Probably among the deepest and most well-executed stories I have seen in a video game. The gameplay does take some getting used to, but in my opinion it echances the narrative once you do. Part 3 can't come any sooner!

Siegmernes

This is definetly a second part of the series!

The focus of the story has shifted but it remains in the same wheelhouse as the first.

Any information beyond that really would be a spoiler for the story so I'll stop there.

The combat has been changed and while I massively prefer the first ones combat, I respect the attempt at innovation!

The enviroment design has also taken a different approach. There are far fewer distinct enviroments, but the enviroments that are there are more distinct from each other. Which one you prefer will likely come down to preference.

All in all, a worthy sucessor that does a lot of stuff (especially the story) right. The issues I have are mostly opinions and not fact so others may rightfully disagree.

I recommend the game at full price and am looking forward to the next game by the team!

What you get when you start up here is a solid and interesting title, but one that is obtuse and at times a bit buggy in ways that will actually get in the way of figuring it out. It has a lot more variety then the original game did and even improved on some of the clunkier aspects of combat from it, but it needs to be compared because unlike many sequels, this one really does depend on you playing the first one first. If you are looking to try the franchise out, stop right here and go play The Fall first. But if you have and want to continue the adventure, come on in. Just don't be ashamed to grab a hint or two along the way.

while unbound does have several strengths, it has just as many failures;
clunky combat and click-everything puzzle solving were only a minor problem in the original, but have since intensified;
unrealistic network visualizations can be really cool or really awful, and unbound chose the latter;

writing and environmental design are the strong points of the series, and both the butler and one continue that trend with unforgettable scenarios;
however, the majority of the companion's sections do not believably introduce humans, and her environment is comparatively dull;
the writing also feels forced at times, especially at the end;

i'm a bit hung up on the title, because this isn't really the story of a fall, it's just the sequel to one

It's good. The story is good. The characters are interesting and the voice acting is amazing. Puzzles are good, a few were frustrating but normal for puzzle games. One's "One Finger Death Punch" (oh, it's a pun) parts are cool and surprising.
Although the controls suck sometimes, randomly turning around when walking through a room is incredibly annoying.

I haven't quite finished this game yet, but definitely has been worth the play. Not a huge fan of the combat sections, which are somewhat numerous, but the plot and characters more than draw me back in. If you liked The Fall pt 1, play this too.

Great game, challenging puzzles. I had to look up a solution 3 times, not because puzzles were too hard but because I was unclear of my objective.

I couldn't wait for the sequel for this series and I was not disappointed at all. Such a beautiful story.

The first episode of the series didn't quite sit with me; It was more of a horror game with basic game mechanics and a predictable twist. Part 2 more than makes up for this. I felt like part 2 had a very profound lesson to teach about a core part of humanity. This was subtly reflected in the unique mechanics of using shifting perspectives to solve novel puzzles in a story that has just the right amount of twists. The ending leaves you wondering but not needing what will happen in the next part. I felt like part 1 forced a cliche cliffhanger to goad you into the sequel. Part 2, on the other hand, has made me interested in whatever game the developers are creating next, sequel or not. Experiencing a thoughtful story in such an immersive way is everything you could want in a game and I hope the creators get enough support to continue their amazing work.

I WOULD recommend this game for people using mid-spec or better machines who like interesting and innovative puzzle games. I would NOT recommend this game to people playing on old / low-spec machines because that will be frustrating. I would NOT recommend this game to people who have disabilities that interfere with quick-reflexes combat gameplay.

The concept is very exciting and parts of the gameplay are very innovative. I have never before played a game that used some of these concepts this way before; I won't elaborate because, well, spoilers. It's all quite novel, which in a puzzle game is a very good thing.

Unfortunately, if you're playing on a lower end machine (in my case, Core i5 / Iris 5100 iGPU), poor frame rate makes the combat sequences tedious and difficult and the puzzle-solving interface clunky. Don't know why; the graphics don't *look* that complex. I was about ready to give up in the first third of the game.

I became very frustrated that combat was not skippable. Which is tragic, really, since the game is mostly puzzles! Making combat skippable would have been a great way to make this game playable for people on low-spec machines *and* people with disabilities that interfere with action gameplay. From the accessibility angle alone there's really no good excuse for a puzzle game to require you to succeed on a quick-reflexes combat sequence to continue the story.

HOWEVER, if you are willing to slog past these difficulties, or (I assume) if you're quick-fingered and on a faster/newer machine where the combat is smoother, the story is rewarding and some of the mechanics in the later part of the game are quite engaging. I'm looking forward to part 3, which (if it's made) I'm hoping to play on a more powerful computer.

great follow up, final half will need walk through as the general control problems of this game were never fixed. ie, aiming selecting etc, are the same if not worse. but overall, the payoff is wonderful. I want to see how it plays out. wish the developer would improve the games flaws instead of just moving on.

