Buy this game for the following reasons.

1. It is turn based.
2. It has extensive customization for difficulty.
3. It his progression, via skills, money, reputation.
4. You can play sandbox style (forever) by preventing your char from aging and dying.
5. The battles are tactical with "Jagged Alliance" style attacks of opportunity.
6. You can play with only monsters, monsters and a human, almost all humans in selected battles.
7. It has event which happen monthly including satisfying Contests with huge gold payouts and or Loot.
8. It never feels like the game is cheating.
9. The graphics or "good enough" for the level of gameplay provided.
10. It has many ways to modify or influence your monster's development, magic stones, potions, scrolls.
11. It has building progression, and you can upate your locations in a huge varity of ways. (if u gotz teh gold).
12. (no political nonsense of any kind).
13. It is singleplayer no online connections required, (minus the STEAM drm of course :) ).
14. It is STILL early access (as of 01/25/24), and he listens to the community!!!!! Let me explain.

There could be others, but I hate walls of text.

I love it so far. its fun!! And its just starting out, can't wait to see what they add and in the coming yr(s). it's just starting out but, sweet. so far no bug/ crashs as of yet. Try it, again it's just early , and the road map has alot lot more they are going to do with this game. Read the games road map on steam game page. But I love it so far and can't wait to see them add more and finish it up more. Peace.

This is the blend of creature collector and gladiator training game I didn't know I wanted until I came across it. The systems are deep and interesting. It's got some very satisfying crunch and i am quite looking forward to digging into all the various crafting, training, and monster breeding it has to offer up.

Completely fantastic game. There is a ton of depth in this game with the breeding mechanics and it is so much fun to play. The turn-based strategy part of it is passable but I really got sucked in trying to make the best monsters.

The main improvements to the way the game plays needs to be in grouping of monsters that have fully grown. Currently there is no way to change the way your monsters show up on your list so if you have an older monster that you want to keep but dont use it shows up first in the combat selection list. You should be able to change the way that list shows up and group monsters together. I would make a "leveling" group and a "max level only for breeding" group. With both of those setup you can keep track of what you are trying to do better in the combat selection list.

Another good QOL improvement is to list what monsters are the parent of an egg/hatchling. As it stands you have to rename the eggs/monsters as soon as spawn as eggs to try to keep track of what stats/abilities you are aiming for on them. Not a huge problem at the start but when you end up having 20+ babys at a time it starts to get hard to pick the correct stat boosts for each one.

Then ofc as everyone has said the graphics are kinda lame. IMO a solid graphics asset pack for the world generation would be a big improvement. I expect improvements for the monsters would be very hard to do due to the way the monsters breed and merge into new things.

Quests and such could use some work. It dosent really feel like we are working twards much right now and I expect that is because the quests are very basic. If we could get some direction from quests I think it would feel much better. Example is some quest we get fairly early (lvl locked) that is very hard to do until you are 2nd or 3rd generation and then it unlocks other quests that are difficult but not impossible.

Side note, maybe add a game mode that prevents save cheesing. As it stands now I just save before every battle so if my op monsters die I just re load. Something like an autosave only mode where you have to take the results from every battle and cant load a previous save.

A small tip for anyone, breeding boost pillar is your friend. Free extra offspring is just an extra roll at max stats for a badass new stud or base.

Really is an amazing game created here.

Good game. Got some good stuff here.
reminds me of Breed/Trans games of old...when you get a feeling from making new creatures.

good guts in the game, almost feels like there is an unbelievable game hidden inside the core game, which is great.

UI and doing the level up dances and such, might make you frown. Gotta love sending your hard work into battle.

here are some things id like to see in the future. i have played for a bit and its a great idea and the bones of a great game is there.the models are less the issue if more genetics are added in. also id like to see a huge genetic chart so i have an idea of what to cross. id also like to see the addition of allowing hybrids to breed by making some not be infertile and also make inbreeding a feature mammals being the worst effected reptiles less and insects barely affected a few more subspecies and late game hybrid animals would be amazing. final feature id like to see would be some AI players on the map that have their own creatures so you can fight the pokemon trainer style"but more violent"

So, the graphics are bad, however, I understand the creator does want to work on this at some point. Otherwise, the game mostly realizes its concept quite well, as each of its systems are well executed enough to actually make the concept of breeding monsters for gladiator fights, well, work, which is saying a lot.

