Very fun FPS with all the essentials from modern games. Crafting, skill trees, lockpicking, hacking and stealth that all get the job done.

The graphics are very nice but the animations of the characters and faces remind me of games you would see from around 2007.

I had to admit that it is nice to see the praise that this game has received from the wider community. But unfortunately, I think that praise is driven from a hole that is the lack of decent new FPS on the market. Even though this isn't the most polished game in the world, it does somewhat fill that hole.

If there is one word to describe the whole game, unpolished sure is it. By no means is it bad, but there are plenty of rough edges on what is a mediocre experience overall. Average graphics, poor to average voice acting, average writing, average crafting/levelling system and average game-play. But in saying all that, the atmosphere and story works well for the post-apocalyptic Terminator universe. There really isn't any other games that capture the essence of this franchise, so Resistance at least bring that world alive somewhat.

If you are a fan of Terminator I don't think you'll be disappointed. There are plenty of references and easter eggs amongst the post Skynet world that would satisfy most fans. But if you looking to play a solid FPS that will keep you on your toes, this might leave you wanting. Best on sale for all.

Afterlife
Afterlife

If you are a fan of the first two films, and have been longing for a Terminator medium that actually takes place in a future that looks like it was created by James Cameron. While, a Brad Fiedel score plays in the background. Then this is the game for you. The game does not do anything overly flashy and it's held back by having the resources of a smaller studio. It's more of a love letter two the first films while also trying to tell an original story that adds to the one we already know.

Razer the Fool

Nostalgia aside, if you just wanna blast Terminators set during the War against the Machines then this game is for you. They did the details quite decently on this. The gunplay is decent to mediocre at best and the RPG mechanics are somewhat luck laster but I would still give it a thumbs up.

SplitGameReviews

Do you remember when in the Terminator movies the protagonist…

- Fetched some chalk for a poorly acted child, so he could draw during an apocalypse?
- Walked around peacefully and took his time to snap some photos of enemies and Skynet installations?
- Lock Picked the exact same looking locks an infinite number of times?
- Scavenged a boombox for an older man, so he could play his cassette tapes?
- Strolled for hours on end through murky post-apocalyptic landscapes to scavenge the heck out of crumbled places for items that should've been destroyed during the war?
- Shoots dozens of the same supposedly strong enemy types all by himself?

If so, then you probably watched some goofy parody of The Terminator franchise and never experienced the real deal!

All jokes aside, Terminator Resistance isn't a bad game by any means, but it lacks any form of originality. It's basically a very lightweight version of a Fallout game with some Terminator lore sprinkled throughout its runtime. There is a basic story, you talk to some people and make (tough) choices during conversations while looting, shooting and upgrading your way through uninspired murky landscapes. None of it is executed badly: it's just good enough to enjoy yourself if you dial down your "pickiness" level and it's certainly one of the best Terminator games to date. Although, besides some story beats, the handling of plasma weapons and dealing with enemies that fit the Terminator lore, there were times where everything felt so painstakingly generic, that I completely forgot I was playing a Terminator game. In that sense, there are better Terminator games out there.

It is possible to conclude that Terminator Resistance is an enjoyable B-movie type video game and just buy it at a discounted price. Unfortunately, there are two things that completely ruined the experience for me. The volume of dialogue between people is very inconsistent and goes up and down like the humps of a camel. Moreover, the game's climax is a lazily executed piece of s@#t!! Not only was the volume of the concluding voice over so low, that it was barely audible, but I played for more than twenty hours, did all side missions while making some defining choices and eventually got “rewarded” with a dirt-cheap animated cutscene featuring static imagery that quickly wraps-up the game's storyline! 😒 Screw that! 😡 Don't bother with this game, unless you like wasting your time for an unworthy pay-off!

Considering that this is not a AAA-game it is still a strong game that I would rather play than alot of other high ranking titles. Story is great, especially the DLC. Gameplay can get a bit repetative, with a rather low amount of different AIs. Despite that, this is a brilliant adaptation by devoted fans of the franchise. 10/10 would infiltrate again.

Elric

Combat focused "Deus Ex light" that sticks closely to the Terminator franchise. It shows that the game is not a big budget title, with some fairly heavy reuse of assets, including a few levels that you will be revisiting, some janky animations, simple enemy AI and somewhat dated graphics . But that doesn't get in the way of being a solid and enjoyable experience.

Basically a love letter to Terminator 2. If you liked T2 and want to explore the future world of which you get only a brief glimpse in the movie, this game is made for you.

Scorcher24

The gameplay is not the best ever, but it is a solid shooter and is truthful to the Terminator Universe. I appreciated that a lot and it was fun to play through the game. I've also liked the fan service.

Id say im half way through the campaign, its a decent game has lots of potential. Great if you like terminator lore but boring if you dont. Very repetitive objectives and okay graphics but decent story to it.

Me no Totoro
Me no Totoro

Story: Yes
Gameplay: Yes
Immersion: Yes

Pro:
-Passionate design and love for terminator universe
-Lore respecting gameplay (example: shoot a terminator with non-plasma ammos will never take it down)
-Freedom of approach (Stealth or Loud)
-No Mary Sue protection for named characters
-Choices matter

The game is 100% not AAA quality smoothness, but controls serves it purposes and very little infuriating moments. Unlike other Hollywood titles, Terminator have very little materials to work with and this game made use of them all, elegantly too. It's a nice ride and I enjoyed every second of it. If you like Terminator at all, please support this game so we can get quality games like this one. This is a gem among the DLC and microtransaction fest that we are suffering right now.

This game is a homage to the fans of Terminator 2. It took the best parts of the movie series and made something truly amazing. A great blend of Fallout story mechanics and combat with some minor Destiny/Titanfall elements. It's worth buying on a good sale, and you can pretty easily get all the achievements in one playthrough.

An absolutely thrilling immersive sim and a great example of what AA gaming can be. Not too long, no pointless filler, no 2-hour tutorials - just straight into the action with great level design, storytelling, and systems. More than anything else, it reminded me of the original Deus Ex.

Note that the game received some negative critic reviews on release, but the player reviews are almost all positive. But suffice to say I think the players were right: this is an absolute gem of a game that has had a huge amount of love and care put into it. I don't know why the critics didn't like it. One factor may be that a lot of reviewers these days aren't really gamers; they're just journalists who happen to work on gaming (and often look down on actual gamers). Consequently a lot of the time they don't actually enjoy playing the games they're reviewing and discovering their systems and mechanics. Instead, they just play on the easiest difficulty for a few hours and make a snap judgment based on production values or how much they've been paid by the publisher to promote it. But in any case, the critic reviews are way off base, the player reviews are correct, and you should buy this game.

For my part, I bought this game on a whim in a Steam sale. I'd just finished a gruelling 200 hour Total War campaign and wanted something a bit breezier - just some straight-up shooting. I booted it up and within 30 seconds I was immersed and having fun. The environmental and sound design was spot on, and the RPG-elements (sidequests, skilltrees, dialogue options) were just enough to make my playthrough feel personalised without making me paralysed with choice. The guns feel great, especially the plasma weapons, and I like the amount of freedom you're given to approach gunfights in your own way (it reminds me a bit of the original Far Cry in that respect).

The story is really interesting and slots beautifully in with the wider Terminator universe. I consider myself a moderate fan of the Terminator franchise; I loved the first two movies, and I've played a lot of Terminator games over the years, but I haven't watched any of the follow films or read the comics. But this game made me gloriously nostalgic for T1 and T2, and it nailed the broader atmosphere of the Terminator movies perfectly. There are lots of nice twists and surprises but it all holds together and makes sense. It's also a perfect length for me, taking me approximately 40 hours. That was probably influenced a bit by difficulty settings - I played on the 3rd of the 4 settings ("hardened" or something like that) and I found it perfect for my skill level. Terminators were genuinely scary even late into the game, and I regularly had to step back and reconsider my approach to various challenges, but I didn't get bogged down on a single checkpoint for more than a few attempts. However, I did spend about an hour setting up turrets to kill terminators long before you're supposed to be able to fight them!

Negatives... well, it wouldn't be a fair review if I only said good stuff. But most of my criticisms come from the game's limits as a AA title with its attendant limits on production values. The sound design as I said is excellent but the voice-acting was a little patchy, with some lines sounding a little odd. The graphics are generally very atmospheric (fire and darkness both look very good) but there were a few dodgy textures that stuck out (the minigun for example). The levels are well designed but there's a lot of reuse of the same locations at different times of day. I didn't mind that at all really, because they felt fresh each time and it was nice to revisit them, but it would have been cool to see some different parts of the post-Judgement Day world besides LA and the Hollywood Hills.

Also, some of the skill trees were a little boring, and it would have been good to have them fleshed out a bit more. For example, the first four points you put into Toughness just give you +10% damage resistance each time, with the fifth point giving you +50% and regeneration. It would have been nice if there had been some more interesting things along the way, e.g., faster sprint, less damage from explosions, less damage from falls, etc.. They wouldn't have changed the mechanics much or at all, but would have made progress on that skill tree feel more meaningful. Lastly, I felt that there should have been a perception skill tree, or at least perception elements built into the stealth skill tree. Scavenging is one of the game's great mechanics, but by the end when I had lots of resources, it felt less essential, and a way to quickly highlight all scavengeable items via a special skill unlock would have been great.

Overall, though, a fantastic game, and a rare gem of a superb AA title in the modern deluge of mediocre AAA titles. Buy it!

Absolutely brilliant... its refreshing to see an IP not get ruined and that stays close to the source material. I love how to the Dev's, they only cared about the iconic Terminator 1 and 2, movies I grew up watching.

For canon, take Terminator 1, 2, Sarah Connor Chronicles and this game, then you're golden.

This is the game I've wanted to play since the second movie came out.

I really miss games like this. It isn't a AAA game but more like A. Limited budget by a small dev team. Its a game where the devs respected the source material and made something with heart and it shows.

It plays a lot like the atmosphere of a Metro game with a Fallout-ish vibe. It's not open world, but it's open...maps? Kinda. Youre limited to where you can go in a "map" but there's plenty of room to explore somewhat. It's difficult to explain but let me just say I enjoyed exploring around to find stuff to craft new ammo and gear. Theres main missions and side missions. It's all extremely limited in scope compared to a Fallout game but that's not what it's trying to be anyway.

Great story and characters, fun weapons, upgrades and the crafting is simple enough and works fine. The stealth is actually well done too.

Plus, we get tons of references from the movies, (btw when you get a side mission to find the radio, do it). The theme song as well as synth tracks from the first movie are in here too. And it's all VERY well done. Well, most of it.

The only thing that was a little harsh is the voice acting. It's...not great. Barely serviceable I'd say. And some of the voice mixing is extremely hard to hear, (turn on subtitles). But it still didn't hamper my enjoyment of the game. Haven't bought the dlc yet but definitely going to.

Bottom line is if you enjoyed the first and/or second movies definitely play this. I can't wait to see what the same dev team has planned for Robocop: Rogue City.

And please, for the love of God, make a sequel.

Sadly, no.

And this is coming from a die-hard Terminator and video games fan. I bought it because I love the franchise and I had read the good reviews saying the game is "the best thing that happened to terminator after T2". Unfortunately, this is not true. Why?

First of all, I don't hate T3 Rise of the Machines that much, and in my opinion the game is worse than the third movie. I think Terminator fans are so starved for literally "anything Terminator" that's not a steaming pile of mimetic polyalloy c*ap that they became way too lenient towards anything with glowing red eyes and the ta-da-ta-tada! tune by Brad Fiedel.

My biggest issues with the game:
1. It's a script-ridden obsolete shooter on rails that desperately tries to pretend it's open-world, while in reality it's a corridor-based FPS with some looting, locked doors and ventilation shaft shortcuts. Even though most of the action takes place outdoors in destroyed cities, it quickly turns out there isn't much to explore, as almost everything is blocked by fires, obstacles, collapsed buildings, debris, locked doors, and a ridiculous number of invisible walls.

2. Almost all weapons feel exactly the same. There are normal guns like pistol, shotgun, SMG etc. but they quickly become completely useless once you get your hands on plasma weaponry that sadly feels identical, no matter what you wield. It's all standard Terminator sci-fi "phew-phew!", but with different colors and rate of fire. You can upgrade them (don't get your hopes up, you only change the stats) but it feels like a chore - there is an annoying minigame in which you need to connect 3 matching "skynet chips" to give it extra punch. Problem is, once you do it, it quickly needs to be re-done, because you just found a better chip, but it doesn't match the rest. You end up forcing yourself to do it or ignoring it altogether.

3. Inventory management is a pain in the a*s. While the weapon wheel is okay, the two slots, one for offensive items (grenades, pipe bombs, etc) and one for defensive items (first aid kits and boosters) are just awful. You want to throw an attractor, but have a pipe bomb selected? You need to go to the inventory menu, drag and drop what you need in the slot and unpause the game. Same applies to the other slot. Need a medkit, but also a bullet-time syringe? Use the medkit, pause the game, inventory screen, drag and drop, unpause, use it. And then you need to do it again to bring back the med kit so it's still under the slot button! It's annoying and messes up the pacing.

4. There are too few enemy types. Once you start fighting the feared "exoskeletons", it quickly turns out that they are as deadly as they are dumb. You can outsmart a pursuing T-Whatever by sneaking around a column or some debris. The main protagonist is equipped with hi-tec goggles that somehow allow him to see terminators through walls, but the murderous killing machines can't see him for s*it. They are basically terminator stormtroopers that can be slowly de-healthbared with peek-a-boo tactics from behind any cover. Or they can be torn to shreds with help of conveniently placed explosive plasma barrels. After the first stealth (pretty good one, btw) mission when the player is defenceless they quickly become target practice. You just finished off the last terminator on the map? Great, sit down and pop a cold one because a supercomputer that evaporated most of the humanity won't even send a microwave oven after you. You can also wreck three terminators with a pipe bomb and their egg-timer-for-brains friends standing 20 meters away won't give a piston about it.