In a lot of ways, The Fall and The Fall Part 2 are my most pleasant surprises of the year. I picked them up on a whim on sale, but I really enjoyed my time with them. I really enjoyed the narrative elements, and when I was making progress through the game naturally, the game felt good. I am looking forward to The Fall part 3.

But the game is not perfect, and it is not a metacrit 90+, GOTY nominee either. The Fall 2 blends three styles of game.

(1) A Point & Click Adventure. You walk around, click on things, add to your inventory, and use them. That is a genre that is hard to do, because it does get frustrating, with just randomly clicking. It's not really a puzzler, with thinking about solutions and doing them. You just try the thing in your inventory on every clickable location. It gets a little frustrating in the second half of the game. There are four playable characters, and in the second half of the game you can look at each situation through the perspective of each character. Sometimes what perspective you should be in feels right, sometimes it feels random.

(2) Metroid-esq combat. This was pretty fun, and I would like to play a 2d Metroid that uses some of the mechanics from this.

(3) A kung fu mini game. Very simple, but really enjoyable. I think this could have been developed into a fuller game. Honestly, even a level-select that let me replay these sections for achievements could be a fun addition.

So it is a good set of games (don't play just one, get them both), but I really dislike point and click adventures, but the narrative was enough to make me slog through it.

a decent enough exploration of the question "when does a simulation of sentience become indistinguishable from sentience itself?" the writing is subtle enough not to hit you over the head (too much/hard/etc) and it builds neatly on the events of the first game, which attempted to tackle the same question but lacked the room to flesh things out as they are here (i recommend playing both back-to-back for the full experience).

the gameplay, unfortunately, is little more than some cheap knockoffs of other titles layered onto the mechanics from the first game, which weren't great to begin with & saw the barest improvements here. from a narrative perspective they work as a kind of combination joke about the brute force nature of AI & adventure games, but that chortle does little to soothe my aching wrists as i trundle back and forth hunting for the magic combination of "magnifying glass" and "my entire inventory".

Farfadh

Here is what I wrote for the first chapter of this game: "I wanted to like this game, but the controls are just awful, the puzzles are uninteresting, the action is dull. Even the story is clumsy, which is deceiving since it's rather original and feels promising at first. I don't hate it and I don't regret buying it, but that's definitely not a title I can recommend." All of that remains true for the second chapter.

The controls did not improve. I managed to understand what's wrong with the mouse control: there is a cursor, but it's invisible. The character faces it and point the gun/flashlight at it. But since you can't see it, it's difficult to move as you intend. That's messy, they should have used the mouse movement, not the cursor position. Jumping feels better though, and the new teleportation network helps breaking the monotony.

The interface is still impractical for puzzle solving. Now that's something for which a (visible) mouse cursor would have been welcomed. While it's pretty still the same, including lots of "trying-to-use-every-object-on-every-slot" which is a classic for the genre, it somehow got even more tedious, due to the introduction of two new puzzle mechanisms.

The first one is a schedule system you are bounded to at some points. It loops as long you don't solve the puzzle, and it gets old... as soon as you hit the second iteration, actually. Not only you have to find the solution, you also have to use it at the right time. Worse is when you don't know what to do yet, and it makes you visit places only in a specific order, because while they were kind enough to provide a shortcut to the next time slot, you cannot chose directly the one you need to be in. Even worse, animations and dialogues will keep happening endlessly, without being able to skip them. That wears out nerves really fast. Please, devs, do not enslave the player in such a irritating nonsense.

The second is the possibility to switch between the three secondary characters you get to control, and more importantly to make them assist each others. Being robotic beings, they are connected over the network, and can share their "perspective" in order fond solutions they could not find on their own. While it's an innovative concept that fits very well in the story, unfortunately it only triples the number of possible interactions instead of making the riddle more consistent and interesting.

The combat system is entirely new, and that's a good thing. Actually, there are even two of them now. No more of this dull "cover-shoot-repeat". Instead, we'll be exploring new types of dullness. Jokes aside, I've got to say that while it still does not fly high, it's a real improvement. Well, the first chapter set the expectations very low.

There are the shooting sequences in the virtual world, when traveling through the network. You may still need to cover sometimes, but only occasionally, just by standing behind objects. Most of the time, you will be moving and jumping around to dodge. Then, just after the enemies' attack, they will be vulnerable for a short while. But be careful, shooting uses an energy bar. If you attack too fast, you could empty it. Then no shooting and no jumping for a few seconds, without mean to dodge or retaliate. Add to that a secondary, more powerful shooting mode on the gun, and also the possibility to absorb enemies' attack, which boosts your own. So yes, the shooting phases definitely got better... but not great yet, especially since, once again the controls are awful, and this invisible cursor thing makes aiming very difficult.

