Tricky game. You have to build up your army so you can fight/capture other cities/provinces. Takes some getting used to. Decent enough.

Even at the stage of the selection of the faction I realized that I would like this game... These hymns, dude :D
Graphics for indie games aren't bad just like musical design too. an interesting battle system, this game makes the player scrupulously choose whom to send to the next fight. I like the battles so much that I forget to develop cities lol.
I hope I manage to capture at least half of the map today cause the battles are getting harder and harder, man.
I noticed a couple of oddities in the tutorial but that's all.
Thank you developers, I'll look forward to updates. :)

Well a few months have passed in the game and I can say that every day and almost every hour is important, cause you are developing rather quickly but not in the way that would be perfect. I advise you always keep your eyes on the map otherwise spies will kick your ass. You think like "yeah, right now in I'll build factories in this city!" but the city is blocked! But actually, it's even more interesting like this because it's not so easy to seize the territory. The game challenges you :)

If you like strategy, but are tired of playing in the real time, then you're gonna like this game. In fact, it's the same old strategy, but you can sit and think about the next step as long as you want, which card to put against the opponent. Excellent graphics, and it's cool that you can capture any city you want and that the plot isn't linear, cause I've noticed such a thing in many games. I personally liked the game more than an game where you need to kill zombie Nazis (so many bugs, dude). 10 uncrackable pillboxes out of 10.

I am still figuring out how to play this game. As of this moment i can say it is a pretty addictive and entertaining gem of a program. I recommend getting this program its way better than solataire.

Third Front - a card-strategy game in the setting of the Second World War.

At the beginning of the game we have a choice for which faction we will play. In total, there are 3 options: the USSR, Germany and the Allies. After that the game will start and teach us the main thing. How to buy cards (they are our army and equipment) and how to actually start and finish the fight.

The game has a very large number of game cards, each with its own indicators and capabilities in combat. We have to acquire different types of soldiers, tanks, airplanes, ships and protective devices. Each card can be improved by increasing the number of units in it and its damage.

But the card component is not the whole game process, the game has a very good microeconomics, so we have to equip liberated or captured cities by building factories, shops, houses and much more. Also, you will not be immune from enemy interference, you will have to look after your cities, beat off attacks and carefully think through your next step so that it doesn't happen again.

A unique card game with big attention to the strategic component.. A good purchase for all fans to think, fans of card games and fans of strategies.

It seems to me that this map will never end, it's a nightmare! I wonder if I will ever get through it. Now most games are pretty easy, the more time passes, the less interesting it is to play, and in this case the developers did a good job :)

First off you need to spend some time learning the game. I recomend the videos.
If you like military strategy with elements of a card game you will love the game.
Ive played just under 2 hours and im still learning.
I bought the game becuase i love military board games and the card play is a interesting way to carry out battles.

This game looked promising at first, but its it beyond shallow, it is litterally just a tiny step above rock paper scissors, you have 5 card types (Infantry/Tanks/Air/Navy/Fortifications) each card typically wins against 2 others and lose against 3 others. Theres no special mechanics theres nothing else at all what so ever in the game.

So if you want to play money to basicly play Rock Paper Scissor Lizard Spock. Then buy it, othervise look for something else.

This game is so pathetic. Core gameplay is broken, UI glitches everywhere. Steam should include proper developer profile, thus I could avoid cheap Chinese developers like this.

After 5 hours playing, released 38 reginons, maybe 13% in all, i felt boring.
Here is the reason:
1.Parliament level contrains the troop amount.
2.Released reginons amount contraints the parliament level.
3.When the ai get more and more troop, it`s get harder to win, and harder to release new region.
4.The battle fight is boring and kind of wastes time.

Hope you do better

I'm not a hardcore gamer. At the beginnining it seems like too much info to keep track of. however if you follow the tutorial and stick with it, and experiment with the balance between army and commerce, you will enjoy the game immensly. Like my favorite games, the basics are easy, but the overall challenge is huge. A lot of time and care put into this one. For the price I would highly recommend it. It allows you to stop, think, then proceed. And it doesn't bury you with too much information, and when the enemy attacks it just shows you the results, you don't have to sit through some boring junk. So it is basically always your turn.

I'm enjoying it very much.

