of clearing out zombie infestation after zombie infestation. Driving around is a lot of fun, too, but not because cars handle well. To put it mildly, they do not – but to be fair they’re mostly beat-up vans, trucks, and sedans, with only a few muscle cars and armored vehicles mixed in. But thanks to arcadey physics they’ll always right themselves if you flip them, so you’re free to try some stupid stuff as you’re plowing through zombies and opening your door to whack them as you pass by without damaging the car’s body. It’s unfortunate that your co-op partners can’t lean out the windows and shoot at zombies while you’re at the wheel – their participation is limited to opening their own doors, if they have them. At the same time, you have to be careful: a limited gas supply (and absolutely terrible gas mileage) adds some tension to every excursion – you don’t want to have the tank run dry just as you spot a horde hanging around with a Juggernaut, for instance. Having to keep your cars in good repair adds another layer of tension, and it’s a challenge to have to work your way out of a predicament by scrounging around for a gas can or repair kit. Also, trying to hoof it home when you’re injured and low on stamina is a big pain, especially at night. As you use your characters, they’ll develop their skills: running a lot will build up their endurance, fighting will unlock stat boosts and upgrades to melee and shooting, and a variety of other skills like gardening, chemistry, and computers will give you access to an upgrade tree of mutually exclusive character development choices that can lead to new crafting or support ability options. These can really add up to make a character into a killing machine when they’re maxed out, so it’s worth making sure you play as a variety of characters to level them all up. Of course, this also raises the stakes of holding onto characters, as all their stats go down with them if they die.

Definitely one of my favorite games. It really feels like I am building a community during a zombie apocalypse. You find new survivors and can recruit them and give them specific skills, and that makes everyone in the community have their own roles. Since there is perma-death, it really hurt when I lost some of my survivors, because I lost a piece of my group.

I feel this is a great game with many ways to play. Being able to choose you're own difficulty is very helpful when starting out. Very addictive game.
Start with 3 survivors and loot places that will not respawn. It forces you to explore further on the map.
Help other communities, make them allies and earn their perks. Increase your own community by recruiting more people, improve your base or move to another spot with its own perks, claim outposts to receive resource or perks so that you can go and clean all those pesky plague hearts that contaminate their surroundings until the map is cleared and that you achieved all the goals/missions of your own community.
Up to 3 friends can come and support but it also plays very well solo with an AI tagging along with you.
Things can go South pretty quickly between the hordes, the special creeps (tank, fast, exploding and noisy ones) and the plague that may contaminate then turn your characters into Z too.
It's rather casual usually but don't make too many mistakes either.
The game ramps up quite a bit in terms of difficulty and you can also choose many different overall difficulty to suit your gameplay

Always something to do with a well thought resource system, cars to drive far, events.

There are quite a few bugs but not really killing the game: Sometimes NPC will pop / teleport. Visual glitches on cars but nothing critical.

Not entirely sure about the multiplayer though as you bring your own characters to the game from existing communities and they will likely be hurt or contaminated and you cannot swap indefinitely without playing your own game too.
Well thought separate loot between players but you can recombine it afterwards anyway or bring it back to your own game.

All in all an excellent game and very replayable as your previous communities give you 4 different starting perks that are quite noticeable.

TLDR: I suppose what I really want in this game is some depth. Every part of this game is surface level. It is fun, dont get me wrong but it coulda been a lot more than a resource management game

