This is not a bad game, no. But if you are someone like me who is new to visual novels, I would suggest going more mainstream. I personally found the story slow paced and couldnt keep a very long attention span, because I am new to visual novels. But point is, dont buy this is you're new like me to these kinds of games. Would recommend to those who love reading/relaxed/casual games, however.

Though I am not normally a fan of visual novels this one peaked my interest for um...personal reasons. I did find the story good, took a while to get super invested but for what it was I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It had a satisying amount of variation based on your choices, the tranformations were of course amazing, and as always VolkenFox's art was divine as ever. The dialog was decent, the characters were interesting, and the overall story was fanciful and enjoyable.
I give this game an 8/10. Sorry to be critical but I did have a few quarrals. The main issue I had was honestly just that I couldnt take screenshots of the amazing art and transformations usuing the steam overlay, but thats a nitpick. Hence my rating. I recommend this game to any and all who are willing to give it a try. It was an enjoyable 20 dollars, I'm glad I spent my time and money on this game. I will look forward to future projects by the marvelous one known as VolkenFox and his equally fabulous compatriot, T.F. Wright. May the odds be ever in your favor!

I remember buying this game back in 2018. I spent around 25.7 hrs seeing everything the game had to offer. Seeing possibilities, I could or not take with the protagonist and their pals change as the game progressed. The game is quite replayable as I spent hours playing it back in 2018, trying to get the different endings.

To move onto game mechanics, the game is a visual novel with choices and romanceable characters. The game greatest feat is that your choices matter as you will get a certain ending based on what you decided to do. This game has so many different timelines that you could replay through this game for hours!

For characters, as the story progress’s the protagonist adapt to how you decided to do things as you progress through each adventure. With what you decide changing the characters soon or in the future. You not only change characters but also the adventure. With the characters reacting to how you decide to do things either negatively, mixed, or positively. The characters have a decent amount of personality to them with their own positives and negatives to them.

With romances, it’s not too difficult as you end up as friends with the crew. However sometimes the crew member you are interested in may ask to stay as friends, being unromanceable. Just be aware that romance can matter as it could affect a character’s opinion of you.

I would recommend this game to those looking for a visual novel with romance and adventure. Its worth the money if you replay the game repeatedly and differently!

A choose your own adventure style visual novel with furries and pirates seemed fun but... Its not that great. For one the writing is only okay, a few editing mistakes here and there but mostly the problem is a story that's hard to get into with characters that are hard to root for and a main character that never feels like any sort of a representation of "you". Next there is the issue that the game makers were quite fond of "fat furs" and treat making you fat as a sort of a reward over and over from timeline to timeline. I get to some thats a reward but to me its a bit off putting. Let others enjoy being fat sure, but dont make me become fat and think its a "reward". Also the endings lack any sence of fullfilment, only seen two but I am not motivated to see any more. Each one saw me remake the world in a way that was a step forward and a step back, maybe if I kept playing I woulda seen a larger moral that was the culmination of multiple playthroughs but... to me it just seemed like lousy writing as not only were the endings short but also each one told me how I messed up in fixing the world at all, not that I was actually given much choice in the matter. I guess in the end I am just not a fan of this game.

This ended up being way better than I expected! I found it while looking for furry games, and now I want to make my friends play it. The story and characters are fun, and I ended up replaying it many times right away. One playthrough is short, but it is worth it to replay it and see the different outcomes. The soundtrack is also pretty enjoyable. There are some common tropes here, but the transformation aspect was pretty unique and well done.

Now, while I do see this game has good potential (and some very good art and audio), I, personally, didn't like it to much. I felt that Mila was way too silent. I hadn't really gotten far before I just couldn't take the lack of a spine that Mila had. There were many times when I, if it was, say, a real-life situation (or at least a role-play session) that I would have just shouted "enough." Whilist, yes, Mila is meant to be the rookie crewmember, she never speaks up. And, nobody ever seems to ask for her opinion. It feels way too much like all the drags of real life, really. However, it may just be past experiences with me that make me feel this way about the game. And, yes, I get that "fate" is an arc word in the story, but I'm not someone that believes in fate, I, rather just prefer to make my own luck.

I may come back to it someday. Perhaps, my opinions on it will be different.

Oh, and the transformation sequences weren't that good. Kind of just a fizzle, rather than something you may see in "An American Werewolf in London." I understand that indie games have a tighter budget...But you couldn't even give me some more animation frames? :)

Honestly? I LOVE this game SO much! The cast (both design and personality) is awesome, the voice work (the little there is in it) is great too, I love all the different pathes, endings, and even romances (YA FOR NOMALIZING GAY ROMANCES!!!), the transformations were fun and awesome, and normalizing (even romantatizing a bit) fat is something I NEVER see in a game, and I am glad they did it.

SOME SPOILERS!!!

I would LOVE to see what it would be like if Darious, Tam-Tam, or Leeko put the crown on, for example, or have more chances to try romancing Brock and/or Mary.

I also would love to do more with the mirror with the different realities, as well as see different transformation for on Circe's island and in the love shop too.

I could go on and on about this game, and it's been a real blast finding all the different endings, paths, and romances, and I highly recommend this to others

- A few spoilers-
After playing this game for over 12 hours I have to say, it's amazingly made and well executed. Of course it isn't perfect and I'll go over that in a bit I'd like to say a few things about each character

Mila: She starts out as a timid little kitten, but your choices alter how she develops as a character, as a person. The choices you make reflect on her morals and ways of doing things. Each transformation changes her character and how she reacts to obstacles. You can get a very cruel Mila, or a very kind-hearted mila who's willing to give anyone a chance. Her character is the most dynamic among the characters, after seeing a review that she is always timid, it makes me think they haven't explored the diversity that is Mila and the choices you can make.

Morgana: I have a love-hate relationship with her. She's cruel, hard headed, but deeply cares about her crew members. The choices you make drastically change her character. She can become a princess with no memory of her crew, or a kind hearted woman who remembers all the times she was evil

Darious: I haven't seen enough of him from the paths i've taken. He is a great guy, but I haven't seen much of a back-story for him yet, and I hope to see more about him. In most of my play throughs he ends up dying..or losing his memory and becoming a woman. He's kind hearted and has the best of the world in his intentions, but he lacks the ability to think about how those choices can alter reality in not so pleasant ways.

