this game is not satisfying enough in my opinion. The story and the zombies are good and all, but... it feels like that this game had so much potential and could had a fun experience but. this game is just another typical Zombie Survival game and that's ok. Sooooooo if you are looking for a Zombie Survival game and want to put yourself in a open world and a story to it, then you should do your research on this.

I like the company, and the game can be good. Unfortunately, it was just not what I expected of a Last Stand game, so I had to refund it. But if one day you guys release a game with the characteristics of Union City plus the resources you have today. I'd gladly spend some good bucks on it.

I wanted this game to be good, I really did. It reminded me of Dead Zone and I was ready to try it. It was a real let down. The game play was meh. The whole being infected already thing really kills my mood to progress anywhere with the characters you play as. Some of the aspects of the game are decent. Combat isn't too bad and exploration can be fun at times. But overall, my experience with the game has been very underwhelming.

More than a decade of zombie survivor game experience (The Last Stand flash game series) condensed into this game, everything is great but a bit repetiveness. Overall, great for the price.

Love this game, it reminds me of the past when i played the previous games by the same name. Lots of nostalgia and many cameos from past games. Great zombie game!

I'm absolutely vibin' with this game. Love everything about it except the infection meter but like a 20 second trainer download and that's circumvented. Great fun for simple roguelite zed action baby you're getting what you're window shopping for.

Reviews gave me some decent expectations but damn this game is boring. The fact that everyone you're playing with is already dying kinda obliterates the feeling of "survival".
The movement feels clunky. Looting is boring, just press a button wherever it says to do so. And the combat is realy dull. 5-6 attacks with a knife, did they ever hear about stabbing them in the head? The best part is when your melee weapon breaks, you'll be going Mike Tyson on their ass.
Literaly a zombie boxing simulator.

A step forward for The Last Stand series; Last stand aftermath takes bits of elements from the previous entries in the series - but goes in a very different direction. From a Defend the Castle point and click style flash game, to a twin stick shooter. When you kick that generator on, you get a bit of feeling like you're defending your sandbag wall in 3D. I hope to see more entries like this. I've been a longtime fan, and wasn't enthused with Dead Zone - but i'm glad you still produce things like this.

What a surprising gem. Randomly stumbled upon this game and decided to buy it on sale, and immediately can't put it down!
At first I thought the title was familiar, and then I found out that this used to be that free flash game back then! They came a long way and the fact that I can enjoy this game alone is impressive.

I thought this game would be really cool. I played the demo and remember enjoying it, but I feel like it doesn't respect my time, it's mostly about the grind.

I'm sure some players will love it.

The zombie game I always wanted out of the series, finally to fruition!!!! Its amazing, I got sucked in immediately. Worth it, there are a few bugs and not the best user interface, but I can see them updated those!

Wow what can i say, Con artist has seriously come a long way from the first Last Stand game back when flash was in its prime. This game feels oddly nostalgic with design cues from the second game coming back with needing fuel (instead of scavenging for supplies) to continue on to the next area with the familiar map selection screen. If you're a fan of the previous games you will feel right at home with this one, its a challenging experience at first but progressing through it slowly can might feel tiring after a while but satisfying once you start noticing your characters performing better with each run. The concept of the volunteers is interesting basically eliminating the fear of dying but sometimes i get attached to a volunteer only for them to parish an hour into a run because of poor mutation management or simply poor situational awareness tripping into a frag trap (RIP JOE). the only gripe i really have with this game is that i feel like im aiming directly at a zombie only to miss because the dot (Crosshair) needs to be slightly left or right of the zombie to score a hit (With the controller anyway). But all in all a very solid game and i can see myself sinking alot of hours into this in the future. Good work Con Artist.

It has some game breaking bugs, such as no-fuel spawn on map, not accessible places which can contain fuel and potentially end your hour(s) long run.
Few glitches here and there like zombies somehow spawned at top of towers or buildings and stuck there.
Not so very well designed aim system, if a zombie got a low or high ground you can't aim them. It's over Anakin.
And lastly it seems like updates are fairly rare considering their last update was 6 months ago.

I'm really torn apart for rating this, roguelite-post-apocalyptic-survival ticks all the box and totally fan of. Yet losing hours of progress due to a simple bug or glitch and considering the updates fixes are looking like a far fetched dream. A dream that you will forget it's existence and stay in dust at the corner of your steam library like the many other promising games.

It's not a BAD game and it doesn't crash.
There is some jankiness when trying to fight in tight quarters like corridors or doorways. Often you cannot hit the zombies but they can hit you and getting hit is very very bad in this game.
The game is designed to be grindy so if you like that, that's a big plus. Early on you will die very quickly but as you play you unlock permanent bonuses for all your future characters. (estimate 20-30 hours for that)
Overall the game is enjoyable except for one design issue that killed it for me. When you get low on stamina the zombies can grapple you and do heavy damage/infection. This is presented as a button-spamming quicktime event but if your stamina is low (which is also the only time it occurs) it is impossible to win. This happens when you design something on paper and never test it in actual gameplay.

The game's concept is simplistic, and leaves you to imagine what PROJECT ZOMBOID would be like with such beautiful visuals.

A pity there is no coop because it would be really cool to play with friends.

I recommend buying at a discount or if you want to stimulate the production of games of this nature, buy at full price!!!

In general, I avoid game themes like this, for those who like it, it's a little fun.

I love me some roguelikes, and making it a post apocalyptic zombie looter makes it even more fun. Also is reminiscent of the flash game series of the same title (That I didn't play).

Only things I don't like SO FAR, are the stealth, melee, and movement mechanics. With stealth even if you're crouched and you have the stealth enhancing mutation, you can still be seen fairly easily. Melee seems kinda jank, if you're facing more than one zombie and go to melee the first one you may just teleport behind it and hit the second. Finally with movement you can get stuck on a lot of the things, walking down a certain flight of stairs a big man caught aggro and I wanted to run back up but kinda got stuck on a single step. Vaulting is also very weird and uncomfortable feeling. (You can dive vault but it doesn't work half the time so it's not very reliable.)

Everything else about this game is fun fun fun. Still haven't beaten it but will continue to survive on and eventually beat the game.
The skill system is a very good feature to a roguelike like this, making me excited when I have enough KNOWLEDGE to upgrade a few skills permanently for my next volunteer to use. At the end when you max all the skill I assume the game will start to get dull from there. With the weapons n such there doesn't really seem to be "builds" you can make, though it never seems to get boring or repetitive, at least for me.

Really wish there was more content but it's performance was great, it looked great, and the story was there just enough to keep you going.

Be prepared to grind for an hour before you are able to progress beyond the wall.
Oddly addictive, highly annoying.
Initial tutorial doesn't really explain all the dynamics of the game/crafting. You are left to your own devices to figure that piece out. Once you do. It will make it a "bit" more survivable. There are a lot of light bulb moments in this game.
Annoying things that I found. I'm pretty sure the hit boxes are janky, often annoying.
The survivabilty of each "volunteer" is low, do not get attached. They will die and die often.

Each map tends to repeat itself, side quests along the way are interesting, if however, you can survive long enough to get there and not rinse and repeat.

