A short and sweet puzzle game. Perfect length, and the metroidvania aspect makes it less tedious than the puzzle genre usually is.

Trying everything on the Steam Deck # 3

A cool palette, move the mimic. Musty and dank Sci-Fi puzzles. The usual meme of science nerds playing with toys they don't understand.

Note For The Deck: Perfect, though the controls take a minute or two to set in.

- The cumulative transmission of experience from generation to generation. 8.5/10

This is like the "Alien Cat 2" puzzle but made in an open world platformer.
A fun mirror image/clone puzzle game with just enough difficulty to be fun and not too easy to be boring. The whole game is a bit short, and the story is a bit too nerdy for general audience to enjoy... and to top that up, the game achievement is tied to finding the secrets of extra unimportant data and not about completion of the game or the puzzles themselves, that makes the whole experience pretty unrewarding.

Recommended if you like mirror image/clone/multi-space-time-dimension type of puzzle game. But the difficulty isn't as hard as others out there imo... So don't expect too much from it.

Great story and puzzles, definitely play if you like philosophical puzzle games. Only qualms are that there were not that many hard puzzles, and map controls are jank.

This is a fun scifi puzzle game where you make a clone of your self and swap to solve puzzles. Highly recommend!

YoshiRulz

Confusing story. Puzzles are fine. 100% (Steam achievements) is missable, but there's no NG+ so you have to play the whole thing again, but it's not worth it at all. It's just 10 extra hidden lore fragments that are mostly rehashing non-hidden lore. They certainly don't wrap up the story as they describe what happened before the events of the game. I'm very salty.

By my God's Grace:
I liked the concept and mechanics, the puzzels were fun and challenging, the story could have had a few more engaging moments (it had a little "Metroid" feel to it) - all in all, a game I would definitely recommend to others!

Ended up using some help from some walkthroughs but otherwise a very straight forward game with the game play. The story was interesting.

I feel like this game does successfully what something like Braid attempts but fails to do: a challenging, evocative, charmingly handmade puzzler that uses both its mechanics and its textual elements to grapple with philosophical questions. Doesn't wear out its welcome.

Enjoyed the lonely and unsettling atmosphere during the first third of the game, and the story had some interesting elements, although it wasn't anything special. Also some cool puzzles.

Rindenberg

The Swapper is a great puzzle-platformer with an amazing atmosphere - and a slight identity crisis.

The puzzles - which are at the core of the gameplay - are fun and well designed. They all rely on the "Swapper", a device which allows you to create clones of yourself and switch identity with them. None of the puzzles were unfair or tedious, which is a rare thing in this genre. They are designed around tight spaces and elegant solutions and gave me plenty of those "Ah! This way!" moments. They are held together by an incredible dense atmosphere, with brooding or melancholic ambient music, fuzzy lights and empty corridors, nailing this lost-in-space feeling on the head.

Sadly, the game suffers from the desire to be too much at once, since it also tries to put a huge emphasis on exploration and story, managing neither in the end.

The overall level design is clearly inspired by Metroidvania-games, with plenty of corridors, a rather free choice where to go next, and a whopping 6 different ways of transport (on foot, through swapping, elevators, big teleports, small teleports, and transportation pipes). However, unlike Metroidvania-games there is not much to explore - no secrets, no extras, only some additional lore here and there. This makes exploration rather dull, and I could not escape the feeling that some of the later game segments did only exist to stretch playtime.

The story on the other hand is way too deep for the game's limits. The "Swapper" poses questions about the nature of the soul, and at the same time you'll engage cosmic rocks which engage in philosophy via telepathy. Games like Talos Principle were able to show that you can tackle such things if you give them enough room to breathe and to think about. The Swapper, on the other hand, just throws catchphrases like "What is a soul?" at you, which comes out more shallow and uninspired in the end than it probably was intended. There is also another story branch going on, but it is kept equally misterious and only starts making sense within the last 5 minutes or so.

Overall I would have enjoyed the game much more with less emphasis on story and exploration and a bigger emphasis on the puzzles. Because in the end I did not have the feeling that I did everything you could do with such a simple and clever puzzle mechanic - I'm sure that bigger, more daring and multi facetted puzzles would have been possible easily this way.

This sadly also applies to the replay factor: I would love to see the puzzles again one day, but I don't know if I will have the strenght to slog away at the story and running around again.

Tl;Dr: If you love puzzle games, and if you are a connoisseur of isolationist deep space atmospheres this is a no brainer. If you find space boring, or worse, if you just want to simply puzzle for an evening, you might want to look somewhere else.

I beat the game in three hours with 100% puzzles solved (did look up the solution to one puzzle so there's that). Not worth fifteen dollars. It does have an interesting narrative about consciousness, but nothing really groundbreaking, and even that doesn't make up for the length and the price tag.

We find ourselves in a sci-fi adventure where we have to use a device that allow us to solve puzzles transfering our essence to cloned bodies to the point where we find asking ourselves what makes us being conscious, if we are beings based on the inside or on the outside only.

A dark and gloomy vibe helps to be inmersed on this fantastic narrative. Of course, we are not alone, but you'll have to reveal the truth by your own.

The clay aesthetics do not work for this type of science fiction, as the player character's movement looks wrong. The voice acting could be much better. Additionally, I was required to use a controller to play, since there is an unfixed bug that causes the mouse not to respond (see the discussion forums for plenty of other players encountering the same thing).

