I love playing this game so much. . .
But one of the main reasons I spent $40 on this game was to play with my friends, who happen to be PS5 players.
Now because of hackers that i've never encountered before they decide to just straight up quarantine the PC players WITH the 'hackers' instead of everyone dealing with them until the anti-cheat is fixed.
I can deal with balancing problems and crashes but this shit genuinely ticks me off.
Game is a blast to play. Doesn't matter if you are victim or family both are fun. Family does require a bit of communication which can be frustrating as a solo player. Strong map knowledge like many games is very important, sadly there is no offline mode to learn the maps.
This game is really fun, however there are too many cheaters at this time (buy once the problems have been fixed, they removed console-PC crossplay as a result for now).
Playing family is my favorite - Downside, if you play solo queue, the victims tend to escape really fast, you should use VC to chat with your team
Victim is also fun to see how long you can survive and test different playstyles. Each game isn't quite the same due to the maps and asymmetrical set up, as well as your opposing side.
Treat this game as a casual game, like a movie and don't worry about winning or losing and you will have fun!
i genuinely do really like this game but as of september 5th, 2023, 2 entire weeks after the games launch, the game is plagued with various issues:
bugs where you are completely unable to move
bugs where you get stuck inside of objects
bugs that allow killers to infinitely slow down a victim
balancing issues
and now theyve removed crossplay because of the small minority of pc players who are cheating. my friend bought a new gen console to play this with me and now crossplay is gone.
Putting a negative review so the game devs adress serious issues that have been ruining the experience. Beside the cheaters, the weird game breaking bugs that lingers everywhere might be the worst of all.
I originally got this game to absolutely slay Victims as the family and thought it was alot of fun. Ran a few Victim games myself and enjoyed those a little too.
Then the lads got on, and suddenly Victim games were just as fun, I got to work on Leland and went for a Grandpa Stabbing Build, I recommend this game.
Do not buy the game. The game has too many cheaters. The developers 'fix' is to remove the crossplay feature. Console can play with eachother but now I cant play with my friends. Yes, great fix, remove a core feature of the game and my ability to play with a squad Im comfortable with. This is not the right fix. FIX YOUR ANTI CHEAT SYSTEM! Also, if you come across this comment use me as the dislike button for cheaters across the gaming communities.
Genuinely one of the most fun games I've played in a long time. As a huge fan of Friday The 13th game, i could not wait to play this. They also gave 10% off preorder which i have never seen in my 13 years gaming. I cannot recommend this game enough if you're a fan of Friday or DBD. I hope the future of this game is bright!
This game is intense and bloody based on the classic and insane 1974 horror film of the same name The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a game where 3 players take on the role of the slaughter family while the other 4 take roles as the victims trying to escape i been looking forward to this game since i heard it was made by the same people who made Friday The 13th the game this game takes it on a whole new level where instead of 1 Killer there are 3 chasing and trying to find you and won't stop until you are Dead! for people who are Texas Chainsaw fans i recommend you check this out!
They took out cross play. They stated that's its only temporary but it easily has to be the worst decision they could have made. It makes every game super sweaty and just unbearabe. Played a few games and all of em were under 2 minutes....Uninstalling until they bring cross play back. Not to mention a lot of my friends got it on console so we could play.
[Pros]
-Intriguing chases for both sides that can make them feel more important and scary than DBD
-Game focuses more on stealth and avoiding the family
-Skill tree and characters
-Voice chat
[Cons]
-Repetitive starts and strategies
-Lack of maps
-Most of the matches is just looking for victims or hiding from the family which causes boredom.
-Bugs
Fun game ruined by redditor devs who think its a better idea to remove crossplay, a marketed selling feature of the ($40!) game, rather than implement a competent anti-cheat system. False advertising, don't support this.
https://www.txchainsawgame.com/hub/crossplay-explained
"Our user reporting will function seamlessly with crossplay." So let people report the supposed cheaters (my group has not run into any in our ~10 hours) and let the rest of the vast majority of non-cheaters go back to enjoying the game based off the features advertised. Incredibly stupid decision.
Removed crossplay and has not had any balance updates in 3 weeks since release. Also the devs are basically silent with anything to do with the game. Huge indicator of this just being a quick money grab.
stressful more than enjoyable
no proximity chat
lots of running around obstacles to get survivors
cumflated with bugs
shitty animations that take so long
no facial expressions
repetitive tasks
crackdowns on pc gamers by removing crossplay
in conclusion
as a survivor: you hide around like a squirrel
as the family: you look for squirrels in bushes
do not listen to any of these morons giving it bad reviews for bs reasons. this game has been out two weeks. let it breathe and get its footing for 5 seconds. This is a solid game that is a fresh take on the Asymmetrical horror genre. This is a solid game and worth trying out!
