for me the book of unwritten tales series are the cutest and most beautiful and most interesting adventure games. You can see the amount of love and work that has flown in to these. Absolutely worth every penny! It is long enough and full of great dialogs, i really loved all the conversations. Sometimes the adventures can drag and feel tiresome but this was one was just epic. Please support the developers.

If you played 'The Book of Unwritten Tales (1)" you will probably enjoy this sequel. It brings back all the main characters from the first game and introduces a few new ones.

The textures and rigging are a little better than the first and the mechanics and walk paths are a little smoother but I still found that some of the walk paths (especially when you are switching between characters) are a little weird. You don't have to do any pixel hunting because you can highlight all items that you can interact with so it's hard to miss something. Some of the puzzles are not very logical to solve but most of them are reasonable.

I didn't care for the story in this game as much as the first. Parts of it seemed out of character, others were underdeveloped, and in many cases there are parts of the story which never get resolved... yes, unresolved story plots bother me. The game also suffers from pacing issues. I like all the characters so I've got nothing against Wilbur but it does feel especially at the beginning of the game that your are stuck in that part of the story for a very long time, even if you are doing everything in the right order. The humor is still there but I didn't find it quite as humorous as the first game.

I personally love achievements! So I disliked the difficulty attached to obtaining the "Drunken Master" achievement. You can't really save right before you attempt it and on your first playthrough you have no idea it's coming. By the time you've played through that far you also probably don't feel like replaying to that point to attempt getting it again. I feel like the game doesn't have a lot of replay value. I might attempt it again at somepoint to try and get that achievement (along with Math Magician which I missed my first time around but It feels almost like it would be a chore to do again. I enjoyed it enough to play it once but, a second time anytime in the near future seems a bit too much.

If you liked the first game and you like Point & Click Adventure games you'll probably enjoy this game. But if you are a fairly impatient person and don't enjoy solving puzzles this game is not for you as it will require a lot of both.

I'm rabid for a continuation of this series. One of the best series that I've played, and would highly recommend to anyone who's liked Monkey Island and/or Deponia.

So you know the trope about Adventure games that for no reason the protagonist will pick up everything that isn't nailed down, and if it is nailed down, he'll find a hammer, pocket the nails, and then walk off with it?

Yes, this is silly.

BoUT 2 isn't like that. And as silly as the convention is, not following the form is worse.

Why? Because now you need to remember where you saw a thing, remember what it was, think how it might be useful, and traipse back across 5 screens to see if you've finally found the puzzle that needs the top hat so that you can pick it up. If you're wrong, you've just spent a lot of time backtracking for no reason. And if you're right, you still have to cross 10 (5 x 2) screens and hope that the only thing you needed was that top hat and that you didn't miss anything else. This is NOT fun. This is boring.

Added to that, sometimes items are invisible until you need them. So you go around your current area, noting where everything is and picking up what you can, only to find that now you need an item you have seen NOWHERE in the area, but suddenly the fireworks are appearing in piles of junk you already looked at for no reason. This is just as unbelievable as picking up everything, but has the added benefit of being infinitely irritating.

So as an adventure gamer who remembers when King's Quest and Monkey Island where the cream of the crop, this game is beautiful and occasionally funny, but it's also so dull it took me 4 years to finish this game.

Oh, and it ends on a cliffhanger that may never be resolved since there are no plans for BoUT 3 at this point in time.

AND the game is published by THQ Nordic, which is garnering a reputation through its daughter company Deep Silver for selling out its Kickstarter backers for exclusive bucks (see Shinmue and the non-kickstarted Metro Exodus), so I don't see a new Kickstarter to get BoUT 3 off the ground, were they to start one, to be a smart investment.

Truly a noteworthy successor to the old point-and-click adventure games without being hair-pulling frustration to the point of encouraging kids to use your pay-per-minute hint service like the old games did.

Loved this game. All three games in the series are among my favorite adventure games.
I liked the ending giving a hint that there is a next installment.
The only thing I would change about this game is the inventory system.
It was annoying throughout the game. Why change it from what it was in the other two games?

It is a good sequel rpg adventure :)

Puzzles aren't easy at all to figure out, but you really won't get stuck forever like the old adv. rpg's since you can see the primary manipulable situations with spacebar. I have had a bit of fun with it and they basically went Disney level with the orchestra score for the game.

