The White Door is probably one of my favourite RL games. Such a cool story and premise, with a fun new perspective and puzzle types. Great if this is your introduction to the series, or if your a long time fan.
A long term fan of the rusty lake series. The White door was a different take a slightly easier than the original games. But still 9/10.
Having played every Rusty Lake development over the last 7 years I enjoyed this recent instalment. Slightly easier than previous games, and only took 100 mins to complete. However this doesn't take away anything from the game-play and story-telling.
I recommend you buy this game to support the developers. However if it is your first Rusty Lake game I would recommend starting with any of the others first!
This is my very first game wherein I have to go outside the game and look for clues online, not walkthroughs or gameplays, but genuine clues that you have to use to get certain combinations and answers that tie into special achievements. And boy, it was worth the effort.
Another great game from Rusty Lake, which I am a great fan of.
One of the most simple, but still with that signature introspective feeling behind it all.
Not so hard to solve puzzle, but still enjoyable.
Overall, what we really enjoyed playing this game is the narrative.
More a piece of interactive fiction than a game. Though the mechanics are in line with other Rusty games, the friction is fairly forgettable. I do like the format though, and it is executed nicely in the white door.
There isn't much exposition but I still felt like the experience had an effect on me. I'm not sure what level of intensity they were aiming for, so I don't know if this should be considered a success or not.
My favorite part of this game is the music, which is haunting. In fact, I'm about to look up which other games this composer has worked on and play all of them.
Not the biggest fan of this game. I got this game because the idea of a puzzle horror interested me. This game was too short, the story was not interesting and it was very boring. Some of the puzzles were a bit challenging but all were doable. The achievements were a bit easy to get. I was able to fully complete the game within an hour or so. Save your money. My over all review is a 3/10.
I found this game to be pretty interesting. The overall base story was intriguing and I liked the puzzle aspects as well even though challenging at times. Additionally, I liked the two other alternate endings that are available especially the one where you need to look outside of the game in order to find the answers you'll need to solve the puzzles. That arg was the coolest one i've seen in a game for awhile.
This was my first Rusty Lake game. It was a compelling adventure and quite unique. Figuring out the puzzle solutions was a satisfying experience.
I just love these games. Wish there were more, I have bought and played them all. Always keeps me interested until the end.
Another interesting Rusty Lake game. I love the simple and elegant art style, but the quality of the puzzles in general is a bit of a comedown from the Cube Escape and Rusty Lake Hotel ones. Many of them were actually quite poor, and several seemed to induce a bit of panic clicking to see what would work. But I applaud this entry for a couple of reasons: one is that the split screen system is very cool, and two is that there's a lot of tactile use of the mouse going on here, with drags of the cursor controlling the movements of the characters, reminiscent of games like Penumbra and Soma, and it doesn't just feel like a gimmick. Also, the story and how its characters link in with the Cube Escape and Rusty Lake games is very tantalising, making me eager to continue exploring this series. I am nowhere near fully understanding the timeline yet, but the story is starting to fit together. Looking forward to the next one!
Wow. Again, Rusty Lake gave when asked. In the more emotional end of their games.
i didnt finish coloring the bird and he said it looks cool
I really really liked this one. I thought that is was really great and told a nice narrative that helped to continue to connect the story of Rusty lake. Getting all of the achievements was also a very awesome task which was a lot of fun.
For getting the last few achievements I did not play the ARG to get it and I feel that it would have been a bit difficult to do so, so I did look up a guide on how to do it.
A really good game. It has a good story and good puzzles. The premise seem like it would get monotonous but it really doesn't. Really captivating. Good game.