Really enjoyable, struggled at first and slowly got better with each play through. Essentially started creating stronger bear creatures. Loads more to explore as I haven't even started looking into insects or reptiles as well as the other mammals you can use but actually really fun.

tony.parish
tony.parish

Graphics let the game down drastically, it looks poor and feels clunky. However what it lacks in visual appeal, it more than makes up for, in game play. As the title suggests the objective is to purchase different monsters and cross breed with the hope, the offspring will inherit desirable traits making stronger monster for the arena. Having the ability to enhance abilities while the animals are growing up is a nice touch which gives lots of possible outcomes. Keeping your stock healthy requires vigilance as animals can soon become ill, if the temperature or humidity isn't right for them. Both of which change slowly with the seasons.
But there is real joy when an egg hatches and the newborn has all the desired traits you wanted. Real disappointed when you watch something you've raised as one of your own die in the arena. Money management, base building, turn base strategy it has a little bit of everything and personally despite the look of it I've really enjoyed playing it.

This game is amazing. Such a good fun game. Yes it has some jank to it. But that is part of the charm. The dev is nice and very active to answer question and talk about updates in the discord. Probably one of my favorite games ever. I always come back to it

I've only owned this game about a week now, but it has already became a favorite of mine. There's so many options and so much to do. If I could add one thing it would be to able to train my units against each-other in some sort of practice mode, like in Domina.

This is not an easy game, it involves a lot of micromanagement and is somewhat grindy too. But it's also quite unique.

To get you started, I recommend the following:

1. start in the north and a get a snow bear
- If there's no snow bear for sale, start over.
- you can also start a the center but chances for snow bear are lower
- ideally get a female and a male snow bear

2. stick to carnivores or even just to snow bears when breeding

3. Choose an alchemist as your character
- take the hate-slaves, bad with apparentices and bad with poison negative traits
- reduce intelligence to the minimum of 5 points
- put all points in the alchemy skill

4. hire the 2 best warriors and an archer
- buy them the least crappy weapons
- get shield and cheap leather armor
- win the first battle with these to get started
- forget about the warriors and focus on your snow bears

The reason for starting that way is, that you can be either a crappy human fighter, a smith that makes gear for humans in game that's centered arround monster breeding OR you get an elite alchemist right from start who can make actually potions for breeding. The snow bear is one of the two monsters that have an AoE attack but his attack never misses. Also the other monster with an AoE, a dinosaur is mostly too scared to actually use it and likes to run away often. Carnivores in general are the easiest to work with because they can easily be tamed and also have the most trainable skills. Also the are quite tolerant in terms of weather conditions.

What a game! Simply the best breeding game out there. It's so fun waiting for your eggs and newborns and watch what they bring with them. I love the look of this natural born freaks. I mean natural... may not be the best term for them, hehe.
I can't wait for the day of the full relaunch, because then you'll finally be able to crossbreed the carnivores, reptiles and insects! That will be fantastic, i guess. But already in this early access state it's so much to do and discover. But yeah, its just the prologue. According to the developement so far, i am sure there will be much more to breed, fight, collect then it already is.
Finally a monster breeding game with an adult setting, i really enjoy everything so far.
Big big recommendation for all you breeders out there, get it when you interested in games like this!

If you enjoy creature collector's get this game. It is rough around the edges, the models are an ugly kind of cute, but it is incredibly in-depth. There are several QoL features that would be nice to have, but from the way it looks, the developer is still working on the game, so I am hopeful they get included.