There are also hand-to-hand fights which are pretty dynamic. You get to fight hordes on enemies coming from both sides. However, the controls are limited to two keys: attack on the right, attack on the left. Doing the right one at the right time will not only be one enemy downfall, it will also makes you dodge the one coming the other way. If your timing is right. Then the difficulty will rise for each combat. Some enemies will need to be hit twice, others will start to dodge. It is entertaining, but not for long. Well, with only two keys, it could not get us far.

So combats are new, combats are better, but they rather feel like mini-games than important phases of the game. They can be challenging though, just a little bit. As in the first chapter, you are likely to struggle a bit with the final boss until you discover what you actually have to do. And again, it would have been better with other bosses, having just one is a little short. One irritating thing is when you lose a combat, you usually have to go through long cutscenes and dialogues before you can try again.

The story and characters development stayed at the same, mediocre level. The main antagonist is hollow again, the friendly characters still not endearing nor relatable. It's going somewhere, but it's hard to care.

In conclusion, the game globally changed for better, but still not good enough.. The bad controls and the repetitive cutscenes you have to go through over and over makes a bad user experience overall. I can't recommend it, not at full price anyway. I'm glad I waited for a sale, and I will do the same for the third chapter.

In conclusion, The Fall 2: Unbound makes significant improvements in point and click game-play, visual effects, and a better variety of puzzles. The combat is either the same or worse as its predecessor. But the biggest shift is in tone. The original Fall focused on ARID's internal rules, which she altered many times to overcome difficult situations and her own inadequacies. Unbound mostly discards this feature. The tone of the first Fall was coherent and darker. Because ARID spends most of the game cohabitating in three different robots with diverse personalities, it loses the sometimes horrific and macabre tone of the original. The sequel loses something, becoming unfocused, even though these new characters provide unique perspectives. The Fall 2: Unbound isn't much different in quality from The Fall, but the expectations are higher, and while the developer doesn't collapse, they do stumble.

Fun and intereasting game.
Only thing I would add, is the option to make text bigger.

Decoherant

An intriguing story and compelling continuation of the first chapter marred by adventure game logic, shoddy controls that force you to pixel hunt or sweep the mouse around wildly to aim and clunky fighting sequences. Watch a let's play to get the story beats instead.

Not fun, I enjoyed the first game quite a bit but this sequel is just over loaded with constant back tracking and literally clicking every interface all the time to try and figure out what to do next. It's not real puzzle solving if all you resort to it "click everything until you can progress", really fucking annoying. I'm moving on from this. No sense in wasting anymore time with this horse shit. So irritated I don't even care to look up how it ends.

Pass on this.

Really conflicted on this!! I LOVED the first game and had the sequel wishlisted as soon as it was listed and I absolutely support this company, but I ended up quitting the game during the Companion stage.

I think there's some pretty complex questions about how to treat morality in videogames, and I think this game taps into some of them in a lot of important ways, but still ends up limiting you by being an ultimately choiceless interaction. My issue with this, though, is that it suits the macabre humor of the first two characters fine, but on the third you're suddenly presented with several absolutely unjustifiable actions. You are given no choice, then shamed for your actions, which indicates that the only Actual Choice you had was to stop playing the game rather than seeing the story unravel. I don't think this is a simple topic! It's something people discuss a lot in ethical game design, but given the option, I ended up uninstalling.

Since this game is so story+morality driven, I feel like the above aspect is the most important, but that aside, there's definitely some issues with the controls and general polish of the game. I'm pretty willing to look past those all, though, since the game is about exploration more than action, but there's definitely a lack of joy in actually controlling the character, and I would have loved to see more complex graphic and audio design in certain areas. The animation and flavortext switching between ARID and the other AI's is fab, though. I love that detail enough to want to point it out anyway.

Anyway, much love and sympathy for the devs. They pulled off a lot of cool stuff, but this game just didn't quite scratch my itch like the first one did!

It's difficult to suggest Part 2, especially if you lack any awareness of Part 1. Unlike whatever must’ve made Part 1 stand out long enough to keep a vague spot in my head, Unbound doesn’t exactly leave a novel impression. Part 2 plays further into the dry point-n-click interactions. Everything seemed reasonable and promisingly stylized with the allegorical robots until it began overusing the unapologetically ‘singular-digit punching’ gameplay. Things became more unappealing when the uncanny unity humans rolled in. Puzzles started making the tried-and-true ‘try everything with everything' process more reliable than actually applying logic. It's disappointing that the general mediocrity that engulfs Unbound gets in the way of a conceptually interesting plot with a quirky final act. A final installment might not be necessary unless The Fall comes to focus solely on being unique, polished, or just atmospheric instead of unsatisfactorily dabbling with platforming and philosophy.