Tam-Tam: I love her, she's beautiful, has a sense of humour, but I haven't seen too much about her as of yet. You can tell she has many secrets that I hope to explore.

Leeko: Starting out as timid and small, he has a lot of doubts and worries and doesn't think highly of himself. I've only seen two of his transformations and hope to see more to see how his character is changed. He manages to keep his character throughout each transformation i've seen, even as a giant wolf--

Rourkie and his crew: I despise Rourkie, he's cold, will kill anyone if he feels like it, even his own crew members. There isn't much to say about him except I've always made choices that end in his death.... But I hope to explore every path of the game even if it means being nice to him. His crew mates have the potential to change, and I saw in one of the paths that it could be possible to get Mary to join your crew.

Now, This game has a moral that I've come to understand. You can change the world, but you can't make it perfect. You can end hunger, end death, end war, but it doesn't make life perfect. Instead it has its downsides that make you realize that without these things, we have a world we no longer understand. The choices you make and the ending you get all seem to have down-sides. If you try to end hunger without using the coins in the library, you make everyone fat and change beauty standards..making thin people the minority and descriminated against. The coins seem to serve as a lesson for the users, and honestly I don't believe they were made with the intention of making the world a better place.
I reccomend this game to anyone who has time to spare on it, on learning about the world they live in and the characters. This is a furry game, but you don't have to be a "furry" to enjoy the lessons that it teaches.
You touch on the standards of beauty and how rediculous they are, religion and how it can get out of hand, and how war shapes us all.

Now, for the pros and cons of the game

Pros:
*Dynamic characters, you never know how they'll change or what they'll become.
*Enough endings to keep you playing for a long time
*Multiple choices that give you the chance to experience things your way, even if you get limited choices in some play-throughsm you made that path
*The ability to romance your crew, I haven't yet seen an option to romance anyone else, though.
*Great sound-track, and hardly any errors with the text or dialogue
*Minimal voice acting, but it's decent, and not too terrible and most of the voices reflect the characters
*Beautiful artwork

Cons:
*Hardly any romance dialogue, you romance them and that's it, they sometimes comment on it later but it is minimal at best
*There's no real way of knowing how mila will transform, and I haven't seen her transform gender yet, if it's even possible
*The endings can feel incomplete, you don't get to see the result of many of the endings and how it exactly affects the world, you get a narrator explain it briefly or vaguely, but other than that many of the endings are simple, and don't show you anything.
*Each route is reletively short, it has a lot of dialogue but it would be nice to be able to meet more characters and see more places, now in 12 hours I've gotten about 5 endings, so take that how you will. Is that too short for you? Just right? It depends on your reading speed.
*Minimal voice acting and in selective areas. It's confusing why they choose only some dialogue voice acted and most of it not, I enjoyed the voice acting that it did have, however.
*You don't get to choose the name of your character, isn't a big deal but hey, I thought I'd point it out.
* Not really a con but, many choices make you fat? How does hugging someone make you gain weight I wonder? Just a thing to point out. But your character never is ashamed of the body she gains from your choices so that's something good.

All in all, you have to play the game yourself to know if you'll like it. For the price it has a lot to do and a lot of choices. I've seen 30-40 dollar games with little endings and hardly any choices.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I LOVE visual novels an am not a furry.
The game is really well put together; it has excellent visual cohesion and a smooth gameplay (a lot of lower end VNs are very clunky in this regard). The writing is just ok. I found it jumped around a lot to random plot points and didn't really pull me in or make me excited.
My biggest gripe with this game is the massive amount of cringey fanservice. MY GOD I WAS NOT PREPARED. I'm not sure if I just got unlucky with my choices, but it seemed like every other choice I made resulted in one of my crew turning into an enormous woman with breasts at least 5x the size of her head (sigh). It was a little distracting, and not in a good way. I have nothing against porn or boobs (they are both great), but and this game left me feeling like I paid for a softcore expansion fetish game.

Captain Kit

this graphic novel game is well designed a great story your action truly matter here; it is fantastic pirate adventure game with all of what makes stories great, action adventure romance drama tragedy your choices well truly affect how thing turn out; with a lot of endings and paths the story can take funny jokes here and there.

good dialogue and great voice acting that makes you want more, but with so much dialogue it understandable why the whole thing is not voiced over, well drawn images it is wonderfully designed scenes with some comic like event scenes to add to the feel.

I would suggest this game to any one willing to read and enjoys a good story.

if your a save scum like me understand that you have to accept some negatives to progress the story as tragedy a guaranteed part of the story, I feel it gives the story heart a reason for Mila the main character to do some of what she does what you decide she does as you are the one picking the path she will follow.

I was really enjoying this game (very cute character designs) until I got smacked in the face by a big helping of fatphobia. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fat queer girl (bought this as part of the queer games bundle) and I like seeing art of cute fat girls as much as the next, but boy oh boy was the portrayal of fat girls in this game 1) very fetishizing 2) extremely stigmatizing (lots of mockery for being fat, casual and not so casual fatphobic comments, and the ever so lovely fatness as ironic punishment trope) and best of all 3) really felt like whoever made this game was getting off on the fatphobia part of the fat transformations.

Let me be clear, I don't think there's anything wrong with transformations or even transformation kinks and I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with being fat, but this game left me with a very sour taste in my mouth and I could not enjoy it after that. I read one of the creator's posts about the game in which they said they felt transformations allowed them to "challenge conventional understandings of beauty," but in my opinion this game does NOT challenge fatphobic standards, it reinforces them (fat = lazy, bad, punishment, weakness, outlandish, shameful, a fetish). I must admit there's a chance that had I toughed it out, the game might have given me a nice little, "and then we all learned to love being fat," but honestly I don't think that that would change my opinion. It really felt like someone who wrote this game was getting off on the more unsavory parts of its portrayal of fat people.

Very well done game. Beautiful artwork, excellent writing.

I'm not particularly interested in furries or TF, yet I still found the characters interesting and the story compelling.

Compared to a lot of the other visual novels on Steam, this is a good value.

Whilst I do like the concept of this game, I do not recommend it.