5. The game is very short. The only reason why I clocked 21 hours playing it is because I always meticulously explore every in-game area and because I once didn't quit it and went shopping. Because of this the character progress feels way too fast and you quickly become a walking arsenal that eats hyperalloy for breakfast. Even on harder difficulty levels, once you leveled up your character to the max and collected and upgraded all the weapons, you mow down everything on your path as if you were Doom Marine himself.

6. Skynet in this game is beyond stupid. On one side, it eradicated most of humanity, but on the other hand it's tactics, defenses, outposts, turrets, literally everything just scream "destroy me/hack me/walk in here like it's a public toilet". It's really hard to treat it seriously.

7. The story and characters are shallow and not at all memorable. Certain plot mystery is obvious from the very beginning, choices you make almost don't matter at all ( your decisions may kill off side characters, but the ending is a choice between two options that you can freely pick from ) and the ending is a slide show of static, poorly done images.

The good stuff?
It's Terminator, with Terminator vibe and Terminator music. The graphics aren't too bad, I guess. If you are the type of fan who went to see T4:S, T5:G and T6:DF regardless of the franchise's downward spiral since T2, there is a good chance you won't hate this game, but, as always, you will feel disappointed when the end credits start to roll.

tl;dr it's a mediocre, boring, outdated shooter with very basic crafting/RPG/stealth elements. I didn't hate it, I maxed it out, but I can't really recommend it to non-diehard fans, especially for the very steep full price.

Atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere. This game nails that part incredibly well. At points, this game is closer to survival horror than a shooter, and sometimes it allows you to cut loose. Only issue I have is with the (ironically) weak AI, but everything else makes up for it.

Don't bother with this game if you are not Terminator fan.
- gameplay feels a bit old
- AI is super dumb (which is kinda "lore friendly" for older machines, but T-800's are dumb too), at least on hard difficulty shoots really hurt and you get focused like crazy so it's not too easy.
- graphics are ok but don't look too close or you will start finding some really low res textures and geometry (some hitboxes are broken to so you can't shoot enemy even when you see him)
- animations are bad. In cutscenes they are (kinda) OK, but as soon as cutscene ends everyone turns into dolls staring into abyss.
- crafting, leveling system and upgrading (some) weapons is not really deep (and doesn't need to be)
- levels are being reused too much for my taste. Changing time of a day and putting enemies in different spots is not enough.
- "call of duty levels" when you run with a bigger group and fight waves of enemies don't really play well too. You feel like everybody else is doing no damage (and can't die either) so it feels super artificial (but its get better later because you can kill enemies faster so it feels smoother).
BUT
The world, guns, enemies, music and references to the movie feels so good. If you can ride that nostalgia train for a couple of hours you will get your moneys worth. There are also plenty of "that was pretty cool" moments. Ability to talk to your "homies" between missions is nice addition (and provides some optional endings).

As a huge terminator fan it more or less hit the spot. There were some moments of sheer terror bringing back my youth when I watched the movies as a kid having taped it on VHS at 11 years old without my parents knowing using the recording timer.

Music on point, sound effects on point, graphics and atmosphere refreshingly and surprisingly good.

The AI is dumb as a post and easily outsmarted, wandering around lost like Joe Biden doing a speech level of stupid, like if the rise of the machines means these dumb robots... we don't have to worry at all... Despite that, they generally made the story line and side stories work well enough with the stupid ass robots...

I liked that the storylines helped to create the apocalytpic terminator world seen from the good movies (The originals).

The world is semi open world, it at least creates the illusion of being open world'sh.

It has some nice references to the original movies easter egged through out the game.

It feels a lot like fallout meets half life 2 meets terminator vibes.

I will remember this game for giving me frights where I swore from getting such a fright that I started laughing afterwards at how absurdly scared I was to verbally swear and thus frighten my partner and son.

"Daddy got scared by the terminator son"

"Whats a Terminator Daddy?"

"You'll find out when judgement day comes son".

Great work from the developers, now....make it 4 player co-op, left for dead style please and thanks

Not exactly AAA but this game is pretty good. Gameplay is very similar to modern openworld games like Metro Exodus.

The main selling though is the story, it fits perfectly with Terminator 1 and 2.

As far as one would expect a Terminator game to go, this one certainly does a lot of things right. Terminators themselves are machines of death, and you will dread each time they are nearby. If you're not absolutely certain that you have the advantage, then these things will just murder you. Except in the missions where it's a Humans Vs. Terminators firefight. Those missions are AWESOME.

It's the rest of the missions that I find aggravating. The missions where you're operating solo, sneaking around and trying to avoid detection until you can get into a perfectly advantageous position and kill the Terminators using the element of surprise. But the reliance on the games "Ultravision" -- A crippling toggleable vision mode that behaves like night-vision with the added perk of letting the player see through walls to see just how many Terminators there are, and where they are -- is frustrating since while it's active, you can't do anything else but move.

For the "stealth" missions, the number of Terminators on the map strikes me as overkill, given how powerful they are. Every time I die, it just rips me right out of the immersion as I realize just how vulnerable I am. The game would benefit from greatly from reduced numbers of Terminators on the maps, as well as an extra damage bonus for striking from stealth with the element of surprise.

What's really taking me out of the moment now is a mission where I have to solo one of the huge HK land tanks. Sure it can't move, but it's otherwise operational. I find it very hard to believe that a single soldier, no matter how badass, would succeed in such a task. I certainly haven't. Not because the HK itself isn't predictable -- the strategy for taking it down is cut and paste from many a game that came before it -- it's that halfway through the fight reinforcement Terminators spawn in and become a much higher priority threat that's extremely difficult to deal with.

All in all, I'm annoyed more often than I'm happy. Thank God I got it on sale.

If you're a fan of the Terminator series (especially if you prefer to ignore everything after 2), this is the game you've always wanted.

The general gameplay is a mix of stealth and action, with a very Fallout-esque vibe. It has "levels" but by the end of the game, you'll probably have unlocked every important skill, so there's no choices to really sweat over. Just make sure to activate Fast Learner as soon as the game lets you.

The sound design and music are just amazing if you enjoyed the first 2 movies, with the story tying in to them in fairly clever ways, not to mention all the references and easter eggs for fans of those movies. The finale is especially fantastic and one of the highlights of the game imo.

It's fairly short, but is the perfect length for a game like this.

All in all, buy it! Right now!

Never reviewed a game, and this one's late but I need to leave my appreciation for this game. The actual gameplay is nothing too special, and the characters were all a bit meh to me. But, the soundtrack, sound effects, and atmosphere was an overwhelming 10/10 for me as a Terminator fan. After playing through this game their next project (Robocop Rogue City) will most likely be a day one buy from me.

MY RATING: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ✘ ✘ ✘ 7 / 10

The game is based on the first two Terminator films from 1984 and 1991, but without direct reference to them and you can think of the new offshoots of the film series whatever you want, but the first two parts were and are absolute masterpieces in terms of action cinema. In contrast to the films, however, the games have not really been the big hit so far. And that's exactly what should change with Terminator: Resistance...

The story including fan service

We play in the year 2028 in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, around 30 years after Judgment Day as Jacob Rivers, one of the last soldiers of John Connor's resistance movement, who is known to be fighting a hopeless fight against Skynet, and is on the run from the Terminators finds himself after his division is found and eliminated by a mysterious and new opponent. The entry level, the escape from Pasadena, also serves as a tutorial in which the most important game mechanics are explained. However, anyone who has played a shooter before shouldn't have any problems with the game.

After successfully escaping, we team up with a small group of survivors to contact the rest of the resistance. These include Colin, the doctor Erin, the collector Jennifer and her brother Patrick, and the "leader" Ryan. But even before we succeed, we meet a new, even more powerful Terminator model. The T-850, the first Terminator with blood, skin and hair that looks like a human and is intended to accelerate the victory of the machines even more.

In contrast to a pure first-person shooter, Terminator: Resistance is comparatively based on a more pronounced story. Of course, you have to defend yourself regularly with weapons against the machines, although at first you have to keep away from the terminators because of the lack of weapons and sneak past unnoticed through ventilation shafts. The initially available conventional weapons such as pistols and machine guns are only suitable for smaller flying drones or the spider-like search robots. Furthermore, there are a number of role-playing elements. In levels you improve skills such as hacking (which unfortunately reminds you more of a bad Frogger) with which you can then bridge turrets which then target your opponents instead of firing at you. In the beginning, the first level is usually enough, but later on, such things and side jobs can only be mastered with improved skill.

The areas themselves, which apart from the Hollywood Hills, don't really offer much variety, are nevertheless spacious and, apart from the side tasks, offer some scope for exploration. You often come across locked doors that can be opened with a lockpicking mini-game that you already know from other games, provided you have one or more picks with you. Lockpicks, ammunition and other consumables such as stimulants can be made, as is already known from other games, at workbenches with the necessary raw materials collected in the game.

The refuge, which you change several times in the course of the game, is also a kind of regulars' table, apart from the possibility of exchanging the resources you have collected there. All survivors hang around there while we do our missions or side quests. After our return to the we like to listen to the sometimes quite emotional stories of the others. There is also a certain depth here because you have the opportunity to have optional conversations with your fellow campaigners in order to make friends with them and, depending on how the relationship develops, to get them into bed.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2864542840
These conversations also partly answer questions about individual fates that remained unanswered in the films.
The decisions you make in the course of the game can also have unpleasant consequences. However, that was not a motivation for me to continue, mainly because from a certain point the main story, unfortunately, as so often, becomes very predictable.

The first chapter already provides a foretaste of what awaits you in the approximately eight-hour campaign. Shoot, duck, and then shoot again. Unfortunately, the fights don't really feel massive, even with heavy guns. The screen shakes properly when rockets hit it, but unfortunately the weapons look more like oversized toys.
The fights themselves are quite fun, however, because the game manages to adequately expand the range of opponents right up to the end, despite the manageable variety of opponents and the introduction of new weapons. Unfortunately, there is also a problem with the sometimes extremely stupid AI, which is absolutely no challenge, especially from a greater distance. I therefore recommend, unless you just want to run through the game and are looking for a little more challenge, to set the difficulty all the way up.

As far as the graphics are concerned, the game is not on the triple-A level and is not an eye-catcher in that sense. But that is purely visually due to the environment, which is simply not very detailed and the destroyed streets and buildings somehow all look the same. 10 years ago I would certainly have praised the graphics, now it's rather below average, even on the very highest graphics settings.

The Infiltrator Mode

The free update to the game lets you slip into the role of a T-800 and you have to break through the resistance by going in search of information.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2864561006
Of course, a terminator must also terminate, which means you have to take out the Tech-com Field Commander. But be careful when doing this, because if you fail or get destroyed, you'll have to start the mission all over again.
According to the game, the mode lasts a maximum of 45 minutes (if I remember correctly) and is an interesting, entertaining and fun change of pace from the main campaign.

Terminator: Resistance is all in all much better than expected

The game is certainly not a first-class title that you could be completely happy with at the full price, but it is still a quite passable action game with open sections that does not rely quite so much on pure shooting with the crafting system and the sometimes necessary stealth gameplay. The game impresses with an atmosphere that is in no way inferior to the first two films in the franchise.
Once you have come to terms with the staging, which seems quite outdated at the beginning, the rigid facial expressions and gestures of the resisters and the lack of demanding boss fights, the game quickly develops a certain pull effect in which the scenario is appealing and can also be really fun. The grandiose synthesizer sound does the rest.

MY PROS AND CONS:

✅ Entertaining campfire stories
✅ Simple but suitably dramatic synth soundtrack
✅ Rich sound effects
✅ Multiple playstyles possible
✅ Extensive skill system
✅ Fair checkpoints
✅ Different levels of difficulty
✅ End of time mood
✅ Well-written characters
✅ Large arsenal of weapons
✅ Numerous side quests
✅ Multiple endings
✅ Lots of hints for Terminator fans

❌ Backdrops, gestures and facial expressions look old
❌ Partially stupid acting AI
❌ Better weapons make the action too easy later
❌ Boring hack and lockpick minigames
❌ Relatively short campaign and small levels
❌ Predictable twists
❌ Blunt fights

I was skeptical at first when I first saw this game, mostly because I am such a hardcore Terminator movie fan. I bought the game anyway, because I was curious. Luckily, this game did NOT disappoint.

I binged this game from beginning to end, story mode was great! You can really get a feel for the characters and this game just makes you want to continue with a mission. I recommend this game if you want a good shooter, story mode type game. From start to finish, you will NOT want to stop playing.

Definite must-play for die-hard T1 & 2 fans, it has all the sounds, ambient music and winks to the movies you would expect from a Terminator game for fans, by fans.
It's certainly not perfect, a lot of gameplay mechanics feel like shooters from 10 years ago and the environment might not have as much content as we expect today, but until the end the Terminators remain a constant threat, sneaking is often the best way when you're going solo, and the action it very reminiscent of the movies.

If you've reached the end and enjoyed the game overall, Annihilation Line might be worth the buy if you want more of the same. It doesn't add too much new to the existing story and the ending was short and left me unsatisfied, but overall it's a welcome addition.

Outstanding.
Great mix of stealth and kill 'em all action, and some RPG elements and a story that fits very well in the franchise.
Plus multiple endings!