Interesting for the first hour, mindless grinding for the rest of the game...
You win battles by matching enemy cards with countering cards. After a few minutes you know your cards and what counters what and the game becomes a clickfest. 250 countries x (at least) 40 enemies on average x click twice per card = Clicking the same few cards for at least 20,000 times to win the game x 3 campains that are basically the same

gaarq

initially, it looked good, relatively new approach to WW2 games, but as i advanced, it became more and more tedious and boring. the game does not pose much of a challenge - you just kill one after the other the armies of enemy, slowly (really slowly) you build up your economical and military base and that is it. you cannot get rid of initial cards, so new ones come really slowly, each lvl of the capital building (important for progress) takes number of boring battles and brings very few benefits. plus all the things already criticised - lack of tool tips, even the tutorial shows only half of the things you had to learn funlessly on the job. the game just relies on the player being able to properly combine some cards and then you just have them and it is all on and on and on with the same cards same boring battles. as it is not that difficult, my set of cards is able to kill almost anything game put before me. it feels almost like - wurck (bleh). sorry, not a game for me, and i cannot recommend it.

well what can i say apart from its a ww2 card game... fun and simple and worth the price however can get a bit repetitive but not to the point where it is just bad. the combat is simple and easy to use however dont expect any thing too deep or any heavy strategic plans to be used simple rock paper system.

only thing i wish the game had was a diplomacy system of sorts.

over all 7/10

CONS - no diplomacy, slightly repetitive and a bit shallow but a fun little time waster.

This could be an interesting game if fleshed out a bit more. The instructions are sparse and lacking in many areas. Even the tutorials leave you wondering what exactly you should be doing next. My main complaint is the UI which seemed to be broken in many places (Attack button not appearing, unable to scroll to see opposition unit’s stats, "Continue" buttons that did nothing, etc). Some hover-over type info boxes would go a long way. Combat is "place your cards next to the opponent cards, hit attack", resolved and done with no real explanation or reasoning why the battle ended the way it did. Will check back later to see if issues have been fixed, refunding for now.

Actually, what we are getting is exactly (or a little more) than what we paid for at the original price - a simplistic and repetitive beginner's wargame. Based on the positive Steam review numbers, we can call the game a success. But because I already have hundreds of wargames, most not even on Steam, I am not impressed and (my) money would have better been spent on the just-released Mius Front DLC.

Don't misunderstand - the art is nice, I like the card combat, but this is not Hearts of Iron IV, although that game has been heavily discounted and much worth the extra money.

This game needs more stuff to hold most experienced gamers' attention.

One of the worst game I've played on steam. It feels like a facebook game. There's no depth at all. Want to fight with ships on land against planes, or tank vs ship battles in the middle of the sahara ? well, then get this game.

There's also no strategy, the enemy doesn't move and every X days you lose a region, so it's basically a race against the clock (you have a time limit) with rock-paper-scissor cards disuised as units which follows no rule.

Bought this game for 1,99€ and refunded it.

Beer and Pretzel, thinking cap gameplay. After about an hour of touch and go I started making progress. The battles can be tough and a mistake can cost you a unit. There is alot of replay ability with the game. You can be German, Russian or British and there is a campaign with a small tutoral. I paid 1.99$ for the game and really got my moneys worth in time played. It is even worth buying at full price. A good break away from the mainstream. It would be nice to see this somehow worked into a multiplayer game.

The most unexplained game I've ever tried to play. No manual, and no way to really know what most of the myriad numbers mean. It looks awesome.... until becoming so lost it's only frustrating. Why won't companies just go ahead and make manuals the way they used to? If EVER there was a game that cried out for a manual, it's this one. Save your money and avoid the frustration.

You know there is something odd with a game if a WW2 Strategy game with cards and micro-managment has a description taken from a game set in fantasy world.
But, even with that, I decided to try Third Front:WWII, a game that combines micro management, strategy, and cards into one mix, made and published by Hamsters Gaming. And after playing it, I know why they used such description.

In Third Front you can play as a General of three armies, from which you have to choose one.
You can choose between Nazi Germany, USSR also known as Soviet Union and as Allies. Don't worry, each one of those is basically the same.
You arrive at the last moment, with a task to defend your capital, and after that, conquer whole Europe in less than 3 years, or enemy will develop a deadly weapon of mass destruction that will make them unstoppable and disallow you to beat them.