Okay, this took me a lot longer to get around to playing than I'd like, but this was a GREAT followup to the first game, and an excellent story of sci-fi centered around robots. The mechanics are perfect for getting the main themes across, and I very much enjoyed all of it. My only complaints are that at some points the puzzles were a bit too obtuse and I had to resort to bruce force to proceed, and a trigger warning would have been appropriate: it's most appropriate for the third character's chapter, but it's applicable before then as well in more subtle ways. Looking forward to more from this developer!

I loved the Fall. Fantastic Game. I had high hopes for the second one, but ultimately ended up refunding it because I found trouble adjusting to the new controls and had technical issues with the game regarding the resolution being unchangeable through the main menu, leaving the game much smaller than my screen size. I recommend both of these games to people, as I had a thoroughly enjoyable time working through the 'puzzles' and progressing through the story. It was both dark and intriguing plot. I hope the technical issues are resolved at some point, as I'm sure I'm not the only person with this issue.

6bkovgy

I only recommend you the game if you look at this game as a fan game of The Fall, since those 2 games are barely similar, the game expands on the world and introduces characters but you will not get a straigth continuation from part 1, the Network segments I liked at first, they looks like metroidesk but those are linear segments with ... something being off from traversing them compared to the corridor-exploration from part 1
The parts where I use and help the other characters are fun (even if the butler is repedetive and a bit monotonous towards the end without a walkthrough (so many options and no nudges on which should be used)) and combat (except the final gun combat) is challenging in a good way (the final gun combat went a bit overboard with the difficulty in my opinion), the puzzles were logical but making the required leaps of logic often required trial and error or walkthrough ... the sad thing is I couldn't get gripped into the world of the game the same way as in part 1 even if I tried ... but the game is still good

Science fiction used as a metaphor for the human condition. In this case also presented as a potential solution for Elon Musk's dilemma about any future Skynets. It's better than most Sci-Fi's on tv and more entertaining.
TL;DR: 9/10

Pros:
-Sequel that kinda turns the previous story on its head, but done absolutely great.
-Great Story and Great Conceptual Idea.
-Great Riddles (for around 80% of the game)
-Quirky and/or emotionally hard hitting characters.....and philosophical questions.
Cons:
-Combat is fine, not bad, but not great. Best to use controller for this game.
-Some riddles towards the end are annoyingly meticulous and un-intuitive. Like 5 or 6 of them out of the entire game. So not the biggest deal.
-The final boss fight absolutely gives no helping hint. Sure, seems by design, they don't want to hold your hand, but kinda bad designs that they don't really explain anything past "accept other perspectives".

This game does not function. I have tried on two modern PCs with up to date drivers and I cannot play this game on either one. I suggest playing the console version.

ElizatronicWarfare
ElizatronicWarfare

This is a really, really good game. The gameplay is competent yet basic, but that's not the star of the show. This game is a transhumanist exploration of interpersonal relationships, examining what people mean to other people when they hurt them, love them, avoid them, cling to them - your ability to achieve your objective relies on understanding someone else's pain and joy, and navigating the space between them. "Person" doesn't always mean "human".

So, an interestingly sometimes pain in the ass of a game. Graphically pretty cool with solid story telling, but you sometimes seem to be going around in circles just clicking on everything trying to get something to stick so you can progress.

You play A.R.I.D., an A.I. who in habits other A.I.'s while trying to stop a virus that has invaded her. You will continually switch between them trying to solve puzzles in their different environments, teaching and learning along the way. Alot the puzzles are tough to figure out what to do, but when you do it gets pretty easy then to figure out whats next. You just have alot of those moments. The combat is pretty fun and you have the choice of adding more or less depending how you wanna play.

Pretty cool ending and overall the game left me satisfied.

As for the achievements, good luck. They are hard and I have no idea what to do for most of them that I didn't get. Some I got by dumb luck.

Like I said, pretty cool little game that is pretty challenging and definitely a pain in the ass. Took me around 9 hours to beat.

What can i say? If you liked the first game you really should play this.
More variety, more story, more lore, more complexity. Yes, a few times i found myself trying everything to anything trying to understand what the game wanted me to do, but honestly? only a couple times it happened and i happily went through it for the story.
Yes, the combat is still kinda weak but leaps and bounds above the first (my god how satisfying it is to fight as the One!)
All in all, a great game with an amazing story, gripping misteries and great atmosphere.

Can't wait for the third chapter.

An excellent sequel that improves on basically everything about the original while sacrificing nothing. It would be hard to recommend playing this without having played the original The Fall, but the puzzles make more sense in this one, the combat is way less annoying, and the storyline and characters are fascinating.