Wanted a cheap and cheerful FPS to go through and this game ticked all the boxes and more. Can feel a bit drawn out at times with some fetch quests but the world is solid, the story is good and while some of the guns lack a bit of oomfph, the combat really feels and looks really good too. The machines are well animated, the set pieces and boss fights are great fun. Would give it a rock solid 7.5/10 which for a game based on the Terminator franchise is great.

Overall I liked it.

This doesn't feel like a AAA game at all. All of it is a little B rated in my opinion, but it's still a rather enjoyable game.
One thing that really stood out is the explosions, they were amazing. You really feel the power of each blast. It's unlike anything I've seen in a video game and other DEVs should take note. There's no reason why every game can't have this.
I would spend the money if the DEVs made another game.

It is actually a fun game. It is not easy. YOu need to scavenge to get ammo or you will have to stealth.

Positively surprised! At times boring, repetitive, scripted and frustrating but all in all I can see that true effort was put into this production by the developers and as a fan of Terminator 1 and 2 movies I can appreciate that and as a result I'm going to recommend this game. 4 with a minus out of 5. It's quite enjoyable but the player must be forgiving especially at the beginning and when machines act plain stupid or the same music bits go round and round. Got the game at a discount with the expansion and as such I feel it was worth it. If you like shooters that don't require much thinking and enjoy good atmosphere and storyline you will like it. Recommend playing it either on hard or extreme difficulty.

Although the AI is janky and the graphics a bit dated, I actually enjoyed this game. I think Teyon did a great job capturing the Terminator feel with the music and sound effects. I hope they make a bigger and better sequel, hopefully with a larger budget.

It's a really well made game that actually sticks to the story! Definitely enjoyed playing this and being in the world of Terminators :P

Of course as soon as I beat the main campaign i dove right into the DLC, because how can you simply end it there! Would i replay the game? Maybe a few times, it has some replay ability and a good story.

This game is absolutely fantastic and a must have if you're a Terminator fan! It might be obvious at times that it doesn't have the *highest* budget, but the passion and detail that oozes from this gem is too good to be ignored. Everybody involved in this game's development should feel very proud!

One of the best Terminator games out on the market. I really feel the atmosphere and luv the grafix, lightning and reflections. The story is solid (we already know it I guess), well delivered and it totally makes sense we're playin the other side of it, that part only barely shown in the movies.

In itself without any other gaming experience this would be kind of a masterpiece I guess - even with the old fashioned and making you cringe "magical lovescenes" we already experienced in Dragon Age - but as a todays game it's pretty weak.

Small large areas that are mostly empty, hundreds of times mentioned clunky animations with floating effects and that jesus hovering all the time like they forgot objects also move in the z-axis, missmatching textures and other weird noobstuff you shouldn't face these days anymore. Also the shooting and charactermovement feels off wich is kind of a killer for a FPS...
On the other hand I have no idea how big the budget was and how many people they had. As I mentioned on top the atmosphere is really top edge.. I sometimes moved extra slow just to inhale the whole setting. How light is falling in so many places, the nightvision and especially the look of your lamp is so realistic that I hardly want to accept that they didn't continue working on this for another year and getting the edges bit more rounded. There are even some jump scare moments if you move less careful. I really like it somehow.. I just wouldn't recommend it as a good shooter. Still the best Terminator though, so for franchise fans probably a matter of duty :)
All in all one of the most beatiful and entertaining weak games I played so far.

Mike LeCoq
Mike LeCoq

Do you love the first two Terminator movies? If yes, then this game is for you. First off, I have to say that this game has a lot of limitations, and mechanically it's nowhere near perfect. Your path is pretty linear, aside from few missions where you get to explore a bit more. The exploration isn't really rewarded, in any meaningful way though. You won't find anything unique or exciting. Just the usual stuff, crafting supplies and equipment, ammo etc. All the "open world" stuff that's been advertised by some, is just window dressing. See that pile of rubble, I wonder what's on the other side of it. It looks like the first slab of concrete is about knee high. You should be able to jump on it. But if it's not on the path the game wants you to take, the game says NNNÖÖÖÖYYY, you shall not pass!

Without going into too much detail, I can safely describe all of the games mechanics as 'old'. This feels like an old first person shooter. At some point it reminded of Future Shock, and Skynet games I used to play in the nineties with all it's linearity and clunkiness. The environments are all just shades of grey, and I'm surprised how many Pintos Ford was able to sell before the war. I mean, they're everywhere. That means, a lot of the assets are reused throughout the game, and there's not much variation. That doesn't matter either, because the Terminators look good for the most part.

Does any of this bother me? Not really, because there's a dark, atmospheric Terminator experience if you look past the simple mechanics. I can't quite put it to words but it feels like you exist in the world, where all that's left is a bitter struggle against the unstoppable machines. Just like in the movies! The awesome soundtrack helps a lot, and seems to play the right tracks at the right moment.

I played the game on the hardest difficulty, and even though it was not that challenging, I had a lot of tense moments from start to finish. It's not a very long game, but best played in shorter rather than long sessions. Otherwise you'll start to see through the cracks in the facade, and that takes away from the experience. There is interaction with other characters, and some of it feels somewhat meaningful too. It's not deep stuff but to me it was a nice addition, and your choices have a big meaning at one point in the game at least.

I quite enjoyed the story too. It's not high art, but some of it follows along the lines of the first two movies, in spirit at least. It's what you'd expect from a story set in a universe like the Terminator franchise, and it kept me interested enough from start to finish. In addition to the story mode, there's the Infiltrator Mode that puts you in the boots of a T-800, on a mission to gather intel and eliminate a Tech-Com officer. This mode is really cool, mainly because of the red "Terminator Vision", with all the status messages running across the screen. They really captured the feel of playing as an unstoppable, cold killing machine.

This game is best described, as the "Love Letter" type on a budget. It's undeniable that the developers had limited funds to realize their vision, but they were able to make a pretty good game regardless. They put the effort where it counts, which is the atmosphere. It's clear that the development team has respect for the subject matter, and are probably fans themselves. There's a lot of bad press regarding this game, and most of it is unwarranted.

If you have no attachment to the Terminator franchise (especially the first movie, and T2), then I guess you could feel disappointed by the game. If on the other hand, you think fondly of those aforementioned movies and they had an impact on you growing up, then I bet you will enjoy this game.

TLDR:
Gameplay mechanics: AVERAGE
Visuals: AVERAGE/GOOD
Sounds: GOOD
Music: EXCELLENT
Story: AVERAGE/GOOD
Atmosphere: EXCELLENT
Replayability: NOT LIKELY

MoarAsianThanU
MoarAsianThanU

It's very clear from every element in the game that the developers, just like Terminator fans, know that T1 and T2 are the best films in the Terminator franchise and have the best timeline. It sounds trite, but whatever minor complaints I have about the game don't even matter when you look at the love and affection the devs have for this game.

A great game at a reasonable price. And the DLC is pretty good, to boot. 8/10.

I Would highly HIGHLY recommend any fan of the series to play this game, there is a good amount of fan service and references as far back to the first Terminator film.

I wanted to like this game, and from what I played of it I kinda did. However, whenever you aim down sights it zooms in so far that it made me physically ill. I've never felt that way with any other game before. If this gets dealt with or even if there was a mod to fix this issue, I would love to try again.

Its an FPS that lacks the spit and polish of the very best AAA titles at a technical level, but makes up for its shortcomings in heart and soul. If your not a fan of the franchise this may not be for you, but if you are, you will be pleasantly surprised by how good this is. I enjoyed my time with this game and would consider it canon over the films that followed T2 any day of the week. Looking forward to cracking on with the DLC which I hear is an improvement on the main game. If so and they keep this momentum going, I cant wait to see what they do with Robocop.

3RR0R-01

Content wise good but the bugs in this game with hit detection and cover need work. Also one of the times I played a terminator just glided across the ground and didn't move it's legs. It was funny but please fix things like this. This game has a lot of potential and is fun when it doesn't have a hiccup.

Guai lo Ren
Guai lo Ren

A good mid-budget game

This isn't the best fps game you'll ever play, you've probably seen all of these mechanics before in other games (and with less jank) But you've never seen them in a terminator game before. It's the best Terminator media since the 2nd film. What this game does best is the atmosphere (complete with purple lasers) If you're a fan of the original movies and their future war scenes this is definitely worth your time.

Quenchiest
Quenchiest

The gameplay is your pretty standard stealth or run&gun action FPS. Nothing groundbreaking to write home about. But it does it decently and without major flaws. Although you can spray and pray, the terminators are extremely deadly and you're much better off utilizing stealth for the open exploration areas. The voice acting and story also aren't spectacular, with ups and downs in quality, but this overall gets a thumbs up because it has a logical story tie-in to the James Cameron movies.

Estonniel
Estonniel

For a Terminator game, this game is the best ice on the cake. especially if playing it on Hard or Extreme mode first time doing the game, makes you feel your in a real future war and everything really is out there trying to kill you.

Music as well Extremely well done, a true tribute to the original Terminator movies from back in the 80s and 90s

ShaggyOldForest
ShaggyOldForest

Very nice game, quite well balanced on the hard level, where sometimes the ammunition is too valuable and you have to sneak a bit and help yourself by hacking Skynet's devices. DLC gives fun (terminators in DLC are - in my opinion - more demanding opponents than in the base game) and the infiltrator mode gives mixed feelings about the annihilation of human civilization. Different endings (every choice matters), quite interesting story based on the movie, nice music - strong 7/10.

HYPERALLOY
HYPERALLOY

This game is what happens if someone tries to make a modern day version of Terminator: Future Shock + Skynet, but with current tech. They've literally pushed the limits of what's possible given their obviously limited time and budget, but wisely chose to focus on aspects that make it a true Terminator game: Lore and Soundtrack. An 8/10 as it is, but could easily get a 9-9.5 out of 10 if given AAA time and budget.

Jarcionek
Jarcionek

A very good game with interesting story. It's well polished without any game breaking bugs, although I did get stuck in the debris once, after jumping off the building.

A lot of references to the movies, even the entrance to the Resistance shelter looks exactly like in the movie, with dogs, a car on the right side etc.

The most annoying issue is that game save doesn't save the bodies (that can be looted), which means that if you kill something, a checkpoint save happens, you loot the bodies and then you die and have to restart from the checkpoint - that loot is gone.

The game is a bit pricey as for the ~15h campaign with no replayability incentive. However, having bought it at -60% sale for just £14.00, I am happy with the purchase.

Kapurnicus
Kapurnicus

If you love the movies, buy this game. It (imo) a perfect creation of post judgement day Earth. You'll see the enemies you expect (the HKs and T-series). It's half stealth half run-and-gun with a good balance between the two. Weapons are fun. You usually can find a way to not have to fight something, but not always. The save points are plentiful so game play being challenging is not a deal breaker (its not dark souls difficult either). Great story that doesn't seem to break or retcon anything, yet expands upon the expected story. You have some choices ( Yes, you can fuck the hot girl, quite graphically. I enjoyed that. .

Overall. I love it. Best single player campaign I've played in a while.

XitArS
XitArS

Great atmosphere in this sci-fi shooter. Has some small RPG-elements to it and some story choices where your actions will have an actual impact on the story. Might be a bit linear for the modern spoiled brats but if you don't want to spend five hours going from one side of the map to the other, then this game is great! I recommend playing on hardest difficulty, even for novice players as the other difficulties are way too easy.

Great terminator game. Main game is great. Infiltrator mode is interesting, but the DLC had some shortcomings at the end. All in all great terminator game.

I played the game on extreme difficulty from the start with 0 knowledge of the game.
Though I did find

The Good:
Feels authentic to the franchise
Gun play is good. Plasma Weapons feels nice
Enemies are brutal (on extreme)
It was a challenge and felt like you were fighting terminators as they killed you quickly if you were out of position.
Story is cheesy
Player choices matters on ending
Crafting and resource collecting
Skynet has no dialogue with you
Some allied NPC characters dies in non heroic ways, sometimes quite quick and mercilessly.
Exploring is rewarding

The not so good
Audio mixing on protagonist gets drowned out by music, not sure how this got past quality control. The DLC did not have this issue.
Story is very predictable. Acting is "now I talk, now you talk, now I talk , now you talk"
Allied NPC Characters are bland and forget-able, no emotion, everyone reads from a script with little to soul, with a few exceptions
Fights never progressed without you, allied NPC's will wait forever, telling you to hurry over and over until you show up. It's very clear you are the protagonist and the world doesn't progress without you.

The bad
Plasma Sniper Rifle stacking is too good. Ended up with over 1000 ammo at the end as I always went in plus each fight when looting everything.
It said that under extreme difficulty resources were supposed to be scarce, but I could take every single fight in the game, win and come out with more bullets than I started with.
Some balancing was needed there. As this was the optimal strategy for the base game and the DLC.
There was literally no point in using any weapon besides the sniper rifle, rocket launcher / grenade launcher and grenades. Sniper used less ammo, did more damage and could be cheese from far away with no risk to the player. Why would I bother go for a stab when I can two shot quickscope every terminator with ease at any range?
Health system is a joke. You basically have a "resist death" where you reach low health. And the AI's won't shoot you until some time has passed. This became painfully obvious making it so I never really had to use a healthpack ever (only on the last DLC boss).
The last part of the DLC breaks the rules that the game follows entirely. Suddenly stealth is mandatory (has been optional throughout the entire game until now) and Allied NPC's suddenly has their plotarmor removed, making them die (and also you die) instantly if spotted.
Some abuseable things with the AI, specifically how they are tied to loaded chunks of the map, Making it so you can walk back to de-render the terminator, wait for your health to regenerate, walk forward, as the terminator would spawn in the same spot, shoot once, step back, repeat until dead. This was immersion breaking.