It's a fun little adventure game. It's not a pixel hunt either which is a really good point to get it in my book. The puzzles are pretty fun. Spoiler, it ends on a cliffhanger if that bothers you think on it.

Great Point & Click adventure game. Good story with fun characters. The ending left room open for game # 3, but unfortunately this has not been made yet. Puzzles are fun, but not extremely difficult. There were only a few times I did trial and error or had to look up some hints. Graphics looked nice. Sound occasionally bugged out, but that was no real problem. What was annoying was that sometimes characters needed to finish their animations before you could interact with them, wasting some of my time. One of the achievements did not trigger, but the forums helped me out.

So............ much.............. pointless............ talking...............

1/3 of the play time you see is because I had to click (and listen) through lines and lines and lines and lines of dialogue that has no relation to the story in any way. Not to mention most of it is not funny either. As a fan of point and click adventures, I also couldn't fail but notice the shockingly small number of locations the protagonists visit throughout the game (get ready to revisit old locations time and time again).

Then, there's the ending... so many plot holes and an obvious cliffhanger that sets the scene for a 3rd game. However, 5+ years later, and there's not even a single sign of a sequel.

Other than this, the game does have its fair share of "strengths" - beautiful graphics and OST, among other things. The puzzles are also not bad. However, the excessive dialogue and lack of locations were a deal breaker for me.

I love this game so much. It literally breaks my hear that there isn't TBOUT 3 to continue this amazing saga. I would love to play it and would gladly kickstart it. It's perfection in the art style, humor, puzzles and voice acting. It is bittersweet to play, because I know there is not a resolution to this story. Please King Art revisit this wonderful series.

I cannot say how much I have enjoyed these games because its a huge amount!
I have played the first one and completed this one now and I honestly don't know of any other games that have kept my interest for so long.
I played this on and off with weeks in between sometimes but I always loved coming right back into it.
This collection of games is 10/10 for humour, puzzles, story, art.
Please King Art keep the story going and make some more please pretty please:)

Playtime is inaccurate (left mt pc running), however the game was rather long, and I did not get stuck anywhere for long.

Puzzles are fairly easy, and the UI makes them quick to solve since you can see which objects interact with each other by hovering the pointer and seeing if the arrow turns red. It makes matching random objects painless. Thank god.

Art 10/10

Story 6.5/10 My least favorite of the three. Seemed rushed and not as structurally sound. A little random and hard to follow in places. Not as interesting as the first two games. It has its moments, though.

Bugs 5/10 Some weird audio issues with the voiceovers in the last part of the game. This section had a bunch of bugs (not game-breaking), mostly audio problems.

Conclusion: Still worth it if you are a fan of the first two games and it is on sale, of course. The characters, dialogue, and art are the most enjoyable aspects of this game.

This is an interesting game with a pretty good story and some witty writing. If I had to describe it, I'd say it's a point & click game mixed with some light puzzle elements, probably similar to King's Quest.

PROS
+ Fairly engaging story with some pretty witty and humorous dialogue
+ Voice acting is good
+ Puzzles are generally well done (although there are some moments where a connection doesn't really fit)
+ Unique and well designed setting, interesting cast of characters; game looks good

CONS
- So SLOW; my GOD, the character movement is annoying and slow, and often the character will need to position themselves juuuuust right to *look* at something, which can be frustrating
- There have been some bugs where my character is investigating something and they get glitched there, unable to move or look at anything else (just reload previous save to fix)
- The game's narrative starts off in a place that isn't particularly engaging (perhaps this would be different if I had come from TBOUT 1 - which I did not)
- The lack of an index or "diary" is appalling; you can't keep track of any progress you make. Why can't I revisit dialogues to check for things that I might have missed?

I really wanted to like this game. It's buggy and apparently support stopped 2 years ago. The particular problem I am having is that after clearing the school, you try to leave, and you get a black screen. The space bar reveals there are doors to press, and you end up in an infinite loop, unable to leave, and watching the head master leave for the night.