If you played the Fall and found the story remotely interesting, get this and play it. If you haven't played the Fall, I'd recommend you pick that up and power through some of the awkward puzzles and combat because the voice acting and story is great and it's not long, then come and get this.

Troll3Killer
Troll3Killer

Disappointing after playing the first game. The first game had clunky controls, but made up for it with atmosphere, story, and characters. This game somehow makes the UI more difficult, completely changes the atmosphere of the first game, and has boring characters that you must interact with that make you wish you could kill them.

Reavus
Reavus

The fact that aiming follows your mouse, but the game hides it, makes the simple act of looking around a pain in the ass.

There are also several sections where the solutions to puzzles aren't really something a normal person would think of and they come off as extremely arbitrary and needlessly specific. This is worsened in the 'perspectives' portion of the game.

While I love the story and messages that are trying to be told, the gameplay really holds the game back at times.

Peculiur Perennial
Peculiur Perennial

This game is such a major improvement from the last one, both game mechanic-wise and in narrative. But while people may complain about the puzzles and sensitive topics, the strongest factor that kept me hooked was the story and the characters. The writing is so intriguing and I genuinely loved the characters and the story that was unfolding as I continued to play.

The story is this series's strongest aspect and if you love games with robots becoming sentient in a unique and fascinating series of events, then I highly recommend you give The Fall series a try.

Strahhe
Strahhe

The first one was excellent, this one is outstanding.

I see no reason to give this any lower than 10/10, considering everything they did just right and finding nothing that left me wanting.

Story and writing

A remarkable insight into the very nature of sentience and the most unfathomable thought of nurturing it into something artificial. The machine that is feeling and capable of self-determination is a trope as old as action blockbuster and a topic oft pursued in sci-fi media, yet the writer here has developed it into something distinct and worthy of continuous ponder.

Audiovisual and art

Outstanding voice acting and directing further add immense value to the story.
Theatric use of soundtrack and SFX enhance scenes of drama and action.
Stunning and unforgettable level and environment design put me in awe. Considering the engine this game is running on, it is a marvel what they achieved particularly with the Butler and One levels. I only wish I can play this on Ultrawide so I can screenshot some of the scenes and make them my wallpaper.

Gameplay

The control scheme is leaps and bounds beyond the first one, which to put simply was unwieldy and hindering. Doing away with manual aiming in action scenes and simplifying yet maximizing melee combat did wonders to the gameplay.
The melee combat sets are remarkably satisfying, thanks to the effective use of great animations and sound effects.
Puzzles and final boss fight gives the absolute minimum level of handholding. Paying attention to the story and game mechanics is a must. The facts and logic are all there for you to use.

As janky the ranged combat can be and obscure the progression solutions are I still enjoyed the characters and the story enough to recommend picking this up (on sale). There is more variety with the combat than the first episode so I'll give them that.

When it comes to progression it's not that solutions are necessarily hard to figure out it's just that finding the proper interaction to progress can be a bit time consuming with little feeling of satisfaction for figuring it out. I ended up looking up a guide near the end just because I was sick of clicking on everything. There are some hints in the dialogue but often they seemed way too vague if they're even mentioned or maybe I'm just too much of a smooth brain.
After reading the guide on some parts I was mind blown on how I was suppose to even figure out that sequence of interacting other than just walking around clicking on everything.

All that being said it is still an improved from the first episode in many aspects and I hope they are planning on making a third episode because I would love to see what happens next.

Ümit Wesen

I've played The Fall back when I don't even remember. I loved the story, the aesthetic, the gameplay. It was great, it was an interesting video game that had a really great background story. I don't remember it being repetitive or anything that had bothered me. I liked it.

I was aware of the sequel, however I've had other things to attend to. So I could only buy it recently. This surely wasn't what I expected from the sequel of The Fall, however it kind of piqued my interest as soon as I realised that this wasn't a blatant copy of the first one either. It's unique in its own way and I do believe some dislikes come from this distinct way of gameplay - which I do really enjoy.

The Fall was a hidden gem when I played it. The Fall Part 2 is also a hidden gem that I enjoyed playing. Though, I wouldn't say it doesn't have its flaws, because there are many. For instance, I do remember the selecting with the flashlight being somewhat of a headache in the first game and that certainly is the case here whenever I want to choose a specific target or am very near one. There's also the combat sequences that are just really bad attempts to keep me engaged, however I was much, much more invested in the storyline and the "Perspective Problem" this game is trying to tackle with. Because that concept, with the help of switching between hosts, really made me think about how an artificial intelligence would perceive in a way that is oblivious to its "purpose." - of course, this is science fiction, but it's well written.

Controls and Options aren't great. Sound design is fine and gameplay is a mix of adventure and action sequences. So, I believe it's quite understandable that many would not like it at all. However I'm going to recommend this game, because I do believe it deserves more credit than it got and I would strongly suggest making this one "The Fall" game with two different sections.