Combat is decent, except for the hit boxes. Save your rounds, do not shoot at anything laying on the ground or things that might low crawl. You will not hit them. Shame the devs don't fix this.

the "T" thingy is in short supply, save your batteries.

Roger. Out.

The game is fun, but it will eventually get boring. This game is a rogue-lite (like Hades, if you ever played that). You'll die quite a bit, but you'll get stronger through each run by accumulating "knowledge". You can use knowledge to permanently unlock character upgrades.

After completing your first run, you realize that you'll need to complete many more runs to complete the story. This is where the game gets stale and repetitive. I stopped playing after the first run, as once was enough for me.

This Game is so much fun, and the Infection mechanic really makes it non-rage inducing. Also I am so happy to see the masters of Flash Gaming finally getting the recognition and Success they deserve, this Game is a Dream come true for me, Thank you Con Artist for switching to Steam, People like you really make Video Games an Artform, unlike Most Triple-A Devs right now. Definitely recommend this game, it's nice to play casually and has pretty much infinite Replay Value. Also love the Roguelite elements.

Barny
Barny

I'm a fan of Con Artist games, but to be frank it's just a hit and miss. The whole game feels clunky and there is no quality of life at all. Fighting doesn't feel polished at all, easy to glitch. Did your character's attack animation accidentally made you move into a fire? You are dead. Did you fail to spot a trap (for some fucked up reason almost all of my explorations took place during the night, when it's hard to see anything)? You are dead. Did you stuck into an object while fighting zombies? You are dead.

And generally speaking the whole thing feels cumbersome. Inventory management is a mess (not user friendly at all, if you break a melee weapon the next one is not auto equipped), you can't rotate the camera angle, so it's a chore to spot/check for lootable places during night. RNGJesus can fuck you up big time and at the end it may all not matter, since you play an infected person who will die eventually. So there is a timer on you, so expect to die, relatively quick, then you start with a new character. However, it pretty much eliminates the fun of getting more and better equipment, etc. As I said, the whole game is basically is a hit and miss. Not a bad game, but definitely not a good either. And I didn't even talk about things like whenever you start a new run, you have to go through the same annoying tutorial intro and NPC discussions.

EDIT: I played the game for an additional few hours and nope, it doesn't get better. First and foremost RNGJesus is still a pain in the ass, when you get bad drops of antidotes (why can't you carry more than one?) and die at the last stage or shortly before, you can play through the same environment with minimal variation. Fighting is pain in the ass too, I got killed during one of my best runs simply because didn't have antidote on me and during dodge I got stuck in the corner of a scenery object and the bloater guy infected me.

Second, this game is one the market for ~9 months and still a bugfest galore. Zombies walking in the air, stucking, glitching through walls.

Do you remember Con Artist's game "The Last Stand: Dead Zone"? That was a free game and it was more well made than this game, sad to say it. I am not sure what happened to Dead Zone but this game seemingly took its spot and dead zone is dead now - unplayable anywhere which is a bummer because people would pay for that. What happened Con Artist Games? What happened.

Actually very worth $25. I got it on sale though. They did a great job. Simple enough crafting, looting, shooting, and melee. Bit of a rogue-like. Your player is basically expendable and you spawn back as a new player with some advancements and perks in a way that makes sense for the story. Never thought I'd play another isometric shooter.

Some issues with POV where you are blind because the isometric view. They tried to solve that with transparencies and highlight outlining in some cases but they missed a bunch.

Now... lots of bugs. Common ones are avoidable and involve the procedural generation to mess up and block a path that clearly makes no sense. Zombies can sometimes hit you further than they can reach if the approach angle is right. The worst bug I've gotten more than anyone should is the inexplicable instant death. Not taking damage, have plenty of health, character falls over dead from nothing. And that's a waste of an hour or two if it's a good run. Taking a break from this game because of it.

Great game! Nearly 100 hours in, just got my last achievement, everything maxed, and I'm very likely to continue playing this game for awhile. Excellent twin-stick action that isn't always 110% in your face. Reminds me of State of Decay 2 minus all the base/community stuff. Just you, relentlessly searching, exploring, and building inventory to make it further. Excellent weapons variety. I really like the ability to adjust what complications you add for the Difficulty Tier runs post initial map/story completion. Visually, the game looks excellent (RTX 3060 @ 1440p). Lighting effects are spot on. Auto-save between zones makes it easy to hop in for a quick round, or playing for hours. I don't think I ever got stuck on something, or fell through the map. Solid game I'll continue to play when I want some twin-stick zombie action!

Yeti
Yeti

Awesome game that had me addicted from the first run and contains an awesome endgame that will keep you playing for as long as you want. The only downsides are some bugs (occasional invisible enemies, melee targeting sometimes not being reliable, and inconsistent range on traps), and the camp leader being a "Strong female who don't need no man" containing obligatory mental illness haircut feminists love these days.

If you like rogue-like/rogue-lite games this one is a must play. I hope there is a sequel in the works.

Awesomeman360
Awesomeman360

tl;dr: The game has problems but it is VERY fun.

Summary of Gameplay (No Spoilers):
The game is a Roguelite where your character dies and your subsequent characters can use the "Supply" your previous characters have gathered to "Pay for" equipment for your next trek. When you have scavenged an are you get back into your car and a map opens up in the style of "Slay the Spire", where you have a 'Tree' of locations to choose from that ultimately lead to the main checkpoint.

Note: I am playing on Mouse and Keyboard which is not the recommended way to play. (But It works well in my experience)

What's fun about it?

    • The story isn't bad (so far)
    • The weapons are interesting to use and weapon choices matters
    • Crafting has an impact
    • Completionists are rewarded
    • The Top-Down view is surprisingly enjoyable

Problems: This section seems hefty but it is important to note the game is still fun and I love playing it.

    • The game isn't difficult... The first location or two provide really the only challenge. If you can hit your shots you really shouldn't be desperate for ammo, etc. afterward.
    • Resources are just WAY too plentiful, but somehow also unbalanced. By far the part that bothers me most. They need to rebalance loot tables. The only critical resource to name is batteries and I'll either have 10 I can't use or won't find any on a run for 3-5 locations.
    • The fact that you're infected and turning into a zombie makes you want to complete runs quickly. Paired with plentiful resources, it completely negate the stealth mechanic. Any easy fix is make Auto-Injectors more available.
    • I usually die because of Cheesy Enemies or Traps. Traps are too hard to spot and some enemies are really unfairly balanced. There is an enemy that jump onto you from a distance and they can be hard to see at night because they are a dark color making it near impossible to dodge their attack. Another enemy Explodes when it gets close and ticks your infection rating WAYYY too much with no way to stop it until it runs it's course. Getting hit by them twice will completely ruin an entire run. Not sure there's any coming back from it.
    • The "Focus"/Bullet time mechanic gets me killed 60% of the time. The Focus mechanic is garbage and only good for planning and throwing AEO damage at enemies that haven't been Argro'd yet and should never be used to actually shoot bullets. It should slow the game down more and engage instantly (it take 0.5sec in my experience which is more than enough to get hit). But, not a biggie for me because I like the challenge anyway.
    • There is a trader that uses Knowledge as currency instead of Supply. Knowledge is in short supply sometimes, so balancing the shop is, in my humble opinion, impossible for the game designers. They should just switch it to supply, rebalance a touch, and it would be perfect.
    • The cursor sometimes doesn't line up very well. Hitting shots is already pretty easy though and resoures get to be plentiful so nothing that ruins the experience.