The game itself is quite shallow in terms of choices and consequences and transformations. Whilst there are some major choices to be had which lead to a branching story, most choices are superficial and don't actually do anything.

Once you've decided on one of these major choices you're pretty much railroaded until the next major choice. There are only a handful of major choices to be had (3?) with a few smaller choices sprinkled in.

Improvements for the next games
- Make small choices matter
If you're presenting 2 or three conversation options make these options mean something. Don't just allow for all options to lead to the same scripted event. Otherwise there is no point in even allowing the options in the first place.

- More transformations
I liked the transformations, however there are too few of them for a game solely about transformations. Perhaps this indicates that the game was rushed?

- Allow transformations to stack
Most transformations are singular and the encounters are scripted in such a way that a limited number of people are able to undertake that encounter's transformation. Open up the events so that all characters can undertake them, meaning players can "mix and match" transformations.
I know that this would lead to more artwork being required, however the gain in replayability and player satisfaction would be well worth the time investment.

This is what I originally thought when I watched the trailer for this game, unfortunately it wasn't to be.

The Pirate’s Fate is a visual novel featuring a group of anthropomorphic animals called the Dread Pirates who are seeking magical coins in order to change the world for the better. A cat woman named Mila is rescued by the Dread Pirates and her choices influence the story going forward. Who lives, who dies, and who Mila falls in love with are strongly influenced by the choices that she makes on her adventure.

Personally, I love the choices affect the outcome of the game. The characters are well written and grow as the story progresses. I’m not an advocate for LGBT content, but the writing of the game manages to treat the characters with respect and flesh them out as people instead of using sexuality to virtue signal or as a throwaway as is the problem with most characters who are depicted as LGBT. Not to mention the voice acting is spot on most of the time.
However, that doesn’t mean the Pirate’s Fate doesn’t have a few glaring issues. For instance, some characters feel like they get the shaft when it comes to transformations while others, Morgana and Leeko, tend to have a variety in transformations. Even though I played four routes and the Prisoner of Destiny DLC it would have been nice to see characters like Darious, Brock, and Tam-Tam get additional transformations in game.

Also, in some places the music overshadows the voice acting that it makes it hard for the player to clearly hear the dialogue. Add the fact that after saving a scene the filter for flashbacks or for pitch black scenes fail to stay that way after saving and returning to the game. And some players may feel that the DLC is too linear at times.
Yet the way the game is built sets it up for it to become a full-fledged series that could spawn sequels and spinoffs considering the vast multiverse of the game. It’s even possible that a spinoff featuring Darious as the POV character is a possibility given that his choices as Captain of the Dread Pirates could hold the same weight as Mila’s given that AUs are possible.

However, the game itself could have the possibility of receiving an enhanced port that adds more to the main routes and the DLC. Also, a fourth option at the beginning where Mila lies to Rourkie could set up a stage one evil route where Darious is spared just like the stage one absolutist path, but leads to a bar fight between Mila and Morganna due to Morganna believing that Mila’s lie about where one of the coins could be. Not only that but it could make use of new transformation, cut transformations, and romances to make their way into the game.

For example, Mila could choose between Darious or Leeko when it comes to speaking with Circe to unlock Werewolf Leeko or Bear Darious during the stage one evil Mila route. Also, there could be a possibility to add secret routes and new endings based upon secret requirements such as having certain transformations among the crew or romances. Yet these secret routes could result in unique transformations that are a hybrid of the four different final Mila transformations in the game.

One secret route could be possible if Leeko is turned into a girl and she is hiding a secret, such as a mystery man calling himself a wizard handing her the Gemini Amulet from the kickstarter concept idea. If the requirements are met this choice could lead to a cross between Empathetic and Independent Mila and a giant two headed Darious with Lazerby turning into a second personality and losing his ghostly influence on Darious as a result.

So, if you like a novel with a compelling story then pick up The Pirate’s Fate. Yet my only other nitpick would be is that the game teeters between a hard T rating and a light M rating due to its content. So with that in mind I would definitely recommend people 17 and up to give it a go, but parental discretion for those under the age of 17.

This is defiantly an intriguing and unique visual novel that offers you the choice of your own *fate*

Although only some parts of the game are voiced, regardless the story, plots, characters, choices and consequences are all interesting.

And since the game allows you to choose you own options / outcomes, there is plenty of re-playability if you wanted to do so.

This was a very great and enjoyable visual novel experience, to the point it inspires me to make on myself. The characters are charming, the story is riveting and there is great replay value. Only a few spelling errors and some difficulty getting certain endings are my only real complaint here. It might be designed for an odd niche but it fits that niche perfectly!

The "partial voice acting" stated in the more info section is generous. There are 2-4 lines voice acted and then entire scenes of nothing. This is a HUGE missed opportunity. I don't understand why they would have scenes between two characters where in the middle of the conversation one character says two lines and then that is it.

It would have been better to have no voice acting.

Its easy to see that a lot of effort went into this game. I like the art style, I like some of the characters, the music is alright, but... I will not deny that it has a few issues. Lets start off with the positives first through. For one thing, this game has you think carefully for a while on the choices that you make. Its highly recommended that you play through the game at least once or twice to get an idea on how some of your choices will end. On a few of your choices, the main character you play as will go under a change. A transformation of sorts that'll alter her appearance, making her either a different species, becoming more intimidating or comforting depending on this situation, and of course, having her in the late game become something close to that of an angel or a demon in accordance with the choices that you made, be they moral or immoral. (Deep breathes.)