Can't believe a game literally based around breeding monsters isn't being acknowledged by that many people. The game in its current state might not have much to offer, like not having that many species, not being able to crossbreed different classes, and not having anything to spend with your surplus of money late-game, but just for the concept of breeding monsters itself makes this game definitely worth checking out.

A game of my dreams come true. Amazingly fun, entertaining and challenging. I get to live out my dream of being a wild scientist who crossbreeds species to get the perfect monsters. So much potential in such a unique package. Graphic style might not be for everyone, but it quickly grew on me and I love it.
A lot of monsters I managed to make are an epitome of the "It's so ugly, I love it!" meme, and I couldn't be happier to be able to show the world my abominations in the eyes of God

It's a gamble as to how the game will look once it leaves early access.

Right now it's rough, and I mean ROUGH, around the edges.

But there's a very solid foundation to be built upon, and the dev has stuck around for almost two years now, so I hope this means we will get to see it all come to fruition.

I cautiously recommend this game if you really enjoy breeding games (not that kind of breeding game, the child-friendly kind) and/or turn-based strategy RPG's.

I don't ever leave a review for a game but I have to for this one. This game is one of those gems you look for in the store. Yes, the graphics are not good, but that doesn't matter because the core gameplay is amazing. I can already see the replayability to this game in my first run. I'm making all the beginner mistakes and still loving it. If you have any interest in gladiator/monster simulators, you should get this game and support this developer so he can keep adding more to it.

Review update after 'beating' the game.(or atleast the EA) Honestly? Its amazing. I am addicted to this bare bones shoddy looking genetics breeder. A game like this DOES NOT EXIST in this day and age. Atleast not to this degree. Which is a shame! I've been wanting a game like this for literal AGES! Theres been plenty of monster breeders, but none as indepth and good as this one. There are literally countless combinations for you to create even with the somewhat limited roster of monsters. Monsters gain the appearance of the gene you're trying to get. If you want a dino with spiny skin? They will have spikes on them jutting out to represent that. etc. Unfortunate that you can't crossbreed egg groups(in EA(, but thats not too much of an issue. Though it is a bit of a disappointment when Insectoids seem to have the BEST genetics but are super weak with extremely low life (unless you breed that out of them). But this game is amazing. Definitely do NOT skip out on this one if you've played and fell in love with games like Critter Forge in the past.

Something I'd like to see in the full release: a generations system to denote breeding generations (though its easy enough to do it yourself)

Also I dont think lowtier crossbreeding potions should cause harmful effects, especially when you start with one. Inbreeding definitely should though.

There also needs to be a leatherworker to make leather gear.

Damn I love this game. Just 'finished' it, even though you can continue on, and well. I made an army of regenerative fire breathing dragons. And im still playing. I want to develop them further.

The Rogue Druids quest seems nearly impossible. Which is a shame, the Staff of Fear seems really strong. But given how early the quest appears, you wont have the strongest team. And seeing as it never reappears(or I dont think it does) thats your only opportunity to get that unique weapon.(Unless its made that way as a sacrificial quest, in which case its actually genius.)

How do I already have basically 100 hours in this game? Where did my week go? The first day I played this I saw it on a Splattercat video and thought, "That looks cool!" Then after playing for a while I thought, "Hey the sun is coming up." Then after a what surely couldn't have been that many turns I thought, "Oh the sun is going down again..." Maybe it was more turns that I thought.

I'm really hyped for the full release and the new creature models the dev has posted. There are a few things that need polish, but the dev has shown commitment to the task. The quests are mainly barriers to the next stage of monster development and can likely be beyond your strength the first time you encounter them. Remember the game is a slow burn and events happen every year (12 turns). Your character starts at age 18 and you won't get game over unless you go bankrupt or die of old age (or monster bite)... so there is plenty of time to grow. The core of growing your power and refining your perfect monster line and human warriors in order to take on ever more difficult arena games is fantastic and addicting.

Great game that's made by one person if I heard right. It has that small game feel but you can tell the developer has put a ton of work into it and it's very enjoyable. You will defiantly get your moneys worth with this one.