Game could be fun but was released in a bad state. (and is still bad)
Even after the first patch this game suffers from frequent UE4 crashes, players getting stuck in walls, frame rate/stuttering, hackers, chat issues, XP gain issues, server disconnects and much more.
On top of that, lots of gameplay problems. Cutscene mid match causes gameplay issues. Bug with one family member gives them extra damage, and another breaks the animation of victim models. Door stun exploits in basement allow victims to perma stun family members. The ability to start a match without lobbies being full resulting in a 3v3 or 2v4 match.
Add to that many poor Dev decisions like disabling crossplay for PC and all of the things I mentioned above means don't waste your time with this game.
Was fun... until disabling cross play for pc as a fix to cheaters. You should have had a decent anti cheat in place before release. There are cheaters in all games on ALL PLATFORMS.... your should have had expected this issue. now you have to wait 20+ minutes to find a match 99% of the time. Ya! no Thanks....
This game needs to be balanced. Killers have too much stamina and are able to enter the basement too fast. Victims don't have enough time to scavenge for lock picks before being double teamed by killers.
Add an alternative escape for victim is they are the last person alive. Killers are camping exits not giving victims a chance to attempt an escape.
Grandpa should not be allowed to trigger the victims aura if they are the last one alive. Its an unfair advantage especially when there are not escape alternatives.
***NERF KILLERS***
I'd be down to play this more it's not a bad game but the killers are so overpowered and easy to play. I can play Bubba with no levels added and do well enough to kill victims that are level 10 maxed out. Ontop of that when it's a full 3 man of killers vs a random 4 victims it's just ridiculous and makes me want to leave the game in the lobby. You get caught by one of them and all 3 just come running at you. (The victims were stupid but I got a 3 piece with Bubba before any of them even got out of the basement too and multiple times at least killed 1 or 2 before they would get out of the basement it's insane how easy it is since Bubba can nearly 1 shot)
- Endurance vs Killer Stamina: I can max out my stamina with a victim/survivor and it is great however despite the fact some of the Family/Killers can't get through every gap or hole or obstacle like all the victims can it's still insane how easy it can be for them to just chase you across the map. I can go through a small gap and with the 1-2 seconds it takes me to fit through it a killer can already be around the building entering in from the other side. My stamina can renew quick with it being maxed out however playing killer I realized it just pops back to full in a couple seconds.
- Perks: A good few of the perks are very very situational and are pretty useless until they're leveled fully.
- Maps: The maps overall are really good but with 3 killers it's just difficult to even try to do anything. I can open up 2 exits both exits being timed but if I run to one a killer could be camping that spot and potentially murder me quick enough that I couldn't outrun them unless I was Julie or had Endurance perks. So if this situation were to happen then I'd need to sneak or run all the way to the other exit I had opened as well and sneaking could run the time out and I'd have to run to reopen it whichever way is required or run and another killed pop up and chase me alerting the other 2 killers to come and follow me as well resulting in death.
I've had a killer disconnect even making it a 2v4 and I still do enough to take out atleast 2 or 3 of them.
There's a ton more I can complain about in irritation but overall TLDR killers are just not fun to play against ESPECIALLY when it's a full party 3 man. It's just such a low chance in surviving solo and even with a group I've died in less than 2 minutes playing with 3 other people. Or playing solo and having a duo on my side and they just get hung up to be butchered in less than 5 minutes.
It's a situation where it's not all based on if you know what you are doing/skill but just how the game plays and unbalance.
EDIT: Forgot to mention for some random reason they removed PC crossplay due to cheaters? I ran into 1 so far past couple days ago which was a Sissy player who was invisible and teleported to each victim and killed us in under 3 minutes.
I've been really enjoying playing this game, however now that cross play has been taken away, you can really tell when there are cheaters in your game. It's really annoying and disappointing. It was more fun with cross play, but because people have a need to cheat on a slasher game for whatever stupid reason, all of the other PC players have to suffer because of it.
Really enjoying my time so far. I bought the game expecting to refund (before the 2 hour mark). The first night I played, I ended up playing for 3+ hours. They have a few different maps (3 right now). Some things are buggy, but the game is definitely still playable. I can see myself playing for 100's of hours, earning the points to level up the characters and get the perks unlocked. Playing with friends is a blast, playing solo is a bit rough, especially when your teammates do not use the in game voice communication.
The one unique thing about this game is that you don't just spend points to unlock a stronger level of a perk - you have to use the perk and gain experience in it to level it up. Its a nice change from getting the strongest version of a perk right when you use it for the first time.
About 17 hours into the game and I can say with a bit of confidence that this game is fun, though could use some extra love.
Disregarding the first patch while they currently address people bypassing Anti-cheat by disabling crossplay for PC, there's still much to enjoy, with fast pace gameplay and quick decision making. I would say this game does much that keeps you on your toes.