Still a fun game even if you don't know that much about Terminator.

Dmytrius
Dmytrius

Pretty good game in Terminator university! Nevertheless, I don't feel like playing it for the second time, because it doesn't have much of replayability. Different outcomes for characters can be seen on the net.

The only thing I don't like is my overestimations. I thought researching locations would give me something better than just paper notes. No. Searching high and low makes sense only to fulfill your supplies if you don't have enough. It's definitely not a problem on Regular difficulty. Otherwise, you should go to map spots point at either main or secondary missions up to the end of the game.

Secondary missions could be done better too. They look original, but they still match "find and fetch" principle, like in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Usually, it's about getting along with the characters, but their approvals/disapprovals don't influence the game that much. It's like reputations from Fallout, for example.
The last secondary mission, which automatically triggers at the beginning, when you come to the city centre at night, is a waste of time.

The storyline looks a little choppy because, when the 2nd act is over, you have to do plenty of arrangements that don't really make much sense. Not only to you, but all the characters that give you orders to complete this part of the story.
Also, the final mission begins unexpectedly. They could have lead the story even further, but I guess they decided to finish it here and now because they thought players are already tired of playing and willing to see the ending.

In short, it's good game for 1 complete walkthrough. Solid 7/10

This game was awesome. This is definitely the best Terminator game I have played. There is also an Infiltrator mode where you play as a Terminator. The game is not perfect, but considering the limited resources the studio had, I am very impressed. I did notice a small bug in the Infiltrator mode, going into the area where you end the game. Every time I looked at the control pad to open the room, it lagged pretty bad. It made it as if I could not move into the hallway.

Game has it Good moments, Amazing enemy models, some of the environments have the look and feel of the films, Game play loop of looting and hiding its Fun. however the game plays Bland after several hours, once the game buffs the player with overpower perks it fails to introduce many game mechanics to spice up the game play or balance it out, the game does not have unlocking and hacking mechanics but they do get old fast. highly recommend playing the game on Hard mode to get an early good feeling about survival. game becomes much easier after the early hours. also i had Zero crashes, zero texture issues, and zero environment glitches. small enemy collision issues here and there but not even an issue. This game right here is what is known as a passion project. The Devs genuinely gave a damn about the franchise, and it shows. The game's mechanics seem a bit dated compared to modern shooters, but if anything it gives it the charm of being in the 2000s when the franchise was at its height.

As an Open World looter shooter, it's weak. As a Terminator game, it's a huuuuge fan service and probably the best out there.

It's worth the price and it's fun.

As a huge Terminator fan, it's clear that the creators of this game love the first two Terminator movies. (The only Terminator movies... right? RIGHT?) Every bit of every map and every terminator enemy and Skynet element is wonderfully crafted. The game is cram-packed with references to the movies... Some come across as fairly forced, but that's ok. This game really does feel like the post apocalyptic terminator world, and the sounds are spot on.

The rest of the game kind of feels like it was thrown together. Objectively speaking, the game is 'just ok'. The game play is not especially polished, the human characters are not modeled or animated particularly well, the voice acting is not great, the story is linear and predictable... but none of that matters very much because they did such a great job with ambiance, world creation, lighting, sound effects and Terminators.

I really enjoyed this game. It's like an old-school shooter: no non-sense, simple story and good set pieces / maps. I hope we can get more games like this in the future!

Great game that honors the films the first two anyways which are really the only ones that matter to me. Plus it's not agitprop. Great mix of action and story loved every minute of it. You can tell the developers care about the source material I want more Terminator games like this. I played the Main Campaign, the Annihilation Line DLC (worth buying), and Infiltrator mode. They were all great so glad I have this in my library.

I played it on Normal because I felt that Hard was too tedious for me it was a real challenge for me on Hard because it forced a lot more stealth so it was more a challenge of my patience when I really wanted to go in guns blazing so I dropped it down a bit. I restarted the game early on when I switched difficulty and it probably gets a lot easier on higher difficulties as it goes on as more weapons become available. I imagine the level beyond hard is just more forced stealth due to limitations of your assault power and how much damage you take so keep that in mind when you decide on difficulty as far as what play style you want to go for. Difficulty mostly seems to ramp up to making the enemies more spongy and you weaker as far as taking damage enemy tactics are the same but their awareness of you is probably increased as well. It basically ramps up the emphasis on Terminator knives, use of the environment and outright avoiding combat to complete objectives which is fine if you've got the patience and are into that.

I thought the stealth was fun too I just didn't want to limit myself to it out of necessity also be careful when throwing grenades or shooting an RPG. It may look like you have room to shoot over a wall but I'd stick to being cautious because several times I blew myself up from a missile/grenade that didn't clear a wall when I thought it should have. It was a minor thing that happened a few times and didn't ruin the experience for me once I adjusted.

Played 10 minutes of it and was not worth 60 dollars.
- Sound Design:
Aweful and washed out.
Sounds dont match up well with their origins. like guns and lazer rifles feel like im shooting a peashooter.
For some reason the sounds from my hand gun are like im firing it from 50 meters away.
Some audio clips dont even play where you would expect audio. such as the T-800 stamping on a skull in the opening cut scene.
The VA for the random Resistance member telling you everything about where to go, what to do and how to do it, are seriously off putting.
The games intro could have played better if the player was left to fend for themselves.
The random at the beginning of the game asks us where the rest of the resistance members are before being picked up and shot by a soundless lazer rifle.

The Animations:
The animations need serious work:
The openning cut scene with the random guy being picked up and shot by the T-800 doesnt even ragdoll slightly he goes from lively moving around to instant slouched over the next frame.
The random NPCs in the opening while running from the T-800s get shot once and dont ragdoll onto the ground they just are randomly teleported into a fixed position and theres no sound when they get shot, no lazer penetration or skin explosion sound effect that you would expect from a super heated lazer weapon boiling the inside of a persons skin. no screams from the npcs when they die. nothing......
The T-800s are animated nicely but in comparison it feels like most of the budget for sound design and graphics went to designing them.
The graphic fedelity on its highest setting are what i would expect from an indie dev studio asking a smaller buying cost not a 60$ release (yes i bought it for $22.78).

Until the sound and animation (graphics i dont expect to get higher quality) issues are patched, i cant recommend this game and ive only played the first 6 minutes but they were so hard to ignore that i couldnt play as it was making me mad how cheap the sound effects were.

worth it if on sale
-good story
-ok gunplay
-needs more weapon vareity, quite literally no need to keep old weapon once you get a stronger weapon
-feels like a simplified metro exodus (sandbox levels) but with terminator enemies
-dialogue is good, very rare case of lip syncing issues, happened twice with 1 character only (Jennifer)
-missions arent too long but dont feel too short, either short to medium (perfect mission length)
-there are side missions, some you have to go out of your way from, but the xp is worth it
-xp grind early on does not feel like a grind, it feels natural, havent reached Endgame territory yet though.
-you get new stuff fairly frequently

Terminator: Resistance is an old school shooter with an RPG level system, this game is the most truly Terminator feeling thing made since the second movie and though it has some small problems i suggest that anyone who is a fan of the first two movies and who wants to get a real feeling for what it would be like after judgement day should play this game.

Frogger, but cars are skynet

Cons:
Strange mix of mechanics taken from different games.
If you like FPS you will hate it because mechanics are wooden.
If you like stealth games , you will also hate it, because AI walks on predeterminate paths and behave like there was not net in skynet - kill one of them, nobody cares, just do your job and walk in circle.
Killing machines earn you XP, which is contradiction to stealth mode.
cRPG mechanics are so extended as advertised choice matter - > don't expect much. Open world? Thre is map, its open ocassionaly, but please stick to the path.

Pros:
Crt monitors lying around (no LCDs in 80s vision of the future)
Unreal engine

A secret banger of a game. Voice acting is somewhat dubious, but the tone and feel of the game really shows the developers understood the source material (i.e. T1 & T2). Worth a play, and hopefully one day might spawn a sequel that improves upon what Resistance started.

A solid B tier game. Don't go in expecting AAA budgets or super tight controls. This game has problems, sure, but for a small Polish team to really nail the best parts of Terminator 1 & 2, make a fairly decent shooter, and ape some of the best features of Fallout 3... you got a recipe for a good time. As a fan of the series and a fan of mid tier game, I highly recommend this game; just maybe not at full price. If you can pick it up for $20 or less, it's a great little weekend time sink. 8/10

Good overall game. However I quit playing after 14 hours because I got sick of missions where a key character got killed over and over again. This forces you to replay missions from last auto-save over and over. Characters don't interact except in story fixed dialogues.
NOW THE GOOD:
> Battle system is Real Time and works very good.
> Campaigns contain a good amount of sub-quests, but not an overwhelming amount.
> Has a good variety of Mech baddies, both ground and aerial.
> Crafting can be done, but is limited - but mostly for increases inventory.
> A good amount of skill and stat level ups.
> Game is a good buy for the price, and never crashed! Worked great on my mid range gaming PC.

Such a fantastic game. Took me around 25 hours to complete - the story line was top notch - the visuals were terrific - loved the night scenes. When the forest missions hit (how did a forest survive a global nuclear armageddon?) - felt like a dip in the game - but getting back to the devastated grim future missions - the atmosphere was electric.
Without spoiling - felt such goosebumps with the Connor scene - you know which one Im talking about! The nostalgia tied into the gameplay was insane!

CURE

Gunplay isn't that great, voice acting ranges from 'okay' to just straight up bad, sorta half-baked RPG mechanics but the story is great and is probably the most faithful take on the source material established in T1 and T2 yet. Everything comes together nicely. The music is ripped straight from the movies, the story itself ties nicely into the movies by the end, and all the art and assets look ripped straight out of the future war scenes from the movies. Basically, it's a game for fans of the movies who can look past some crazy shoestring budget jank and smile at all the references and the stellar atmoshpere.

It's got some great sound design but the npc models look like they're 10 years old and the menus are the most basic I have seen.

I encountered a bug at the first hideout where this motion blur effect is permanently stuck on my camera unless I exit the game.

One thing that is a pet peeve of mine is when game developers let you change the keybinding for something like Inventory in this case but force you to hit Escape to exit that menu. Example, my keybinding for Inventory Menu is set to C so when I enter that menu I expect to be able to hit C again to exit it. It is not, so I have to reach far top left and hit Esc to get back to the game.

theHunter Call of the Wild had this problem for YEARS until they finally fixed it. I don't expect them to fix this issue now since the game has been out for a few years, but that doesn't mean I need to give them a thumbs up either.

I ended up refunding after 1.5h because the game was lacking in all the areas I find important in a shooter that builds on atmosphere. The voice acting and facial animations were not the quality I expect from a 2019 Game. The combat-music and the "normal" music were grinding against each other a lot. The level design was falling short in terms of feeling believable and in terms of proper size in comparison to the characters field of view and "perceived height" (you know, it felt like the player character was the wrong size in comparison the the items and objects in the world). On top of that the early missions / objectives were rather boring, uninspired and so were the levels as such: Lots of semi-secret routes that did not turn out to be anything special.

So, what you can expect here: A game that tries to invoke the Terminator Atmosphere that you can imagine from the early bits of the Films where we get a glimpse into the future. Sadly also a game that fails to do so, at least for me, the game world felt uninteresting, hard to believe or immerse myself in. The characters were sort of paper-people saying things that I did not really care about.

Then there is sneaking and some game features around that, which could work great, but in the first 1.5h you do not need them or they are 100% useless.

The XP and Crafting feels glued onto a game that does have no clue what it wants to be and for what kind of audience.

And now here is the Punchline: All the above would NOT matter, if the guns had any feeling of impact at all, if the aiming would be snappy and precise, if the enemies were interesting at all, if there was any challenge or shooter feeling to this game. Any sense of dread or danger. There is no such thing (I was playing on Hard difficulty and did not see any difficulty anywhere). It is like walking through a washed out nightmare of ideas, whose good features were lost somewhere in the course of the development.

I would probably not even recommend this for fans, setting it to easiest mode and play it for the story.

I am really sorry to write this, since I would have loved a Terminator game that was more for me and less like this one here.

This game feels and plays like Fallout 4, except the story is actually bearable and enjoyable and the side quests don't feel hammy and forced.

The game is clear and concise and you don't need to be a Terminator lore buff to understand what's going on. I haven't even watched any of the films and I could still enjoy this game.

Apparently the timeline is a complete catastrophe, so don't try to think about that.

This game is full of contradictions, it’s a mix bag of brilliancy and amateur moments. But the good does outweight the bad here.
Starting out, there are tell-tale signs of a mediocre and heart-less shooting game. However, by the end, it has one of the most memorable battles and story that’s in a true Terminator fashion. The environment and world design successfully recreate the essence of Terminator’s universe; but it’s plagued with low quality textures even on highest settings. Same for music, roaming soundtracks are extremely repetitive but ending music is great. What more is that the AI is rather dumb. But gameplay is never too easy, fully fitted for a story about fighting for survival. Also, most side characters feel like shallow addons without much impacts to the main story. But regardless, the game tells a great tale of the protagonist and what’s left of humanity fighting against extinction.
With all these factors combine, despite of many noticeable missteps, the devs successfully conveys the deadliness, the looming threats and the heart of Terminator series throughout the game.

I'll start with the positive. They've created the Terminator world as it should look and there are moments of the game where it is actually fun to play. I bought it in a sale but I'm still not sure its worth the $20 sale price.