It has problems, but I'm still recommending the game because... i enjoy playing it! IMHO it's amazing that people with 40 hours into the game give negative reviews when they definitely got their money's worth lmao.

Artificial Idiot

There are some glitches here and there. You would fall through the floor visually, confusing yourself. When you try to throw throwables in indoor environments. And when you get stuck in specific spots on a location.

There are game-breaking bugs though. The gas can would spawn in a location where it's not accessible LITERALLY. You don't just get blocked by the lack of knowledge you have, but also objects and traps.
This happened to me at the LAST map before I was able to reach the lab.

One more thing! The explosions are a really big problem. Be it the oil barrels, grenades or traps, if you're within the vicinity of the explosion's range, you'll take the same damage no matter how far away you are from it.
So, it would make no difference if you're standing on a grenade or be a few meters away from it; you instantly die.

However, this game is still fun!

Derpster
Derpster

Although I do enjoy playing this game there is still some glaring issues with it.
First off the hardware requirements for this is crazy high for the graphics on display which leads me to believe its not fully optimised.
Some people months ago and more recently me have lost all our progress as the saves have magically erased itself.
The zombies are quite sensitive so being stealthy is redundant.
Weapon balancing is questionable as in a pistol does more damage point blank than a shotgun.
Not enough mutation variety so more often than not I don't bother with it.

Sgt. Soulkilla

I was looking for a survival zombie game the was not first person, came across this game and couldn't stop playing. feel if givin enough love, co-op and/or survive against waves at random locations would be awesome to see in the future. i would like to also like see a progress tab where you can see what your unlocking as you level up in game.

Wraith
Wraith

The game is buggy and poorly put together. It isn't fair to the player to have the difficulty be so high and have loads of bugs and traps that are sometimes almost impossible to detect. My loadouts that I buy seldom ever appear in the que and the bugs have gotten me killed so many damn time. The whole thing with the elevation errors and the spacing out show how sloppy this game is.
4/10 mediocre needs fixing before I re-install.

Kill trolls
Kill trolls

I stuck at a stage which called gas station where i am out of fuel and the developers actually didn't code the jump over option which the fuel is at the opposite direction of the fence so i was forced to be in that stage forever unless i have to kill my character on purpose to restart all over.
(Nope..i run through the whole stage for re-check. Developers did forget to code "jump over" option in that stage.)
BUT i chose to NOT do anything about it SO i can keep continue the game to be in that same place.
BECAUSE i am going to find myself some free times and record this down as a video and put it out there on the Internet to tell people about how horrible and bad this game is.

P.S ANOTHER GAME that kill you with pitch black and darkness. And there's some hazards that they won't tell you how to deal with and you're dead by trying something out. In the end, you restart over to travel back to that same place to try some other tricks JUST TO prolong your gameplay time. One wrong move and you have to replay over a hour to go back to that one place and try some tricks just to die again without knowing what to do...and keep recycling.
It's a game like they suddenly put a boss on you then tell you to beat it without even teaching you the presskey from the start. When you lose, too bad~let's travel back to that place by playing one hour again just to go back to that smae place and try any fu**king combinations from A to Z. Hope you finally GUESS it right. THIS JUST WASTING PEOPLE'S TIME~!!!

AsyFrost
AsyFrost

Fun but tedious game due to various reasons:

Essentially you can only aim horizontal but the maps have vertical layers to them allowing u to move up and down but not allowing you to aim up or down so you can point blank shoot an enemy but not hit them at all.

Survivor unlocks don't filter out your worst starter survivors and don't come as often as you'd think they would so unlocking them seems a big upgrade at first but aren't really. The upgrades come from knowledge & being able to progress further as you level up.

Various bugs that ruin your entire safe playthrough such as stairs that don't allow you to walk up on them only when approached by a certain angle or water you fall into and only being able to get up on seemingly diagonal platforms but then getting stuck while a horde is behind you or an armored sprinting giant is not that nice, likely death and wasted hours. Like previously mentioned certain maps have vertical layers that also cause in some very rare cases but conveniently I've encountered them, to go invisible due to being below the map(i assume) and not being able to be killed yet chasing you down without any obstacle so there's no escape and certain death.

For the game to get better I'd want a survivor whitelist so you can swap out a few bad ones and have your chance increased to get a good one from the start making it less bothersome to go through the same hoops. Fixing the majority of the bugs that cause the player to die would make the game much better overall.

Rating this 5/10 for now and if the above mentioned bugs would be fixed it would probably be 7.5/10

i cant find myself to play anymore after hours wasted from bugs and fuel that cant be gotten to. I'm personally not a big fan of timed games and I especially don't like the time based infection system this game employs, that's one of the reasons I like zombie games, because there's usually no timer and you're allowed to relax, explore, and appreciate the game,i found myself eating away at my infection bar as i tried to get the right materials for crafts and searched all buildings, i wouldn't mind if there was more batteries or the infection was much more forgiving.

This game feels like the DLC for another, better game.

An unsatisfying story that pulls at the heart strings of Project Zomboid fans, but fails to deliver anything worth sticking around for. No hope to build up on a game because you're already infected. Each zone is short lived and uninspired. Stealth is pointless after the 1st or 2nd zone because zombies you manage to take out respawn and they start throwing guys that will cause you to become almost infected if they explode on you, at all, even a little bit. Unrealistic melee weapon durability that makes close combat tedious.

Overall, boring.

I tried so many things and also referred some videos for the game to work, but whenever I start the game and skip / continue the monologue before the game-play starts, it instantly crashes and therefore, I am not able to play the game. I initially thought of cracking the game (which was terrible on my part as a fan + was going through personal hardships). But after that didn't work, I thought buying the game would be better. I was still hit with the same problem.

Being a Last Stand fan, I am very disappointed and hope that anyone with the "knowledge" (no pun intended) would help me with this issue.

Fate

Good game to pass time. 1-2 runs is about as much as you'll do. Game is fun with the constant hunt for antivirals, ammo, etc. Once you start getting drops for guns like M4s and Scars it becomes a tactical run and gun while keeping an eye out for armored enemies, chargers, and anything that can set you on fire or spit on you.

Biggest downside are the dumb ass ways you die. I have died mostly to unseen obstacles due to horrible camera angles. Going around a rock and it won't show through it like it does building walls? Congratulations you just stepped in fire and are going to burn to death. Have max resistance to viral agents? That unseen siren with the flesh growing on it is going to tick away 2 bars of health anyway. Got a bleed? Hope it doesn't bug out and you end up with a nonstop bleed that even a med kit won't heal.

Speaking of - Medkits are pretty useless. They take too long to use and cost you a ton of inventory space. Just stack up on bandages.

Overall the game is fun. It absolutely has some embarrassingly bad design choices, however, ranging from the way melee will randomly target enemies around you, status effects that bug out and never end, enemies clipping through walls to hit you. Not finding items is fine - that's part of the game. But losing all of your progress after a 2 hour run because of a bug? Absolutely asinine.