I LOVED IT.
I played the first one and i liked that game, but this one is amazing! The story took some spins that i really didn't expect. The locations were fascinating and made me want to explore them. The voice acting is great. The graphics really suit the game (beautiful lighting by the way).
The only thing that i did not like is the music on the menu screen. It gets too tiring if you leave the menu open for some minutes. And I would like to be able to lower the music volume more so i can listen to the rest of the sounds better.

Game breaking bug encountered during the pirate poker game. I already got a game breaking bug on TBOUT 1. So soooo frustrating...The autosave didn't help, since it "moved" it's save time to when the bug was happening. Uninstalled....please fix your games! :-(

Edit: I reinstalled the game after looking at some help online. I had to start a new game and restart the chapter where the bug took place. Pirate poker is at the beginning of chapter 4, so I didn't have to redo all too much. So I reinstalled the game and tried it out. Turns out it worked. The story and the game are awesome, other than the bugs. I recommend this game.

This game is really awesome. In my opinion together with the first part it comes close to some of the old lucasarts titles. It also contains a lot of subtile yet funny parallels to Pratchett's Discworld, Lotr, Harry Potter, a lot of others and also current themes in global politics (which are probably valid not only to this date)

Wow! I absolutely loving this game, a master piece point and click fairy tales adventure. Everything is gorgeous. graphics, story, fairy tales. It is quiet challenging but puzzle are making sense. Magic spell, elves, gnomes, trolls, everything is here to enchant your mind. Its like a mix of fairy tales, Harry Potters, and fantasia in one marvellous adventure. Really good, you're into it for awhile before you realize this (unless maybe you played first game). LOTs of content!!
They throw in references to Monty Python, LOTR, Ghost Busters,... character conversations are pretty interesting. Artwork is fantastic. Was most of the way thru the game when finally found out the SPACE bar will highlight items of interest (use it), might not need a walkthru as much.
Many games don't give you nearly as much content for the price, this game is not like that!
Beware though, there are some bugs, mainly where can't move character or interact with items if left to look at walkthru, so save a lot. It has a pretty good save system. This is for the Linux version, but think probably the same on Windoze.
Well worth your time to buy and play!!

What a little gem! Feels like it lives up to classic click and point adventure games! Recently, I have found that newer games in this genre tend to be really short and can be completed in a couple of hours, however the Book of Unwritten Tales - both 1 & 2 had really long play throughs! I thoroughly enjoyed the story, really sad to hear a 3rd installment is unlikely because I'd love for the story to be finished, especially with a cliff hanger like that! Show this game some love so the company can consider finishing the series.... you won't be disappointed! :)

Fine story, good characters, lots of humor, fun puzzles, add to this beautiful graphics and you have everything you could ask for in a point & click game.

Some slightly negative notes:
- Gameplay is a little slow: characters move a bit slowly, and interaction with object takes noticeable time for the character to turn/move. But it's minor.
- Sometimes voice audio drops to barely audible levels for a line of dialogue or the other. A bit annoying.
- There is 0 keyboard controls: it's a point & click, but a little keyboard commands such as open inventory or switch character or dialogue selection would have been welcome (, ...)

But overall it's an excellent game and I highly recommend it.

The best about it was the moment when you try to found out what is the reason to that unimaginable strange behaviour of "her". myrrth.sicopath

Absolutely excellent writing and exciting plot drive this adventure forward, with many diegetic clues to guide you through some of the trickier puzzles and THANKFULLY NO PIXEL HUNTING as you can press a button to reveal absolutely everything interactable on screen. A couple of puzzles did still leave me looking for hints online, although after reading the next step I would often realize that the game had given me dialogue to steer me that way and I either missed it or thought it was extraneous.

Docking points for two big reasons: Number one, this game leaves off on a few cliffhangers that apparently are unlikely to ever be resolved. Number two, there are a couple of longstanding game-breaking bugs THAT WILL RUIN YOUR SAVE FILE if you don't catch them and immediately reload a save, so this is a game I would encourage you to play while manually making new saves every time you do something significant, because the Autosave is useless and you really need multiple files in case one of the playable characters straight up disappears even when you try to control them. A headache, but not a massive one, and the game makes up for it otherwise. The plot definitely seems prescient considering it was written in 2014 but I won't say any spoilers.

I really enjoyed the three games in this series and hopefully someday they finish their overarching plot!