The game has the potential to be really good (the trailer looks amazing!). However, what you actually get is a modern Medal of Honor. The maps force you along a certain path. Sometimes the path is wider, giving the illusion of open world, but its not! The storyline is mundanely predictable and boring and the script is as bad as the voice acting. I found myself skipping some of the dialog as it was too cringey to listen to!

The AI of the Terminators is dumb, if you've ever played Terminator: Salvation, it's on a par with that level of dumb!
There certain points on maps that trigger Terminator spawns, so you can scan a corridor or building ahead and see that it's clear but when hitting a certain point Terminators will just suddenly spawn around the a corner.

There are a few moments where the music is good, playing snippets of nostalgia from the original movie but even these are not samples, just modern versions. But most of the time it's action rock music.

Given all the (many!) terrible things about this game, it still has a spark of 'something' that keeps you playing but you'll hate yourself for doing so. I can't openly recommend this game but there is 30% enjoyable and fun gameplay, but negated with 70% boring, predictable and annoying gameplay.

So this game is from the developers of Rambo the Video Game ? wtf ?

This game is to the Terminator franchise what Alien: Isolation is for the Alien franchise but with a smaller budget.
The grim atmosphere, the story, this game has the Terminator movies (1 and 2) in its DNA.

I had a blast playing this game. It's just pure fun.
I did enjoy the story, gameplay and the iconic music.
It's wonderfull to see that in a FPS we can have a button to toggle the flashlight and nigh vision on and off. How this feature became outdated ?
The story beats were on point. Even the more "corridor shooter" missions were fun,
A really great mish mash of open world and a corridor shooter.

One "boss fight" on extreme difficulty was a drag because the enemy just had too much HP.
That's my only con.

Solid game based on the Terminator 1/2 movie timeline. If you want to play a Fallout game but in the Terminator universe, then this is for you.

The sound effects and music are top notch. Terminators are also just as scary as in the movie. Trying to rush into combat against them gung-ho will lead to you getting cut down within seconds. I had to carefully plan my encounters and use the tools I had to take them down. Stealth headshots, hacking nearby turrets, setting up tracks then luring enemies to them, scouting the area and making note of where good places to hide are, these are just a few things I did. Even in the very last mission you still need to carefully take them out. I recommend playing the game on hard, as it makes the Terminator's truly scary opponents.

The rest of the game feels a bit constrained. It feels like they could've broadened some areas of the game, but the developers knew their limitations. The plot and gameplay are simple, and while it doesn't lead to things being overly convoluted you can feel some areas would've benefited from some additional polish. A perfect example is the weapon and crafting system. Want to make AP rounds for your assault rifles? Too bad. Only energy weapons can be upgraded. By only a third of the way in the game I was drowning in energy weapon ammo to the point where non-energy ammo was just something to be sold for money. Upgraded plasma weapons are disgustingly strong. This wasn't enough to damage my enjoyment of the game, just something I wished was different.

I think the full price version of this game is a little expensive, but this was a game made by people who understand and love the Terminator franchise. Grab it when it's on sale.

Don't know how this game showed up on my recommended list but I am glad it did. Solid shooter and probably the best Terminator game I know of. Also infiltrator mode is very fun, full of easter eggs for the first two movies.

Triple Musket Man

Overall for $15 I can't really complain. It's basically fallout lite with terminators. If it had an open world I'd be all about it, but the segmented maps are pretty linear.

This game made me actually feel something. Which is rare in games these days. Not to say that I don't enjoy most of the games I play, but the ending... that is exactly what I wanted in a movie. I know Terminator Genisys didn't do too well box office wise, but I love the idea of fighting skynet and terminators head on. If you love the Terminator movies, you should love this game. A few things that could be improved are the overall progression of the weapons. For example, once you get the plasma weapons, I found it hard to use anything else.

Strelok

Wouldn't recommend at full price. $20 at most (IMO).
Infiltrator mode is more fun than standard story (no replay value).

On paper this game absolutely sucks, but some of it's faults actually work with it to make it tolerable and actually enjoyable.

Enemies are bullet sponges and your weapons are absolutely anemic, but their AI is terrible and easily exploited. Every encounter feels like fighting actual killer robots.

Exploration is very rewarding not because there's a large amount of new stuff to find but because you can crank out overpowered pipe bombs to take on the late game terminators when the usefulness of even end game weapons takes a nosedive. But in the end, you do feel like a weak ass junker in the middle of a robot apocalypse.

The graphics aren't wonderful but the story itself is very Terminator and solid enough to keep you playing.

Best mediocre game I ever bought.

Excellent game. Even though I am not much of a Terminator fan, it was a very enjoyable B game.

+ Decent graphics and special effects.
+ Music is what you would expect from a Terminator game.
+ Dialogue options that matter.
+ Characters are interesting.
+ Optimization. Played on Ultra and had no problems.
+ Game even has romance and some sex at the end!

-
- Stealth. You move very slow, enemies turn around very often and the only weapon that utilizes stealth is knife that kills T-800 with one stab. Fortunately it's not mandatory (except for one mission).
- Facial animations are what you would expect from a low budget game.
- Firearms quickly become useless and 80% (maybe even 90) of the game you will be running with plasma weapons.
- "Infiltrator" mode (the one that let's you play as Terminator) is 45 minutes long and has almost 0 story in it.

If this was on any Game Engine other than Unreal this would have been the best game made in years and an instant classic.

As it is, It's hard to get immersed because overall feel, the arcadeyness, the fast paced low recoil shooting, Someone said that the guns are satisfying to shoot - strongly disagree, very much feels like you're moving a floating crosshair around. The enviroments also encourage you to rush through as fast as possible. The whole thing ends up a frantic rushed kind of experience and thats a real shame, because this should have been a slow, dark, creeping experience.

But. That finale though. Best thing in years. There is a few really unexpected and awesome moments during the story and the buildup at the end is out of this world.

I think this is one where you'll sit for a little bit afterwards thinking "wow" and thats rare enough to say without reservation Buy it and finish the campaign.

Finally, a good single-player FPS. While most AAA companies are busy milking their franchises and adding micro-transactions, the developers of Terminator: Resistance have managed to create a game that is actually worth playing. I am personally glad this game is linear and not a bloated open-world game. The graphics and character models are outdated but good graphics do NOT make a good game. The pacing is perfect, side quests are not a chore and the music is truly an ode to the Terminator franchise. Skills are simple, useful and not an over-complicated mess. Lock-picking could be better, though, as it is based on the Elder Scrolls lock-picking system. Most enemies are bullet sponges, but you can lower the difficulty levels to deal with them quicker. There is no shame in doing that. Overall, my experience playing this game has been positive. Definitely recommend to buy this game when its on sale. But if you don't mind forking out the cash, do consider buying is at full price to support the developers. Because I believe they have earned it.

I was initially a bit tentative for this one when it was released as a Terminator fan, After eventually getting it while on sale recently, absolutely no regrets, while it's certainly not perfect it is fun and cool to play, it's the Terminator Resistance FPS game we should have had long long before this released and in some ways reflects that in it's gameplay, Both single player campaign (I've not started the Annihilation Line DLC yet) and the infiltration mode(very cool playing a terminator hunting down resistance) are fun, and there's a bit of fan service in references, notes and things you find.

If you were considering this but didn't go for it on release, i'd say go for it especially if you like old school FPS games and Terminator. Probably the best Terminator game we've had this century.

Some points:

- No regenerating health, health packs / kits all the way.
- Simple Character skill/ability upgrade system
- Relatively simple weapon upgrade system via chips found on destroyed terminators
- Old School feeling interactive dialogue and character animation and some characters seem to have had more effort put into them than others in both visuals and character content.
- Sound is overall good, weapons and all, music is also adds to the feeling.
- Graphics are overall passable no complaints there, it's pretty much the Skynet riddled post apocalyptic landscape we've wanted from Kyle Reese's reality skulls et all.
- Should have had a "pet doggo" button seems like that's a glaring omission especially given one of the early fetch quests and the presence of various doggos for being good boys and valued resistance fighters.
- Needs more purple lasers.

TLDR: Feels like if the developers had a higher budget and a bit more development time this could have been an overall more polished and better game, feels like it's just shy of being top tier or just a bit short of it's potential. That being said I'd still totally recommend this for both FPS fans and Terminator fans or those looking for a sci-fi single player FPS experience.

Boring, shooting gallery FPS combat that's at least 10-15 years out of date, really shallow writing with any NPC you interact with, and the voice acting just isn't the best. You're going to need to look past a lot to enjoy this game.

IMO the best terminator games out there are the ones at the arcades, we are yet to get a solid PC game for the Terminator universe.

The only redeeming feature of this game is quality cutscenes and a decent interpretation of the source material. The game itself is nothing more than a Terminator mod for Fallout. It literally is just Fallout re-skinned. If you like the Terminator enough to play through Fallout again, then go for it, otherwise just play Fallout and watch T2 in the background.

All the other reviews are spot on. It's a fun ride. They fumbled a few things along the way, but that doesn't make the journey any less enjoyable. By the time you hit the end, you'll feel like you're in a movie with everything swelling to epic proportions. A solid 6/10

7/10 played on normal difficulty

the biggest drawback of this game is the slow pacing that is in place due to the RPG like mechanics. you lvl up from 1-30 and with each lvl you get a skill point to pump an ability stat of your choice. at around 3 hours in you finally get to fight t-800s and get your first plasma rifle. the enemy AI is mostly fine but can be dumb at times, i wish terminators would more aggressively pursue you instead of give up and return to route after a few seconds. game has large lvls with lots to explore but exploring is not that rewarding all you find is the same old loot and a lore letter here and there. could have been an easy 8/10 if the pacing was better the last quarter of the game is amazing and the finale is very fun.

This is not only a fun and tight exploration/action/survival game this is THE best Terminator game in existence without a doubt and arguably better than a majority of the Terminator films at this point!
It's not just Fallout with a Terminator coat of paint: this game feels desperate and often hauntingly lonely, even with the well acted and likable NPCs. You are NOT equipped to take on the Terminators very often here: it takes way more bullets and bombs then you reasonable have or can scrounge. So you need to think smart: blow up obstacles when they wander past, distract them and circle around, sneak past them entirely. You don't feel like rambo for most of the game, you feel like a rebel creeping around, scavenging, keeping your head down and your scant allies satisfied.
This is a Terminator game made by people who care about the franchise. The weapons are right, the enemies are right, the music is right, the events even go in the exact time order of Terminator 2 with the world ending in the 90s.
All told you will find yourself repeating some fights, but the quests are varied and have their own lines of dialogue so it doesn't come across as copy paste.
But if you even liked this franchise, this is a love letter to you, and thankfully the game runs smooth, looks quite decent, and has a hefty length with plenty to do!

Well, lots of the 'positive' reviews are right for me too, game is a MUST for Terminator fans. It's really very immersive and even though there is a lot of rinse/repeat type gameplay isn't EVERY game like that at the end of the day?

Aside from an old feeling control system, lagging animations (in date/style), and general dated 'feel', you COULD try to mark that up to this being an 80's game looking at the future.

TL:DR, really fun game for what and by no means is a 'short' game as I was afraid, just turn off the HUD, play the hardest difficulty and take your time. Game can be challenging and VERY immersive.

DEFINITELY buy on sale, if full price maybe wait for the next discount.

Pleasantly surprised with this FPS. It's not a AAA title, but the overall game play is solid, and the graphics are decent. The soundtrack and overall audio are really good, as is combat. You'll do a fair amount of exploration to gather resources for crafting and trade, but the maps are mostly linear. At times exploration is reminiscent of Fallout 4, sneaking around grey, ruined landscapes while trying to avoid various baddies. The story is passable, and there are even some basic love interests to be pursued if one so desires. Stealth is a big part of the game, so prepare to do a lot of sneaking early in the game, and at the higher difficulty levels. I enjoyed the base game enough to purchase the DLC. Recommended, although getting it on sale for $20 makes it much easier to recommend.

This is one of the games of all time.

For real though, its an average game. But it is one of the best average games youll ever play. The devs cared about bringing a true terminator experience even though the direction of the game is a little strange. Its a Jack of all trades master of none when it comes to gameplay mechanics. I immediately went to marathon the movies after playing the game.

Its a no brainer when its on sale.

Most stuffs in this game shouldn't work, dated graphics, meh character animations, generic paintings for cutscenes, yet somehow it works, somehow these things are brought together by some magical force in order to make the best 'terminator experience' there is and probably there will be ever.
Hats off to the nerds who realised that magical force that holds together this game that otherwise should fail, the 'world building' is the key, this post apocalyptic machine dominated world is the most faithful rendition of the world we got a glimpse of in Kyle Reese's nightmare in The Terminator. The weapons, the atmosphere, the outposts, the lighting conditions, every little world building aspect is on point. Then there's those notes, letters and pieces of journals you collect scattered around the maps gives you just the perfect amount of sense of horrors experienced by humans in the ruthless world of Skynet.

A great game for any fan of the franchise.
The menu music hits and you already feel nostalgic. You already get the sense you are about to experience Terminators and see what the survivors encounter through their eyes.

Exploration is rewarded in this game with resources to collect and occasionally a new type of weapon so it doesn't feel like you've wasted time by not going after the objectives straight away.
Sound effects are true to the movies and the immersion isn't broken, you really are a survivor in the world. Weapons are what you would expected to be and feels gratifying when you get a new more powerful weapon along the way.

The battle scenes (especially near the end) are fantastic and doesn't feel like just a few enemies that are a pushover, you need to fight to progress.

It is a little bit short and the replayability is more towards being a completionist, wanting to experience the different endings and if its been awhile since you last played.
Maybe wait for the price to be discounted to justify it a little.

