Some mind boggling puzzles and cool visuals. The story can be kind of hard to follow and some of the puzzles are unclear and unsatisfying but other than that the game is great!

Short, but very fun game. I did expect one more area of puzzles, and was kind of frustrated that the last area was just for story. Still, I enjoyed the story, game play, and tone of the game, so I can't complain.

Thoroughly enjoyable escape room experience. It really plays with the fact that it's in VR, and does things you wouldn't be able to do in a real escape room. Much recommended!

So wonderful! Puzzles are not too hard but really quite good!. And the environments... my god, really wonderful. A must own for VR users.

Great puzzle game! Loved each "chapter". So realistic. Grabbing items was not always easy, especially trying to let go. But graphics was great. Really easy to get caught up in the story.

Really cool VR experience if you love the lore and visual style from the previous The Room games. Played on the Valve Index

It's a great atmospheric VR puzzle game. Not long, about 4 hours, but the puzzles are unique, mostly fitting its environments. There are some mechanics which work well in VR (playing with scale/size). If you get stuck, it has a hint system. Only issue I encountered was with one rope which had to pulled by both hands (swapping between them few times). VR on Linux has its issues, but I had no problems with this game. Played using Index on Manjaro.

Lots of fun. However, you have to make sure that you're physically always facing the same direction, otherwise it will change the way the camera's oriented every time you teleport in the game and you'll have to manually turn yourself around. It's hard to explain, but the game would always turn me around when I teleported, as if I were walking backward into rooms, and every teleport had to be followed by me manually turning back in the right direction, until I figured out that that didn't happen if I kept my chair always pointed in the direction of my starting position.

No wonder this game is constantly critically acclaimed and at the top of the charts. It is a really great puzzle game with some cool gameplay and creative mechanics. My only complaint (if you can call it that) is that I don't like only being able to teleport. I like some free movement locomotion in VR.

Regardless, this game is a lot of fun, it is quite pretty, has a cool mood to it and the puzzles are challenging without being ridiculously difficult and frustrating. Very much recommend. Looking fwd to more games from this dev!

(Index user) Top 5 of all VR titles I've played, and easily a solid 9/10 for me!

An incredible VR experience, it feels perfect for this style of game (Red Matter, I Expect You to Die, etc) and The Room series especially. My only gripe is that it is shorter than the other Room games but since it's a made for VR title, I can give them a pass here. If you've played the previous The Room games, this takes place after 3 but before 4 (I believe) and explores the world even further. It's honestly so incredible, I started asking friends who have never played VR to come try it. Teleport movement to determined locations, so I never got motion sick, and while there are plenty of creepy parts, I don't recall any jump scare gimmicks.

Price is a little high for a VR title and, honestly, that held me up on getting it initially. After playing through it, I was fine with the pricing because I would have paid about the same amount for 1 hour in a real escape room, and my friends can come try it as well.

Also, please Fireproof, make another VR title like this! This was so good! I've been chasing this high ever since!

Once again Fireproof Games have developed a complete gem of a game. Having played their previous four games my expectations were high. The puzzles were challenging (for my old brain at least) and in some cases I had to delve for some clues, and indeed google - only to feel like a complete idiot afterwards. My only grumble is I (selfishly?) wished the game was a little longer for the money I paid for it. As you can see from my hours it took 6 hrs gameplay to complete it. Would I go back and do it again - you betchya. Will I still need access to clues - sigh, probably. I hope to see more room games and in the future especially in VR.

Short but sweet. Definitely a VR must-play. No replayability, though.

Very atmospheric, with great visuals. One or two of the challenges are moderately tricky but otherwise not too difficult to keep making progress. I would say that the challenges are fairly well balanced so you do not get hopelessly stuck.

On the slightly negative side it is a little on the short side and probably the easiest part of the game is the last chapter

On the whole I enjoyed it very much especially as a first foray into VR and look forward to the next investigation.