So what you get is basically farm for raising monsters and training mercenarys. Everything cost so much a day like the food and the upkeep and you can even get slaves....think they cost a bit of cash as well. But you can chop them up and feed them to your monster so that also works. You then go to the market buy some monsters and maybe a mercenary and then you run off to the arenas or catacombs and fight to earn money and experience to invest skill points into your monsters. After a little bit you can decide to breed your monsters and start combining their abilities and cross breed them to make them pretty funky versions.....Some times those versions don't work out tho but heck just breed some more. Can even harvest your own mobs and remove their benefits and give it to another mob at a cost of course.

The game inst perfect tho its really the environment tho that is troublesome and I think the taming mobs needs a bit of work. The environment is the problem because you have so little control over it. You need to upgrade the monster house and monster lab or w.e to the last level this is kinda annoying because it just feels like a big game lock. I think it would have been better to give you away to control it but at maybe more of a cost till you get to higher lvls and can upgrade your stuff. The taming is basically the same you need to wait to craft taming potions or buy them at the rare market or else you can't fight with them in a good amount of the arena matchs. I think having events or something to boost tame lvl would be the way to go. But overall this game is looking great and I encourge others with even a slight interest give it a shot. Its well worth the cost and a developer this good should get some love.

Very Fun and Addicting. Can beat it in about 10 hours on medium difficulty. BTW if you are breeding monsters make sure to use the COPY and PASTE settings on them. I went nearly 7 hours without seeing it and i wasted so much time. Looking forward to more updates!

Nastoligic reminds me a little of Jade Cocoon from ps1. I don't review much, but this game hits a ton of the right notes for me. A monster sim with some genetics and hardcore- often brutal consequences for failure. 20 hours in and I lost my best creature to a simple mistake. 500/10 highly recommend it and can't wait to see what's next!

Alpha Automatron

It's a soft recommend.

Pros:
- If you love genetics and mixing monsters, it's fun and intuitive. I love sim games of breeding / evolving monsters, and this really scratches that itch for me. And the monster concepts are great fantasy.
- The tactical combat is great. It's methodical and challenges you to match your skills. Most of the depth is in placement and carefully managing your energy and attacks and it works well.

Cons:
- The ability explanations are awful. I don't know what any magic does. Another example: pack attack, all attack at once. Sounds great? No, they do less damage and waste their AP and its automatic but it doesn't mention that part.
- There's no record whatsoever of past breeding attempts, family trees, etc. The only option is to write it down separately which is ridiculous.
- Lots of people mention the graphics, and they are pretty rough. But it doesn't bother me much I like my janky monsters.

DarkRhiannon

this game looks very retro in some senses. very...oh early 2000s (you might not think that's retro but it was 20yrs ago) i didn't have my hopes up for it. then i tried the demo. the combat forces you to plan and think. you fudge up in a battle and die, your game is over. frustrating but oddly addicting. i wasn't mad when my first character died, was more 'well drat' because i had finally started to gain ground with some speed.

SniperSmithy

It's fantastic. It's also one of the most original games I've played in years, not just in the genre but in gaming as a whole. I cannot recommend this enough to fans of turn based combat, or monster collecting type games. It's like a grown up version of Monster Rancher crossed with Gladius from the PS2.

Can't wait to see this game grow, it's got some great potential with all the systems and mechanics already in place. Really love the concept of the game. still trying to figure out the money management aspect. unless i pick the class that gives me money every turn i seem to soft lock myself pretty quickly. its probably just the way i'm playing the game or haven't figured out how to do it, but maybe other ways to earn some passive income besides battles and trade.

This is a refreshing take on Monster Breeder/Monster Collection genres, in my humble opinion.

In this game, you can literally play Frankenstein and create some fascinating freaks of nature. Or, if you really want to, you can solely focus on training the humans--employed and enslaved. Or both. Take your pick. Its a turn-management game, so you can take your time. There's a lot of depth with what you can do.

My only negatives at the moment are that it can be a bit daunting to get used to at first, and the UI can occasionally be rough around the edges.