Since the Developers are making the NEW Robocop game I decided to give Terminator Resistance a try and i am pleasantly surprised.
I am a few hours already into this game and i like the story. The graphics are decent (more like HALF LIFE 2 old school type). if you like HALF LIFE then the graphics shouldn't be an issue. The game is not like modern AAA shooters, its more basic in terms of the character animation (Again, like HALF LIFE). The great thing is the story which expands upon what we know after JUDGMENT DAY in T2. Definitely better and more interesting than anything that has been done in movies after T2. The gameplay is good and changes as more enemies (T800) start to come out, is by far the best Terminator game right now and i would recommend to any Terminator fan that wants to know more after Judgment Day and the resistance.

We all have that B movie we love more then any big Hollywood production. The budget may be small, the special effects barely special, the actors may be overdoing it - but there is something about it that just comes together RIGHT, something with heart and passion that makes it more fun then those big budget boring factory cut movies. When it's movie night, we'll rather watch that stupid movie again (Fifth Element comes to mind) the anything else. Terminator Resistance is that special B movie in game form. You may look at the pics and video and think: I don't get it, looks generic. But the proof is in the pudding and playing the game, one realises how perfectly the devs have nailed the setting, the story, the pacing, the characters, and most importantly the gameplay. This game is just pure FUN. Even more so if you are a fan of the franchise. Now I can't wait for the Robocop game.

Not really a fun game when shooting ammo repeatedly over and over and so forth at some point forces you to find more and that's hard at most importantly from what I remember the game has all the enemies are made or seem to be hard and some what annoying also don't like how your health go's down so quickly and it's not easy to shoot or literally run back to the main quest

If you're a fan of Terminator and FPS/Scavenging games, you'll enjoy this one! Definitely worth a grab on sale, and make sure to get DLC too. For a small dev team, you can really tell that they tried to put as much as possible in this game for the fans with the story line, and even threw in some crafting and survival elements which were really unexpected. All in all, a solid 7.5/10 for me. At the very least play on hard though, anything less is just too easy.

For years now it feels like the Terminator franchise has been stuck in a downward spiral with mediocre entries and untapped potential when it comes to the video game market. We have gotten some games before, but none that made any fan say "wow, that was good". Until now. Resistance is a movie we never got in the series, turned into it's own FPS game. A true prequel, (if you want to be technical), to the first two movies and completely ignores the rest of the series, which is GOOD.
Resistance isn't going to make any average gamer explode with excitement, but it may surprise and even surpass expectations for fans of the series. You play as Jacob Rivers, a resistance fighter who is aiding in the war of machines. He's a new character but he's not too bad, just your standard protagonist. The game is basically kinda like Fallout-lite, you explore a post-apocalyptic future, you have a crafting and upgrade system, it uses the exact same lockpicking mini-game, it has hacking involved and you have choices that change the story, (sorta). It's more like Fallout 4 than New Vegas or 3, though. However, it's decently made. At first it starts off slow with you taking on fodder enemies like drones, spiders, turrets and such, I wouldn't blame anyone if they stopped playing here, but you eventually get to experience what it's like to fight the actual Terminators and they are awesome. They are exactly like how they are portrayed in the movies, robotic killing machines sent to terminate the human race and they are hard to kill, especially in packs. You can't shoot them with puny machine gun fire, you have to either sneak by them or upgrade Rivers' weapons system so he can use the Terminator's guns. But encountering them at first was intense and felt like a genuine horror movie and I loved it.
It does have it's fair share of problems still, as all games do. The animations are kinda weird in cutscenes and they get even creepier when you go into seggs scenes, (yes, the game has a couple of these scenes and no, they are not fun to watch). The AI can bug out and just become braindead for some reason, this didn't happen often but when it did, I noticed immediately. The choices you have are very simplistic and don't really add much depth to the gameplay, it's just more of a reason to get a good ending then to be on a moral teeter-totter trying to figure out which is the best choice for your fellow humans and yourself. The side quests are nothing special, it's just you being an errand boy grabbing supplies or items for the survivors, I have a feeling it doesn't impact the story, but I still did it anyway to get the most out of the game. The boss fights are kinda anti-climatic, they feature cool designs but essentially you're going around in circles, picking up supplies and trying to chip at the bosses' health until they go down, it's not hard at all and it's somewhat boring, if I'm honest.
After completing the game, I found it to be kinda refreshing. It reminds me of a simpler time of gaming when developers bought licenses to famous franchises and actually put way more effort in the game then they needed to. In this one, the story follows the Terminator lore consistently and manages to be decent in terms of it's gameplay and structure, it's nothing groundbreaking but it's a bright future for this company. Also the music is incredible and easily my favorite part. A well-worth buy if you're a fan.

Great game if you're a Terminator fan - this is more of a story and visual experience. I hope this team gets a much larger budget for more "future war" type Terminator games similar to this one. Either way ... a big THANK YOU to everyone involved in making this game.

Summary: Great story, Good gameplay once it starts giving you enough to play around with. Feels like your playing far cry blood dragon with heavy fallout inspiration.

If you are a fan of the movies, this game is a must buy. You can tell that the team that made this loved the source material. The gameplay started out a little bland with a simple stealth mechanic and some simple gunplay that felt underwhelming, but once it starts throwing more at you and building on the skills and ideas that its already shown you, it really takes off. You can also see some nods to games like Farcry, metro, fallout and even some old school half life type puzzles.

All in all, really impressive game. I wish these guys or someone would put this much effort into a Starship Troopers shooter.

It plays like a game mixed with Fallout 3 and one of the better Call of Duty campaigns. Visuals are mostly serviceable, but the models for the Terminator units and environments look pretty good. The audio and OST are great. To be honest, this game doesn't have any right to be as good as it is. There's also a free DLC where you play as a Terminator that is admittedly a bit short, (2-3 hours for 100% completion for me) but great. I would also recommend the paid DLC Annihilation Line. If you're a fan of Sci-fi or the Terminator franchise you've probably already purchased this, but if yo're looking for a better than average singleplayer FPS then this may do it for you. Also, if you ever found this on sale, it is, in my opinion, a total steal.

As a lifelong Terminator fan, I wasn't very happy to learn that the developers behind the abysmal Rambo game had made a Terminator game. The advertising was so minimal that I didn't hear about it until it was out. Probably because they spent every cent of the budget making the best damn thing to happen to the Terminator franchise since T2 back in 1991.

This game is 100% Terminator 3, it acts as both a sequel finishing the trilogy but thanks to time travel, also a prequel to T1. I played the game on the hardest difficulty and had a blast, doing every side mission I could do and trying to go for the best ending, taking me a total of 18.5 hours which is damn good for a story driven single player game.

Yeah, somehow Teyon went from the super short, onrails shooter Rambo to this, which involved dialogue choices that actually matter, semi-open world exploration (think stalker style freeroam minizones) and RPG-lite survival mechanics, all wrapped up in the post Judgement day 2029 war against the machines we only saw glimpses at in T1 and T2.

I do not recommend this game to non-terminator fans, but if you're not a terminator fan you have more things to worry about, like seeking mental help. There are moments in the game I was amazed they pulled off, its fan service in the best way.

The games design and graphics aren't something groundbreaking or special. It does look dated, but the art style is EXACTLY how I imagined the future war would look. The gameplay doesn't do anything new but seriously now, how many modern games do new things? Spoiler: Almost never.

Special shoutout for the soundtrack. Brad Fiedel would be proud, everything after T2 was generic hollywood crap, but resistance takes heavy influence from the old tracks from both T1 and T2 and uses them perfectly for the scenes and levels. The final battle and credits tracks are some of the best versions of the main theme I have ever heard. Also the track that plays first time you encounter a T-800. Remember when the T-800s were nightmare fuel? Now they are again, and your ballistics guns aint gonna do shit.

For me this game is a 10/10. It has its flaws and problems but I genuinely couldnt give a fuck, I instantly purchased the expansion and will be playing that next.

Two scores: As a game: 7/10 (good.) As a Terminator game: 8/10 (Very good).

If you're not a Terminator fan, what you're wading into is a fairy generic first person shooter, with a clumsy picklocking and hacking mini games. It's hub based, where you set out into a dead world, to fight machines and do quests. It's nothing to write home about, but it works, it's decent-good, and that's all you're getting.

If you're a Terminator 1 and 2 fan (movies), and you despise or dislike the later reboots/sequels, then this is a love letter to the Terminator series. In fact, I'd say this game is basically what Terminator 3 should have been.

First, let me backtrack; Gameplay is generic, you're not going to get anything special here. It's a simple shooter, with no reinvention of the wheel. You'll get guns, you'll shoot Terminators. That's basically it. You'll level up and invest in hacking (a timed based dodge the firewall game) or lockpicking (turn and wiggle game), or damage up or damage down skills, but that's more or less it.

You get a hub HQ, which you'll be based in, and then you'll explore similar maps multiple times over the story. Again, nothing special.

So why does it shine? Well, atmosphere, lore and storyline. In all three, it absolutely nails it, think Alien Isolation's faithfulness, except for Terminator.

The game takes place after the T1-2 movies, this is the 'future war', which you've seen clips of in the movies, where humanoid terminators walk the land shooting humans for sport, where huge VTOL Hunter Killer aircrafts scour the skies, and those large twin linked gunner HK Tanks? They're there too!

Everything is lovingly recreated as the movies presented them. The war is in darkness, the skies are roiling with nuclear fallout, the land is ruined, the wrecks of human civilisation is all you're going through, the Terminators are plodding along exterminating everyone, and you're just a squishy person, struggling to get by.

Your early enemies are simple Spider scouts, easy things to take down, they're small spiders that basically act as forward recon for nastier Terminator models; You'll soon face Terminators (yes, the T-800's for example) and initially anyway, they're impossible to take down, you won't be fighting them head on until a good few missions in when you can turn their own weapons against them.

The atmosphere is brilliant, because it highlights the danger of Terminators - they can basically whittle down your health quite quickly, as they should do, and early through to the mid-late game, they can take an age to take down. You must use good movement, ambush, explosives and cover to get by generally.

Lore-wise, the game is faithful to the movies, and it plasters the environment full of call backs, references and easter eggs.

Story-wise it is 100% faithful to the first two movies, and goes to painstaking lengths to ensure that its own story works within the framework of the two movies. That means they take great care not to tread on established lore. No matter what you do in the game, you will not damage the timeline present through the movies.

It also means, and I'm trying to keep this spoiler-free, but the story ties in perfectly with the movies themselves, again, without even damaging any of it. There are two major endings to the game, and various character endings, which are based on your choices and relationships through the game.

Again, I must stress, all the mechanics, the relationships, the choices, the lockpicking etc etc, it's all very simple, there's even some very awkward looking sex scenes if you're savvy with the ladies (MC is Jacob Rivers, Male, you don't get a choice in this), it is basically a rough game, but it's a rough game that has been written and created by fans who want an authentic story and experience, who treat the whole thing with care.

That's why it's a great Terminator game. That's why it's basically the Terminator 3 that should have landed on film. Hence, my two scores; If you like Terminator 1-2, then get this, put up with the okay gameplay and enjoy the T3 experience. Otherwise, only get this if you're a diehard shooter fan.

This game is the most janky game that I still like. Gunplay is pretty garbage, weapons sound like someone is jiggling their keys in their pocket, enemy AI is max level goober and everything gameplay wise is just painfully average. HOWEVER, as a Terminator game it's a damn masterpiece, I liked the story, graphics really ain't that bad and voice acting is solid enough. It feels like it should be a part of the movie canon. Just got 100% of the achievements and I think I will go watch T1 and T2 back to back and savour the rare moment of getting something from Terminator franchise that isn't terrible.

This recommendation comes with several asterisks:

*You MUST be a big Terminator fan aka over 30.
*This is an unpolished, borderline beta build of a shooter with Fallout-style RPG elements
*I don't want to thumbs-down a title where it appears that the devs did the best they could with the time and money given

It's bittersweet to play Terminator: Resistance because yes, this is the best the franchise has gotten ever since the second movie - it does it's best to put you in the shoes of a resistance soldier in future L.A. - but the budgetary/time constraints still bleed in as a game that bit off more than the devs could chew. The character models are Oblivion levels of robotic and soulless (which un-ironically works out for the finely-detailed terminator enemies), and environment and weapon sound effects leave something to be desired.
The game's shooter-RPG direction really shoots it in the foot, especially in the first half of the game: leveling up and upgrading is painfully slow and boring when all you want to do is run around shooting and blowing up evil robots - which you do, but not until too much time has passed. If a group of modders were to do away with the inventory and leveling system and make this a more action focused game, it'd be one of my favorites. As a modern Terminator game, it's ALMOST there, but not quite.

Get this if you are a Terminator fan. They devs really captured the essence, especially the atmosphere, plus it has a good story to go with it. Its not a AAA title by any means, but I can't stop playing it. Its the best thing to happen to the Terminator saga since T2.

I have a morning ritual that I need to share. I call it "the terminator". First I crouch down in the shower in the classic "naked terminator traveling through time" pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and I start to hum the terminator theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless, cyborg badass. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It ruins the fantasy.

The game is really dope.
it starts a bit slow ngl.
but after like maybe 1 hour it picks up and is just a blast.
the only bad things that this game has are the facial animation the air work and the cut scenes with music on the background (they are louder than the person narrating stuff)

the looting and gun play reminded me hell of a lot to fallout 4.