Gameplay can be seperated to Regions management and army managment plus combat.
You have to build up your army to conquer more areas, and at the same time, build your empire so you can get more resources called "resources" and credits called "credits" that you can spend on army, to continue expanding.
After conquering regions, you can "upgrade" your regions by building there.
Builidings are separated to 3 types:
-Factories that give you more resources
-Shops that give you more credits
-Defences, since enemies can attack your regions and if you won't have any defences build.
You also need to upgrade whole city in general to get more "building points" which will allow you to upgrade even further.
Each one of those has buildings has 3 levels, each costs more but gives you more when build.
To build, you need to have resources, credits, and building points.
Of course, you are the General so you decide if you want to upgrade a city or not.
This whole system is something typical and not fancy. Probably the worst part is, that game features 3 levels of defence when the first one, costing barely anything, works. Everytime.
So, why does game features more if enemies can't defeat regions with the first one? No idea.
Oh also, every region is the same, copypasted location.
There is no variety between port near Balkan Sea and city in Alps.
On top of that, there is about 300 regions in a game. So that is a lot of doing same, repetitive stuff, over and over, again.

The other type of upgrading is general upgrading.
Conquer specific type of regions to unlock upgrade for a main building of your army (Kreml for USSR, for example), which allows you to upgrade other locations, like banks that hold more resources, general defense of your cities even more, and it unlocks more ways to upgrade your army.
The only other thing that happens is your regions is minigame featuring you checking specific area for enemy agents, and you can also collect some resources and credits in that way. That minigame is probably the best aspect of the game. It's fun, but pops up rather rarely.
And game features 4 factions that you need to keep in best shape so they can work better for you.
Those are: Farmers, Soldiers, People and Workers. Along your fight you will have few choices that will either boost their morals and will be faster collecting resources, or will fall down and collect them slower.
It dosen't have big impact, if I am honest. It's good it is there, but it just...dosen't work. The only time it does something is when morale status will go to 0, in that way enemy automaticly conquers one of your regions.

Army management and combat is a bigger part of the game.
You have 4 types of units. Infantry, Naval, Tanks and Aerial. Each has 9 different types of units with specific stats.
One ship can be deadly for airplanes but deal no damage to enemy vehicles, another one can beat enemy ships but can't beat infantry. So you will have to choose wisely and combine them to have a perfect and deadly army.
You can upgrade your army in army trees, giving them basically more health, damage, or ammunition, upgrading them in the same way but in other tab, because reasons. You also upgrade their stations to have more "army points" which you use to get more units. The better the unit, the more points it costs.

Combat couldn't be more simple, and here game shows it's card part.
Units are cards which you place on battlefield. Shamefully, mostly that part of the game is a "check and match".
Check what percentage you have on x unit against y unit, check for the best solution, and match it.
While it is fun at the beginning of the game, when you have 5v5 card battles, later on obviously amount of them will grow just as your empire. So in the end, you will fight x vs 60, 70 or more, making each battle longer than 5 minutes. And the next battle after it is the same. Next one aswell. And you will do that about 300 times. It dosen't sound so interesting, huh?

Here is the biggest problem with a game. On short run, it all sounds cool and is fun. You build a army, manage a empire and let it grow...after 5-10 hours, when you do same thing for 100th time, having 20vs30 battles, and doing same thing over and over, it's..it's just boring. Annoying. Repetitive. You want something new, you know that next battle will be the same as that one before.
Hell, on my run, I even had same units against me. After getting 20 cards in my army, game decided I don't need to fight Infantry, and after that point I never fought infantry again, only ships, tanks, defences and planes.

Also, what makes a good strategy game? AI.
Here, it dosen't exist. It only tries to conquer your region from time to time (which I already mentioned, can be easily countered by making basic defense in a city), or adds more units to front lines as you grow, thus the bigger and longer battles. Expect that? Nothing. It's just there, waving hi as next failed attack on your city happens. Then again, it can't do much as game lacks content.

But it works really well, atleast.
Expect bugged achievements that can pop up out of nowhere. Did a campaign as Allies? Ah, that means you done other 2 aswell.

No coop, no multiplayer.
Other mods? "Campaign", which are normal battles, but you have to use specific units only, and match them to enemy types. And then win a battle. Nothing different from a normal combat in game, no idea why it is there.