-I have been playing this game since 3 days before launch (Preordered ultimate edition) and Its a good game. Its a lot of fun, but it does have a few issues that kinda make me worried for SOD3. First on the list is Im at the point where Dread zone is too easy but Nightmare mode is too hard. When I play nightmare mode is always goes the same way: I get jumped by a pack of ferals or juggs, my gunshots bring a thousand zombies and I either die or get trapped on something tall and reset the map on dread instead I wish i could have the special zombie density of nightmare but not have the noise levels or instant headshots from enemy enclaves.
-Second is that the special infected just arnt that scary anymore it feels like. In SOD1 I remember being scared shitless of juggernauts. In sod2 i tease juggs by honking my horn and driving slowly away I havnt lost a character to a jugg or feral in like a year, the only times where it wasnt me executing them myself was because I got caught by surprise by an enemy enclave when i happened to be low on ammo and meds.
-and third the way you fight enemy humans is really stupid and limiting. I have to threaten an enclave in order to be able to damage them? I should be allowed to ambush them. Whats the point in being a warlord if you cant commit random murder of your neighbors to the horror of the people under you? Red talon and the networks drama is pretty neat, why cant i pick a side and go to war with either of them? when the game was released, part of the sales pitch was youre gonna have to make hard decisions. I havnt made a hard decision since i bought the game. Anyone i didnt want i either let get sick and executed or exiled them. I always had the option to cure them of blood plague cus of how easy it is to stockpile on the supplies needed. Why cant I play as a crazy warlord to the point it starts a mutiny or civil war in my massive group? Why cant i play as a push over that gets taken advantage of by other enclaves until i finally get the strength to fight them? Why arnt there any real consequences to my actions? Ive murdered 12 people on my latest playthrough (not counting self defense against hostiles this was murder) and all i got was some whining from the radio. Morale wasnt penalized, noone came foreward to express how im a poor leader for murdering neighbors.

Dream Anoxia
Dream Anoxia

So I told myself I would wait till I had 100 hours of game play before i wrote a review... Well here we are at 100 hours played and....
Well there's really no other way to put it other than I love this game. Before I get into all the details that I like about this game, there are a few things about this game that I wish could have been different. By any means it is still a good game, and if you are someone who has never played this, then don't let this few "bad" things turn you away from it.
So just to clarify, the only real problems i have with this game are in multiplayer.
These problems being:
1: Playing in a multiplayer game, as someone who joins a friend or other. Your total number of things to loot drops. The game mostly favors the host. So when you play with up to 4 people, some locations will have absolutely nothing for you to loot.
2. This one kind of goes along with the first one. When playing in a game that's not yours, its heavy stated that you are only there to help those people out. So any rucksacks you find have to be donated to that community you are playing in even though it's actually your community.
3. Well this ones simple, there's a limit as to how to you come travel away from the host. So being the extra player with not as much to loot, makes it to were you end up waiting around a bit on the host for them to loot. the radius that you are able to travel in, in multiplayer is decent in size and is clearly shown on map.

And yeah, those are the only 3 problems i have with game. Other than that this really is one of my favorite games. It has three different modes you can choose. Campaign (which is pretty straight forward), is really fun. It has insane replay value. Given the fact that the game gives you 4 different types of leaders to play as, and once you beat the game with that leader you unlock a "boon" which is just a card that unlocks a special bonus on your next play through. Depending on the some of the characters in your community, they have special quests with give a bit of a deeper feel to the game and the people within your group.
Heartland is the story dlc that takes place in time between the events of state of decay one and state of decay two. Just to put this out there, in the menu for heartland it says that it is recommended for people who are more familiar with the game, and that is not a lie. Heartland is more on the intense side. A few things to know about Heartland is that, unlike the campaign, there's only one base you can choose from. But it is a pretty nice sized based, and again unlike the campaign, in heartland there's a preset list of people that you can only recruit from. Heartland also introduces plague walls, which are just a whole nother nightmare in itself. Heartland also plays out differently than the campaign. In Heartland plague hearts dont just automatically spawn everywhere, they actually just pop up over time. Also plague zombies consume the majority in heartland, so you'll be facing a lot of plague zombies and freaks.
Last but not least Day Break. which is a wave based survival were you play as a Red Talon member. Your job in Day Break is to well stay alive and protect the mechanic. Within Day Break you earn prestige points. Which allows you call in and build Red Talon stuff in the campaign.
But over all the story and just all around depth of this game is amazing. Perma death is a thing in this game, which i actually enjoy. I think it adds a more seriousness to the game, on top just making sure that the over all health of your community is good. They even go as far as to make were certain survivors with certain traits don't get along well with others or just reduce the over morale. With the survivors everything is down to the T. If a survivor has traits of chronic pain or anything like that, it actaully affects their stats for the good or worse. mostly worse if its health issues.
But all of these things put together an amazing game that i strongly recommend for anyone.

Generally to say, the game is fun to play, it consumed almost 40 hours of my game time. If it wasn't those bugs, it would be even more.

If anyone have patient to overcome those bugs or think the funniness could suppress the frustrations, is worth to buy on discount. But for me, there still another games around, no thank you.