The only nice thing I can say about the game is that I still like Wilbur’s story (so far. I haven't finished the game). I played the first one and he was my favorite in that one too.

My complaint is with Ivo’s story. Who in their right mind could possibly think that this story is okay?!! Her depiction was irritating in the first one what with the bra and booty shorts, and the contrived romance, but this game takes it to a whole new horrific level.

The fact that the stakes in her story are so dramatically different than those of the men is the least of it. The scant clothing and constant readjusting of her bust when she’s idle is frustrating, but ultimately, I’m used to it. So many games treat women this way that I’ve become numb to it. No, her clothes don’t bother me much.

The constant comments about the stick thin elven princess being “fat” definitely pissed me off, but that’s not even the worst of it. Not by far.

Spoilers for Chapter One:

So, let’s get to the content of the story. Where Nate’s story begins with life and death stakes as he plummets from thousands of feet in the air, and Wilbur is trying desperately to prove himself and confirm the Archmage’s faith in him as threats to the Archmage’s life creep in the shadows, Ivo’s story begins with her mother locking her in her room and telling her she needs to marry prince so-and-so. So, not exactly equivalent stakes.

We continue.

Ivo is feeling depressed and convinced that there is some terrible ailment affecting her. Turns out, she’s pregnant. I guess this is meant to relate to all the “fat” comments. Her mother has already told her she’s getting fat a dozen or more times by this point, which is pretty awful regardless of her actual weight, but she is absolutely stick thin.

Anyway, Pregnant. And how did that happen? Well, we’re not sure, but the possibilities aren’t great. Also, apparently, Elven sex-ed is severely lacking. After comments about communing in the moonlight or some such nonsense being the source of elven pregnancies, the topic of sex is broached. Ivo does not know what sex is. She asks. No one is willing to tell her. Why? I guess even a simple birds and bees explanation is too much for them.

Regardless, we are presented with two possible causes for the pregnancy. One is that she is cursed. Apparently curses can cause pregnancy. Okaaaaay…

The other is that she and Nate had relations while he was visiting the Elfburrow. Which is a problem, because Ivo doesn’t understand what sex is or what the consequences of having it might be, which means, she cannot truly consent.

Thus we are dealing with either rape or forced magical pregnancy. Either case is deeply troubling.

One might expect that such a life-changing event would at least be addressed in a considered and respectful manner. One would be disappointed. Ivo is mildly irritated by the revelation but not all that concerned, and her father, who apparently already figured it out (somehow), seems even less so. Her bodily autonomy has been stolen from her either by a spell or by a man who claims to love her, and it barely seems to have any emotional or psychological impact at all.

(Side note: Honestly, what she sees in that idiot, I cannot say. I get why the shallow moron is into the hot elf girl, but what does she get out of the relationship?)

Still having no comprehension of intercourse, Ivo decides it’s a curse, and sets out to find the Archmage in the hopes that he can give her a more thorough explanation. There follow a lot more comments about her weight, and she suddenly begins to show, basically overnight. From here, she gets wrapped up in Wilbur’s part of the story.

That’s about as far as I’ve gotten, and at this point I’m only playing the game for Wilbur. I have no hope that they will redeem themselves in their depiction of their female characters.

I haven’t even said anything about the scant few female characters that exist in the periphery. But this is already too long, so I’ll just end by saying that this game is incredibly disrespectful toward women, and given many of their stated intentions, I find this extremely disappointing. I like the style of game, but if there are additional games put out by this particular group, I will NOT be purchasing them.

This game is absolutely amazing. Even better than the first one. I think it's so good that it becomes a bit hard to describe it and point out everything that it has to offer. I've had a blast playing every second of it. It is quite long, especially if you are an explorer kind of gamer, trying to find everything you can in the game. Heavily story-focused, with amazing puzzles that always felt just right difficulty and logic-wise, breathtakingly good voice-acting, awesome soundtrack, superb incredibly lovable characters (even all the secondary ones), loads of easter eggs, and just about everything any adventure game fan would love. I really hope there will be a bout3 in the future, because this team can clearly deliver on great games and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, on day one. Worth every penny.

I very much like this game, but I keep getting stuck in Chapter 3 and have not been able to locate a fix that works, or a savegame file that is current and it's becoming increasingly frustrating.