I sincerely believe that folks at Over The Moon are very enthusiastic about their creations and I want to support them further. I know they will deliver much better products in the future. Thank you for your endeavour.

Also, thank you for the read.

The Fall is a game that you can be forgiven for initially expecting little out of; but if you give it a moment it will very quickly sucker you in with a deceptively bewitching yarn. Its a charmingly written game, personality and humour are both found in abundance, yet they don't overpower the narrative either. Full to the brim of little details that are there for you if you notice them, and won't detract if you don't. (The achievement icons!! Tell me that isn't the best kind of attention to detail.)
The voice acting is wonderful. The main character in particular has a gorgeous voice! It takes a real talent to bring across the emotion in what is supposed to be emotionless, and she really brings a depth to the character in her performance that immersed me in the story like nothing else.
I played for 20 hours total this game and its prequel and I would turn right around and do it all again in a heartbeat. Give it a shot, its well worth the price and it will help encourage the devs to make the third game. Though, while it was meant to be a trilogy series, these two games "end" in a way that is still very fulfilling. So, don't let the fact that the story is technically incomplete turn you away, it doesn't feel like it. There's closure and reward aplenty for the journey!

I want to say this is a good game but with how frustrating some parts in the game were I have to say no for it. To keep it spoiler free will not say to much other then I felt I spent far to long trying to do some parts of the game wile other parts have you backtracking and even switching back and forth doing a few puzzles at the same time.
Was not only spending what felt like an hour at times on some parts but getting lost when traveling around to the next parts as well. Sure over time you kinda learn the map some but is still quite a mind trip. Aspects of the game I felt overstayed there welcome and should maybe have put more hints on how to make progress without having to just look up what to do. Instead of saying "Yah finally got it" and feeling good about the situation I was more like "Is this ever going to end?" For some late parts in the game take out the idea of just trying an item on every interaction to move on.
The story however is really good and top end and enjoyed it.....but in my opinion best to just watch a video of one playing this part of The Fall or read up on the story instead of playing it. But if you do best to pull up a guide to help when you get stumped for a bit

wonderful story. worth every second.
however, at the later stage things get annoying. game wise.

note that this not the end for ARID story, there will be a third game (I hope anyway).

Very much enjoyed the game. A little hard to scan some of the clues though. Good story.

* it starts with very loosely knit "puzzles" and it gets worse. Towards the middle-end it becomes incomprehensible guess-clicking mode. And it worsens during the "perspectives" part of the game
* some of the objective such as the final boss fight are completely un-guessable and arbitrary, causing me to go clicking around. Some of it felt pixel-hunting, and some of it just plain exhausting
* Clunky controls
* the character turns back randomly when in "flashlight" mode
* select menu is clunky as well, requiring to cycle through the items manually with the keyboard

I wouldn't buy it even on sale. It is boring, repetitive, clunky, and incomprehensible at times.
Loved the first part - "The Fall 1", so the second part was a big disappointment for me

Jazz-E
Jazz-E

Unfortunately, this is not as good as the first part was. Some of the puzzles don't make much sense and are really frustrating. So much so that oftentimes I either had to try options at random until I found something that worked, or straight up look up a guide to get through a section.

Il Motosauro
Il Motosauro

It still has some very nice ideas, but the execution is poorly made.
Poor controls, poor puzzles.
Too much guesswork in the puzzles.
I finished it, but I feel like I wasted a few hours of my life on a poor execution of a good concept.

This combat control is just... awful.

Cuddly Kitty

This one is a mixed bag. The story is excellent, as is the presentation. However, the game controls, while serviceable, are problematic. The puzzle mechanics are where this game falls the shortest, though. They seemed clever in the beginning, but I was brute-forcing things by going through all the options before long. If the devs had bothered to improve signposting for progress/clues and not rely on the "guess-what-I'm-thinking" approach that many sub-par point-and-clicks rely on, this would be an excellent game. The final boss is also an issue in that the mechanics aren't properly explained.

Thorn
Thorn

Loved the way they have built upon and expanded the story in this game. Really enjoyed the multi-protagonist aspect. As other reviews have said, the game isn't perfect - I did end up trying lots of combinations in an effort to find the right one, as it wasn't always apparent, and the final boss fight should have had its main mechanic better signposted because it is unique to the combat up to that point and easy to miss. Overall though, I found this super engaging and highly enjoyable. Now very much looking forward to the conclusion!

Nice. Mostly a puzzle game, a bit like Flashback or Another World.

Sky
Sky

A hard choice.
Story is nice. Not as good as The Fall, but nice, it is ok.
But controls are awful. The worst. They are a pain to experience.
So let us say it is an ok game. Probably. Didnt play it all, but most of it.