Actually a neat game about depression and moving on in life. While it doesn't overstay its welcome there just isn't much in there. For the price of four dollars, you could get a burger instead and leave more satisfied.
how deep this game goes with irl stuff and everything makes it worth wayyyyyy more than $4
I enjoyed this game because of how replayable it is. This and Paradox have been my favorites so far. And if you've played the other Rusty Lake and Cube Escape games, this is a must play. It fills in some details about other entries in the series, but in a way that enhances the enjoyment of this game, and how I reflect and will replay the other games. You have 100% this game to really get the full experience. This is a shorter entry for sure, but it was nice to be able to wrap everything up in one go.
WONDERFUL GAME!!!!!!!!! TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!!! 10/10 RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!
Well, if I'm being honest, I hadn't heard of Rusty Lake at all.
Thanks to some reviews from friends, I became aware of it and of course I bought it right away in the summer sale. But I didn't realize that the game was also by Rusty Lake and when I was looking for a shorter game I came across the White Door while browsing through the library. Since I like to play puzzle games of all kinds from time to time, the decision was relatively easy for me.
If you were to ask me what kind of game it is I would say that The White Door is a drag and drop point and click adventure and if like me you also look at the (negative) reviews of the game you'll come across statements like "repetitive" and "routine."
Well, The White Door is about mental health and the daily routine that goes with it, among other things. So what can I expect from a game other than one that's all about routine, which, as the word suggests, always consists of the same processes? I don't know enough about the topic to be able to say more about it, but I know that this is exactly what is important and The White Door shows that quite well here.
As you can probably already tell, I loved the game and Rusty Lake has a new fan.
It's not easy to write something about the game without revealing too much about the story, but I can tell you this:
You slip into the role of Robert Hill, who doesn't know where he is or how to get there. As the game progresses, it turns out that Robert had an accident and just can't remember it. But the deeper you dig, the more unclear it becomes whether it really was an accident and whether there may be another reason why Robert's memories have disappeared...
Routine is important
I think The White Door shows quite impressively how important it is to establish a routine. After a short time you feel safe because you know that nothing can happen to you. The routine means there are no surprises and you quickly adapt to the simple surroundings. Nevertheless, you keep noticing things that are actually not supposed to be like this. As a result, you experience quite a few phases with Robert that help to get all the memories back. Nevertheless, you are left with a few questions at the end and you think about what was true and what wasn't. Was it just a dream or did it all actually happen?
The gameplay with the drag & drop mechanism is something different than in some point & click games. For example, while in cutscenes the narrator says that I'm having a sip of coffee, you pull the cup up, or when I go to bed or get up, I pull the covers up or down accordingly. These interactions run throughout the game and as a result I'm in the middle of it instead of just an observer.
Puzzle and riddle fans get their money's worth here because the game is full of all conceivable puzzles. Some are quite easy to solve, while others are a real challenge.
I didn't know what to expect from The White Door and in the end I was totally surprised. If you like solving tricky puzzles, this game is for you. The frustration factor in some puzzles is there, but the puzzles are not unsolvable and I think the price is more than fair.
And if you should get stuck, here you will find an excellent guide to the game
MY PROS AND CONS:
✅ well made story
✅ tricky puzzles
✅ Matching graphic style
✅ Drag&Drop
❌ technically not entirely perfect

I haven't heard of Rusty Lake at all but decided to pick this game up along with Milo and the Magpies in a bundle. Nice little gem, incredible art style, it's more of an interactive story at times rather than an actual game, and I feel like most puzzles might be a tad too easy. I definitely recommend picking it up. Finished it in about 2 hours.
Rusty Lake games are, as usual, creepy with fantastic music and and amazing art style - the achievements can be tricky, but the puzzles are too hard -nine out of ten stolen cheese wheels
i loved all Rusty Lake / Cube Escape games, but this one is so tedious.
Great art and unforgettable interaction
Love the double-screen setting and the storytelling
I really liked the game, but i did not find a single star.... and there are no glues or videos, on how to find them
Might be the best game in the series!
It has a lot of thinking outside the box and very unique puzzles, and an interesting and captivating story about a side character from the series.
An interesting, albeit short story.