However, for the negatives we have here for this game, its probably best to just do one story line for when you want to just read something to pass the time. The music after a while gets repetitive, so once you get tired of hearing it, just mute it. As for some of the characters, I can't help but feel that some of them as well as a few of the choices (Including the newest DLC) are underutilized. Lets say for a moment you get stuck with crew number two instead of the usual crew number 1 that has the most paths to take. If you go with crew number two, your choices and some of the endings will feel like they were a bit rushed and weren't given much time to develop. At one point I was hoping to have the main character somehow kill the captain of crew number two and take over the ship with the help of somebody you'll meet along the way. Sadly though, that never happens. You get only a few different endings with the game in its newest DLC with some choices that have no effect or impact on anything at all. I was really hoping to do more in the DLC, but perhaps the makers were on a deadline or something. I don't know, but what I do know is that even some of the romance options are kinda... just there. it is possible to screw them up, which is a positive, just when its actually written well. You'll find the ones that didn't have much development time easily once you play the game more than a few times. Maybe after a year or two the makers will put in an update to this game and expand upon some of their options more. I do have one suggestion for them that they can use. One character that knows of the treasure, knows the effects of the coins that cause the changes to whoever has them, as well as being aware of not just what's going on with both crews in the game, but with how many ways things can end for them if they make certain choices. His main goal is to simply get all the coins for himself and start things over again, but with the main character and crew number 1 being fully aware of what's going to happen now at the cost of him now being able to use the coins anymore. He has thankfully written out the several paths that you, the player have taken over the course of the game. He's written out how you've gotten certain characters killed off as well as how things ended once you managed to find the treasure. With the book now in hand and the main character as well as crew number 1 being fully aware of how things could go down, they can avoid so much trouble and be able to keep other characters from dying tragically. Some of the crew being understandably more upset than others once they see how often they died due to the player's choices, but it can be quite humorous at times too. This could also open up some new transformation opportunities that can help follow up on some of the changes, maybe even allow for some new ones to be put in as well.

Apologies if this feels a bit unorganized in some areas, but this game... this game just has so much more potential that just isn't being used. I hope that they make more DLC for this game and expand upon some of the options they have here. There's really a lot that can be done, maybe even ask the fans what kind they would like in a voting poll or something. I'd love to see more of this game's world and have some of the underdeveloped relationships given more attention. They may seem cute at times, but they aren't as strong as they could be if not given in-game time be drawn out and have the characters in those underdeveloped relationships become more touching, have a greater impact.

So, in conclusion, I in no way hate this game, I really did enjoy my time with it. While it has a few problems here and there, its nothing that really kills the game. It just hampers it at times. Its worth giving a try and I'm pretty sure you'll find a few story paths you'll like as well as some of the characters. It just needs to tap into more of its potential as when you really look at some of the choices, relationships, and a few of the characters, specially a certain ROYAL PAIN I WANT TO SMACK IN THE FACE AS AN ANGEL, (Sighs...) if the makers of the game take their with them, I have no doubt in my mind that this game's fanbase to explode with new comers as well as leave a more satisfying impact with all of its story paths.

You are free to comment down below, I hope you like this review and if you have some of your own ideas on a story path for this game, post it down below if you like. I'd love to see what other people can come up with.

This game is a surprisingly decent visual novel. I'm not necessarily the biggest fan of them, but this one peaked my interest enough for me to try it out. And what I got was a solid game with a few minor errors here and there. If you're into anthropmorphic animals and metamorphosis, give this one a shot.

Let's be honest. Visual novels have a somewhat-deserved reputation for surviving on merits other than their narrative quality. Fifteen bucks for some guy's anime fanfic? Pass. Fifteen bucks for a fanfic with pictures of big knockers? Maybe when it's on sale.

A lot of folks are going to pass this one up because it raises more red flags than the Royal Marine Drill Team. Anthropomorphic (yeah, yeah, furry ) characters, lots of TF stuff, whimsical pirate trappings that look like screenshots from anthro Pirates of Penzance fan fiction. This looks like the kind of thing you avoid just because you'd break out into a cold sweat when you remember people from work are on your friends list looking at what you play.

I wholeheartedly endorse buying The Pirate's Fate. Even if you have no enthusiasm for furry the characters and designs are fun and the art is clearly crafted with love. The plot threads are well-constructed and the story is genuinely exciting with danger to life and limb for characters you grow fond of during their swashbuckling adventures.

If TF stuff bothers you I could see avoiding the title. I will say though that while enjoying TF for TF's sake is definitely part of the selling point on this one it uses the theme to pose some good questions and opportunities for character development. The alterations to characters are integral to their growth (often literal) and advancement as people even if I could hear the clank of intended coins into the spank bank on a couple occasions.

This is a fun little story with that gave me more than a few cases of the feels. I'm doing several replays, excited each time to see what one choice here or there would inflict or bestow upon the crew. I certainly recommend this one even if you may not want to tell your aforementioned coworkers about it.

pros:
-Good characterization. The game quickly lets you get a feel for each character and they feel distinct, as do the various interactions and events involving them. This also applies to transformations of the characters.

-Story/overall plot is well done and actually expanded on quite a bit.

-Transformations are well done, each is distinct, shifts the story in a major way and has it's own charm.

-The decisions are numerous and significant enough that you feel like you're steering the story without it being excessive. That said, I wouldn't have minded a couple more choices for some paths.

-The decisions are mostly true forks in the story. There isn't any "ok, you made these decisions in chapter 1,2 and 3, so you get the bad ending in chapter 10." That said, there are bad endings, but they're extremely close to your previous choice(e.g., you make the choice and get the bad ending 3 scenes later). These aren't "true" endings as they're often brief and don't have a lot of build up the way the other ones do.

-Similar to above, the decisions that alter the plot significantly are tough choices. As said on the store page, the composition of your crew will change. I don't always love this type of narrative design (in fact, even now I have very mixed/bittersweet feelings about it), but I cannot deny that it is well done, helps the replay value significantly(which is a big part of this VN) and keeps you drawn into the story.

-Music fits the story well. It's not super memorable, but it does contributes to the mood of the current scene significantly. That said, I think it could've benefited from a couple more general songs.

cons:
-There are some minor issues with art and proofreading. Nothing that ruins your immersion or is otherwise gamebreaking, but you will notice them you play long enough.

-Each path is short (1 playthough is ~5 hours). This is very much a YMMV things, but for me, it was disappointing. I was under the impression the visual novel would be longer and there'd be at least a few more opportunities to transform per playthrough. That said, there are a lot of branches to take. Same amount of content, just a shorter individual story as a result. I feel like the paths would generally benefit from being a bit more drawn out, with more detail or events being added. Sometimes it feels like there's too much happening too fast.

-The ending is extremely abrupt. This is sort linked to my second con.
I don't think it's necessarily bad by the time you reach the end, it sometimes feels like the game is only halfway through. And what counts for an epilogue is pretty short too. It's literally a couple sentences. We don't get to see how the crew is doing after or anything (for most endings). It makes the endings feel hollow and disappointing more or less.