The Ultimate and Best Zeds Survival Game, where you gotta loot and watch for freaks, plague, and Survivors(the bad ones).

1 Zed is easy
2 of them is basic,
3 of them is somewhat easy,
4 of them somewhat easily basic,
5 of them mediocre at best
A Horde of em is somewhat mediocre
A Horde of em with armored dudes is somewhat mediocre difficult,
A Horde of em with blood plague and armored dudes is somewhat difficult
A Horde of em with Blood Plague and Freaks are somewhat difficult.
A Horde of em with Blood Plague, Freaks, Juggernaut, is Difficult!
A Horde of em with Blood Plague, Plague Bloater is Superbly DIFFICULT!

A Tip for newbies: never underestimate the bloaters especially the glowing red thingy one!

A must've for all zed and survival Fan!

Good Things: the game manages to keep you busy in some way shape or form and if you notice yourself start to get bored you should try putting the difficulty higher it makes it more interesting.

Bad Things: The infections that pop up throughout the map are ridiculously annoying. Like early game yes it helps a bit but later down the road you find yourslef more occupied with those than the actual hearts or looting.
Your companions deciding to melee combat a juggernaut or something when they have guns drives me nuts sometimes so your better off getting good gear and soloing.

Overall: Very good zombie game. One of the best in my opinion and will definitely have you occupied for over ATLEAST 40 hours. The 3rd game is coming out soon and i definitely think itll be a better version of this game so i would recommend it to anyone interested.

I suffered owning a game on Windows Store to play this when it came out and have played it hundreds more hours than what shows here.

Excellent game. Amazing developer. Tons of replay. Some of the most satisfying combat in these types of games. Interesting blend of survival/build/craft/management/rpg/more with a whole lot of zombie slaying brutality. AAA quality at half the price (has been since release) AND with all kinds of extra features and content (paid DLC rolled in on steam) thrown in over years for free and still going.

It's up there for bang for buck is what I'm saying.

This game is in my permanent rotation (until a sequel replaces it, with SOD:Breakdown being the predecessor) same as something like Civ - I may not play it every month but I take it for a run regularly and always will.

I bought the game again on Steam to both show the dev more love and because Windows Store is trash and Xbox app is only a thin layer of toilet paper better.

This game creates a sense of fear if some one is new to Zombie type games.
Its not as disgustingly fearful as many of its counterparts

Storyline:
- there are 3 modes and one with a story mode
- once all the P{lague hearts are destroyed - a final mission comes up - once you complete it - you can restart the same map or a new map with everything once again - fresh

PROS:
- the Gun effects and the impact of bullets on a Zombies Head feels great
- a buit extensive game to find all the raw materials
- good concept of a seller who pops up multiple times - to buy stuff
- MODDING is possible and is much more fund that way
- Single player is fun with different mods
- NEVER tried multiplayer

CONS:
- Campaign story could have been better
- MISSIONS could have been better - too repetitive for each new people found on map
- NO Character customisation
- No proper base building - but pre-built bases - where we can just move bases

Single player Only:
Overall a fun game - normally
but with modding - its much more fun

SOD2 is on my map for games that should be considered classics. I like a game that can vary the pace a bit and this one delivers. At points you get to breath a little easy, even relax a bit... but soon enough you'll be fighting off Zeds while white-knuckling the wheel of your modded-out hatchback (like a boss)!

very fun core gameplay loop, nicely addictive, and lots of ways to increase challenge / progression to avoid it getting stale. roguelike elements in your survivors being different each game allowing lots of different replayability

highest difficulties (lethal) are unfair at times but they're supposed to be, but just one to be mindful of that there's an expectation you've mastered some of the meta and so in some ways gives you less freedom? (e.g. using guns becomes counterproductive because they spawn more zombies than you kill) i find dread to be the best balance of challenge vs. 'playing perfectly'.

developers are active and keep the game fresh - there's not much here not to like!

I already have lost 3 people from my community. They were good, decent, hardworking people. I feel the sadness of their loss both in my community and in my heart...
I should`t have taken a newbie with me for a fight against juggernaut. She was smashed to death by him, I am the one who is to blame...
The leader was so courageous he undertook the hardest mission by himself only to end up eaten by ferals..
this game is real fun. It offers more than just being a zombie game. I don`t like the small map though also the graphics could have been much better...