Oh well. I'll keep playing it because I'm having fun with it. I'd recommend you pick it up on sale however. This is a game best enjoyed at 50% off.

I was very surprised on how addicted to this game I got. It's more casual than it is difficult, but I like that alot. Of course until you beat the main story, but that's just perfectly fine as it gives replay to the game. There were a couple of odd bugs and glitches in the game such as falling through the map, getting softlocked in certain spots, and worst of all invisible zombies on the last section that ruined many runs for me. However, the enjoyment that came from this game was much more than the negatives that came with it. I 100% the game and recommend this game greatly

It's alright but slightly boring after a while. I am not a fan of timed games generally - I'd like to pick my way through the ruins of civilisation carefully, hoarding things along the way. Trying to rush across a map as fast as possible while your infection timer clocks down just doesn't do it for me.

I enjoy the gameplay and everything but why is there invisible zombies in the game??? As soon I'm so close to beating it, I keep getting attack by NOTHING. You can kill them if your lucky but how can you tell if you don't see the body?? please fix this can't play without worrying about it.

Apart from a few bugs (collision and getting stuck in objects, mostly), a tad of repetitiveness, it´s a very decent and engaging game. Once you learn the ropes, it´s kinda hard to stop playing. Recommended as a fix for any survival zombie game with a roguelite twist.

Elder Wrath

So many bugs, I fully regret buying this.
The game also starts lagging because of the lack of ANY performance improvements, no matter the settings.
I do not recommend.

Edit: I have tried it again, out of mercy, and I have died once again being stun-locked by a charger in a corner not being able to get away. Even a game made by a 10 year old on a kids' platform is more promising than this mixture of game breaking bugs and depression. Uninstalled.

When I first discovered this game, I got really excited. I'm a big fan of the other Last Stand games, especially Union City and Deadzone, back when that was still a thing. As for Aftermath, however, I have absolutely no idea what the game is like, since all I get is a black screen.

It starts fine, and I know it's not a graphics or resolution issue. I've tried un-installing and re-installing multiple times, but to no avail.

If you can get the game to work, I'm sure it's good, but as I've never gotten more than a blank/black screen, I cannot reccomend the game

Absolutely love it, it never gets old every time you enter the world there is always something different. I do see a few bugs with AI spawning, sometimes they spawn in rocks and get stuck there or they get stuck in trees when you turn on a generator. Some times in very particular spots you can vault over a barrier an through walls like in the trailer park, angle yourself to see the vaulting prompt light up and turn yourself to look at a wall next to you (preferably near a doorway). Over all, the story is great and I can see one more game or a host of DLCs that expand what the exiled are doing after getting the cure.

A completely different concept than all other games Con Artist made in the Last Stand series. This one you either love or hate. As a survivor of a comminuty you are infected with an incurable virus that eventually turns you into a zombie, you are send out into the remnants of the world.
It is a fight against time, find loot, try to get through zones, kill zombies, manage your infection, get more loot (or send it back to camp for future runs) and die. Repeat repeat repeat untill you progress more, get better starting options and try to get to the end of all the zones. There is some lore to it, but to be fair I did not come for lore, I came because I enjoyed Con Artist previous games and to slaughter zombies.

The beginning is tough to get into, and it gets a lot easier once you get the hang of it and because you can get better starting equipment, know what to do and how to manage to fight the infection. Eventually I only died to my own stupidity (messing around with explosives and getting too over confident).

I liked this concept, it is a different approach than other titles. I had my portion of fun with it and might pick it up again someday. I hardly ever encountered bugs, I got stuck maybe two or three times in under 40 hours of playtime.

I don't understand why so many people don't like this game for the mechanics. It is a roguelite designed around the timer mechanic. Multiplayer, base building, and the ability to stop and search every single piece of loot are not present, as all 3 of these systems would severely harm the gameplay loop of a roguelite.
There are some bugs, though I've only ever encountered extremely minor ones like enemies falling through the floor only to return to their previous location almost immediately, or enemies spawning outside of the gameplay area.
A solid bit of fun all round though, especially with the modifiers after the completion of the first run, and a great evolution of the franchise. Different enough to feel new, but similar enough that you can recognise the roots from the flash game, even if that mostly comes from union city more than the first two entries.

I bought this game after i played the Legacy Collection. I just couldnt get it to run clean on my PC. It either constantly lagged or it had a dropping Framerate. I also needed to start the game with everything set to the lowest, or i would have had a black screen and my graphic system would get an error. After getting it to run, i needed to put everything back to high(including frame rate 240) so my game stopps lagging like hell. After all of that, it still happens to have a dropping framerate.

I recently revisited this game, and I am outright SHOCKED by how badly it runs. I have a decent PC, a lot of stuff runs fine on it that should be way more intensive than this game. I don't think that this game should be hitting a lower framerate than Apex, you know?

The game isn't bad, it's a fun time killer. But it's really hard to enjoy it as a snack kinda game when it's hanging on the loading screens, getting choppy whenever it rains, and taking a half second to acknowledge button inputs.

Discord Kitten
Discord Kitten

I'm giving this a negative review since there's no mixed option.

The postives of this game make the beginning of it really fun. I enjoyed the roguelite leveling at the base. It felt like I could die around any corner, and if I didn't, then I could get really far in one run. The sound design is good, the level design was nice, and I enjoyed looting and the decision of looting more or trying to race against the timer of the infection. However, the more I played, obviously the more I found that was also a detriment.

Instead of finding power ups in rooms like a typical roguelite, all of the power is behind mutations and the knowledge tree. Supplies do unlock items for you to find and start with, but ultimately do not have as much effect. Starting with a slightly better melee weapon is dwarfed in comparison to 50% melee attack speed, for example. And because all of this power is offloaded into the power up menu, the first 3 zones become tedious after you have most of the tree completed. Instead of becoming more powerful over time, you are powerful from the start so if you make one mistake and die in the last zone, you have to spend time getting back there. I feel like after you complete an area, an upgrade to skip it would have helped, although the other issue is the time in the game.

It took me 10 hours to get to the 4th area, the other 15 is me leaving the game open. The difficulty of the game is all of a sudden instead of your build is poor so you can't continue. This often leads to cheap deaths, and other times you feel invincible. It makes it hard to learn from mistakes because it's as easy as wrong place wrong time. As for the mutations, sacrificing max HP for them becomes meaningless in the late game. Very few of them are desirable, and the whole point of a roguelite to become more powerful during the run is obsolete since you're not going to trade that much max HP for power ups that might or might not help. Other roguelites have ways to get HP back, or other ways to get HP, but this game only has resistance to damage.

I also don't like that the game forces you into story instead of letting you choose to do it or not. It gives you no chance for preparation, and as a result, can result in cheap deaths yet again. And then the next time you do it, you complete it easily because you prepared for it. The story is alright, but honestly I didn't care for it much. The gameplay mattered more for me.