That said ... it could be better. I mean, of course, but there are subtle ways the story is stereotipical where is should not be because ... I mean, if you can provoke, go all out, am I right? It is a sci-fi anyway. So ... The One is male ... why? It is expected. If you would make him a female, like the protagonist suit, that would be more impactful. And The Companion? Make her a man. Or why not make her able to change body? Can she have two bodies (or more? nut probably not comercialy viable ...) to serve her clients any way they want? She learns, so it makes sense you might not want to ure more than 1 AI for more than 1 body? Those are quite simple changes and the fact they are not utilised, tells you author of the story wasnt thinking that way. Even AI is stereotipical. I mean, she is SHE, but entire The Fall she is in service or her male pilot, doing everything for him and as soon as she realises there was no pilot, she ends. Then she is infected, but the one doing infection is again male. I dont know what will happen next, but this story is talking about AI and individuality, never about any other topic ... ok, there was a gay couple that was used and S&M? that was presented as sick, alcohol lubricates human emotions ... there are other themes but I have a hard time reasoning they are represented in a good way. Ou, there was that female guard, her contact with The Companion was ok and not expected. Also, why do humans care about those robots? I mean, I understand that AI is lovable, but they are robots, arent all The Companion models lovable? Or was it that they couldnt get a replacement before they get to the next port? Anyway ... those are reasons why story is just ok. It has something to tell, it tells it, it is ok as far as I saw, it could have more. My take :)

EDIT: Finished it. The ending is nice, wont spoil it, but it is a good take on previously mentioned problems. If any one perspective is flawed, we can compensate through others. Nice. But most mentioned problems are still there, so, I am just glad ending is nice.

This game is amazing, with an amazing plotline, voice acting, and puzzles. I still prefer the first game, but that doesnt mean i dont love this one. Even though this game provides a summary of the first game, i would recommend to either play or watch a gameplay of the first one, it makes the game much better and will give people a better experience.

Just beat this game so I have some feelings to process about it...
Great story, I especially liked the empty house inspired from the Martion Chronicles. Nicer ending than the first game, less cliffhanger and more open ended. Also good voice acting!
OK gameplay. I really enjoyed One's combat scenes, but I wish I could have rebound (haha) the controller buttons for Arid. She has a lot going on, with lockon, 2 kinds of shots, jumping, and shields. And I forgot which was which before every combat. >_< But, restarting from saves is fast, and I never had to change to easy mode. Exploring was interesting, wish the network weren't all... sky blue-grey-silver.
Puzzles are... either fun and emotionally sound, or obtuse. I have investigated most objects with every idea in my inventory... as much to find if anyone has something funny to say as out of frustration. But you have 3 things in your inventory at once, tops, so the combinations are never overwhelming. However, at one point, I didn't realize I could get One to do something that he objected to, and had to use MereLyap's guide. Thanks MereLyap, for having a guide with no spoilers!
But, yeah, beat it in 2 days, had feels and thoughts, would suggest it to other people looking for mental stimulation, if not dexterity stimulation.

As a huge fan of the original am extremely disappointed. The controls ruin the experience and are somehow a downgrade from the original. The story is still great but not enough to carry the hole game

Phourc

So I remember the first game (which I apparently played six years ago o_O) being kind of this weird, malfunctioning robot morality play where the story was all about how far A.R.I.D. would go for her pilot, who is maybe-dead but maybe-not, and if we waste time here that might cost his life but we can't know that so maybe all these sacrifices are for nothing?

This one, in the fashion of all good sequels is basically that but more. ARID herself is under attack and she's absolutely willing to wreck lives if it comes down to it. And there's a new, fun cast of malfunctioning robots: including an arrogant ascetic, a stoic butler and a bubbly sex-bot. Does it get a little dark? Yeah, definitely. But the writing is fantastic and the payoff is worth it, if you're into adventure games with maybe-too much shooting sections in them. (And this time, also One Finger Death Punch sections? Just like... that exact game for some reason. BRB reinstalling!)

There were lots of interesting bits of story in this game, as well as a reasonable number of interesting puzzles, some satisfying actions, and an overall story arc that felt earned and meaningful. The combat minigames were fine, if nothing particularly special.

It was marred by the presence of some 'read the author's mind' puzzles that made whole sequences enragingly frustrating to play. There were several times I lawnmowered through interacting with everything on the map with everything in my inventory, and nothing made sense even in retrospect as to why this one particular combination of item/item worked an not any of the other item/item combinations.

This means that you're almost certainly going to have to play this game with a walkthrough, which is unfortunate, because it means that you can't trust the game to be fair, and when you can't trust the game to be fair every time, you run the risk of spoiling particular puzzles that *did* happen to be fair, robbing yourself of the enjoyment of feeling clever.