Game has potential and concept, yet no content.
Too much of the same, copied cities with no variety, after beating 5 minutes long same battle I just did a minute ago.
Game isn't really bad, I had fun for first couple of hours, it's just too long, repetitive.
Not many people finished it because it's so boring, not challenging, mr. developer.
4/10. Less copy-pasting, more effort.

I paid 1.99 for a game about World War Two, and I felt ripped off. The game mechanics are clunky ( 'Realistic Graphics' meant pictures that look like trading cards, and didnt move) this has the feel of a pay-to win mobile game, which then doesn't allow you to actually pay. you simply have to watch as your opponent builds an army (before you can assemble anything) and crushes you. It was utterly infuriating, and I'm genuinely upset I wasted my time and money. 0 Stars.

Very casual rock-paper-scissors strategy-lite game. Grind through conquering provinces and aquiring resources to upgrade your forces bit by bit. Its okay.

Initially, a couple bugs were ruining the experience for me so much that I wanted to return the game and leave a bad review. I bought this for $2 and after pushing through a few bad bugs (and ignoring some poor design and lack of mechanic explanation) I decided for what I paid, I've easily gotten the value out of it. I'll probably play for a around 10 hrs.

I could write pages about what needs improving in this game. It's far from perfect. That said I find it completly addictive. This is a WWII-themed game, not a WWII simulation game. Think pokemon/MtG with WWII graphics. Units you build have an attack power of 0% to 100% against different types of enemy units, and generally have 1 type they are 100% against and at least 1 type they are 0% against. You cannot just use 1 strong unit of each type because each unit has limited ammo. The goal is to build an army and match your troops' strengths against their troops' weaknesses.

I like the core gameplay. I like the graphics. I do not like how the core campaign is implemented. (Note: The core campaign is an empire-building mode. The mode called "campaign" mode is not the core campaign.)

I did not enjoy the empire simulation because it has you in a straitjacket. You face battles that steadily escalate in difficulty with tme. However, you can't freely improve your armies. How much of each improvement you can have is tied to the level of your central building. But your maximum central building level is tied to how many territories you control.

Thus, if you lose a battle, you lose take a hit to the territories you control, and thus take a hit in your max central building level, which will eventually cost you the game because the enemy difficulty continues to steadily advance. The game would be vastly improved by either removing the requirements of a central building level for advances or tying enemy difficulty to the number of territories you control rather than time.

In summary: Good engine, good core gameplay, current campaign implementation is bad.

Pretty basic card game based in WW2. Problems is the poor game play. You start with one province and no cards. The enemy has 2000+ cards. You are restricted in the number of cards you can have at anyone time, they are not. As you get more cards they get double that. Your only advantage is technology but that does not give you much of a bonus. A level 10 card only allow you to take out a couple of level one cards. The AI also seems to be able to swap its cards at will as always has cards that you have no attack ability on. I am now surrounded by provinces that have 25 cards whereas I have a maximum of ten.

New to this game but its still really fun. got me into card games. also to the people who say this game is hard which is(but thats what makes it fun). also the campaign is really fun. the one thing i would like to be added in the next update is if you surround an enemy force it should not be able to replenish its forces(not campaign). all together good game though and underpriced!

Very addictive game. I'm surprised at how well it plays. If your looking for a relaxing card game with a world war 2 setting this game fits the bill nicely. The tutorial is a joke but that's okay. Part of the fun is discovering new features of the game. It really isn't that hard to figure out. I had problems with the display on my 29" ultra wide monitor. The game is very dull. Inhumanly drawn out to a great length. And obviously non-historic.

On the start, you can choose one of three sides: The Allies, USSR or the Germans.

Allies (Brits, French and USA forces combined) starting in 1940, when the Germans already control all the Europe to the borders of the USSR, plus Asia Minor, plus North Africa, plus Ireland and the most part of Great Britain isle - except two provinces. The game plan is to turn the situation around and win all the Europe back. And not only Europe but all provinces, as there are no key points, each territory has the same value. When your troops finally breakthrough all the Germany to the USSR borders, the game will tell you that "the USSR is developing a devastating new weapon, and will finish it in three years. Kill the traitors!" And now you have a timer, to make things faster, and a quest to conquer Russia. Just Cause, you know.