Overall, the game becomes very easy after you upgrade the knowledge tree, and I'd only buy this game on sale. For a roguelite getting consistently to the 4th area after such a short period of time doesn't leave me with high hopes for the end game when I get there. It has a good foundation, but the attempt at trying to make it dark just makes it unfun to play and tedious at best.

Edit: My opinion has changed after completing the campaign, although that's just because I like what happens afterwards. This review's slightly positive now, but I'm leaving the negatives in as a forewarning.

One of the best zombie games out there. I played the flash games from Con Artist as a kid. I saw this title and thought I'd give it a shot.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. Sound design is great (effects, music, ambience). Gameplay is satisfying. Mutations provided randomness which made for some neat experiences. The guns are awesome. Gameplay loop can be frustrating towards end game due to the permadeath and reset. Would be cool if they add DLC that allows you to explore the cure further in some way. Great game, Con Artist!

For someone who played "The Last Stand: Dead Zone" this new game on steam is a disappointment. Yes the graphics are better and more advanced, but you took the best part of the game out. Being able to build your own base and grow with it. Now with this new game we are stuck with playing the same type of characters that basically will always die.
I honestly don't see the point of this game anymore. It was a huge disappointment.
If you were a fan of the previous game, don't get high hopes for this one.
Good thing I got my money back after buying this.

The game was fun when it worked, but now all I get is a black screen when I start. All I want in a game is for it to work.

This is the review of somebody who got 100% in the game

I bought this game as a Last Stand nostalgia. The previous 3 games were fun but nothing special, but this game is awesome! This game is a hidden gem! I don't know why it was not marketed more. If you are like of zombie, or roguelike, or survival games, than this is a buy even at full price. This game is fun!

In the first portion of the game, you are an infected survivor going out of the colony to mark supply location and scout, sadly you will die. Virus that slowly is killing you is an amazing game mechanic. As infection progresses you will get new overpowered abilities, making you want to get infected to some degree, the trade off is your health will decrease as well. You have zombie blocking drug (like Dead Rising)

Exploration is nice. There are plenty of different map types, so it never feels repetitive, and map boundaries are big, so you feel like the map is solid. This game is a roguelike where gathering supplies makes your next start stronger and gathering research makes your character and abilities stronger. Very fun! You have many tactics: stealth approach with quite combat and distraction of enemies(you don't have to kill zombies if you don't want to), crafter approach with making all good things yourself, guns and explosive weapon approach, or a mix of all 3.

Combat is awesome! Guns and gun sounds feel solid, the same goes for melee combat. Sometimes you run out of bullets(especially early game) and weapons and go for good old hand to hand combat. This game has a ton of variety to offer. May be this is why you never feel bored of it.

Graphics and music is solid!

So the first portion of the game is that you buff yourself and do the main quest. The second portion of the game is that you buff zombie and work on the cure (no spoilers here, every zombie game gets a cure). Buffing zombie and successfully completing the run gives you awesome new weapons and other new stuff.

Some negatives. The last boss battle area is a bit buggy. I had a lot of trouble using explosives. Some traps are hard to see (duh, they are traps) But overall there is nothing bad about the game

I strongly recommend to buy this game at full price, and this is hidden gem! This game is addictive and fun!

P.S. as for achievements. Not many difficult achievements. Collecting 25 supply bags will take some time and beating the game 5 times is a bit hard, everything else will come naturally

Most of the key aspects from that game that made it so addictive and gave you a sense of acomplishment are gone now:
You could make a team with characters that had different skills to balance each other. Now you can only choose one character and work with him alone.
If a team member died, he was unavailable the rest of the missión but back in the camp you could have them after a healing period, plus you constantly got new survivors you could replace them with. Now the character dies for good.
You had upgrades for the compound and each member, to increase resources that gave you new skills/tools/weapons/buildings. Now the only way to go back to camp is by dying and your compound won't change at all which feels like starting all over again.
You had waves of zombies from time to time as well as raids from other players (and you could raid them). This is completly gone now.
It's such a big list, I spent hundreds of hours playing when this was on Facebook and it was a huge dissapointment to see all the fun, sense of acomplishment and strategy that made it great being completly ignored for this development.

I think this game overall is pretty good. The environments are interesting enough, the core concept is unique IMO, the sound design isn't bad, most of the weapons feel good without being broken, and the game mechanics seem pretty well thought out for the most part. The game has run smoothly at least for me. There are two main issues I have so far: one is that once you beat an area you still have to redo it from the start, which makes absolutely no sense. It tells you that you can skip certain parts if you have enough fuel, but you will never get enough fuel to skip the blockade at the end which makes it pointless.

Number 2 is that the fat explody guys (bloaters I guess?) and the crawling zombies are hilariously overpowered. The crawling zombies have a leap attack with insane range, are damn near impossible to melee, hard to hit with firearms, and have way too much health for all of that. Fast enemies in most games usually have a low health pool to compensate for their movement, but these guys seem to have more HP than regular zombies which makes absolutely no sense.

The bloaters are just as ridiculous though, if your little toe is in the AOE when they blow up, and you dont have an antiviral proc'd your run is basically over. They build up 3-ish bars of infection which both decreases your HP and the time you have available for the run significantly. I have tried to dodge out of the explosion only to get infected anyway because I was in the blast radius for 2 frames. I get that Con Artist is a 1 dude, but I still have absolutely no idea how he didn't catch any of these issues. They all stood out to me almost immediately within my first few runs, which is a shame because I think the base zombies/tank are pretty well balanced.

I think this game has more good points than bad, and I would still recommend it (if it's on sale) but honestly the flaws listed above really do sour the overall experience and make it not worth its full asking price IMO. I would dislike the restarting tedium less if the 2 enemies I mentioned above were nerfed and/or the dodge roll actually had some i-frames so you don't get screwed constantly, since it only seems to work against regular enemies that you can just kill easily by mashing attack and it would be less of a deal breaker if I didn't have to worry about a 30 min run being DOA because I was in fatty's AOE for 1/10th of a second.

TL;DR: Game good. Fat guy bad, crawl guy bad. starting from start bad. Needs fat guy nerf and more gas. 7/10

I grew up with Flash games, The Last Stand series included so it was safe to say that I was hyped when I saw Aftermath.

Bought it when I bought a better laptop. It's impressive for a game of this quality to be made by two guys.

I'm not really much of a picky person. It's a bit rough around the edges. Bugs and all. But power through them and what you have is a fun roguelike.

Some hate it because it's just doing the same thing over and over again. So are most games.

Gameplay wise, it's fun. Combat is good.

Stability wise, my framerate never dropped below 60, so that's good.

Overall, I'd recommend it. If you're not sure, wait for an offer.

I was hoping for a DEAD NATION type of game since i love twin stick shooters.

What i got?
A very boring slow paste search area move to the next section... Rinse and Repeat type of game. You move to an Area, search for the same supplies over and over again cuz your car just keeps getting out of fuel and then move to the next area. You dont even drive the car or see the traveling. It doesnt feel like you are going anywhere.

Unlike DEAD NATION this game has 0 voice over, 0 dialogue, 0 narrators. The combat is very slow. The crafting is very intuitive. In Dead Nation you can actually see that you are walking down the city and moving to new places as you fight the zombies. This game looks the same no matter where you go.