Give it a go! It's beautiful looking, has a solid story, clever puzzles, and that's as much as you can ask from a game. In the world of AAA titles it's important that we keep the smaller titles alive because they're traditionally better than most AAA titles. Indy games have a huge heart and this one has it in spades. Play it!

Great little indie puzzle, very atmospheric and genuinely difficult puzzles with a very basic premise of create clone, teleport between clones as its basis. The story is a bit convoluted and honest I still have no idea what happened, but it was fun none-the-less.

Easily a top 20 puzzle game for me of all time. Why you ask? The game is just so vastly different than any other puzzle game I have played before. Basically you have to manage switches by creating clones that stand upon them. Certain spot lights on the puzzle level will block you from either making clones or teleporting to clones past said light cones.

The graphics and sound are top notch! The so called models in the game are actually derived from hand molded / manipulated clay. It truly gives the graphics a sense of organic design that I have never felt in any other game.

Dice_24K
Dice_24K

For what it sets out to do, this game is pretty solid. Nice puzzles and atmosphere.
If I had any complaints, they would be:
1) The achievements... so obtuse.
2) What's this game doing to my mouse? Why are you so obsessed with my mouse? For crying out loud, leave it alone! The problems immediately started when the game told me to input a name for the save file -> and it only worked if/when the mouse cursor was right on it -> and my mouse was fixed AWAY from it -> so I spent MINUTES to type up a name instead of like 3 seconds.
So... yeah, I switched to controller. I think that's the plan. Other than that, it's a fine game.

The meat and potatoes of the game are puzzles with very little filler. If you enjoy having to think to get through areas, this game might be for you. Some puzzles are challenging and can be frustrating -- timing is also important in this game. While the story is not super long, it can take several hours to complete.

The story-telling is remarkable. And anything that deals with "consciousness" on any level, has me interested.

This was a solid 8 hours for me to complete using no hints being of slightly below average intelligence so well worth it on 90% off.

Really good concept with a slow progressive story element to it. If you're a fan of Portal then you'll probably like this game as well. From the great/unique hand made "graphics" to the mind exercising puzzles and great philosophical story, this game won me over from the start and is one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

A metroidvania puzzle game, this game was on my wishlist for years and through countless steam sales before I finally pulled the trigger. If that sounds like you, do yourself a favor and buy this game!

I just recently replayed it on my steam deck and the game is still wonderful in 2022! Puzzles get progressively harder and there are some real head scratchers that are so so satisfying when you finally figure them out.

Weaving in the main mechanic of making and swapping clones into the storyline was a philosophical thought experiment brought to life in a video game.... Absolutely loved it!!!

Takes 5-6 hours to beat. I highly recommend it!!

God I have no idea how long this game has been sitting in my library...
It's a total gem and I'm so happy I tried it.
Atmosphere is 10/10

It's short which is a big + these days
And the puzzles were perfectly paced (for me at least)

theeastwind999
theeastwind999

A thought-provoking platformer with well-made puzzles and some deep philosophical questions. Does just having thoughts indicate sentience? What is the nature of a soul? Would you still be yourself if your soul left your body and inhabited another? What are you willing to do to survive; moreover, what SHOULD you do to survive? Is survival worth the cost? Are you still human?

If you want a relaxing, linear experience solving puzzles and contemplating fundamental questions of our existence, this game is for you. This game is perfect for people who like putting together pieces of information to discover lore, because the story is notably and purposefully twisty and ambiguous. I'd recommend playing through it twice; the first to just experience the story, and then a second time to appreciate and realize more about the story. Don't worry; the game is short. Altogether, I spent about 6 hours for two playthroughs.

Yes, the game is a touch stereotypical, but considering that it was originally released in 2013, it has held up extraordinarily well against the last decade's rapidly growing inclination towards deep philosophical questions.

Even if you're not great at puzzles, you'll enjoy this game; it isn't too challenging. I myself am not great at puzzles that require this kind of thinking, but I got through about 60% of the game without having to look up a walkthrough, and then on the second playthrough, I was able to do all but three of the puzzles without a guide.

If any of this appeals to you at all, I'd urge you to give the game a try.

I've tried to start this game numerous times, I just don't like some of the puzzles, particularly the ones where you have to 'swap' bodies multiple times, in mid-air with a high degree of precision, or you fall to your death. Within 30 minutes of starting, there are already 3 or 4 of these types of puzzles. You know, the type of segments that require you play them over 3 or 20 times, or whatever, until you get it just right. You can't go further if you don't.

It's a shame, because the mechanics are clever, but from the very beginning of the game it's evident the designers have chosen to rely on frustrating, repetitive puzzle design. This could have been a lot better.

Sledge Hammer!
Sledge Hammer!

I came back to play this 9 years after it's release and it's still just as fun as I remembered. The puzzles are clever (Portal level), the claymation-type graphics are fun to look at, and the sci-fi story is intriguing. I only feel bad that these developers never made a sequel!

Nice looking/feeling little game with satisfying puzzles. The aesthetic is dark, cold, eerie, beautiful. It's not very long, took me around 7 hours to finish. The puzzles are pretty fun, it's nice when you enter the chambers where they are because you know you're gonna enjoy them. I'd say like 2 or 3 puzzles were tough enough to make me spend some considerable time thinking about it. Something I should have done at the start is enable the subtitles to fully understand it.

The game is looking like another puzzle game on the surface, but as you keep playing, you reveal an original and intriguing story. Although the mechanics of the game is nothing creative, it plays smoothly. The only problem with this game is the mouse pointer being stuck in places that you can solve by choosing compatible-compatible under the beta menu of preferences.