Best description I can give this game is that it feels like a remaster of a 360/PS3 game that never existed, but by no means do I want to imply that I dislike this title or anything of the sort. It's an enjoyable game, especially going in with little to no expectations. You can tell this game didn't have the budget of a major AAA studio, but in that you see the passion and clever design decisions. Like "Oh this game takes place in the future where everything is bleak, and grey, and everything is destroyed. MAKE EVERYTHING IN THE DISTANCE GREY AND FOGGY." In doing so they've made the game feel incredibly immersive and feel like you're in that world. Even the graphics ain't half bad. I mean it's no Horizon or Injustice 2 but for the world they're trying to imitate, it does the job well enough. Oh and the sound design, fan-flippin'-tastic. You got some crafting, some scavenging, a simple skill tree, it's enough to give the illusion of it being "open", but is in fact linear to a degree. But I love it. As a Terminator fan, I think you'll love it too. Probably the best 7/10 game you'll ever play, but what really sells it are all the little choices that help drive the fact that the devs really had a passion for the brand. Arguably more so than the studios that hold the brand as a whole. Is it perfect? No. But frankly it's amazing that it's as good as it is considering what we've gotten in the past. I truly hope the developer sticks around and continues to deliver these pleasant licensed surprises. Looking forward to that Robocop game guys!

Plain garbage.

If you're looking for open-world or choices matter, look elsewhere. This is about as open world as FF13. You get to make about 6 choices in the whole game. And be prepared to be surprised when Skynet develops terminators that look human. Don't act like you knew that 40 years ago. Damn, the future from T1 is only 7 years away! Miserable enemy AI, which is truly unforgivable in a game that's predicated on a super-intelligent AI hunting you. But... you aren't being hunted at all. The robots seem content to just... stand there, patrolling. No where can you not just escape them easily. Nowhere is that sense of an unrelenting stalker coming to kill you from the films. At no point did I not feel like I outmatched Skynet's forces. Add to that about 2/3 of the game is walking around picking up crap that you end up not needing. And about 2/3 of the game's mechanics (the good crafting, weapon mods, good skills) don't open up til near the end of the game.

This game should have started in Ch. 4 when you meet Baron and gone from there.

I'm a huge fan of the Terminator Franchise since being a wee child in the 90's, Graphics were good, story was awesome, Character was okay, it blended into Terminator 1 and 2 really well, Nostalgic music, I wish it was a little less linear, but overall a solid 6.5/10 for me

Terminator: Resistance is the true sequel to T1 and T2. No joke.

With that said, no game is perfect and Resistance is far from it. The experience is clunky with some dodgy animations and models, so my first impressions weren't exactly great. Shortly after, though, it started to win me over with the amazing presentation of the utterly destroyed world we saw glimpses of in the first two films; including genuinly scary encounters with T-800's.

The attention to detail is insane and really speaks to the passion that went into everything. The more I played, it grew on me and I embraced it more and more, with the excellent soundtrack elevating it even further. By the end of the game I felt we have come full circle and that it was made specifically for you and me as fans of the franchise, who've been hoping for a Future War depiction that's more true to the source material. It's the best piece of Terminator material since T2 and it deserves a lot better than it got.

This game is like Terminator fan service done right

This is probably the best Terminator game to come out since the early 2000s, and even this game is leagues ahead of those games in terms of graphical improvements and game-play. This is the future war that I always wanted a movie about. Time and time again, I'm hoping for a movie set just in the future war, but to no avail, I will continue to long for it. But this game, Terminator Resistance, at least to me, is like the Future war movie that I always wanted. And I can't get enough of this game. I love the way everything looks; I love looking at the resistance soldiers, the terminators, and all of their various iterations. This game fits right in with the first 2 Terminator movies. And I also love the semi-open world nature of the game, finding loot, finding ammo, weapons, materials, everything, however the semi-open world is definitely not overbearing, its just the right size. I describe it as semi-open world because its still a bit linear. My favorite part about the game is the sound design. I love how movie accurate most of the weapon sounds are. And of course, the music in this game is phenomenal, the game menu terminator theme rendition is by far one of the best. Simply put, if you're a terminator fan, who is especially a fan of the first 2 or 3 terminator movies, this game will probably make you feel such a powerful sense of nostalgia, that's what it did for me and that's probably why I love it so much.

in the first 1-2 hour i was like: this game ain't worth the money, you can barely do anything, there are barely any interesting enemies, i felt like that the story was awkard as well and i was about to quit it.
but then i checked out a walkthrough on youtube, and fast forwarded to a couple of chapters, then i saw how long the game really is, and that there are also other enemies + a decent storyline. so i continued to play.
now i finished the game and now i can say it was worth it, however the "stranger" was pretty obvious.
in the skill system i also missed weapon skill at the beginning, so i couldnt use the "cool" guns. maybe this was my fault, however it could have also been more highlighted that that is a must, to proceed effectively
Edit: i bought it on discount, maybe 20 or 25 euros.
i dunno whether i'd pay a full price (40euro), maybe only if i'd be a hardcore fan.

The storyline is the movie we should have had. Absolutely love this game. The weapon chip-upgrade system is nicely done, quite refreshing as they can be re-used as well. So far only played normal mode but I suspect higher difficulty can be a b!tch at time. Skill points can determine which play style you want to take. Terminator: Resistance is decent. It does what it advertises: Puts you in the Terminator 2 timeline.

I believe Terminator: Resistance is a good lesson in practical game design; the team accomplished their goals, made a fun and solid game, and that was it. Good job!

The game play is a series of large linear areas. Kind of a refreshing break from all the "open world shooters" out there, but it also means the game is reasonably short (about 15h of gameplay).

The level design is "very Fallout 3." In fact, I wish the team would have had the resources to make this game more like Fallout 3; that would've been amazing (If you're into Fallout, that is).

Overall, Terminator: Resistance is worth a playthrough. It's deep enough to keep you interested for a weekend for sure.

Things I don't like:
The game's main focus is on how tough the machines are. You'll need to get REAL good at shooting their weak points and sneaking around levels to avoid being detected. The first enemies you encounter can easily kill you in under 5 seconds, and that theme is repeated throughout this game. Some areas are ridiculously hard and frustrating. If it were about 1/2 as difficult, it'd have been much more enjoyable to me.

There doesn't seem to be any sort of New Game+ mode. I understand why (it's a linear game), but it would've been kinda fun to do that.

Best Terminator game to be. I been waiting a LONG TIME for a game like this. I really hope they release more add ons to it. Infiltrator mode is fun but only thing is it's randomized so it's diff every time. Sometimes you get a good start sometimes you get a bad one. The campaign is good too as is the Annihilation line one that fills the gaps for Kyle Reese's flashbacks (which you play out the same scene). I believe small dev teams are the future and "judgement day" for big developers is inevitable and the small devs will win against this "judgement day.

If you love the Terminator movies - this is absolutely worth playing. Despite not being made by a big money backed company, this is, you can tell - a game where the developers loved what they were making. I would definitely recommend this one, though replay will probably be minimal. Once you've finished the campaigns and tried playing as a Terminator, it's pretty much done. Unless you're the "I need every achievement" type.

It hurts to not recommend this. You can tell a lot of love and passion went into making this game. The folks who made this game love the Terminator and it shows. Unfortunately, its not a very fun game. I saw Gmanlives review of it and bought it off of his recommendation. After the first 3 hours, the charm wore off. The shooting is meh, very floaty with all the guns kinda feeling the same. Stealth is annoying and its one way to pad out the experience. I played it on hard and towards the end, you are a good and nothing can take you down but in the first hours, you go down in 3 shots and can be frustrating. I get it, you're not a bad ass and it shows how dangerous the Skynet really is. If you had to play this game simply because you are a fan of the Terminator series, set it on easy, don't bother collecting trash and run through it.

Enjoy it for what it is and that is fan service. Great atmosphere, good enough story and its a cool experience of being in the Terminator Post-apocalyptic world. Have low expectations for the shooting and enjoy the scenery.

I just want to preface at the time of this review I have not seen the terminator movies but I am aware of them (yes yes I'll get around to it). The only reason why i'm mentioning that is so you can understand that I am not clouded by nostalgia and i'm looking at this game as objective as possible. Given that I'll say that this game is great, the game looks gorgeous, gunplay feels nice, its great learning about the terminator lore and being part of the future war that as far as im aware is briefly mentioned in the movies, the characters are well written and is just overall a solid game. My only criticism being the stealth could use some work, you tend to be spotted super easily.

would recommend to both Terminator and non-terminator fans, this game stands on its own.

If you are a fan of the movie franchise, particularly T1 and T2, then this is for you. Not the most dynamic game-play or overwhelming dialogues, but good enough for me. It is likely people under 30 will not get the game. For me, the game manages to immerse you in the terror you sense in the movies (again, mainly T1 and T2), especially early on in the game when you have little resources and weaponry and you are trying to avoid detection.

Skootmeister
Skootmeister

This game isn't all that special. It's got good gameplay, some replayability to it, and fair voice acting. But what makes this game really shine is the care the developers put into the lore and world. They paid special attention to the first two movies as their source material and it shows with dialogue and the portrayal of both Skynet and Resistance forces. Weapons, NPCs, world, characters, enemies, music. It's the care to details like this that is sadly lacking in many major IP games these days. And having learned that the developers made a not so great Rambo game, this game is proof that they took a step in the right direction. Looking forward to what they do next.

Every inch a mid-range Xbox 360 title that would have ended up on the middle to lower shelves at Gamestop and would have had its 7.5 review pushed to some of the back pages of Game Informer circa 2008.

You have to be a little forgiving of its rough edges, and go in knowing that you're going to be getting a pretty short campaign with not a whole lot of depth to it. But it's got some great atmosphere and a satisfying rpg-lite feedback loop. The gameplay is functional enough to be enjoyable (even though the crouching, stealth and sprint mechanics are kinda borked). You do end up woefully overpowered by the end, and it is sad to see that the game basically mandates you into using basically two types of plasma rifles in the end (the shotgun in particular was sad to see pushed to the side after like one mission).

The game also pretends like your decisions will impact the course of events, but with a game that is clearly trying its best to walk like a AAA title while being made on an indie budget it's a safe bet that your decisions will probably have very little impact because there's no budget to really create alternative versions of missions or substantively branching paths. I got this game's equivalent of the "bad" ending and let's just say they get through my "bad" decisions quite quickly (to the point where one major plot point is just straight up unresolved in the game if you make the "bad" decision).

I would say this game earns a recommendation if you are a Terminator super fan, or the type of person who bought those Xbox 360 games on the lower shelves of Gamestop (like myself).

TL;DR: Forty dollars seems like a reasonable price for this game. its mid tier, with average game play which may have been a little after its time, but a fantastic environment done by people who cared about getting it right.
Teyon's first true FPS (going off of their product page on steam in 2022), Terminator: Resistance is a fairly straight forward fps with stealth and rpg elements and with open levels. The game is fantastic for a first attempt at an off rails fps shooter, although it is more similar to games from around 2010 than 2020 when compared to the work of major studios. Another reviewer compared it to a mid-range xbox game, and that is an apt description. You get a fairly straight forward spread of weapons in three tiers, one ballistic and two plasma. The levels have additional missions you can stumble across as you explore, and there are personal interactions which have a minimal effect on the ending for the obvious reasons related to the games budget. The AI is admittedly somewhat simplistic, although if you want to explain it in universe there are valid reasons for it, and i never had them do anything that was as stupid as some things I've seen in triple A titles.
The REAL reason to get this game is it absolutely belongs among the titles like Alien: Isolation which succeed in capturing the atmosphere of the movie universe the game takes place in. It would have been exceedingly simple for modern innovations such as wireless networking or other recent technological innovations to sneak in due to apathy or carelessness, but Teyon truly seems to care about delivering a good experience in a franchise which seems content to repeatedly produce crap and almost seems to hate its fans.
This game has few to no real failings, and if you are willing to accept the experience for what it is, a well done game financed by people who don't have millions to throw at it without knowing for sure if it will be well received, made by people who actually seem to care about the property entrusted to them, then you will not be disappointed. Although i was disinterested in their Rambo game, Terminator: Resistance has ensured that I will be following Teyon's future works with hopeful interest. If they manage to do as well with their upcoming games, they will certainly make a sale with me.

Although we can argue about the AI, the hardest difficulty is the best choice to select.

Then, story is solid and so much rewarding, even though I wished the ending could have been more open choice, IT IS STILL GREAT.

Graphics: no issues, no complains, few spots here and there about lighting, but nothing game breaking.

DLC had a map in which we can see FPS drops, but I think it got fixed and optimized. They couldn't merge the DLC story within the main game campaign. But it's not quite big issue.

In the end, very satisfying game when your up to fight Terminators.

What I liked:
So far the best Terminator game ever made. Most of the the previous games where meh to god awful. The game does a excellent job of putting you in the shoes of a member of the resistance, scrounging around, trying to crape together a means to fight back agent the machines. The game does feel like a good continuation of the first 2 terminator movies. from the perspective of the future war, we only got to briefly see in the first movie. Obviously the dev team loves the first 2 movies and it shows. By the end of the game, it feels like walked threw the hell of the future war. I did also like that they added in Robert Patrick's character. It's only his image. You run across him in a skynet controlled hospital. Where he was experimented on to death. All you know is he was a unnamed resistance member. Also adding to the reason why infiltrator models were so effective. They where using the faces of actual resistance members. Also they did add John Conner, the way he appears in the extended cut of the first movie, with the scars on his face.

There is also a infiltrator mode, witch allows you to play as a infiltrator model T800. It did leave me wanting more. despite loving this mode, its only one mission that can be beaten in 45 minutes. would love to of seen a full story mode based on this.