A great little VR puzzle experience. Pretty quality throughout and doesn't outlast its welcome. The ingame hint system doles out appropriate clues if and when you want to look at them--there was only one part where I had to look online for on a silly thing where I couldn't figure out what the clue was even talking about.

The Room is a great fit for VR with its satisfying tactile puzzles. The witch's hut is one of the most memorable and atmospheric places in a video game. The game's expensive, just like most VR games, but a good escape room would cost you much more per hour.

SadBunny
SadBunny

I got me an old discarded Rift from a colleague. Then I noticed that The Room had a VR installment, so I didn't hesitate and immediately dove into it.

Man, is it everything I expected. A baffling experience with EXTREME attention to audiovisual details. The sound design and graphics details are simply out of this world. Amazing.

Be sure to look around, and duck and bend around corners etc., because they put LOTS of nice little surprises in many places you may not immediately look. Little notes of paper with fun details, books under desks etc.. So much to explore, if you just take the time.

It's an exiting adventure (not horror/jumpscare exciting, just alice in wonderland exciting), full of well-balanced puzzles, amazing twists and turns, a great story and some awesome map design, beautiful sound and music. It's simply hitting all my spots. They really did themselves justice.

Is there nothing to complain about? Sure... They could have done more puzzling things with the hand interactions, e.g. object manipulations, gestures, I don't know, something more than just gripping things. And the movement system, with the jarring teleport and swiveling, feels a bit clunky and outdated and takes away some of the otherwise awesome immersion. And puzzles are always a question of taste, but they feel a little bit on the easy side until now. But those are just small things and in no way should dissuade you from diving into this sensory overload of VR puzzle goodness and pure audiovisual bliss.

Having originally played all of the mobile games and loving them, the bar was kind of high for this one.

Fireproof knows how to create a solid puzzle solver, and this is no exception. My first recommendation is this. If you are new to VR, this should be one of the first things you play. While it's a great game, it also is a great introduction to VR with how easy the mechanics are.

The puzzles are very well done, and aren't impossible. The only exception to this may be the organ puzzle from the church, because that was incredibly frustrating.

My only complaint with this one seems to be how vague the story is. I realize this is done to retain that air of mystery that this series is known for, but at some point along the way I became completely lost. That's kind of how it's been in the majority of these games. You are on the track of a scholar, priest, investigator who is trying to find more information on the Null element, and as they keep going the very fabric of time and space seems to fall apart. But that isn't the end of the world, the game is so good it gets that free pass.

100% recommend, for both gamers and non-gamers.

A fun, short little escape room/puzzle solving experience. The full game could likely be completed with 100% of achievements in 2 hours or so, provided you don't get stuck on a puzzle or lose track of what you're supposed to be doing. Some of the VR interactions (e.g.rope-pulling) were clunky, and it wasn't immediately clear which objects were background and which objects were supposed to be interactive, but I still found it enjoyable enough to finish.

Grab it on sale, use it as an introduction to VR for your friends and family, and you'll get plenty of additional enjoyment out of watching them try to solve the mystery!

NERDGASM FTW!

On a more professional note:
I have been a fan of Room series on my mobile; I've played them twice with some years inbetween. I like the hidden in the details approach to these puzzles and the quality of the work.
This game sets the bar to another level, I really liked the perception of actually fiddling a lever in different angles with my hand rather than on-screen touches or mouse movements.

It is like picking a lock with an actual tool and hand movements rather than spamming WSAD at needed times if you get my drift :)

Krauvando

While expensive, it is a must-play if you have a VR headset. The game is as immersive and enchanting as the trailer presents it: a sort of escape-room chambers with mysterious and magical tools and mechanisms.

If you haven't played the other The Room games you'll do yourself a favor by doing so, and they will also give you a full insight on what to expect with the VR version.

I've played it with an Oculus Quest 2 and there were no issues at all. The full experience is around 3-5h which you will enjoy a lot. I also recommend using headphones if you have the chance in order to fulfill the whole immersion package.