The dev is constantly working to improve the game, and he wants to have much better models for the creatures since he personally is not happy with them.

Absolutely awesome love the whole concept been waiting for something like this for ever!!!! The game is bloody impressive considering it's such a small developer. Saw this being played by splatter cat on YouTube, and bought it ten minutes later. After playing it for a few days, I'm definitely not disappointed.

Really excited to see where this goes and would definitely be happy to pay for dlc in the future. Also please add proper dragons with wings!!!!!!

P.s thanks for making such an awesome game

Fun, niche monster ranching/battling game with a surprising amount of depth. Graphics aren't impressive but I've seen far worse. Combat is fun and is relatively deep from an RPG perspective.

Enjoying my time with it immensely so far. My only major gripe is the UI could use some more polish and quality of life improvements. Sorting monsters, re-ordering, searching, sortable column, lists, etc. I spend a lot of time breeding and selecting which monsters to battle/sell/harvest and when you have a lot of monsters it would be nice to be able to sort and filter the lists.

Lightword

In short, it's a good buy for those looking to get lost in breeding the perfect disaster.

The game is still in early access and has very few bugs. I was worried the the RNG engine would be painful, but luckily it isn't bad. Money was never an issue, the content can get boring at times, and there is always a better monster to be made. As for the content, there are updates planned.

I'm addicted, can't wait to see more!

Played for a few hours and I believe this game has great potential. It is a fun game concept and the battle system gives you a goal to work towards. I enjoyed just casually messing around with species and seeing what is possible with them. I can't wait for this to be full release!

This game is not a little gem yet, more like a diamond in the rough . It needs some polishing ( mainly the graphics ) but the game play is solid and addictive and fairly deep, the content is quite extensive with no bugs that i could find ,The breeding of the monsters is for my money the best part although the rest hiring fighters etc is good. To sum up i do not regret buying it and for a early access game it has quite a lot going for it , the dev seems committed to making a great game and expanding it

Majin Boop
Majin Boop

Picking it up is a bit iffy at the start, the tutorials help somewhat.
but essentially you have to balance the budget and think ahead in the earlier stages before you can get a squad of humans leveled up or a second generation of creatures going.
Carnevours are all rounders but they get messed up with abominations
lizards live a long life but they are picky
bugs are short lived and weak
be careful with hiring people with shitty traits
always try to tame a creature with runes or potions before they are mature due to the higher chances to be in combat and level.

Trig_the_Poor_Shot
Trig_the_Poor_Shot

An absolute little gem of a game with an addictive "just one more turn" quality.

The game has a brilliantly simple, yet very engaging game concept:
You develop and build up your base, breed hybrid creatures (giant insects, poisonous reptiles, fire-breating hounds, etc), train gladiators (warriors, archers, mages) and provide them with equipment (weapons, armour, potions), and that all costs money.
Then you have these creatures and gladiators attend turn-based arena fights to earn the money.

The game doesn't force you into impossible fights, you can take easy ones for less money, but you are motivated to try harder ones to make more. But for that you need to breed better creatures, train better gladiators and have better equipment, and for that you need even more money.

Creating hybrid creatures is a lot of fun, as you can breed various species and hope the offspring will inherit the best traits and special features, but always with a certain level of unpredictability, which keeps you interested to see what new monstrosity will hatch out of that egg.

Good for the turn-based fights, good for the base building, good for the creature breeding and management. Definitely worth the price!