Pros:
Customizing your character does have a notable impact on gameplay, depending on the survivor you can feel the weight of your attributes and perks.
Maps can be as confusing as it gets, but it adds to game by having you search about and seek tools, or victims to slay.
Learning curve isn't impossible to pick up, and you don't need to be highly experienced to escape.
Cons:
Progression System is honestly my biggest gripe. Getting Skill Points takes a very long time which isn't very noticable at early levels. But once you're at lv. 15; the progression quickly falls apart.
Being unable to play the same character can lock you out of victims or killers you've invested your time into. Often forcing you to play characters you've otherwise neglected. In my case; I've only got two characters who are moderately leveled. When they're taken up by someone else. I'm forced to play at the bare bones.
It is possible to get killed quickly in the early game as victims. Characters with low health can be one-shot by Leatherface if they are poorly caught. Which can feel very grating or unfair. I would hope something could remedy this so people aren't just KOed by a singular mistake.
There is a notable bug with Sissy that, with the right combination of perks. She's capable of killing victims if she lands a single blow. This results in reducing all movement speed to 10%, making it impossible to flee even when sprinting. This has been addressed but hadn't been fixed yet. This makes playing against Sissy almost impossible if you're not playing as Ana. Even Leland's special ability cannot buy enough time to get away.
This game has a HUGE amount of potential. I enjoy playing this. Hiding isn't cripplingly bad as Killers have tools to reveal you. Stealth and cunning plays are great for both sides. I'd hope these issues are addressed and looking into new solutions to make gameplay more smooth, and make it less grating to level up lesser played characters.
good game but i feel like i spend more time in the lobby than anything else. and when you want to play a specific char you need to swap request or spam leave and search lobby till you can finaly play after 5 min lobby countdown because somehow alot ppl dont ready up ever.
I love when my developers remove core features, I also love that because I live in Australia I constantly get booted for "Ping" time being too large despite not have a single setting or option I can change to affect this despite my internet being completely fine otherwise.
As a leather face, start from basement.
Victims did not keep quiet as trailer, they just be SUPER LOUD,
equipped two bone scraps, stab you in back, door slam you afterward.
I'm afraid of victims,
not afraid of family.
Not at all.
Crossplay turned off for pc player due to cheaters in pc pool. Not a surprising decision considering for the first two weeks that the game was out you couldn't even customize keybinds. Makes you wonder if the devs even play their own games.
There's plenty of other reviews that highlight what bugs are present, some game breaking, some just dumb that they're in place at all so I won't bother with them, just be aware that they exist without any sort of tracking. They have also confirmed no road-map, take of that what you will.
Even assuming the game was free of bugs (which it isn't) the balance just really isn't there, every game seems to be heavily one sided. Against uncoordinated survivors, there's no real challenge, just rush towards them and you win. Against coordinated survivors they're out and free before the gramp cut scene has played and stunned Bubba. Although it's difficult to fully blame balance due to the subtle hacks people have freely been using.
The perk system in the game is a little strange, allowing people to freely respec their trees but having random perk nodes that could be any perk. Which essentially results in repeated respecing until you get the perks you want, I'm unsure why a 'choose your own perk' system isn't utilised rather than wasting 20 minutes for something useful. Not to mention a few perks don't seem to work at all.
The matchmaking system seems to be a trial and error approach from the devs, rather than any actual system for matchmaking they recommend leaving lobbies if you don't want to risk a 6 player game. I can't imagine the long wait time for a game isn't due to play count, rather than seemingly randomly throwing players into half full lobbies without any sort of 'pending' time to work out where best to place 7 people at once.
A lot of the good reviews for this game are saying 'It needs some polish but it'll get there. Have some patience'. It's a $40 game that has had 3 months from tech tests to resolve these issues and an additional 3 weeks of it being live. Instead they shipped a game with debug functions and without any sort of anti cheat on one of its platforms.
I'm not even going to mention cross play removal since it never should have been an answer to a hacking problem they created.
Aside from the above issues, there is a solid foundation for a fun game with friends (unless they're on console.) If they start to resolve the bugs that people have been raising for months then perhaps it will be more enjoyable
I wouldn't part with your money in it's current state.
Last patch ruined this game. PC-Players are excluded from others because of cheaters. Now PC-Players have a small community left, with probably a higher chance to throw in with cheaters.
They just released this game with Easy-Anticheat only for Steam, seemingly. All the gamepass-players play without any anticheat. What a great idea. The most players are from this gamepass from X-Box and PC, so of course it was a bad idea from the beginning.
I dont think will ever buy another game from this company/devs.
very fun and non-competitive, able to escape easily as victim if the family doesn't work together, but some characters could use ability buffs because everyone just wants to play connie and nobody wants to play leatherface.