I do not recommend this game, dont waste your money or maybe waste it on a SALE, i can guarantee you wont play this game again after your first day with it.

Generally not a fan of roguelike 3rd person action games, but the way they implement the death/mutation system makes the life cycle interesting and new. Sometimes you are able to get mutations to synergize really well and become really strong toward the end of your characters life and each zone is small enough with interesting points to keep each exploration fresh without getting tiresome.

Darckshado99

Quick Tip. if your looking to buy this game, don't expect a Last stand 1 or 2, or even a Union City. This game is probably most similar to a mix of FTL and Hades in its game play loop. Its definitely fun, but its not just more of the same.

The loop goes like this

1)Start with basic set-up, and maybe get a few extras for your run.
2) go from spot to spot collecting loot for this run and your next one.
3) Try to make it as far as you can, often with a complete run taking from 1-2 hours.
4) die, and make your survivors better, and give them better loot to find.

The meta-progression does work really well, with your first few runs making you treat your bullets like their more precious than your health-pool, and even now 10 hours in, I've started getting access to assault rifles and LMGs. Often you'll be given a choice of making your current run last longer with more ammo or med-kits, or sending it back to help unlock new guns when you inevitably die.

While there is a stealth system, don't expect to ever use it. You have a built in timer on you in your infection. outside of a few fairly rare items, your gonna be outrunning your infection more often than you will zombies.

Most of the Negative comments seem to have issues with bugs or issues, but I've yet to encounter any.

Overall, if your interested in the that game play loop I mentioned, I'd say its worthwhile for you to buy and see if you enjoy.

Take the original Fallout, give it modern(ish) graphics, stir in a generous dollop of The Last Of Us, and mold it around a fairly rudimentary-yet-thought-provoking storyline, and that's Last Stand: Aftermath. Such a fun game! I play a lot of indie post-apoc survival games, and this probably has to be one of the most enjoyable that I've experienced in a long time. Lots of replayability. I poured over a hundred hours into it before I finished the endgame content, and I could keep playing but I sort of feel like I've done enough, for now. But, the gameplay is easy enough that I could jump back in with minimal concerns about forgetting the controls, unlike so many games these days. Nice and easy, good prompts, and don't let that warning about playing with a controller put you off - it plays just fine on keyboard and mouse as well.

Positive Feedback:
1. I LOVED the weather engine they built for this game. The rain... omg. Amazing. I'm a pluviophile at heart, and they did a great job of replicating stormy weather.
2. Graphics aren't fancy, but you know what? They do the trick. Sometimes you don't neeed super-lush ultra-realistic graphics to have a good time. LS:A strikes a good balance there.
3. Nice variety of volunteers to choose from. Lots of diversity without it feeling forced. Good balance there, too.
4. Great map design. Maps are Goldilocks-sized - not too big, not too small, just right. The map design is semi-randomised in a way that I found really enjoyable. The basic layout of different maps was usually fairly similar, but with subtle differences that made each run feel unique and exciting. I never got lost, but I also never got bored. Really well done.
5. Music set a good atmosphere without being overwhelming.
6. Storyline is kind of rudimentary, but I found it compelling regardless. I spent a lot of time just thinking what I would do in their situation, and I always mourned a little bit when one of my volunteers met her untimely yet inevitable end. I would have liked a bit more story or maybe a more concrete ending, but the current ending does work with the style of game.

Negative/Constructive Feedback:
1. I would like to see the developers add a script that ensures that there is always at least one male and one female volunteer available per run. I prefer to play a female character, and I noticed on half-a-dozen occasions that I was only given male options to choose from. But, the same never happened in reverse. It would be nice if there was always at least one of each available. Maybe not super realistic, but inclusive.
2. I would like to see the developers add a better way to set off mines if you spot them before you trigger tham. The first time I saw a mine, I automatically threw a brick at it because that's what you'd do in every other game I've ever played, and I was surprised that it didn't work. I feel like being able to set them off with any kind of throwable would be nice.
3. I feel like the stashes need tweaking. The way they currently work, they're a pain to access so I hardly used them. I think it would be better if they were always available on either the first or last map of each region, since you have to stop there anyway. That would make them way more useful.
4. Alternately... we're driving a car, and they always send someone out to pick the car up. Get rid of the stashes, and give the car a usable trunk! That would be freaking awesome! Let us pop in 50-100kg worth of junk we want to pass over to the next volunteer. It would be a good balance, since you can't use anything that's in the trunk, but it would let you drop stuff in there you don't need until the endgame instead of lugging it around all the time. I say reduce the drop rate of health and food supplies significantly, and add a trunk as a mobile stash instead.
5. I hate to say it because the team obviously spent a lot of time working on it, but... crafting is kinda pointless at the moment. Herbalism, doubly so. The drop rate of health supplies is so high that even during the endgame with the maximum hardship modifiers applied, I was still literally throwing away more bandages and med kits than I used. I never used herbalism, period. I only used the herbs to trade with the travelling merchant. The only things I crafted were the odd melee weapon, a silencer for my pistol very early in the run, and any batteries I got the supplies for. I would like to see crafting become more useful, though. Like, maybe give us the ability to apply stacking upgrades to our weapons? Or repair damaged melee weapons? Oh man that would be great, I was always so bummed when my favourite TAC blade broke and I had to go to a stupid combat knife for a while. Or maybe add some kind of crafting-driving armour mechanic? Could be fun!
6. I recommend removing the warning that the game is best played on a controller. As a stalwart keyboard-and-mouse player, that almost stopped me from buying the game. It plays great on keyboard and mouse, so I feel like you're doing your game a disservice and discouraging potential players with that message.
7. At the time of writing, there is a bug on some of the Hell maps that is kind of annoying. Not game-breaking, but I thought you should know. Some of the military base maps have a little guardhouse near the entrance that is up a couple of stairs, usually with a couple of loot boxes inside. I think there's some kind of invisible wall blocking the stairs, because I could not get up them no matter how hard I tried.
8. It would be nice if you could skip Hell maps after you've finished the main storyline, like you can the other areas.

Overall: Highly recommended. A++.

Dense and intense gameplay that interspaces planning and resource management. No part of the game is overbearing or oppressive, but there are a lot of small quirks and micro-challenges to a variety of skillsets at all times.

There are some small quirky issues like zombies randomly vanishing/teleporting, or buildings in the sunken city sector being far too opaque and completely blocking the camera despite the character being clearly able to see the area. Learning how to control the aiming can be strange at first, but not too bad after some practice.

Pretty good experience overall.

tl;dr: The game itself if pretty good but it has some issues and every issue associated with a rougelike. If you don't like replaying the same thing over and over/roguelikes, better skip it.

