Definitely would recommend this for anyone interested in traditional rogue-likes. The genre has a high learning curve but mechanically Tales of Maj'eyal is excellent.
So many different classes and races, which you unlock as you do certain things in the game.

I love the campaign style to the game in that rather than it being one dungeon like most traditional roguelikes, you explore many smaller dungeons each with their own backstory and boss. Each dungeon also has an alternate layout which can quite drastically change enemy types and the final boss. Although the campaign style takes some getting used to, there are some great guides of order to tackle particular portions of the game which helped me get a lot farther and avoid situations where I may get a 1-hit death (although this still happens on some of the harder difficulties).

A good guide is Cath's BFG: https://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=48660

I think this is an accessible roguelike because there are a variety of different game modes - some which give you infinite, finite or no extra lives.

This game is an absolute masterpiece. I could spend all day writing a review, or just tell you that this is a guaranteed game you will absolutely love. The replay value here is endless! 10/10

This right here is one of the best roguelikes I have ever played! not only that, but it may also just be one of the best tactical dungeon crawlers to ever grace Steam. Why is it one of the best roguelikes and mayhaps one of the best dungeon crawlers you may be wondering? Well, PRIMARILY BECAUSE OF THE DEEP CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION AND CLASSES AVAILABLE! Wanna be a berserker and spend the game smashing monsters to a bloody pulp with a tree branch? Well, you can! Wanna not only smash monsters to a bloody pulp, but also be able to literally ROAR your enemies to death too? Well, you can!! Wanna not only use fire and ice magic, but also bend the fabric of time with magic to increase your movement speed and run circles around your enemy? WELL, YOU, CAN!!

There's so many more combinations and crazy skills and abilities that you'll be able to tinker and play around with. Over around 1000+ different combinations, which is pretty grand for a roguelike. Not only that, but races also play an important role in your character too! This essentially means that there is now 10000+ types of characters you can make, as races play an important key role into your character too. They too have skills and talents that are racial exclusive. They also have a different beginning which opens up even MORE possibilities!

My personal favorite character, and the one I beat the game with, was a smol yeti thief that was able to use shadow magic and literally bend the darkness at its will. If the sight of a little adorable yeti like creature manifesting a literal shadow to go and slay a dragon whilst sitting back and throwing fireballs at skeletons won't convince you that this game is worth playing? What if I told you that, yes, THERE'S EVEN MORE!!

Upon reaching a certain level, your character will be able to acquire talents. There's quite a lot of them, and this essentially means that there is now 1000000+ types of characters you are able to make! There's one that allows you to, upon taking around a quarter or more of your health in damage, have your blood literally pour out of you and damage your enemies. There's another one that allows you to turn your body into a dragon, and so much more that you should check out!

Now for the gameplay. It's nothing out of the ordinary for a roguelike dungeon crawler, except that it isn't that ordinary. It's turn based, and very tactical. Well, it's not TOO tactical to the point where you have to spend an entire year learning the system and how the ai functions, but it's complex and interesting enough to where you actually want to learn and master it. In short, it's easy to grasp, but hard to master. There's quite a bit of it to comprehend but you'll get the hang of it I believe in you! :)

As for the story, it's there, but it's not forced down your throat. You'll get interesting lore popups upon entering certain important locations and picking up artifacts here and there, but other than that the story isn't too important to the point where you have to look up the entire lore in-order to understand who, what, when. It's there if you want to read and learn about the interesting characters and world, but not mandatory for enjoyment of the game. I think the enjoyment comes from the randomness and infinite replayability.

Now then, how about it? Sounds intriguing? I hope it was, because this game is super fun to play! Minus my steam hours because I played this quite a bit before it arrived to Steam, I have around 80-90ish or so hours, and don't play to stop anytime soon!

the game is way too deep for me. it seems I mistook the game. I have also passed the deadline for return. the game seems cool for it's potential interested.

This game wasn't a bad one so far. I mean, it could have better graphics and the escorts for my quests could've stayed closer to me when I was helping them out, but other than that, I was getting a kick out of fighting all the enemies and going through the levels. I love hard games, so this was pretty slick so far!

RECIPE TIPS
FREEZING THE BISCUITS
If you’ve frozen the biscuits, take them out and arrange them on a lined baking sheet. Once defrosted, pop them in a medium oven 190C/170 fan/gas mark 5 and heat for 2-3 mins to crisp up. Don’t leave them too long or they’ll dry out.
STORING DOUGH
You can keep the uncooked dough in a sealed container in the fridge for up to two weeks. Simply take some out, dollop on a lined baking tray and allow to come up to room temperature for 5 mins before baking

One of the most addictive, fun, charming and entertaining videogames ever created. It strips down everything unnecessary and focuses to be one of the best grid turn combat roguelikes ever made.
Plenty of options for controls and UI customization, which makes ithe game very accessible despite the appearances. It has a steep learning curve, but an enjoyable one.
Just check how many hours some of the negative reviews have put into it.
Its great.

Basically rogue with graphics and a bit of a storyline. You can eventually unlock more classes/races and overall the game's pretty great. It has a chat feature with online players, too. Totally hooked.

I thought the gameplay looked too oldschool but wow does the game make up for it with raw rpg elements. I love loot and numbers and talents and skills and cooldowns. It's a game I could see myself sinking 200 hours in easily.

An overwhelming trove of adventure, a pillar of classic Roguelikes, and criminally underpriced.

If you like just playing games this one is not for you. You really have to like to learn games in order to enjoy the Tales of Maj'Eyal. There are a lot of nuances and mechanics which safely covered by deceptive simplistic game flow. And when your character dies one more time, you ask yourself why. You find no answer, you ask others and find out that you did too many mistakes. And you learn to do it right. And you really thinking about it and plotting to kill all those bastards, that one-turn melted, burned, frozen to death, tore apart and butchered your precious, cherished elves, dwarfs, writhing ones, etc. And one day they pay with their blood, limbs and guts, every one of them pays and begs you to spare their useless beautifully designed tiles. And that is your sweet revenge done. The dish best served cold, like ice cream, they say. And you'll come back for even more ice cream, you know it.

Played for a couple hundred hours before buying the Steam version, can confirm this game is amazing, complex character builds and incredibly deep, tactical combat. On higher difficulties there is endless fun with randomly generated enemies and items (this shows up way less on normal), so if you've got the hang of the game I'd recommend sliding it up even if you can't beat it.

Now if I could only find a sci-fi version of this kinda game. Yes, I am a derp playing this on easy for the moment to get used to the setup but its retro charm dragged me in. I have people on my steam friends lists with good tastes.

Will restart a character on normal mode after I poke around a bit more.

Best RPG roguelike I have ever played. So many classes and races to unlock. Only won twice in 200 hours. Be ready though, it has a massive amount of depth and a winning run can take upwards of 10-20 hours depending on your speed.

This quite possibly might just be the best game ever made.
I find myself playing other games, trotting through the endless steam libraries only to be disappointed it's not ToME.
The only negative thing about this game (apart from maybe learning curve) is that it will ruin you.
It will make you long for more content, because you already played for hundreds of hours and even the most ambitious of roguelikes will run stale after that much time.
Oh how the heart will start to long for a ToME 5.
I simultaneously recommend this game with every piece of my bone marrow and also would advise any and all brave adventurers to stay awake from this cursed contraption of a game.