The White Door is another point & click puzzle game developed by Rusty Lake. The game play is kinda repetitive but I guess it needs to be like that for the story that they wanted to share. Otherwise, I personally found the puzzles not very challenging, and the art not very appealing.
best 3 hours of my life were the 3 hours i spent playing this game.
rusty lake does not disappoint
Kisa, kafa acan guzel bir oyun.
nice thoughtful game with nice artwork.
One of the weirdest games I've ever played in my life! I really enjoyed completing all the achievements and discovering that it's also an ARG.
While my expectations were low, I was still disappointed by the effort from Rusty Lake's The White Door. Occurring mostly in the same white room, the game tackles the idea of loss and mental health in an interesting direction that unfortunately not only misses the landing but then attempts to fly another plane right afterwards. Many of the puzzles are either as simple as clicking the right area of the screen or annoying and illogical. Much of my grievance comes with the game's lack of narrative in the main game, which it relegates to its secrets. That in itself would be okay, but the final secret leads to a now defunct ARG which has no discernable weight on the game. I ended up looking at a guide for these moments, and it ruined my opinion of the game as a whole. Other than that, the music is quite literally one-note, and the art is passible. I liked being able to figure out the secret objectives from the achievement names, and some of the unraveling of the room's secrets were fun, but even at barely two hours, the game feels like a waste of time. The White Door is a misstep I will definitely forget about soon enough.
I love game from Rusty Lake. In every game, you must use your brain. Somestimes you don´t know how to do, how to collect all achievements, but this makes game so good.
First of all this a very unique concept and in my opinion a good game to play. A split screen... mostly in black & white give this game an old-school; but modern feeling in the same way. A good and clear story, logical puzzles and not difficult to finish to the end without any help... Only all achievements/stars are mostly unreachable without any help; because there are no real clues in the game how to finish them... So the achievements could be better or at least build in a hint system in the game to reach them. There is also a secret achievement 'the basement' and that's mostly impossoble to do and extremely far searched; however It was interesting to read how everything was reached... Yes a phone and a website out the game are necessary to reach this achievement, if you want to do all by yourself... However... an original, creative and good game to play through, but the achievements are extremely hard without clues and help.
Short Indie Adventure game, liked the story and the puzzles. was hard to unlock the Achievements (thx to YT about that) otherwise enjoyed it.
my rate to this game 9,6/10
May we all find the colours taken from us.
The worst part about this game is probably how the achievements take away from the whole game-play experience itself. From being intriguing, it becomes about mere achievement hunting. I wish I could've loved this game but I do not.
One of the easier and shorter games of the "premium" Rusty Lake series. However, its intriguing puzzles and storytelling make up for it. I can't exactly see this played as its own standalone experience, but it's a great introduction to the amazing Rusty Lake games. I give this game a 4/5
Very repetitive with not much to it, it's just storytelling that requires you to click and drag once in a while.
This was my first Rusty Lake experience and wow, I won't be playing another. Short, vapid, thoughtless, and meaningless experience.
Another great small story from Rusty Lake. I've been fan of their semi-sad, semi-mad stories back on android. But now it's also on Steam... Sometimes I feel like these are stories of real people. Just converted into surrealistic story line and drawn in a very simple but clever way. Main story isn't hard at all to go though and enjoy, but just you try to gather all the stars... :=)
One of the most artistic story telling game I've played. The puzzles are not that hard but the achievements provides the difficulty some people might be looking for.
A different art style than what is typical for this series, but it was refreshing: especially because the content was different enough to justify the style. Good puzzles and an intriguing storyline, as usual. Can't wait for The Past Within!
A game implies gameplay, of which The White Door has none.
love the games from rusty lake 10/10 would always recomend
Play this game for what it is, not for what it isn't.
The White Door is a short & sweet point and click puzzle narrative that explores themes of remembrance, pain and loss. Most of the puzzles are quite intuitive while some take a couple minutes to figure out. I found it to be a simple and enjoyable game definitely worth my $2.