Probably my all-time favorite zombie game and a lot better than the first series, smoother animaton, many new features, difficulty settings, multiplayer support, etc.

The new "Blood Plague" mechanism is annoying since your character can instant die without warning (unlike the first when you can get downed few times before you can actually die), and since when a character die, it's permanent dead, It's quite challenging to fight against normal "Blood Plague" zombies. Well it's annoying but still acceptable I guess.

If you looking for zombie open world survival game I highly recommend this one. Finisher animation is very cool and satisfying to watch.

"1.8 hours". Was afk for half of that. The other half was mostly logging into Microsoft and downloading garbage to try and play with a friend. Let it be known that you need to jump through some hoops to play with someone in a non-public game. Complete tutorial, download Xbox app (not the one that Microsoft puts into Windows by default), add person to Xbox friends, connect Xbox account to Steam. This involves an obnoxious amount of log ins.

But the game itself:
This is a classic "It's not necessarily a bad game" review. But I couldn't point you to one unique, impressive, or original thing it does. Every system or mechanic of the game feels pasted into the game in the most safe and uninspired way. Each thing it does well becomes muddled by one aspect or another. The characters try to be quirky, but they're mostly just cringey.

I won't bother bullet pointing each nitpicky complaint I have. Instead, I'll say this:
If I hadn't wasted a shameful amount of time playing video games in my life- this might be a cool introduction to a multiplayer zombie experience. But because I know that whichever aspect of this game I might enjoy, that there are a dozen other games that do it better- I won't be wasting any more time on this one.

Such a good zombie game if you like imagine it as a TV series where you have fun imagine yourself being one of the characters and care for the well being of the characters and your base. Then being mad when you did something dumb and kill a character you like. One time, I accidentally pressed the exit button while driving through a horde of plague swarm, and my headcanon tries to justify that accident as my character is tired of living and wants to do something reckless in his life so he can experience that final adrenaline while fighting zombies for the last time and then later dies. Beautiful way to end his story after witnessing his girlfriend got ripped to shread by 3 shotgun wielding scavengers during a trade gone wrong.

The story campaign was just mediocre at best and at worst, exhaustingly repetitive but I don't come here for the story and just want to kill some zombies while trying to avoid dying.

This game is actually quite a bit of fun. It's a little bit GTA mixed with a little bit of Resident Evil with some base building thrown in the mix for a pretty decent offering. I picked it up on sale, so what very few issues I have had just don't seem big enough to complain about.

aloneinfavela

The first game was good, the second one is better and keeps getting better, the constant updates have been really good for the game. High replay value if you like the core game play.

Slowly taking control of the map by ridding it of infestations or plague hearts while collecting loot is the main game play loop, it's quite fun. Killing the freaks or hordes using the various explosives and sound devices the game has can be quite different. Playing for the first time is interesting but where the game shines is in the multiple maps, varied (random) character selections, different bases, and different difficulties that allow you to replay the game many times.

There are many things to enjoy about this game. Popping screamer heads or using stealth to slice zeds up from behind feels and looks great. Building up a base with various facilities like sniper tower or garden, finding characters with the best unique skills like hygiene or powerhouse, upgrading the ambulance car with armor to make it the Vandito, I was really impressed with the possibilities. One of the things I love doing is to drink an energy drink on a character with swordplay and then go on to slice a whole horde of 15 zombies with the Echo Mamba sword.

To go into some details, the blood effects feel pretty good and zombie killing animations are quite varied. Long range shooting can feel a bit lackluster but in general shooting zombies in the head mid range is really rewarding, specially the freaks. I love unloading a clip on a horde and trying to hit all headshots before they reach me. The character skills are quite varied and allows for interesting character combinations that you can devise strategies with.

The game isn't perfect, I was disappointed with State of Decay 2 when it first came out, felt they could have done a better job of improving on the first game. The game still receives constant updates since it's on Gamepass which is good, I have high hopes that they will continue to improve it. The AI, it's not very good, mostly the human AI but the Zombie AI is also not the best. Zombie spawning is a bit weird, zombies just randomly show up in the middle of the road or roof of a house sometimes, often appearing out of thin air during missions.