Yet another great game from Fireproof Games. While it seems like a side story from the others it still fits as you are put right in the middle of the game's world more questions are asked but never answered which can still build mystery. Playing The Room in VR is an interesting change and it in fact increases the fear playing it mainly because while The Room series never did jump scares, in VR you almost feel like something like that could happen. I hope Fireproof Games continue with the series either in VR or not I will still play the games until the end and replay them as well.

Holy cow. Now, I'm new to VR and I've only seriously played two games so far - Assetto Corsa and The Room VR. Both are AMAZING. I have a laptop I'm playing on right now, and while the game initially said my laptop wasn't optimal for the best experience, once I disabled anti-aliasing, the frame rate was superb. On my gaming rig (12th gen Intel and an RTX2080) I expect no issues at all. VERY pleased with this game.

Although short and a little on the expensive side for the amount of time it will take you to finish, 5.4 hours for me though I spent a lot of time just looking around at the artistry of the game, I would certainly recommend this one for those who own a VR headset. The story fits in nicely with the rest of the Room Series though you are playing a different character from the previous chapters. Other than a couple fragments of story or locations from the previous chapters, the story arc follows its own path and you don't need to be familiar with the story up to this point.

Game Play is taken to a different level now that the puzzles are hands on. Most of the time, using my Index controllers work great for picking up an object or pulling a rope or lever. But there are a few spots where it does not quite work perfectly. Sometimes my inventory window would be too close or too far away resulting in a little difficulty grabbing puzzle pieces out of it. Or pulling a rope got a little monotonous after you hand over hand a dozen or so times, miss one grab and the thing goes the other direction as you fumble to grab it again. The only other gripe I have is when you would sometimes turn around using the thumb sticks, your view point would not turn around a center and you would collide with an object resulting in everything disappearing with a "Return to play area!" message. I was playing seated and had to lean forward a couple of times so that I could see again. Mostly minor annoyances that don't detract much from the enjoyment of the game.

I give this one a very positive thumbs up and I hope that if the developer revisits The Room series again that they will bring us another VR chapter featuring the detective digging deeper into the dark power of The Null.

WOW !!! after playing Room 1, 2 and 3 - I got my Room VR - and my jaw dropped off. This game in VR makes everything look and feel so real - I spent half of the time just looking around and absorbing it all. What an imagination, top graphic and of course the music makes it all a wonderful adventure I enjoyed every second of and was quite sad when I reached the end of it. I truly hope to see another VR game soon.

Kudos to the team - you made this game something to be proud of.

Graphics good and the game play was nice and smooth. Puzzles were not hard, (not Myst level hard), but were engaging. I am a great fan of teleportation mode of moving around in VR so this worked well for me. Took me about 11 hours to complete, but a large part of that time was spent looking around for fun. Will play it again and look for Easter eggs.

Whitewind617
Whitewind617

This is fun, but it's a little expensive for what you're getting. The game is short; it took me 3 hours total, and a lot of the puzzles are too simple, involving little more than just turning cranks, but there are some brain teasers. The story is also basically non-existent; everything is explained via letters you read with absolutely no voice acting or NPCs at all. The rooms you explore (four of them) are pretty cool looking at least.

VR wise this game is beginner friendly. Snap movement, snap turns (although you can make it smooth if you prefer) and No motion that's out of your control.

Buy this on sale only. It's not worth the full cost they are charging.

I highly recommend The Room VR: A Dark Matter. I am a huge fan of the series and a big puzzle fan in general. This game uses a well tested format from The Room series and expands on that into VR. The world looks and feels very nice, the environments have a nice amount of detail but also run very smoothly. Together with the audio, both the ambient sounds and the interactive sounds of mechanisms, you get a real sense of immersion and an incredibly spooky and thick atmosphere, great for transforming you into the world of The Room but no so daunting it distracts you from the puzzles. I never felt scared but often during cutscenes or scripted parts, very uneasy. There are some very nice special effects used that really help make the world more believable, whether it be liquid that sloshes around into a flash you carry with your hands, and can pour out. To whispers of ghosts moving through cutscenes leaving trails of mist and fog, and of course the tentacles that grow out of objects and consume them, animated brilliantly.