You can tell there has been a lot of love and care gone into this project and it feels and runs like a proper title, not just an indie project. However there are some glaring issues strongly affecting the enjoyability. The first and most important one is the prevalence of RNG. Your character can keep one extra dose of antidote at hand to keep your infection at bay (basically this game's take on a hunger meter to push you along). Now you can have a map with like 3 syringes and then not see one for the rest of the game. You can target specific locations for guaranteed spawns, but these require secondary resources to collect. Once you unlock all the areas this becomes less of an issue, but it's still slightly annoying how much they're tied to the RNG.
Next one is fuel. Many maps may not even have fuel, so a winning strategy seems to make sure you "accidentally" run out of fuel between maps that forces you on a tiny map with seemingly forced fuel spawns. This way you save your time and nerves. Otherwise you may spend like 20 minutes on a huge map fighting hundreds of zombies with nothing to show for it.
There are some annoying enemies that you are forced to take on in close quarters at times which is pure bs, but mostly doable. However a lot of the time there are forced story locations that you must complete and are full of these and they will absolutely dry up any and all of your stockpiled ammo and supplies.
The last point alone wouldn't be so bad on its own, but together with 2 other aspects it makes this game almost impossible to play unless you live in a basement. There are a bunch of traps across all of the maps and especially on the forced story maps. These traps can often one shot you. And they're not too easy to spot. They are nearly impossible to spot when the game goes into night-time. Never mind the traps, it's quite literally impossible to see anything on the screen during the night and there's no gamma correction option. Sure it looks moody when you play at night, but if you happen to have windows, you might as well play blindfolded.
All of these annoying aspects wouldn't be that bad for a single player game where you can save and restart. But for a roguelike where you must restart the whole thing over again after dying for the third time just before the end because of some dumb reason isn't for everyone.
Recommended because in itself the game is good and delivers on it's promises, just have to deal with some of these infuriating aspects.

I was told by a friend i would enjoy this. In short the game is extremely fun but can be very unforgiving if you make mistakes, the weapons feel punchy, and while i'm not the best, the difficulty has a feeling of just being hard enough to make you consider either fighting or avoiding conflict, while the mutations allow you to play a higher risk but more rewarding style. Its a departure from the original games, and Union City, but i think it holds itself well

This game is amazing. I have played the flash player of The Last stand and always a fan of this franchise.
They have completely merged all 3 franchises into one. All the mechanics on the 3 games were all in this one game. Such an amazing game.

Great rogue-lite game and brings back a lot of nostalgia from previous 'The Last Stand' games. So much replayability in this game and a good story too.

I don't often use hyperbole but this may be the perfect zombie game. It's the perfect blend of survival, rogue-lite, stealth, and crafting mechanics with none of the games-as-a-service crap or micro-transactions.

Expect to die, often, but don't let that discourage you. With each run, accumulate experience, knowledge, and supplies that make each subsequent run easier. The game map is randomized each play-through so expect a lot of replay value.

And don't let the two man studio behind this fool you; everything from the combat, sound design, environment, mechanics, progression, etc. is incredibly polished and well done.

Wow this game is quite a bit better than i had expected. I still haven't beaten it but i believe i'm getting close. The one mechanic i was not a fan of at the beginning was the timer with the virus, I eventually ended up being ok with it. but the fact that the virus progresses over time is quite annoying or the fact that i can only carry 1 antivirus at a time, im not a fan.

However this game is fantastic overall the upgrades all seem useful and each run is unique due to the procedural generation. Absolutely give this game a try.

The game, before becoming such a pearl as it is, it was founded by a idea that became more than it seemed to be, i love this game, i gave it a break so it wouldn't get so repetitive, but overall, it's one of the best Roguelike Zombies game i have ever seen, the RNG for each playthrough make it feel fresher, the progress made open more and more stuff to be done.
This game did what the first The Walking Dead Game (Not The Telltale one) tried to achieve
as well as it was given more life, more variables, familiar tastes, such as the mutated zombies around the world (we all know where they come from lol)

If you like a game to pass time, with loads of stuff to be done and a long road to be riden, this is the game for you, i recommend it 100%, i loved the flash games as well, they're still great as always

Conartist went a long way, and i wish more to come.

I found this game amazing. So much so that I went back and played the old ones. It is not too difficult, but not easy either. The progression is nice and varied - lots of perks and options to take. It is pretty balanced too - you do not have completely shitty runs. Something will go your way every time. And if you die - well, there`s no shortage of yous peoples. Some strategy is in order too, which makes it a nice challenge. And when you win - you will be in for the surprise from the previous games :) In any case, as far as roguelikes go - thumbs up for this one.

So something for everyone to note, if you haven't already seen, this is a roguelite. I for one am the type of player to do something once and give up. This kind of playing for me costed me to lose out on games like NieR where you literally have to play the game 3 or 4 times to enjoy the whole story. I hate doing the same exact grinding even if I can improve.

This game, though, definitely helped me ease out of that comfort zone. The story line is very niche and cliche at the same time, but the game play is quite enjoyable in my opinion. It gives you a preset time to live that you can stave off by using the inhibitors, but you will eventually die.

Unfortunately bugs still exist, but they are more of an annoyance. Because you cannot move the camera you are limited in directional movement which is probably why the devs say to play on controller because they might have been too lazy to fix that or just didn't want to? Either way, entering some buildings with very narrow doors is literally almost impossible with WASD. You also cannot walk up stairs, like are you kidding me? THEY ARE STAIRS! STAIRS!!!! The most ANNOYING bug is that some zombies literally are invisible. You will die from nothing because there was an invisible little bitch hitting you and you never could see them. You could only see them if you make them run over foliage as that at least still responds to the zombie models as they walk over them. Also stuttering here and there. I didn't have stuttering at first but my 6th or so run the stuttering started to come out of no where at the beginning of every run.

It needs work but I enjoy it. I'd like to see some more content and I'd even pay a little bit for it in DLC, nothing more than $10 though, so long that it adds a considerable amount of new content.

Feel like I've played enough to leave an impression. I like it. Rather a lot honestly. The only real complaint I can levy is that "it's a little repetitive" - but so is life. Every single day we eat, sleep, shit, etc. It's a fun blend of several zombie games, including their own flash games. It has the general structure of Death Road to Canada: Get out of the car, kill and loot, get back into the car, select a new area, worry about gas all the time. It actually plays very similarly to dead nation with isometric view and realistic style graphics. It has the special infected of L4D2 - 3 versions of them anyway, plus a couple unique to itself. It has a fun multi tiered roguelike upgrade system. Most importantly it lets you fail based on your own poor decisions. I had a great run going the other night, fully prepared...literally in the last area. But my encumbrance was higher than I wanted it to be. So I threw grenades. Into a door. Which exploded and killed me. Next time I will just throw them away instead of attempting to use them in a nonideal situation. Lesson learned. 100% enjoying my time with it, the antivirus timer vs infection perks is a neat risk reward system that provides a sense of urgency.

If you want to completely forget about anything else and just loot and shoot the heck out of randomly generated stuff, with the challenge level right below the "I give up", then this is your game. I don't remember the last time I was this sucked in, it's almost embarassing.
One advice I will give you is to check out different tabs of perks you purchase in exchange for knowledge. Played all this time thinking there's just the first tab... Would've been better otherwise!

Really well done! What a fantastic series of games! What a beautiful arc of progress to have witnessed from Con Artist Games. The power of dedication and passion. To go from The Last Stand 1 and 2 which for its time were great flash games. To Union City which was a leap and an all time best on ArmorGames. To Aftermath which just blew me away.
The scale of the game is massive. The amount of detail that went into designing the areas is tremendous.
The gameplay was unique and true to life, if you think about it; a single person could not survive such a gauntlet, but a culmination of people willing to put down their life in pursuit of the greater good, that's inspiring.
And never lost touch with the original games, still managed to incorporate that walled off defensive gameplay with the HERC outposts. Fantastic!
I will be looking forward to Con Artist Games next project.