I am a sucker for 'collect stuff and bring it all back to base' kinds of survival games. It gets old for a lot of people, and that's fine. Not for me though. You get alarmingly attached to your people since permadeath is a major part of this game. The main part, in my opinion. It sort of shapes your every decision as you go along. I began thinking of them as real people. There aren't many games that I can say this about except maybe XCOM or Wasteland. I say this in a good way of course. Its not particularly easy to die unless you do something exceptionally reckless or take unnecessary risks. That is why prepwork and recon is so important. You'll feel like a post-apoc Geralt of Rivia with the amount of preparation you put into taking down a nest. Just... don't rely on AI to help in any meaningful way. That is a roll of the dice that can more often than not get a beloved survivor munched on in grotesque fashion. A juggernaut ate one of my long time survivors right in the street in front of my house and I had to go past their mutilated corpse as a reminder every day after they perished. Sad.

Holy moly this game is bad. Between the assortment of bugs that rival Bethesda games and the incredibly dumb decisions made intentionally by the developer (such as the game not pausing when you look at your map) this game is practically unplayable. I used to play State of Decay 1 a lot back in the days of the Xbox 360 so I had high hopes for this game, so far all of them have been met or even exceeded! State of Decay 2 is a fantastic zombie game through and through, Undead Labs has taken their original formula and improved upon it in nearly every way while adding numerous quality of life features to streamline the gameplay. This game continues the general loop of the Breakdown DLC from the first game, putting you in a sandbox environment with randomised survivors and loot on an expansive map filled with hordes of the undead; they've more or less removed the campaign and now focus almost entirely on expanding the sandbox experience, some people dislike this but personally I think it's a great decision as the vast majority of my time in the first game was spent in Breakdown.

The gameplay consists of scavenging, fighting and building with missions mixed in that offer variations on those activities, usually with other survivor groups or members of your own community. You start with three survivors with random traits and stats, which you level up by performing the related task or using base facilities, there are a lot of new specialisations that allow you to customise your character's strengths much more freely once you max out their base skill. Unfortunately there still isn't a custom character option, but the save editor is very easy to use so you can create your own pretty easily if you're willing to put in a bit of time. The map is filled with buildings and other landmarks that have searchable containers filled with randomised (at the start of each playthrough) loot that can vary from basic foods and materials to military hardware and distraction tools like fireworks. You always have the choice of using stealth or going loud for any scavenging run and have numerous options available for both playstyles. The combat feels fluid and the animations all look great, the addition of close combat weapons and better dodging mechanics really make this game's combat far better than the first game's, the experience isn't even comparable. Stealth and looting is mostly the same as the first game with some minor improvements, both playstyles are equally viable even on Lethal if you're skilled at the game. Shooting has been improved and is now very viable, especially with the new buildings that allow you to craft ammunition and the new shooting specialisations. Freak Zombies are generally better than in the first game, with behaviour tweaks and new options to manage them while still retaining that "oh shit" factor when they appear; Ferals will STILL be the bane of your existence! Base management is essentially the same in that you have limited slots (large and small) to build on based on your choice of location but there are many more options than there were before and the majority of bases are viable now. They've also made the wonderful addition of difficulty sliders so you can now tailor your experience to whatever you prefer, something that I absolutely love and wanted for the first game; you can control the number of infected and the danger that they pose, how difficult it is to manage your community, and the availability of resources on the map. These difficulty sliders allow you to have a casual survival experience with easy to deal with zombies and plentiful loot, have a very challenging experience with deadly massive hordes and nearly nothing to scavenge, or anything in-between. I think the game would benefit from having a few more of these sliders as the jump in difficulty can be a bit large for inexperienced players (Lethal is harder than max level Breakdown) but they provide many options to alter the difficulty so I'm very glad that they were included.

Instead of a single map there are now five, each of them are fun to play on and distinct from the others. They even included the map from the first game for that nostalgic experience and added a storyline to it to give more of a campaign feel on it! The map design is great and all of them offer a mixture of wide fields and small towns, my only complaint about them is that there isn't really a truly urban map like they had in the Lifeline DLC which means you'll be doing a lot of driving through fields or on highways if you're doing every survivor mission that pops up. Overall I'm still quite content with the maps that we've got, especially since you can change the map at any time by going to the edge of your current one and moving your base to the new one.