The interactivity of the puzzles has been altered so that it's easy to manipulate with VR controllers, there's less box type puzzles with many tiny parts to interact with, as they'd be a nuisance to play with tracked controllers, those puzzles are kept clean and more simple in appearance, but no less difficult as a puzzle. Many of the same tropes and ideas that you know and love return.

You can play seated or standing, it took me about 3.5 hours to complete in 2 sittings and like most puzzles games, if you're competent you'll completely them quickly, which means as value goes it's best to wait until this is on offer. With a slight discount it's OK, but full asking price for 3.5 hours I think is a bit steep. My only real complaint is that these games typically end with a final chapter that's a lot harder than the previous and this felt extremely tame by comparison. Very much looking forward to more The Room games, or anything more from these developers.

I loved this game, I don't play VR games very often anymore and I had bought this game A while ago after starting the previous Room games, as I was thoroughly enjoying them. I finally tried this game (as I admittedly forgot I had it) recently and I've not enjoyed a VR game like this one in a long time. The feeling of being in some of these environments were amazing. I highly recommend this even if you haven't played previous Room games, but I also recommend them. Didn't encounter any glitches or problems with the game.

HiveMind
HiveMind

It may be short (took me 4.5 hours to beat fully) but it's excellent. I can't wait for the next one! It has very accurate manipulation of objects, the difficulty is reasonable, and you can play sitting.

My only incremental wish is that it allowed for full motion versus teleportation as that would bring you into the game further.

In LOVE! What an amazing experience this game was. Portions were just challenging enough, though it did become a bit tedious on the home stretch. Coming from someone with a Master's in Archaeology, this was pretty dang fun! Naturally, I'm into the mystery, puzzles, and the brief Tomb Raider/Da Vinci vibe. Moving onto similar games like A Fisherman's Tale, I actually appreciate the point-and-click movement The Room has as opposed to free roam. It is nice to be able to get as close and personal in a VR surrounding as possible, but it can also waste time and draw you away from the task at hand. If that makes sense - it works well here! I highly recommend.

This latest entry in the Room series is a great game in itself and VR done well. VR is such a natural way to play a game where examining complex objects from multiple viewpoints and then manipulating them is the core mechanic. The ability to lean and/or tilt your head to look at the side of an object (or even walk around it to see it from the side) adds to the fun.

VR is core to this game and not an add-on. The inventory management works well, the interactions with objects (limited to those objects necessary for puzzle solving) are pretty natural and logical. At one point I had to reach into a hole to pull out a living creature, some of the puzzles were only solvable by crouching, tilting my head to the right angle and pointing in the right direction.

You get around by teleporting to specific locations and it's intended to be played mostly in a static standing or sitting position, but I played it with a room play area and walking around things to look at them works fine, although it's a good idea to walk back to your original spot before teleporting.

I've seen people saying the game is too short. IMO, it is not. If you don't act like a speedrunner and don't look at clues every single chance you have, this game could easily entertain you for 4-5 hours, replayability is pratically 0, but the game is REALLY well made and there are a ton of mechanics, there's never the same thing twice. Also, the price tag isn't abusive. If you like VR, good gameplay, puzzles and incredible visuals, you should buy it NOW!