To start out, i tend to enjoy zombie shooters. I didnt expect to enjoy this game as much as i have. It has become one of my favorite games to play in the afternoons when you just want to unwind and have some simple fun.

Highlights:

Progression System-
I really enjoy how they implemented the progression system in this game. You start with a random character, and the understanding that you are going to die. As your infection gets more dire, you lose your max HP in exchange for perks. You eventually die and then start at the beginning all over again. The great part about this is, you dont ever take a single playthrough too seriously. As you play, every single map, you gain XP and other items that you get to keep even through death. You become stronger every run through. It takes a while to max everything, but you see the results quickly. It adds a lot of replay value to a game that otherwise wouldnt have much.

Item unlocks -
At the beginning of each playthrough, you have the ability to use those hard earned points to "add" items to the game that werent there your last playthrough. Its always exciting to see what you get to unlock as you level up, and even more exciting the first time you find said item in the world. This also adds a lot of replay value in my opinion.

Game map randomization-
Each playthrough, you get to somewhat pick what path you want to take. This allows you to either find better items, more zombies, or just sneak by if you are trying to get to those higher levels. Since the POI's are random each playthrough, it makes each run feel a little unique, even if the actual POI's are somewhat repetitive.

Variety of gameplay-
Another thing i didnt expect from this game, were all the different ways it could be played. After a few rounds and some leveling up, you can play in a few very different ways. You can be a melee character and chop down anything that dares to oppose you, you can be a shooter and stick to your boom sticks, or you can choose to be stealthy using the pretty decent selection of distraction items available to you. They even included dedicated hiding places like dumpsters and tall grasses. The best part of this is, you can do all of this in one playthrough, whenever you like. No picking skill trees that lock you in one branch. Just pick up an item and get to killing.

There are lots of other things i enjoy, like the zombie varients, light storyline, graphics, etc but these are what really set the game apart for me. Highly recommend it to anyone. Its time to make your last stand.

I've played Every Installment of The TLS series, from back in Middle school when I found the first one, I fell in love with the series quickly. This game combines things from every single installment from the looting and larger maps like Dead zone, the RPG like inventory and xp system from Union City, it even has many area where you can "Make a Last Stand" against random hordes of Zombies. All in All this was a very worth it investment and I recommend it to anyone who enjoy previous installments or people love a good roguelike.

I FRACKING love it. I didn't know what to expect when coming into a birds-eye-view game, but this game... surprisingly... is addicting... or at least on your first go. I came to this game because I am a huge fan of the original Last Stand series: a game from my childhood. One day, I read that this was being released soon, and thought I should give it a try. Still wish they would finish out all of the extras on Union City. On with this game

It has a unique premise where you don't continuously build up your loot, unlike other games where you have the one character all game. Every time your character dies, you're dealt a new volunteer to go explore the areas looking for supplies. You get a new starting loadout and have to venture again to reacquire yourself an armoury, but each time you die, you get another chance to push through it better and more efficiently and learn from the mistakes of your past dead volunteers. It can be frustrating, especially if you have good loot, but it's a unique frustration of gaming. Despite having to use new volunteers every death, you still get to keep your overall experiences like recipes learned, upgrades bought, and permanent supplies acquired.

If you're a fan of the zombie franchise and don't mind a birds-eye-view or maybe just liked the Last Stand series, well they did well on union city and they did even better here. Check it out

I like this game a LOT. Its very impressive.
I like that its a PC game with very tight gamepad controls. I like the combat. its runs smooth at 144 frames at 1440p on my RTX3080. I like the survival mechanics. I like the rogue elements. I like it strikes just the right balance of challenge. I love the setting and the top down perspective. I thought I wasnt going to like having to deal with the infection mechanic, but that grew on me as well as I started to understand why they put it in the game and it works in the sense of the games world and lore.
Ive been wishing for a game like this for a while and to actually find it randomly while browsing steams library of games is a stroke of luck finding it.

Most mutations are super lame and don't really help with the huge disadvantage of permanent hp loss, loadouts don't really help either since by the time you leave the first area you'll have all the weapons you'll ever need. Also, the fuel and antiviral caps are a pain in the ass and don't make sense, there should be a better way of making it difficult to manage fuel and antivirals

I've gotten 9 hours in. Personally, for me, this is some of the most fun I've had in a long, long time. Rougelikes have always been my jam, and my origin in video game playing coming from rapidly clicking at zombies in flash, this was EXACTLY what I needed. IMO, besides minor bugfixing, nail on the head and I am going to pound out more and more playing.

The game is pretty mediocre, it is a survival game but you are guaranteed to die which is a concept im not a big fan of. You also basically go through every level finding gas then move on to the next level, rinse and repeat. But that's just the gameplay, it is also pretty glitchy and it kinda ruins the experience.
It is not worth the money

OMG! it too me so long to finally clear the wall and I thought it was the end. Then over the "wall" it's a whole new area to explore. definitely recommend the price and the game. Thou I wish the antiviral ( that is so hard to come by depending on the "dice rolled", should clear off 1 bar or tiny amount of the infection, that way it make the batteries and finding the antiviral worthwhile. )

Worth playing.

inubasket

Wtf is this. This a shell of their former games.

Even rating it as a stand-alone game, it's not great. There's no story, hardly any lore to be found. There's no end goal. Nothing is explained to you. The inventory screen is a joke-- there's no clear definition on how to equip/repair/etc. Never tells you how to throw anything, or that there's a way to execute stunned enemies (had to find out all of that stuff by looking at their key bindings, and through google). You can't save-- there's only autosave. There's only a few craftable items, mostly to make healing items or new melee weapons, but honestly, what's the point? The premise of the game is to play for a few minutes, die, get a new "infected volunteer", repeat. That's it. Not even a story to go with it. It's a game of just grinding for nothing.

Combat is eh. Your character gets turned around a lot which can result in your death pretty quick, because there's no way to rotate the screen to fight or explore properly. Guns are basically a cheat code. A lot of stuff is hidden (again, can't rotate your field of view at all), so looting is a chore. And again, feels pointless, because you're gonna die and then continue with a new character soon anyway.

The entire time I played this game, my only thought was "Why am I playing this?". And after about 1.5 hours I finally couldn't justify it anymore. It's a bad game. Wouldn't recommend.

Ph0bia

Awesome game! Each run you do in this game feels unique and challenging in its own way. Leveling system so far doesn't feel like its unbalanced so it keeps you coming back so you can unlock more benefits with each character. I am also very impressed with the current state of the game as I have yet to have it crash on me and I've only seen a few bugs with the zombies spawning on top of something or right on the map edge so they get stuck, neither of which are a big deal and don't take away from the enjoyment of the game. I also have to mention that even after 13 hours and several runs through the first two sections of the game I continue to see different areas/layouts rather than feel like I'm just having to push through the same levels over and over again.