-Romances are brief. It's not really brought up again after the romance (save for if you try to romance another crewmember sometimes). I don't know, I wish there was a bit more dialogue for your love interest, even if it was a minor detail or two.

-The voice acting! Two major issues with the voice acting. First, it's pretty inconsistent. It's not random exactly (I actually think I understand their thought process as to when it's done. Basically, whenever a significant character or event is introduced?). Second, there's not enough of it. They really should've either gone all-in or not include any at all. I didn't think someone of the character's voices fit, and part of why I think is because I didn't really hear a lot of speaking so I couldn't get used to their voices.

-Gallery does not include transformations all on their own, which is a big fumble considering it's a highlight of the game.

Do not take this review the wrong way. What games do wrong often stick out more than what they do write. Not to mention games often do the same things correctly anyways. I enjoyed this game a lot. I suggest that those of you who might be turned off by the two prominent aspects of the game (it being a furry VN and the transformation thing) to try it. Overall, I have very polarised views on aspects of the game. I LOVED the characters, which you get attached to easily. However, I hated how short it was and how romance was very brief. I feel The Pirate's Fate could have greatly benefited if each path longer, even if it was by an hour or two more.

The Pirate's Fate manages to introduce characters which are genuinely lovable and you get attached to quite easily. It is a game that completely requires multiple playthroughs to get your money's worth and to see the entirety of the crew of The Pirate's Fate, as you learn different things about the characters depending on your choices. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys visual novels (or story games in general) and variety/choices.

Bought this game during sale for 50% off. Did enjoy it a lot! You can tell that the developers put a lot of love and effort in this game. Even though the game isn't perfect at this moment I do recommend it to everyone who is interested.
Personally I find 20€ is charging a bit too much. I really hope the developers keep updating and maybe improving the game in the future because I can see a lot of potential here.

I enjoyed this game for the first hour or so. The game has cute art and the characters were interesting.

What turned me off real fast was the fatphobia. A fat character gets constantly mocked and blamed for their weight.
When another character transforms into a fat version of herself, she also gets mocked and suddenly her skills get doubted. She gets an incredibly low self-esteem and it's up to the player to convince her that she's not ugly and useless.

It's a shame. The character art of the fat characters is super cute and it could have been a message of inclusivity, instead it's just used as fetish art. (Seriously, how much of a hypocrite do you have to be to jerk off to fat characters and then still hate them for being fat?)

Good animation, but not great. Game only lasts a couple of hours. Choices do matter, which is nice. Not worth the upgrade to the full version. The sale price for the basic game (a couple of hours) is the better way to go. I would not have purchased had I realized how short this was.

i was inmediatly going to refund this game, but then i found myself playing to end and gettings the most endings possible, it's really fun and interesting, and the most important the characters are very compelling and likable, and that's how you do it if you are going to put your weird fetishes in a game for the public to play at least this game do it right.

bought this game very cheap, and only recommend it at a very cheap price, either way i can't recommend at full price is very short, and probably other wont like this game since some choices will be grotesque.

Ok fine, there ain't many furry choice of adventure out there. And this product can be sorted into the better tier.

As far as the plot goes, it is fantastic and in a sense all characters fall into the right places with the background and personality.

However, I do think the development and pace need a lot of improvement.

There are a lot of cool interactions between characters, but some deeper introduction of characters should go before hand before those emotional moment make sense to readers. Wouldn't you agree?

I like the game, but I do wish that a story map or something was added so that It would be easier to find all the paths and epilogues in the games, as well as a list of all the transformations and looks you found for each character. But still, a great game

Please read the entire review before becoming angry or butthurt.
This game is well written and has a good number of story branches, the characters and their interactions are especially good. HOWEVER, if you dislike fat characters or hyper muscular characters, this game is not for you.
Certain transformations are tied to certain traits; if you want to be a good / nonviolent person in this game, you will gain 200 pounds. Any character that is good has a pretty high chance of gaining the figure of an apple or pear. In one of my violent play-through one member of the crew gets transformed and does a complete 180 with their personality and gains at least 180 in extra weight; this is bad because the entire playthrough was done to win said character's approval. Violence is the same story but the weight is gained in the form of muscle and height growth that will quickly turn into hyper. I am pointing out these transformations because they either felt unjustified or completely changed a character; in the case of the 180, completely threw off the story in a bad way that it never recovered from. This is, again, because most actions taken leading up to it were meant to please them; the character changed to be the opposite of what you were playing as while trying to get with them because of their personality, killing the mood. Allowing the PC or another character to take the hit would have fixed it. Also this character transformed 180 no matter what I did, with the other branch of the play-through just not leaving her fat. But depending on your choice, either her or another character WILL become fat; there is no escaping it.
Another problem I have with the game is the lack of diversity in many of the transformations, with many choices leading your character to become fat, muscled or stay the same, there are other transformations but they are less common than the 'physique' transformations. The other characters also transform but the max seems to be twice, with one of those being a fat / muscle transformation.
Apart from the fat / muscle transformations possibly killing the mood, the love relationships you can form with each member of the crew are almost always so close to the end that they never develop enough for them to be important to either the story or the player and the relationships that form earlier are almost all ruined by a transformation completely changing the personality of crew member in question.
Seriously if either fat or hyper muscle are no's for you, run; there are ways you can escape it in some playthroughs but you will be locked of much of the game's content and you will have to save scum HARD if you are fine with those than give the game a buy, you have two hours to try it and nothing to loose.
I don't have anything against those who have a lot of muscle or are obese but they are turn offs for me. I got this game for the relationships between the characters and my character, like a dating sim; them suddenly becoming something that I wouldn't be interested in kind of ruins that. I'm sorry if that offends anyone but these things are turnoffs for people and if they want to get the game for the same reasons I did, I feel that they should be warned.
Overall, the overabundance of 'physique' transformations really annoy me, the 180 personality changes immediately kill the mood when they happen and the love portion of your relationship with the crew is too short but everything else is stellar. The writing is good, the art is good and most of the endings left me satisfied with my choices; I don't regret my purchase.