There's nothing particularly new about the interface between this game and Part 1, so your feelings about that will probably remain the same. It's always been a little janky, but in general, you can make it work. There's a very real problem of not noticing an exit or a critical item, which is actually exacerbated somewhat at the end of the game when you gain the ability to change things up a bit and *different* items are suddenly highlighted all across the map, meaning you have to sweep your view-light across the map in all modes to ensure you didn't miss anything.

I'm complaining a lot about this, but I did like it. I appreciated the characters and the story of them coming together, and the payoffs at the end of the story were quite satisfying, the story having laid the groundwork for them well in the earlier parts of the game.

A seriously amazing step up from the first game (not that the first was in anyway bad) but the narrative and how the story is told to you is a extremely well done. A very 'Aasimovian' will make you ponder the realities of AI and the implications of binding them.

The only con would be the network world sequences which I slightly found tedious to traverse but looking back they weren't too bad.

Amazing job, Over The Moon. Good luck on the third installment!

I was very much enjoying this game until I got to the segment where I was controlling 'The One'. The fighting sequences were completely idiotic and reducing the combat difficulty to 'easy' did not help at all. This idiotic part ruins the entire game by forcing you into this stupid part.

I loved the first game, and the sequel doesn't disappoint. Fantastic writing and voice acting, and the expanded length was appreciated. As usual, people complained about the combat and controls again. I enjoyed the expanded combat well enough, but found fighting the same old blobby things tiresome, and the auto-targeting doesn't work well at all. The greater amount of content means more bugs this time around, though the majority are audiovisual and do not break the game.

All in all, money well spent, and very much looking forward to the series' conclusion!

Following on from the original game, The Fall Part 2: Unbound sees you resume your role as ARID, having broken free of her programming and going through an existential crisis. Playing the first game, while highly recommended, is not required to enjoy this installment.

To a greater degree than its predecessor, Unbound is really a journey about self-realisation, and the world building is a stark departure from the original. This time around, you play as ARID, commandeering three different robots in order to achieve your own goals. Each robot is uniquely different (One

I got this thinking it would be as good an experience as the first game. Sadly this wasn't nearly as good as the first. The subpar controls and gameplay really hold it down though. Movement and interaction is just as clunky after years of time to improve it. Combat is shallow and repetitive. It would be better served as a standalone story than a good story with a subpar game forced onto it. I ultimately just watched the ending on youtube rather than finish the game as I wasn't getting anything out of it other than annoyed and bored.

Overall it's a great game and, just like its prequel, I highly recommend it. (copy-pasted most of the review actually)

The story in this game is particularly amazing and totally worth playing because of it. It's all about AI and consciousness (minor spoiler, click only if you must). It's moving and deep. If you like this thematic, you will no doubt be fond of this game.

BUT you need to be prepared for a few particularities:

1. It's partly a point & click: I highly recommend having a guide on your side to use when you are stuck. Don't stay stuck for hours or you will get frustrated. Please use the guide and keep cool to fully enjoy the experience.

2. It has some action sequences with multiple unique gameplay mechanics different from its prequel. Don't expect an amazing gameplay. It's okay but you should not buy this game for its gameplay or you will be disappointed. The game mechanics and controls feel a bit awkward but you get used to it. As I said, the overall game is really worth the effort.

I read some people call it a masterpiece. I suppose it's because the story is really great. I personally loved it.

Nsyse

As much as I liked the first one I don't recommend the sequel and unsure if I'll play the next one (if it gets made)

The Fall 1 was a point and click with interesting theme and story, The Fall 2 is -initially- another one.

Without spoiling the first one, this is a direct sequel and has a few things going for it :
+ More interesting and numerous characters
+ Good if not better puzzles
+ Fun sequences inspired by One Finger Death Punch

3 things hold it back to the point I was left very unsatisfied despite finishing it:

- Mainly : Filler bad metroidvania segments (NB: I normally love Metroidvanias)

For some reason it seems the game was shy about remaining a pure point and click.
So instead a good 50% of it is very uninspired metroidvania platforming.
Go here, fight waves of braindead enemy, go there do it again, ok time for the real game (the point and click) alright now back to walking sim metroidvania.
I could rant on and on about it but essentially, they're uninspired, control poorly and absolutely kill the pacing.

- I don't buy the main character development or the stupid plot twist

Can't really elaborate much without spoiling but while the first game was a slow buildup in terms of character growth, the second one gets very hopeless very quick and throws a cheap sloppy plot twist I can't be assed to care about already later.

- Ending be like : Ok now wait for the sequel!

The ending attempts to set up for a finale that seems predictable yet doesn't even attempt to wrap loose ends.
I don't expect it to ever be made either given owner count is about 4x lower than the first one and I don't know if I'd buy it anyway.