USSR starts in 1941, and the layout is pretty much similar as it was for Allies in 1940, except you start your conquest from the east and going to the west. The 3-year timer is on when you reach any Allies hold province.

With Germany, it's a bit more interesting, as you start in April 1945, also in two provinces before defeat. And the 3-year timer is on from the start of the game.

The main goal, again, is to conquer all the provinces on the map. One by one. You can speed up some time idling for the resources, but the most time of the game, you'll be managing similar-looking card battles, until you finally get them all. To get all the achievements, you need to do that conquest 3 times. And boy, it hurts!

I mean, it's all not that bad at the start. You have rock-paper-scissors card management battles, and RISK-like global map, where you can build some defensive structures. Cards are divided into five types: infantry, tanks, aviation, fleet, and various defense structures like forts. Each type of card can be used against any opponent's card. However, every card has weak and strong points: some will be better against armor units, some against ship cards, and so on. You can't take in an attack any defensive cards, but you can easily operate some submarines somewhere in the middle of Belarus or Switzerland...

The first 5-10 battles are pretty much simple, and managing that push-pull with the front line on strategy map feels challenging enough, for an hour or two. But then you'll conquer about 100 provinces, including the most part of Europe map, and then you realize that you're only 33% into that one campaign, and you still need to go all the way into Asia and Africa, and it's all the same cards everywhere, and the only challenge is about how to beat opponent's 30-40 cards with your 5-15...

Overall mark 5/10. It's not the worst game on the market, sure, but it is too dull. Maybe if you play like 1-2 hours a week or less, and you can play the same game for all the year, you'll like that game better. I - can't.

How anyone could take what could have been an enjoyable game and unbalance it so moronically is beyond me. I bought this in a bundle super cheap. And it's a good thing. No matter what country you pick to start, you get 1 that's right 1 province. And your enemy get's the entire rest of Europe. Your ally gets a small country if you choose the allies or russia but they do not do anything to help really. The computer can cap a province and spawn a massive army in it with multiple fortifications in an instant. Even if they are completely surrounded and cut off. I knew this wasn't historically accurate and that could have been fun with a little bit of balance but no. Avoid it at any price.

just finished the game (red army campaign, not going to play other). the game is too long to my taste and after midgame becomes repetitive without new content.
catching spies is refreshing minigame also awarding lots of resources. dev should defenitely add more such minigames to make the grind less tedious.
upgrading cities is nice feature letting you balance your resources between what you want no what you want in future, just in real life (aka deleyed gratification).
cities probably implemented in poor chosen data structures, because when you have many and access from cities screen - game responds much slower than choosing city from the map.
overall it's good experience for anyone liking turn based\card based tactical combat.

Grind Grind Grind.. Not enough options.. With that said I have played 7 hours lol.. but I was hoping other options would develop in the game or updates.. it is more like a mobile app game if that

Has potential, but is unfortunately not of very high quality.

It's a pretty good game. the mechanics alright. if i could make one suggestion to Hamsters Gaming, it would to be to add a mode where you have unlimited resources and command points, kind of like a sandbox mode. but as i was saying the game is pretty good. good for people who want to make a bit of alternate history.

In general, the game is quite interesting at the beginning. The battle is interesting until there are not too many units. But at a certain moment, the number of units will become too many.
Although what to expect from a game for such a price? Art is pretty cute, a few hours was quite interesting.

Sometimes you can find such small unusual nice indie games. It was quite interesting, although I lacked freedom of action. I liked the battle mode, where you can just fight without an extra grind.

This type of card game was new to me and initially I enjoyed it, but it became very repetitive after 1-2 hours. And the progress you can make in developments, science and economy are limited and very scripted. So nice game and would like to play a little bit longer, but already know ahead of time it is going to be more of the same.

Do not recommend. Don't even know where to start.

Don't buy this no matter the price. Its a botched game. It starts off with you completely surrounded. You can play the game for a little while but eventually you'll have 10 units and the NPC will have 18 units in every territory. You can't win this game. Add to that your fighting navel battles in the middle of a continent and for ground territory, you get the picture. Its silly.

Wanted to like the game, I really did. I even played a whole campaign and tried to start on another... But no, this game is irredemably boring and not worth it even on sale.