What i like about this game is that it is a much better visual novel game than DDLC. you also get so many romances that it had on edge although there are a couple of sounds that will you jump this game overall is the best VN game there is and so i highly recommand that you play this game. but the one i dislike this game is the lack of more save slots because you only get 3 pages for saves in the game so i hope that if the does have a update that adds in more save slot that would make my day.

Okay so here's the thing, when I first got this game I had no idea how many endings there were and how much variation to the story there was. Like O..M..G! There's so many! >D<
This game is so much fun to play and I love all the transformations. It's refreshing to see how every choice really does have an effect on the game and all the story lines are different. I mean the core is the same, treasure hunting, change the world using magic coins, but the journey to get to the end always has a different twist to it.
I'd say 10/10 good game!

Recently I replayed The Pirate's Fate after having gotten one ending without backtracking to previous saves. Like most visual novels that promise multiple endings and romances: I wanted to see what other endings I could get and choose some of the paths I did not follow last time. Over all, I do like the choice variations: some are tiny because -ultimately- they are tiny while some were story-wide different paths that also were followed up. The most important thing to me in a CYOA or Visual Novel style game is that the choices actually matter rather than a too-false sense of agency.

The characters were largely likable and the choices usually made sense, as in I rarely made a choice that was actually a fake-out or misdirected me into a choice I wouldn't want to make. For those seeking a varied experience of high-sea piracy adventure with a treasure at the end. The choices you make almost never stop the story in its tracks or hand-cuff you to the One True Ending (as, as far as I understand it, there is none: each ending is its own ending to its own story.)

To nitpick, there were a couple of voice-over bugs (like VO playing that shouldn't be; a time when the game locks up trying to play a VO but couldn't) and the VO only be used every so often was something I had to get used to (though in that last case: I recognize that many VA games do this and it's the difference of a project costing way more time or money.) Last nitpick would be the music sometimes did not loop smoothly; so, in long stretches of reading or considering one's options: the player would be in thought for a while and then suddenly the music goes dead-quiet and then starts up again.

In the end, the nitpicks are that and I can ignore most of it since most of it was not game-breaking and didn't ruin the experience for me. When looking and a indie project like this, one has to manage expectations: not every developer has massive teams and capital to catch everything. So, overall this game was fun and I look forward to seeing what else this developer can do.

The writer has a fat fetish and it shows. If you're like me and you're not into that you're not gona have the best time. All you need to know is if you want a visual novel/narrative-driven story with choices that have ACTUAL impact on the plot, pick up this game. Simple choices can lead to characters dying, different plot paths that would not even be seen in other playthroughs. This game is designed to be replayed multiple times.

While my first playthrough took me 4 hours, i did go back and change a decision i didn't like, which actually ruined it as going in blind would have made the decision have more weight, so don't abuse this game's generous save system too much.

This game wasn't for me, so quit it after an hour or so as I just couldn't get into it. Its clear to me the issue was on my end, rather than the game being bad, hence the thumbs up.

However, I can see this being really good fun for alot of people. The art is absolutely delightful, has quite a few decisions for you to make, it seems like there is a long story to follow and lots of additional characters to meet.

Great game. I had a lot of fun exploring all of the different story routs.
The characters are well written and entertaining. They feel real enough that you can sympathize with them but not too real for you to get to know them in a couple of hours.
The different paths/orders of events are fun to experience with different crew members and different previous experiences.
The story has fantastical elements but feels grounded enough to be believable. It never felt like things were coming too far out of left field(mostly).
My only real complaint is that there isn't even more of it for me to enjoy. I definitely recommend this game.

It's a pirate game that dabbles in choose your own adventure and has many choices, transformations, twists, turns and many endings. I was skeptical early on as I'm new to the genre. However, I played through the game, 3 different times and had the characters drastically change.

The game has major replay value if your into visual novels and enjoy a good narrative that's constantly changing and providing you to new scenarios.

Personally, I liked how in my game Leeko who's basically a coward at the start and also the cartographer, obtained a magical coin and turned into a werewolf mercenary. Transformations like this in the game really make the story shine based on the choices you make.

However, I plan on trying this game out more and seeing the other many narrative choices I can make.
7.5/10 grab this on a sale. It's fun to play. It's totally worth it to grab all the content for a cheap price on any steam sale.

WHAT I LIKED:
+ Character designs are well-done
+ Background art is intricate and beautiful
+ Extreme (in a good way) variety of paths

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- Voice-acting felt restrained
- The different forms Mila can take are lacking in body type, especially with chest size
- The game doesn't warn you that "Become What You Seek" completely warps a character's personality
- Dialogue would shift into philosophical discussions (ex. seven deadly sins) which, while nice, felt forced
- A certain path (or more than one?) makes all the character development and interactions that took place obsolete

OVERALL:
I *really* like what the game was going for with the coins, but the path that made everything I did a waste of time ticked me off so much so, I stopped playing. However, my take should be taken (heh) with a grain of salt since I stopped somewhat early in the game.
If you want a story full of twists and magical transformations, I recommend Pirate's Fate. Just...be wary of some holes in the ship.

It's okay, but not as good as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, the art is fantastic, the voice acting is okay, the story seems very well put together and thought out, but there are a few things that prevent it from being a "win" for me; this is really just a matter of my own personal preference when it comes to these types of visual novels:

    • I can't seem to make a decision without some member of the crew randomly dying. This is a big turn-off for me, because you can make what seems like the right decision every time and then BAM -- suddenly innocent characters are dead from a seemingly random event that you couldn't predict on the first play-through. Play through it a second time, save those characters, and BAM another character dies horribly. I'm all for unintended consequences, but the stakes in this game are deceptively bloody, and that ain't sexy.
    • Furry (anthropomorphic animal) characters transforming into other anthropomorphic animal characters (or even just slightly different ones) does nothing for me. I don't know why this is, but it doesn't pique my imagination or tantalize my TF fetish. Now, if these had been human characters transforming into anthropomorphic animals, that would have been preferable for me. Like I said, this is a weird hang-up I have, so don't let it ruin your enjoyment of the game -- there are plenty of transformations to be found for all the major characters.
    • The character designs are a bit too human for my tastes, bordering on "humans with animal heads and tails stuck on." This isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me, but I like my furry characters to look less human, a bit more animal, and to have their paws out unshod, which this game just doesn't cater to. I know that it seems like nitpicking, but it does detract from my enjoyment of the art style.