The only serious issue I have with the game is the lack of interaction between your community members and other survivors. Even more so than the first game you don't really have much going on back at base and kind of have to make up your own stories for them through the gameplay, while survivor enclaves are primarily just quest givers that require you to bail them out all the time. They have been improved quite a bit by having specialities and questlines for some of them, but the number of unique enclaves is fairly small and their questlines are pretty short so they still aren't much more than a nuisance for your community unless you want to recruit them or get the bonus from finishing all their missions. The addition of hostile enclaves is very welcome (I always wanted to kill the soldiers in the first game) but they don't really do anything besides sit in their base and killing them on higher difficulties is very odd, it really shouldn't take a total mag dump of 7.62 or a .50 Cal headshot to take out unarmoured civilians. This aspect of the game is lacking just like the first, although the efforts to improve upon it are duly noted and appreciated!

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and would gladly pay for more DLC maps or new mechanics, I'm really hoping that there will be a State of Decay 3 as they've clearly learned from their time spent developing and they really put a lot of love into this sequel. I think that this is a fantastic upgrade to the first game in every way and arguably the best zombie game currently on the market, if you're a fan of their first title or zombie games in general I would highly recommend this game!

I can't speak too much for the quality of this game yet, due to only having 5 hours in. I love the gameplay mechanics, in that you swap to different characters when they become fatigued or in the early stages of blood plague.
I did struggle a little bit at first due to foolishly spending 400 influence on the car first, which meant I didn't have enough influence to complete the first mission properly which definitely knocked me for six. I did however manage to start playing in my friends game which was really good fun, allowing me to help him out whilst gaining a significant amount of influence.
For the price of this game, it's a brilliant experience both single player and multiplayer. I feel as though there are a range of perks that come from this being a multiplayer game too.

This game is kind of like The Division meets Fallout. A really fun game to get lost in especially if you have OCD and love to scavenge EVERYTHING on the map even though you really don't need to. Gameplay is pretty typical for an FPS survival game, however I will say that there are a lot of things the game doesn't tell you, like about the special Zeds and the special skills. It's a fun challenge to play this solo, but it would be loads more fun to play with at least 1 friend, especially in terms of carrying loot and claiming vehicles.

This game is super fun. Wasn't a fan of it when I first bought it, however, after playing for 90+ hours, I could say that I have enjoyed it. For new players, I do recommend to start on Green Zone, just so you know what you are doing and know the maps before heading to Lethal Zone. I just started Lethal Zone and looking forward to how I do.

A fun zombie game with scavenging, limited base building and randomly generated survivors. No real story, but it does have simple quests that keep you engaged. There are four "endings" that you can get, and five maps to play that allow for dozens of hours of game play.

Even in 2022 the game is still being updated. I highly recommend State of Decay 2 for any zombie fan.

The game was decently fun for like 13 hours of coop, BUT
- I've never in my life seen so many bugs (broken physics, cars flying around, clipping, etc)
- story is really bad. I've seen porn movies with better plots. Also don't expect much of an ending
- coop is so and so: only the host levels up
- seems the game is unfinished. For instance there were town exists that seem locked as if you could somehow unluck them, but we finished the game and we still didn't

This game is quite a stellar experience. The open and variable maps really added to that experience by offering you many unique possible story lines. Some issues I have is that the quest-lines can feel too short.

I enjoyed the concept of special evolved perks found with your community leader, the varied zombie types, and the different amounts of customization in terms of appearance and vehicles.

One thing I did not expect: I got attached to particular characters - and these characters did not even really have back stories that were interesting or non-generic zombie back stories.

Completing this game makes me want to enjoy the first one and the new one in development.

I have one MAJOR gripe though:

Why the f**k can my friend and I not share a community and develop it together with shared progress? The implementation of multiplayer has no incentive and was absolutely clunky and retardedly pointless.

i hate my zombie itch that i have.
this game looks really good on the outside, but once you get in there are alot of problems
god awful voice acting, tedious mechanics, shallow combat, and a boring gameplay loop. 4/10

It might be ok for some people. Most people even. But for me, the lack of manual savegame in a game like this is a dealbreaker.

This game will automatically save after one (or more) of your characters dies, will not even tell you about it and will not let you load previous (even if automatic) save game.

Bought it on sale an found out it's one of THOSE games where you are not able to choose a white male character in the beginning, and most of the characters are either minorities or alphabet.

requested refund. Just stay away from american games, only play russian games at the moment until america figures itself out.