Ever since playing the very first "The Room" game when it first came out, I have been a big fan of the series. Fireproof Games keep knocking it out of the park with these games! The "The Room" franchise focus on puzzle mechanics, and have traditionally done these very well, and in interesting ways. The gameplay experience on mobile devices with touch screen have been stellar, and one of the very few high quality, story and puzzle focused games you can play on mobile. I mention the past games as a reference to the challenge of moving a game concept from one interactive medium to another, in this case a display with touch or mouse controls and a curated array of camera angles in game, to giving the player complete control over the camera and two motion controls. It is a different system entirely, yet the Fireproof team have done a great job of translating the concepts and gameplay of the series over to virtual reality. This new virtual reality title "The Room VR: A Dark Matter" has a lot of highlights, and it feels like a genuine "The Room" game. The puzzles are great fun to solve, and when you struggle with that, the clues are helpful without being too revealing. The graphics are very good, a series staple in fact. They have also implemented a few neat physics mechanics. Motion controller implementation is good and modern. Although control of the camera is in the players hand, you are not fully allowed to move everywhere. The game features a teleport system to the different places where the puzzles are. This is not really a bad thing, as this keeps you informed of all the possible places to be, avoids you getting lost, and keeps you focused on solving the puzzles. In that regard it is a valid gameplay decision. The different in game locations are of good detail and variation. In the end the biggest weakness with this game is that I would have liked it to last even longer. The puzzles are great, and I really would have appreciated more of them. I think Fireproof Games first entry in virtual reality is terrific, and I hope they consider making more!

My Library has been filled with all of the other Room games for quite some time, however, I recently was able to finally afford getting a quest 2, and using virtual desktop, play this game. Man it's so worth it. The story is connected to the rest of the room games, so it's recommended that you play The Room 1, 2, & 3 (4 is unrelated to this storyline it seems) to really know the characters, some settings, etc. But even if you don't want to do that, still a *fantastic* game. mix of puzzle boxes and rooms, basic escape room stuff, but very dramatic lol. The ambiance manages to be creepy without ever actually scaring you bad, just constantly making you feel like you're being watched or someone's about to jump you or something, so pretty good. Honestly, if you've got a headset, and a decent graphics card (I ran this pretty well on a NVIDIA 1660) you should love this game, if you like puzzle games at all

P.S. Really recommend if you do use virtual desktop to play this, make sure that the quest has good signal, and that whatever computer you use is hooked up with ethernet, specifically. Tried to use wireless, and it worked, but was really stuttery, and like to freeze up sometimes, which is uh, not pleasant.

Excellent game! just what we wanted out of a puzzle escape room.
Egyptology, ornate churches, witches cottages and dolls houses are all my favourite things, great to see them all in one game.

I rarely review. This game is worth the money, and I say that with zero memory of how much it costs.

Fireproof finally solve one of my least favorite aspect from the previous game, the transition in-between and with in puzzles. The difficulties is probably the easiest in series, I wish there are more single complex puzzle instead of bunch of mini puzzles, but the overall experience is still the best in series.

If y'all have access to VR you should get the room vr. The room is my favorite game series cus it's like all of my favorite things, it's a dark academia, eldritch horror puzzle game where you have an eyepiece that lets you see hidden things from another world. It's a super immersive game series as it is, there's a lot of behind the scenes world building but just enough to where it adds to the air of mystery the games have, and the VR game is literally everything about the games accentuated, obviously more immersive, the puzzles are super cool cus you get to interact with them with your actual hands instead of just clicking on stuff, the atmosphere which was already incredible in the other games is off the damn charts, one of the best gaming experiences I've had

Literally the best escape room game on VR that I've played. I've also played the mobile games and they were just as good! They do get a little challenging but nothing that a hint can't help with. Graphics are amazing and its a good storyline. I will admit I am a scaredy cat and though there are no jump scares, the game did make me very uneasy at times which isn't a bad thing. 10/10 highly recommend!

I saw people comparing this to an escape room. That's pretty accurate. You're paying for about two hours, maybe three if you get really stuck, but its a good few hours. Most of the replay value is either months later when you've forgotten things, or making other people play through it. If you like puzzle games, and like this series, definitely pick it up.

Super nice graphics, a bit spooky/chilling but no jump scares, and puzzles are not that hard, but hard enough to require a hint maybe once per level.
Each area is very unique but eventually you get used to the mechanics which help solve future puzzles
Highly reccococomend