Anyway, give it a go if you're inclined, you may find more to like than I do.

Thematically character evolution is a powerful story telling tool to show the emotional journey of the main characters. The Pirate's Fate presents that journey in a superficial way by having the main characters physically change as choices are made. Generally the changes follow a specific tone. More empathetic choices lead to a softer and physically round character while more prideful and selfish choices get rewarded with an appearance made up of sharper lines. The game's transformative aspect would be more impactful if it was paired with stronger story telling or the game took a more experimental route on how feelings and emotions can manifest themselves in physical appearance. Beyond the physical aspect of storytelling, I often found myself struggling to feel connected to the written narrative. Their are a couple big decisions in the game that happen without a ton of build and because of that regardless of which choice is made the outcome feels unsatisfying.

pretty interesting choose your own adventure novel/game. It has a ok start, a really solid middle, and a very confusing end.

Played four hours and got a single ending, went back one choice and got a different ending. Yet how I got to these two different endings was unnerving. The middle was fine since I could follow along with the story, yet I think my choices screwed up the order near the end. I just jumped to doing some trial thing and beat the game. It was weird. How the heck did I even get there. There was a single scene about a random X on the map, and boom I'm at a library, then boom I'm trapped, I escape, and couple choices later it ends... I was like ok... That felt Super forced! like no build up or ready for the climax kinda thing.

All in all I thought it was very well done, even the voice acting. Though if you play I recommend going into settings and dropping the SFX and Music a bit, then turn up the TV/Monitor volume. the voices in some scenes are quiet, VERY quiet.

I would like a scroll back function with the mouse wheel. sometimes I click to fast and skip a piece of dialogue.

I do think some characters are a bit much. Like what is up with that choice in the beginning. "I'm giving you a direct order" ahhhh Dude I had what three scenes with you and you start ordering me around? I know there has to be something to give the characters a "choices matter" kinda feeling, just what the hell man. I have known the guy for five minutes and he starts ordering me around? Yes I had to iterate this scene twice since it was SO forced!

As far as Visual novels go, its pretty decent. Definitely not the best I have seen, yet every one has their own idea's on what is the best. I thought it was pretty good, just the choices feel kinda put in weird spots and the choices some times are way off the marker in what you think you want your character to say.

So first ending I got was one queen to rule them all.... or that's the feeling I get. Changing one choice at the end got me let have a for the people ending and talk things out. which in my book didn't end well. LOL I think the princess maker type games do a bit better in that regards to being an epilogue on your choices.

all in all I say decent. :)

While I am very interested in the story, it was difficult for me to take it seriously as some of the transformations made me laugh so hard (I have to say there are decent ones, like where the FL transforms into a buff girl. I still can't stop laughing at the goddess transformation. It is absolutely hilarious.). I have to agree that this is indeed a fetish game. I sincerely have nothing against furries as I believe that the weird ones just have the loudest voices. I'm just saying how I see the game.

Fortunately, I don't regret buying this game. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. Maybe I'll play this again in the future to play the other routes as I do find the story interesting and would like to find the "true ending" or the ending that is most similar and makes sense to how the story started, hopefully I worded that right.

In the end if you're a casual VN player who's new to stuff like this I strongly advise you to stay away from this one, unless you want to explode in a fit of laughter.

PS: Steam should have a fetish tag. I'd like to have an option to filter out stuff like this. Then again, if that existed I wouldn't have been able to discover this game and laughed that hard.

As a transformation writer myself, this work was greatly inspiring to me. I loved the various transformation elements that the writers and artists have carefully constructed. The artwork, is especially one of my favorite aspects of the game. The backgrounds were beautiful, and the characters, fit will into the world around them.
I was especially captivated by the plot line involving one of the characters wearing a crown, to phrase it without spoiling any of the fun, but maybe that might be because I am an absolute sucker for mental changes / identity death / reality re-writes. I just wish that this idea could have been explored further and for longer. It would have been especially interesting to play through a path in which the main character had worn the crown and followed along with the crew.

Regardless, I heavily recommend this game to anyone who has a love for transformation fiction. I cannot wait for the next game to release!

Good stories, nice art. There isn't a whole lot of voice acting, but what there is isn't bad. I think between the time I've played on my friend's account and my own I have about 12 hours sunk into this and I've still not gotten nearly all of the endings or story routes. Def worth the price.

The characters have all different body types, even some actually fat characters (as opposed to, you know, thicc 'acceptably' fat. There's also at least (depending on routes) at least one trans character and one who I def got the impression (between the character design and the romance screen) of being intersex. No one seems to be really sexualised, either (aside from the romance sequences, but... appropriate time for it). I even manged to find one polyam route so far.

And that's my only real complaint: lack of polyam options.

How much do I need to pay on kickstarter to back a second DLC to play as an actual villain Mila? To be able to use the Act 2 Pragmatist Mila? For the love of gods, please.

* Minor Spoilers Below *

If you need a suggestion or idea: The transformation AND transition to "evil" make sense as Darius is being held at gunpoint. There are several dialogue options to show your annoyance/dislike of the crew up until this point, and Mila's past outside a spice trader has been ambiguous. Adding a 4th option to "Betray" the Dread Pirates and join up with Rourkie is not only something Rourkie would enjoy, knowing his character and dislike of Darius, but also fit for a petty, vengeful re-imagining of Mila. It is already hinted that Mila might think Darius attacked and sunk her ship to get her coin. Why not react in a petty, almost childish way to get even and slowly come to realize she enjoys looking out for herself more than others? It would align her personality and transformation closer to Rourkie's crew, but still allow room for her to change their crew from the inside. Not redeem them, but remove some of the harsher edges and make them evil in a likable way.

Just some food for thought. Absolutely adored the rest of the game.

I've really had fun with this game. I picked it up as I was looking for games with some kind of LGBTQ+ content that wasn't just romance, and I was won over by the art style and sucked in to how many different endings there are. I just finished my first play through and I have got to say, I love this game.
It took me about 3 hours to complete one play through, but this might vary for you, as this depends on the speed at which you read and click. I think 3 hours a for a single play through is a good middle ground (personally), that way it doesn't become a huge time sink, while there still is enough time for the writer to flesh out characters and bring them to live, which this game does an excellent job at.