A mini game that has challenging puzzles but not so challenging you get frustrated.
Very interesting game! Had lots of fun trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. Very clever! 9/10
It is a real piece of art, It is worth every second i spent on it, It has a calm dreadful feeling lurking in the gameplay that you can not help yourself but to feel lost and give in to the story, Do play it, you won't regret it.
Really boring. The Voice acting was terrible. The story is broken up, confusing, and I had very little to care about character wise. The ending was bland. Puzzles were simplistic. At least it had the courtesy to be short.
Fun coloring game, only one drawing to color tho
"The time felt different to me, like I did not only lived that moment, but also my past."
I had finished this ages ago, forgotten how cryptic it was.
I really enjoy the fact how ALL of the Rusty Lake games are connected with each other
I like this game for its simplicity and different way of offering entertainment.
This is like the extent of point and click (only) design, silky smooth connection between clues as always.
Impressive ARG. Sincerely touched when scrolling down the list of names who found the black cubes, as well as those petitioners.
i loved it :) also theres an arg website for this game if you haven't seen it already http://mentalhealthandfishing.com/
A solid proper classic room escape type of game, all the puzzles are well designed, the difficulty levels are just about right, not too difficult that you lose the will to live! LOL Not too easy that you get bored instantly. One of the best puzzle games I've played.
It's a lovely puzzle game, which is not too hard and not too easy.
Some achievements are a bit of a challenge, especially ''the basement.'' However the work they but in that one is impressive! Take a look at the website http://www.mentalhealthandfishing.com/
And remember the past is never dead.
Short but good. Price performance is right. The game offers a good dark atmosphere.
This was one of the best Rusty Lake Games. Felt very well thought out and it feels like one of those old flash games you played as a kid so its weirdly nostalgic.
I loved it when dale vandermeer.
All style, no substance. I beat this in 2.4 hours and I was waiting for it to be over near the end. You play as a man in an institution. You are trying to piece together your former life, but the game does not give you a real story. It just shows you random fragments which are open for interpretation (ie: random weird stuff happens with no explanation). The charachters are basic shells and I didn't feel invested in any of them. If you like melancholy/creepy randomness, this game is for you. If you're looking for a story, look elsewhere.
Fantastic story. Of course, mental health and fishing always paired together.
I have played all of the rusty lake games to date, this one was very different but such an amazing game!
The game in and of itself is a nice puzzle game, but man, if you have played the other games in the series and are able to connect the dots, this game just gets more and more incredible. There are so many different layers to this game (and the series in general) that get better with the more insight you have into the rusty lake universe.
Definitely recommended! And if you have the chance, do a rusty lake marathon to really get an understanding of the hidden connections.
If this was Elite 8 Showdown, A podcast where two buddies talk about 8 things, I'd give it 4 stars. But it's not. It's a game. Not a Podcast. I'd rather listen to Elite 8 Showdown. This game wasn't good. Play something else. It'll probably be better. Oh and listen to Elite 8 Showdown. Or don't, whatever, it's not my show.
Love the art style and the different ways the story can be interpreted.
Just play it, it's an enjoyable experience.
If you like a puzzle game you might like this. To me it felt a bit repetitive, the only thing to do is click and drag, and therefore it felt frustrating to me.
i can't get enough of this series!
I really liked the story, but remembering puzzels and too repetative made it quickly boring for me. If you like repetative remembering games, go for it.
Great story, but I felt it became tedious at one point which made it seem longer than actual play time. It's not bad, but Rusty Lake has made better puzzle games IMO.
This is my type of game, so I found it very enjoyable although a little short.
Do you like memories?
And white?
And, on a completely different and unrelated note, lakes?