Bro pumped over 90hours in one week!!!! Fist of the music is addicting like RuneScape tracks. This is strategy masterpiece on riods. The in-depth level of detail for breeding if so complex and tune-able with the right amount of risk reward for higher tiers and customization to tailor to gameplay with every growth point causing a new obstacle to overcome the RNG is intense and monthly updates!!!! Its not even full release 10/10 ⭐️

This is a great game. Sure, the graphics stink, but it is an indie solo project, and the creator admits that it is the next thing that he needs to work on, which is in the works. But besides the graphics, everything else about this game is great and well-executed. Obviously, being early access, there are still occasional bugs, but the creator is very responsive and addresses things quickly; this is not a dead game or cash grab it seems. There is a lot to do, and many ways to play the game. It has interesting new concepts and twists on familiar ideas. Although I have personally focused on trying to breed monsters with many characteristics passed on by the parents, there is also a gladiator aspect which I have yet to even try, and which gives a new play style, but isn't required to play (thankfully, because I am only interested in the monsters). Given his past record, I believe him when he says that he will be improving the graphics soon, and if it is anything like past improvements, he will end up nailing that too. One of the best early access and indie games I have played in a while- up there with Rimworld and Stardew Valley.

Early access or not I have still loved every bit about this game. Ton's of depth to be found. One big surprise I was glad to find was just how much I enjoy getting to see what my hybrid monster comes out looking like regardless if it's my first generation or tenth.

Well, I played this for over 24 hours in one sitting after buying and installing it. Very addictive gameplay loop, and one of those games that makes you want to play "just one more turn" before shutting it off. I very much appreciate many of the details put in place here, but there is certainly room for improvement. Other than a fundamental misunderstanding of what a bear is supposed to look like (among other creature models fixed by hiring a 3D modeler to complete this), I have no serious complaints so far. Looking forward to what the game could become, but it is reasonably worth it as it is now.

This is a really amazing game set in a awesome world. I really like the turn mechanics and the overall freedom to breed and fight creatures and also fight along side them. The abomination feature brings challenges you normally would not encounter in breeding on any other game. On the contrary it took me about 3 hours to gets grasp on breeding and character/team building. There is a lot potential for a great game and I hope to see what you add in future updates. hopefully we can see some new races and creature types.

Despite initial appearances, "The Monster Breeder" is a phenomenal experience for those who have long been looking for an actual monster breeding game and for those who enjoy the nuances of tactical role-playing games. If you happen to like both of those things, then it will certainly scratch a very specific itch.

Other reviews have explained the intricacies of the battles and stat development to a much better extent, but what I can say is that the sheer potential here is great. With more time and production value, this game could carve out a very secure place in the hearts of a lot of people as a quintessential example of the monster raising/collection genre.

That said, it is rough around the edges as of my typing this. The graphics are generic, the music is generic, and the setting is generic. The developer is pretty transparent about this, though, so I certainly hope that these things could be improved upon. Personally, I'd like to see some more intricately designed models, original music, and greater variety in both monster and humanoid characters. If everything could be a bit more fleshed out with other races/species, male & female gladiators/employees (currently only male models with limited variation), and some further world-building across the board, I feel like the experience could be much more immersive and enjoyable.

Overall, I really like the game. It's limited in what it can achieve simply due to the usual development constraints, but with enough support it could probably break through those self-same limitations and become a classic.

The game is fun! but it is obviously lacking in many regards in terms of content or visuals. This is the kind of game I have always wanted to play, but could never find. A few have come close before. But no matter what they always seemed to lack depth. Either the monster raising/training was only a side feature, or it was only a shallow attempt.

But the promise is there.

First off, this is a 1-developer game in Early Access, so it definitely is a bit rough around the edges.
There's no tutorial yet so you may have to restart once or twice until you understand what you should and shouldn't spend money on at the start so you don't go bankrupt after 6 turns, or how not to get your first squad of warriors eaten by venomous spiders.
Graphics aren't great (yet) since everything was made without a professional artist at hand. The artist has announced that if this game does well enough there would be new assets in the future.

That being said, the gameplay is a lot of fun once you get into it. It's mostly a management/breeding game with tactical combat. You build up your homestead, hire a blacksmith and an alchemist and hope they aren't alcoholics who beat their apprentices in a drunken stupor until they run away. It's great!

I WANT to compare it to something like Monster Rancher but the one single game it most resembles is actually XCom, blended with one of those addicting mid-2000s Flash games.

The developer is also very receptive for user suggestions and by its very nature this game has a ton of potential if more content is added.