What I hated:
- the graphics, they really need to be polished up. I wouldn't say the game us ugly. its just some of the decals just look awful. mainly the hair of characters. I'm normally I'm not one of those people who what every game to look picture realistic.
its just half of the decals look fine, the other half look god awful.
-melee attacks feel sluggish and off. granted you aren't using it that much. its just wonky.
-lock picking is a copy paste from skyrim
-hacking is literally frogger.
- Its easy to predict the terminators, concertinaing they walk a set path, plus you have a head set that allows you to see them threw walls.
- would of been better is the game play was more set up like a rainbow 6 game or gears of war, with a cover system.
-no multiplayer was a shame. would of been cool if there was a left4dead style resistance vs machines mode or a some other multiplayer mode.
-infiltrator mode way too short. During Infiltrator mode you play as Arnold Schwarzenegger's character. But couldn't license out his likeness. In the promo images for the game. The T800 with the half torn off face is supposed to be Arnold.

Final thoughts:
Despite some of the graphics issues and changes to gameplay I would like to of seen. This is still one hell of a good game.

Will elaborate if I have time, but for now all I can say, is that this is the first game in the history of games, which is amazing despite it being heavily based off a movie.

With heavily, I mean some Star Wars games were great, but did not follow the movies which is why they worked. But any game trying to follow a movie failed, basically the same way movies based off games do, yea I'm talking about Doom.

Nevertheless, I cannot think of a game which was so well put together as this one despite its origins.

This game is one of a kind.

Absolutely fun for the story and atmosphere of being IN the Machine War.
Gameplay is typical of most any FPS, nothing to write home about.
Where the fun comes is from experiencing the Machine War always teased from flashbacks in the movies.
Being there and witnessing the horrors of the machines and the struggle of humanity to survive.
As a game, it has small issues here and there, and the difficulty could be said to be rather stiff
But then again you are facing purpose built killing machines so.

Disgusting Weeaboo Trash
Disgusting Wee…

Have to say, this is a very good game overall. Now to start with the good points:
. The writing (which I won't spoil) is excellent and the best part by far and large, it fits the universe so well. Even though you technically know what's going to happen at the end (if you've watched Terminator and Terminator 2 anyway, which you should) that really doesn't matter, I was glued to my seat and desperate to see the ending.
. On that note, the game does do a good job at getting you invested with the characters, you care about what's going to happen to these people.
. The animations and voice acting is all decent across the board. Nothing award-winning, but it does the job it's supposed to and it keeps you immersed in what's going on, so that's all you need really.
. Has a gameplay loop similar to Fallout 4, however it's far less repetitive and never wastes your time; if you're scavenging for stuff it's because you want/need to, not because you're being forced to do so just to progress.
. Unlike Fallout 4, the game is very, very bug free, I didn't have a single crash or unexpected fault whilst playing this.

Now for the not so good:
. The animations and environments are a bit janky; not in the way that you'll fall through the floor or anything horrific like that, more in the way that you'll try to run for cover whilst a turret/T-800 isn't watching you, only to get caught on the environment, get spotted, then get killed. The fact there are small inclines in several places at the game you can't jump onto the top of is rather annoying as well.
. The price is a bit steep honestly, I got it on sale so it was good value for money in my case, but I deliberately waited because of the usual price-tag.

Overall, whilst it's not a perfect game it IS an enjoyable one that never wastes your time and makes the best use of the time it does have, which is all that matters honestly.

Great game for any Terminator fan. The gameplay and mechanics are basic, not in a bad way though, everything works fine and the shooting is satisfying. However, were these devs hit a home-run is with the atmosphere and staying faithful to the source material. You know the battle scenes from Terminator 1&2? They captured the feel of those scenes perfectly! You can tell this game was made by fans of the T1 and T2. Like I said, if you're a fan of those movies you love this game.

A love letter to us living in the 21st Century from the past... 1984.

To anyone who was a kid in 1984 and was blown away by the original Terminator in 1984 this game is a must buy during the Steam Summer Sale.

Don't forget to pick up the DLC which will bring a tear to your eye at its conclusion if you were a kid in the 80s.

Play this game now and bask in the nostalgia with an excellent soundtrack and enjoy the decline and eventual end of western civilization as we die by the hands of Skynet know to us by many other names.

I started out a bit skeptic as I consider myself a big terminator fan, but to be honest it was a pretty good game with tons of stealth elements and while not open world but nice large maps with multiple paths and things to investigate which reward you if you are curious by default. While I usually do not like minigames (like hacking and lockpicking) it was also quite enjoyable. The fact that there were multiple endings based on your actions, there were plenty of nice weapons and upgrades, plus a simple yet effective skill and romance system is an added bonus. The two DLCs were also fun.

Look, it ain't *terrible*. It's astoundingly mediocre. But the asking price is just obscene. We're 3 years past release on a game that feels like it's 10 years old, and it retails for near £50 inc DLC? This is a £15 game at best now.

The gunplay is horrifically arcadey. The story is obnoxiously simplified. The gameplay is about as deep as a 3-month old Texan puddle. The graphics are... barely passable. It has all the attention to detail of a toddler's first finger-painting. But honestly, I might not be feeling quite so bad about all that had the price of admission not been so ridiculous. You can still get some enjoyment out of this; it's not a *totally* lost cause. But the asking price just smacks of delusions of grandeur based on the source material alone.

The high average reviews had me thinking it might be worth it. That the chance to play out the movies and face off against the T-800 would overcome the development shortfalls. That there's a nugget of gold in here to drown out the buyer's remorse.

There is not. ♭

I don't suggest this game. It's super low quality for something released 2019. Graphics are decent, but everything else about this game feels like one of those games you play an arcade. The acting, controls, character movements, everything feels like a 2010 game if that.

If you're a fan of the franchise, more so Terminator and Terminator 2, then this would be a great game for you. I spent about 30 hrs getting all of the achievements. Time well spent. Had a few wicked nightmares and dreams about Skynet because of all of this. Love it!

This is a yes, but...

Graphics mostly look great. NPCs have a pretty solid case of dead eyes that stare through you that could have made them pretty convincing terminators. I don't think any of them actually blinked. Ever.

The upgrade system of matching the circuit was interesting. Gun play lacked any serious omph and had really muted sounds outside of explosions.

The AI is not the best and can snipe at you with automatic riffles (but they are robots after all.)

Music was pretty spot on for a terminator game.

Meh story with time travel paradoxes that more or less is the series signature at this point. But let's be honest. You're not playing this for it's story.

Infiltrator mode held promise, but could have been so much more where you play the other side of the coin.
Overall, get it, but on sale.

Not the quality I was expecting. Seems kinda low budget for a 40 dollar game. I love the T1 and 2 movies and this game doesn't live up to them. Hopefully there will be a better higher quality game that is similar in the future.

Base game review; Imagine a Terminator movie being allowed to go straight to DVD. About all the game has going for it is that the atmosphere / sfx are intact and it has ol' red eye. The rest is pre-2010 generic. Buy on sale, and don't go in with expectations.

The QM was so sus, a missed opportunity.

I heard of the game being announced, and I was one of those who felt beyond caring. I too, was somewhat hesitant because I didn't hear marvels about it's cookie cutter gameplay. But after hearing nothing but praise from actual fellow fans, I decided to bite the bullet.

If you like Terminator, buy it. If you are also weary, just wait for a sale. But please, do yourself a favor. If I can convince a single other fan to grab it, I'm happy.

This is the best content the franchise had since 1991.
You are paying more than worth to reward a game made with love.

You can just look at the screen and feel the amount of dedication and passion of the team, who clearly revere the films and wanted to do it justice. The atmosphere, soundtrack and overall "feel", everything is just pitch perfect. The game also expands respectfully the original timeline, without any of it being conflicting or nonsensical.

In the same way, if you don't like Terminator 1 and 2, you won't find much value here- as I said, the gameplay is "ok" and really just works. It can be enjoyable but you are here to enjoy a beautiful love letter.
However if that aspect doesnt appeal to you, that would mean you do not like Terminator 1 and 2, if so you have better things to worry about.

Well... What can i say, I loved every minute of the story and the DLC... i just could not get hurt, feel pity or remorse for staying on the game so long in to the early hours of the morning and i absolutely will not stop ever... untill this game was completed.

But that's where it ended..... after it was completed i uninstalled it... and now its just another game sat in my Library....

It needs a Multiplayer option, Desperately... dedicated servers and an anti cheat so no hacking.

Resistance vs Terminators... that's would be such a Good PVP/PVE/ Coop story mode but alas nope single player only. what i wouldn't give for FPS Games to start incorporating a multiplayer into their story modes... Fighting as a team to bring sky-net down would be Awesome.... i am not holding my breath for it though... i Like the game and i would recommend it for the story especially if you are a Terminator Fan... but we need more!

Is this the best Single-Player Shooter you will ever play? No, probably not.
Is this the best thing to come out of the Terminator Franchise since Terminator 2: Judgement Day? Yes.

Gameplay wise it could be better; the guns felt floaty to me but they had solid punch; and the sound of the plasma rifles is straight out of the movies. You feel like you are there, in the future, fighting as part of a war against Skynet and it's Terminators.

It does give a solid challenge on harder difficulties with limited supplies of ammo. Even on normal; bad management of ammo means you can run completely dry. This happened to me on one mission, meaning I had to rely on knives and hacking turrets and that was an interesting challenge. Upgrades to your weaponry are well timed.

The story is a solid one and weaves into the Terminator 2 Opening Scene (i.e. the Future War) well.

This was a game made by fans of the franchise; and it shows. There is love in this game. It's not perfect by any stretch; but accept it's faults and you'll find a fun and engaging game to fill a day.
Then of course the DLC adds that bit extra.

The game starts, you hear that DU-DUM-DUM DU-DUM and you know it's going to be good.

If you are the kind of person who instantly gets a boner when hearing the Terminator theme, this game is for you. Also, maybe you should talk to someone about that, just saying.

Wanted to like this bc Terminator is sick but honestly they could not have made a more basic shooter if they tried.

Story really isn't engaging either. I know alot of people seem to like it so good for them but nothing about it gripped me. It also doesn't help that facial animations basically don't exist. Everyone conveys their problems/story with a stone cold 1000-yard stare which doesn't help the immersion, for lack of a better term. Only mildly interesting character was Jennifer but she barely did anything to earn it tbh.

Gameplay-wise, good lord this is the most stiff and linear I've seen a game be since... I'm not even sure honestly. Sure there's side objectives in little off-shoots of the main road but that doesn't really excuse the sense of restriction from giant bits of rubble and crumbling ruins that dominate the screen. Weapons feel "floaty" and you also, most of the time, feel like you're shooting nerf darts, although I'll say that fragments of metal shredding off from impact upon enemies kind of aids that issue.

The main thing you get to look forward to working towards are chips (upgrades) and better crafting items. But thats pretty much it. There is a skill tree, but nothing you haven't seen in every other skill tree ever.

I don't know, I think $40 is a bit much for the cookie-cutter experience you'd be paying for. Although aye, if alot of people are still getting enjoyment out of it, that's great, just not for me.

6/10 (PC) - Even though this title was professionally developed for retail release, it really felt like a fan-made project for better or worse. On one hand, you can see the care that went into this title to really pay homage to this legendary franchise. There is a ton of fan service contained within this title. Any fan of the first 2 films would clearly recognize the locales, the weapons, the music, and the dialogue. There were a bunch of times where this game put a smile on my face because I heard a throwaway line from the movies being said by a random NPC I happened to be walking close to. Clearly the developers were big fans of the franchise and they really tried to make a game that fans of the franchise would enjoy. With Terminator fans, it's pretty clear that ever since the 2nd film, everyone has wanted to see a full-scale film revolving around the future war that was portrayed in those movies. For whatever reason, that has never come to fruition. At least not in the style that those 2 movies had shown it. This game is exactly what we wanted on that front. The graphics, for the most part, are respectable and do a good job at portraying the future war. The highlight are the T-800 enemies which look perfect and are totally faithful to the movies. The music is also a highlight and does a good job remixing classic themes while throwing in some new tracks that fit right in. The story is actually surprisingly good and does a good job at tying into the events of the first 2 films of the franchise.

Now, on the downside, this feels like a fan-made game in terms of that quality of everything overall. In a lot of ways it feels really cheaply made. The attention to details when it comes to paying homage to the films is there, but the gameplay itself is really basic and boring. This is a very basic pseudo open-world game that will drop the player in level with 1 main objective and then add some boring side missions you can do along the way. During these missions you will sneak around, shoot things, and loot houses and bodies. You use what you loot to craft and upgrade and you upgrade your physical stats. Rinse and repeat. This was a tired concept 5 years ago and just feels more tired now. Combat can be fun here and there, like the boss fights with the Infiltrator and HKs. But you're essentially doing the same things over and over. The voice-acting by the characters you interact with isn't great. Pair that with some cheap facial animations and you can really see that game's low budget showing.

This is truly a fan game, through and through. This is great when it comes to providing the details necessary to please fans of the films, but it is missing some of the quality that you might expect from bigger-budget titles. While it was great to see a game that was so faithful to the movies that I love, I wish a little more time was spent on making the game more original and fun to play.

Just a few hours in & love the atmosphere of Terminator canon. Movement & cam felt loose even after tweaking and some supposedly minor enemies shocked me to death no matter how many times I hit them (unforgiving at the beginning is just plain player-unfriendly even if an NPC is annoying you to be 'better'). Never a fan of checkpoint saves in this type of game but wth am I supposed to say? Good fun, familiar and solid world-building. Worth the cost of the game for sure; I'll be playing plentry more.