Really interesting puzzle-type game. It's a point-and-click and you are basically trying to figure out what the heck is going on along with your character. It's a fairly quick play from start to finish but there are hidden achievements that I certainly intend to go back and try to explore. Each level is basically a day in the life of this man who is apparently in the process of losing his mind (of sorts) and you can return to any particular level to try to find whatever you may have missed. I enjoyed it, the puzzles are interesting but not maddingly difficult. I say give this one a go!
a fun puzzle game that keeps you thinking
Pretty good puzzle-story game. Very atmospheric
Speechless... They are all connected...
Has more Twin Peaks vibes than Deadly Premonition, sorry
i really enjoyed this game. it was very interesting and fun to play. the puzzles weren't too hard and the story is fascinating.
A clever and haunting puzzler with unusual game mechanics. I felt I had admitted myself for observation... Enjoyably creepy. Recommend.
Simple, but really good. The story grew on me as I was playing it, it was wonderful
This game has lots of secrets, Lore, interesting Puzzles and lots of (Amazing) Confusion. The white door is a sad tale of a man spiraling into loneliness and sadness. but something darker lays underneath.
The past is not dead, its not even past.
I will play anything they make. They now their stuff!
Mind blown by Rusty Lake. Again.
Good game, but achevements are imposible. You can easily finish the game without getting any,
Another great entry into the rusty lake series! This one how ever is a little more of a slower paced game that more emotional then scary. Over all a great game that anyone that who haven't played any rusty lake can still really enjoy.
Brought some color back to my life while helping Robert Hill bring some back to his. 7/10
this guy has a better morning routine than me
Yet another beautiful entry in the Rusty Lake franchise. This time we get to see the events from Robert's side, and find out more about what happened to him. Also you can tell that the developers wanted to do things differently in this game (the third person view rather than the usual first person, split screen environment, mostly white colors etc.) This definitely changes things (both positively and negatively). It offers a nice and unique gameplay with an interesting plot. However I believe that with these changes, the eerie and odd atmosphere is toned down a lot compared to the other games in the series. It could have been a little bit more. However, thanks to all these changes, I think you could still enjoy it if you haven't played the rest of the games. So it has something to offer for both the veterans and the new players. Overall, it is still a decent Rusty Lake experience, and I recommend this game to all.
Bueno, qué experiencia más rara
what a sad and dark story but I truly enjoyed playing it!
A masterful exploration of mental health through the surrealist and now expected creative madness from the folks at Rusty Lake/Second Maze. This time furthering the story of an otherwise very minor character in the series, Robert Hill, exploring his grief and sadness as a normal man wandering the crazyness of this franchise. The art style is fantastic and the sound design, music and voice acting are the best in the series. The morst starightforward story yet, but still very enjoyable and bittersweet.
The puzzles are not as challenging as the previous game in the series, Paradox, but that's more than fine, given that this game had a *phenomenal* ARG in it's first few days of release, involving a literal worldwide search for real black cubes! A wonderful experience I was a part of and one I'll never forget.
Happy 7 years to everyone at Rusty Lake, here's to many more! And now we wait for The Past Within!
Neutral recommendation if I could.
If you've played the other Rusty Lake games then this is worth the download to continue the story/experience of those games I guess. And the story telling method, with the two different panels, is enjoyable enough.
With that said, this game is a somewhat stark departure from the previous games in the series. While the puzzle elements are there, there is a greater focus on a general "click/drag to progress the story" game play mechanic vs making you figure anything out. So this one is going to feel much more like a minimally interactive story to you then the previous ones did.
It's also a significant departure in terms of style and mood as you can probably tell from the screenshots. While still dealing with the elements of the Rusty Lake series, this one is less dark than the previous entries. Which may or may not be to your liking.
And finally, if you haven't played any of the other games in this series, this shouldn't be purchased before playing those. So keep in that in mind.
This game is so well made! The concept is creative too. It is unlike any other game I've played, and I will definitely be recommending it to other people :)
forever fangirling for Rusty Lake games
I've been a big fan of the cube escape games for sometime, and this doesn't disappoint.
Another entry in the Rusty Lake series, another review.