If you're a fan of the Skaven from the Warhammer series. And your favorite clan is Clan Moulder. This is honestly the perfect game for you. I'm having a lot of fun breeding monsters and sending them to fight in the arena. It's still rough around the edges though. UI needs some work and animations are still a bit janky. Something by which the dev is very much aware of. But there is a lot of detail put into this game, and I have come across no game breaking bugs. Definitely worth seeing where it goes!

This game has a lot of potential currently it's being developed by one person, he's actively taking suggestions and ideas in the discord and constantly updating the game to add new content, updating the discord on what's going to be and has been updated it's really worth a try the more purchases he gets the more he can put into the game by hopefully hiring others to help with the graphics and really make this game big.

With almost 47 hours played I have gotten a very goo feel for the game in it's current state. So here is my thoughts.

Difficulty:
The difficulty of the cash in the game is very low, in most cases just keep fighting win or lose and funds will never be an issue, but I do not feel like the cash in the game is intended to be an issue past the start.

Combat, This is fund and variably difficulty. the animals is not to hard to use, but the humans are incredibly hard to win fights with. Over all it is fun and challenging, but after a while I found that I just started using auto combat. but that's normal for these games. If you wanted harder game try using humans only, and for a super hard game do lethal combat with humans.

For me the true enjoyment was in the actual breeding of the animals, it is relitively complex and detailed and I feel it will likely expand a lot as development goes on. I spent a huge portion of my gameplay time breeding the perfect creature. Raising it's life span, adding traits, getting current traits build up. This was where I think the game was truelly enjoyable. But the other aspects were good to.

Now for the few complaints.
The graphics are very subpar for the monsters, this is rather sad, but perhaps will get better.

The blacksmith and alchemist have the drunkard trait to often. This is a super annoying trait and makes this aspect less enjoyable. Needs to be less frequent. I mean really why is 90% of the people I can hire drunks.

Humans need more to do with them, monster breeding is fun, but humans I get to gear them and thats really it. The training is kind of meh and it just feels like there could be a lot more added for them (perhaps simply yet to come)

Animals need a trait for there species, after all even with cross breading a new species would eventually evolve.

Over all though I loved the game and it is still EA so will likely grow a ton.

The majority of my hours were just leaving the game open. This game is fun and will be great to follow. It is fairly short. After 100 turns I have over 1 million gold and 12/14 achievements. Looking forward to ranked battles or more breeding/exploration added in the future. Right now its worth the purchase to support the developer, but can easily be beaten in a day or two. I give it a 7/10 as it sits

Played through this, definitely good with HUGE potential. Game feels short, you'll 'win' before your keep is upgraded... long before, unless there's more which if so I'll edit and update. Graphics aren't something you should get hung up on from one guy making an EA game (actual use of the EA here rather than some other games that've been EA for 4yrs and pushing) Game starts somewhat challenging and you can feel overwhelmed. You'll get past this point. Once you have a grasp of the mechanics it is very, very easy. There could be more to do, options, goals, etc... but there's definitely time for that. In summary, good/short/big potential, definitely worth a purchase and patience for where it goes, though I've already easily gotten my money's worth

While this game definitely has got a number of rough edges, but the concept and the implementation is quite sound so far. It's got a good mixture of management and combat that allows the player to experiment different breeds of monsters and providing the human combatants different training and equipment, in order to achieve the maximum rewards for each tournament you enter, also the developer is quite active in the discord channel for feedback and suggestions, too.

Very fun game.

Innovative breeding system.

Still early access but a very helpful and involved developer, who takes feedback and incorporates it into what will be the finished product.

Can't wait for this game to leave early access. I'm craving more content like a junkie.

I've always wanted a monster fighting game with breeding and genetics, something that games like Pokemon or Monster Rancher just can't do.