Pros:
The writing is really great.
The characters have actual personalities.
The music was great.
The choices you make, have real impact.
The choices you make, really have you wondering: "what if I did things differently?".
The romances are a nice bonus.
The transformations are great.

Cons:
The romances could have been fleshed out more I feel like. The approaches some of the characters make on you feel kind of random.
You'll have to deal with black borders if you have a 16:9 screen.

Verdict:
I recommend you get this game, if you like furries, visual novels, good writing, transformations and romance.
I'd recommend it even more so, if it's on sale.

This game is fantastic, The art is amazing, The story is fantastic and the Characters are So well made, they all have their own reactions to certain situations, They have different depth and they are all love able. The voice acting is also very good, Though its not all the way through the game, I imagine that would've been extremely expensive with all the different characters and their variants or alternate selves. I highly recommend this game for its outstanding story alone, Even if the games contains Things you don't like the story and characters are worth buying this game alone.

I wanted to like it but I just find the game so boring, not sure if it's the writing or the story itself but it's lacking something. The choices it gives aren't clear either on how the protagonist is going to respond which get's irritating. Oh and ever once in a while you will have audio along with the text, not consistently, just here and there.

A wonderful visual novel with a great story and plenty of wonderful character designs, beautiful music and lots of care to make you care for the characters among its many branching paths, with the dlc adding another possible path for the characters that is satisfying to explore.

I highly recommend this game if you enjoy interesting characters, quirky humor, and a story that makes you think about it even outside the game.

Pros: This is a very charming, well-written, and very quirky choose your own adventure game that only takes a few hours to get through one path. The characters are all very unique and I love all the changes that happen to them depending on your choices. Unlike other choice-based games, this game encourages choosing obscure options just to see what shenanigans takes place. There was obviously a lot of love and skill put into this game.

Cons: As with any choose your own adventure game, eventually you'll find out that you can get similar outcomes regardless of your choices. However, there are more options in this game than others I've played and the DLC story added more variety.

An exceptionally charming and memorable game. It has its limitations, in some cases disappointingly so- but it has many hours of content and is worth playing multiple games. Still enjoyable after multiple playthroughs, too.

For someone whose been having an issue engaging with games that urge me to take them incredibly seriously, a goofy chose your own adventure with transforming furries really hit the mark. I'd say the only issues I had with this game was it would have rather abrupt tone shifts which were rather jarring, as well as it not letting some scenes breathe diminishing their impact.

Really worth the money. I didn't buy any of the DLC's this game has yet, maybe I will. The base game is really a fun experience if you enjoy furry, fantasy or pirate themes and rather great story telling. The game is just a good story with many choices. I like it, what I don't like is that most of the transformations end, and by most I mean most with enormous WEIGHT GAIN. I'm not saying being fat is bad, I'm saying a game where you have an opportunity to implement so many fun transformations and just flatten that ambition with making all transformations basically the same because of weight gain. No slim snake. No lean bird anthro. Fat angel, fat cat, fat dog, fat shark. Wish the game would be more diverse and not limited to the creators fetish.
EDIT: After some time in this game and experiencing alternative stories. I suppose I was mistaken, there is just as many slim and differing transformations as there is those with weight gain. Still, this game is a great story to check out, you're the one making the choices so explore and you will find a great ending and Mila version as I did, heh.

The game is really good. I love it. Recently After an abnormal shut down of my computer while I was playing. I can not play the game anymore. There is also a debug file in the folder. It contain ERROR:settings.cc(263)] Settings version is not 1. Can anyone help me? Even after I have reinstalled the game, I still couldn't enter the main menu.

Excellent game!! Loved the characters, the setting, the plot-- Haven't gotten every ending yet, but, lots of content here and very worth your time. Disclaimer if it hasn't already been said but this is a game that has SFW transformation, magic feeding and swole furries. Has a lot of heart though and even if you're not *into* that, there's a reason for it being there, so it doesn't pull you out of the story much, if at all. One thing i'd like to say is that I was not expecting voice acting here-- and though it's not present often it's done very well! Music drowns it out a little by default, but that can be fixed in the options, And speaking of options, this game opens in fullscreen by default, so you'll have to change it to windowed every time you boot it up, if that's what you'd prefer. Other than that, I honestly didn't expect to get so attached to the characters and the story here! well worth your time and money. :3

I'm gonna start with the praises:

The art is really nice, some of the transformation sequences (the ones with comic-like panels) are cool, and the premise isn't bad. Plus, there's a TON of different routes and endings and the team deserves props for that.

Unfortunately, I found that the writing wasn't as good. The rythmn of the narrative feels really weird, sometimes it doesn't seem to make sense that the characters went from point A to B, they just did. There's also the classic issue of when the dialogue option doesn't give you a good clue of how the protagonist actually responds.

The more serious problem for me was the limited system options. I know, it's a visual novel, not exactly the most system heavy type of game, but exactly because it is a game with so many options, going back to replay and choose different paths becomes a bit of a chore. A chapter selection would be VERY welcome, and I'd appreciate an alert when a dialogue choice is gonna change the story. It would at least help me manage my saves better. Also a lot of scenes with full ilustrations don't get a spot in the gallery, and that felt very disappointing, since the art is one of the high points of the game.

I definitely appreciate this game for what it is and what it gets right. But in all fair criticism, I can't say is a satisfactory package to me.

Overly 7/10

The writing is really good and the characters are good, but occasionally bad voice acting, and then the fact that it seems that most endings and romance sequences are very abrupt, brief, and anti-climactic and overall disappointing (even if the romance art is good and there's one that involves pie which is really nice).

art is cute and romance options are very adorable. NOT FOR KIDS obviously....Morgana is my favorite character.

It's cute and fun. If you grew up with 80s/90s adventure cartoon serials, this is basically that - but a little hornier. No, there aren't any outright sex scenes, but it does explore mild sexual themes. I do like it, though; the story's better than you'd expect to find in a visual novel, the art's neat, and the characters are mostly memorable with their own personalities and some depth. It's also rather responsive to your choices.

The one big negative is that it managed to crash twice for me in less than two hours, somehow. Perhaps the coding just isn't up to snuff.