Different feel
If you've ever played any of the previous games, you'll find this one rather short and different both stylistically and gameplay wise. In fact, you'll control your character in a room on your left and on your right you'll be able to interact with what's in front of you, changing the formula.
Personally, I didn't mind the change. It felt different, of course, but it felt Rusty Lake to me even if different. You can clearly notice the UI and animation quality is improving a lot as different games are released and you'll most certainly notice this here.
Puzzle difficulty has been toned down a lot, as you'll almost never need to use any walkthrough to reach the end.
A bit short
I know there are many secrets hidden within, but the main storyline can be completed in a couple of hours, even less... which is not very much, considering the previous installments. At least what's being shown is really important to the Rusty Lake universe and I believe you'll find it very interesting too.
The atmosphere is always really good, and the music was on point.
In other words...
I recommend The White Door.
If you're an experienced Rusty Lake player, you'll find this game short and different in ways you might not like. I've played every game, and I've still enjoyed everything it had to offer. It's easier and shorter.
But if you haven't played any of the previous games... I wouldn't recommend it. Not that it's wouldn't be for you, but rather because it's deeply connected to previous entries and you wouldn't understand much. Still, the series is really cheap. Really cheap. I would recommend getting the whole series when on sale.
With that said, we're not over yet and I can't wait to see what The Past Within has to offer.

This game was great. At this point I've played and reviewed every Rusty Lake game I can get my hands on and I sit (not so) patiently waiting for more. I know art takes time, but Rusty Lake is my favorite in every way. This game was a bit different compared to their other ones in the fact that its all White and you are not switching scenes in a left-to-right fashion. I'll be honest the color scheme was a little hard on the eyes but that is really the only 'bad' thing I could say about this game.
A fine game...
If you want to understand Rusty Lake universe you must play this.
Puzzles are average ,unlike other games from rusty lake.
Story is good but not that detailed as usual from the studio.
"The Escape level" is the only part where you use your brain. That level was the only interesting thing in this game.....
Only worth it if you're still interested in the Rusty Lake series. Interesting way to tell a story though it was a bit light on the puzzles. Achievement design is getting worse. Clicking on a certain part of a screen at a certain time that has nothing to do with the rest of the gameplay is just a measure of how many people randomly clicked it or followed a guide.
It was beautiful, strange and shocking, I loved it but cheated some times because I got stuck and didn't know how to continue and I also cheated some achievements because I didn't pay attention to most of them 😅😅
really short took less than 2 hours to finish. BUT there is some post game playability with the option to play as someone else. as usual it's kind of cool-morbid entertaining so, recommended.
It's not a should play but it's not bad.
A unique and fun game that tell a very strange but fun story.
Another great addition to the Rusty Lake family!
Got to love Rusty Lake games keeping it weird. If you enjoy the other games in the series then I am unsure why you are even reading the reviews just get it. If you are new to Rusty Lake games then enjoy the puzzles, the madness, and the sheer weirdness of the journey as a whole.
An artistic, bizarre, surrealistic, legendary, epic and romantic puzzle series (with some ARG elements). Spent bout 50 hours of good time with this series game. If u love detective stories and some brain works, this is the game for u.
Recommended play order (chronological):
a, Samsara Room;
b, Cube Escape Collection 1 to 6 (From Seasons to The Mill);
c, Rusty Lake Hotel;
d, Cube Escape Collection 7 & 8 (Birthday and Theatre);
e, Rusty Lake Roots;
f, Cube Escape Collection 9 (The Cave);
g, Rusty Lake Paradise;
h, Cube Escape Paradox with DLC and the Movie;
i, The White Door;
j, The Past Within (TBA).
Dull, nonsensical and boring. The first Rusty Lake games had something, eerie and unpleasant, which I liked, Hotel and Roots mainly. The latter ones are, well… dull, nonsensical and boring. They stretched a lot more than needed a concept that only gave for a couple of games at most. Forget about the other ones.