Love the concept! It's unique to anything I've played before (and I do love playing a lot of monster breeding & battle games).
The ability to sell, breed, alter, extend the life of creatures, ability to get different mutations, enter competitions, improve buildings together with the human unit concept makes this a pretty cool game! The game takes your typical monster battle, collection & breeding games and adds a refreshing touch to it. I'm impressed with this one! Awesome work :)

Can't wait to see what the full release holds in store

This game is actually very good. I was a little critical at first but it definitely deserves the chance.

Monster Breeder bills itself as a monster cross-breeding game, and it is; but the monster breeding part is the icing on the cake that is a core good gladiatorial management game. Once I understood that the economics of the game is to win big purses by fielding your monster hybrids in the more lucrative gladiator arenas, then everything clicked into place.

You start with some seed money, an old keep and a spring in your step as you immediately swing down to the hunter’s shop to see what types of juvenile monsters they have that you can purchase and eventually crossbreed.

Monster Breeder is in Early access, so systems are rough around the edges. There is a hard limit to the interesting monsters you can crossbreed, however acquiring a monster hybrid with the attributes and traits you want will undoubtably take a while. And it’s a lot of fun to tinker around with the systems of blood infusion, feeding baby monsters with different meat, and treating baby monsters with different magic fields (from runestones and scrolls) and potions to improve certain traits.

Also Monster Breeder has a lot of systems. Forgers can make you arms and armor, and some items can be sold to keep you economically afloat. This is a necessity in the early game when you are just treading water economically and a majority of your income comes from the pittance given at the Catacombs arena. Alchemists can make potions you can use in combat, but more importantly at greater levels alchemists can make you potions that allow you to crossbreed, mutate, tame or enchant the monsters you collect. So, they are a long-term investment.

Once you get into the midgame when you have viable monster hybrids to take on the challenges in the non-Catacombs gladiator arenas and win thousands of gold, things really open up as you can run multiple monster breeding programs in parallel. You can also invest in human gladiators coming from warrior, archer or mage backgrounds. Equipping your human gladiators with the best gear either from your high-level forgers, gladiatorial winnings, or special shopping festivals is another fun gameplay loop of optimizing your units.

The biggest drawbacks have already been described by other reviewers. The graphics are quaint, the sound effects can be annoying and the early game has a learning curve. However, this is one of the best monster breeder games on the market that I can think of and one of the better gladiatorial games available on Steam. Ultimately as other have said, it’s rough and in Early Access but it already has a good gameplay loop and personally I want to see how the developer further iterates and defines this monster breeder game.

This game has a great base and concept. it just needs some more time and refining. The tutorial is pretty rough giving so MANY mechanics as an info dump is enough for people to stop playing. I suggest quests. You have 1 and thats it. Join the guild. and theeeeeeeeeen idk couldnt tell you. I got like 120 turns into the game. There is a lot of depth and fun to be had. However, it should be convayed slowly and through progression. There is to much right out of the gate. I love mixing my monsters and the battles are fun. For fights suggest an auto move for attacks. Having to move and then select attack is wierd just becuase it FEELS like i should be able to click attack and it moves and then attacks. Also please add something to tell me how much energy a move will use. I can never tell if ill have enough points to attack still.

1.Slower more well thought out tutorial
2.Introduce mechanics slowly with quests and unlocks instead of everything all at once
3.Have more obvious tips and tricks for newbies
4. Add a calendar that add upcoming dates so its easier to plan
5. Add something that tells me what I am missing when I dont have the right things to make a team.

I really like this game and hope you continue to hone it into a more polished and well communicated game.

this is an extremely fun game even in the early stage of development that it is now, but one thing that i feel is underused is the different types of chassis/body types in the game, most carnivora and insectoids are relitively the same, you could use scorpionlike and wasplike chassis, and maybe even mantis type chassis, as for carnicora they could have a bipedal type predator and a flying one as well. there are so many options for many different body types in each type of monster, and i feel like tapping in to those would help bring out this games inner shine even more.

A fun concept for sure, I purchased because elements remind me of Jade Cocoon. Id say its worth a try but if i'm honest I have struggled particularly with money while playing.
