What a beautiful game! The story is so good, and it’s all that matter, the characters and the emotions they show. No triple-A graphics, RTX nonsense, multiplayer stuff… nothing like that, just a beautiful story about life that will allow you to think about your own. I won't spoil it, so I’ll end the review here.

The To the Moon series revolves around Dr. Wyatt and Dr. Rosaleane, scientists who live in a world where it's possible to recreate memories. This allows the scientists to give dying people a chance to live out their final request. This game is the first installment.

To The Moon tells the story of Johnny Wyles, an old man on his deathbed whose dying wish is to go to the moon. He can't remember why he desires to travel there, he's not sure why he's so passionately drawn to it but he finds deeply that he must. So it's up to the scientists to craft and decipher his true desire of why to help his dying wish come to fruition.

They have to traverse his memories, all of which are cheerfully happy, bittersweet and full of tragedy.

Memories are messy and how we perceive them can develop how we carry ourselves. The game heavily revolves traversing Johnny's innermost thoughts and his most personal moments to implant the memory of him visiting the moon.

This game is beautiful. It promotes the provoking exploration of love, loss and desire. The game also covers various topics that touch the hearts of many, the very complications that make life ever so beautiful. Mental illness, death, heartbreak, tragedy, all covered in such a charming and captivating way.

The story is enchanting and the musical scores hold such a closeness to my heart that I can't help but find myself NOT to share the experience with others, I give this game to everyone I enjoy being around, I find it to be a piece of me now and I can't help but want to share these moments with others. It's such a lovely game.

Buying this game on the Freebird Games Website allows you to purchase the soundtrack, a purchase that a percentage of course goes to aiding various mental health charities. So if you feel a little charitable and find yourself wanting to enjoy a enrapturing story... buy this game. You won't regret it

A new life on your last breath, don’t you wish you could go back to the very beginning and start over? Sigmund Corp grants dying wishes, for a price. Sign the contract and on your deathbed two employees will arrive to grant your stated desire; in this case, Senior memory travel agent Dr. Eva Rosaline and Technician specialist Dr. Neil Watts for patient Johnny – his wish? Go to the moon.

To the Moon is a beautiful game that’s a bit tragic, I played Finding Paradise first so I had fairly high expectations going into this and it absolutely did not disappoint. 3+ hours to complete, a fantastic and incredibly well written story backed up by its well-deserved overwhelmingly positive reviews.

A roller coaster of emotions as we try to fulfill a dying man's wish artificially. Story can be confusing at first, but the it stitches up very nicely as it goes. The plot twists were definitely unexpected.

Beautiful game. A narrative that deftly deals with regret and how we attempt to resolve it.

It's also quite sad. The reveal behind the origami rabbits, and the fact that John never understood what River was trying to tell him, was particularly sad. But that's life. Not everything gets an ideal resolution.

This game caught my eye, then stayed with me for years. I've read it was made with RPG-maker, which has arguably simple SNES-like graphics. I usually like 3D games with lots of freedom of movement so this game was something different than what I normally would play. But I heard it was well written and emotionally moving, especially for a game made with RPG-maker so I was intrigued. I've played triple A games that looked incredible but had no soul to it, no meaningful story or uniqueness to them. And I've played older games with simpler graphics that really made an impact on me.

So basically I wanted to play this game to see if such a 'simple' game could have a profound effect on me. I wanted to experience if this game could tell a story as powerful as some next-gen HD cinematic games can. And the answer is yes! The topics of this game (family, autism, dreams) really spoke to me and the story felt relatable. At first I thought that some themes in the game were a bit random or cliché but later in the game these themes recur and get more weight to them. I've played the game 2 times (about 3 years apart) and I'm only just now getting a rather clear picture of the whole story. There's still one or two questions unanswerd but maybe I'll play it again in another 3 years and I'll get the whole story then. Since you go through the whole story backwards and are traversing through memories and virtual constructs of one's mind, this game will peak your interest if you like movies such as Memento, Inception and maybe even The Matrix. It's not a real sci-fi game but has some of those elements in it, without them becoming gimmicks. At first the story is simple but later on you réally start connecting the dots and that makes the whole story more meaningful.

I've played this game to experience something. I don't think a game is just it's graphics or gameplay. It's also the experience you get from it while playing it. I think if you're an insensitive son of a &#%&$ you might resonate less with the themes of the story. But if you like somewhat romantic stories about growing up, family, love, dreams and destiny you might really like this one. I feel that particularly older games with simpler graphics have something that next-gen really graphical games don't have: they leave room for imagination. Because the characters in this RPG are simple pixelated sprites, my imagination automatically thought they looked like people I know in real life. And being able to project something of your own unto a game is only possible if the game uses relatable themes and dialogue. And it does. So that also made the game much more personal to me. Also the music is very atmospheric and the piano theme that's featured throughout the whole game will probably always stay with me.

I think the only gripe people could have with this game is that it's relatively short and you could probably speed run this game in a few hours. But since the game probably costs even less than $10,- at the time you read this review, I'd say, go for it. Take the time to let it all in and saviour the experience. Triple A games can learn from the storytelling this game offers and I wish more people will discover this gem of a game!

I adore this game very much. The premise is intriguing and the story's incredibly heartfelt without coming off as cheesy or overblown, aided by the gameplay mechanics and the OST. By the time I finished this game, I felt deeply moved and cried a lot. This is a game I think about often.

->You CAN NOT to the moon, in reality, can only do it in your mind before death

Kind of like "Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind: The video game"

Worth pointing out there are some simple point'n'click type puzzles but this is really more of an interactive story. I don't say that as a negative (I highly recommend this game) but some people might not like that.

I want to love this game, but it has a massive tone problem. Any and every emotional moment is sandwiched between the protagonists insulting each other or making inappropriate quips. I'm usually a fan of stories that mix silly and serious tones, but this game doesn't space them out properly and as a result killed any emotional investment I might have had, which is really bad considering the story is the focus. I'm really glad to see so many other people had an emotional experience with this game, but I myself can't recommend it.

A very beautiful story filled with sadness and pretty fun puzzles. Didn't make me cry but definitely gave me things to think about once I got to the end. As with most RPG Maker type games, the controls are a bit jank at times but once you get used to them it's not the worst.

Oh and the soundtrack is pretty swell, I now want to learn For River/ To The Moon on piano

Duke Alaric

To the moon is an emotional, thought-provoking title that almost had me in tears in the end. A tale about two “scientists” working on fulfilling a literal dying man’s wish.

The game does not provide much in terms of gameplay, but provides bucketloads in story. The constant friendly-aggressive banter between Eva and Neill (the game’s main protagonists) is chuckle-inducing. The two travel back through their patient’s memories and relive all sorts of events, some of them heart-wrenching to downright unsettling.

I highly recommend if you are into games with a heavy drive on narrative and good music.

I would highly recommend this game.
The story is very interesting, and the music is so beautiful!
The only problem I have, and I'm not sure if it's just me, but certain times when characters talk the speech and mouse lag quite a bit, but when you're moving around it works fine. So, I'm not sure if it's a glitch in the game or if it's on my end.
Other than that I would highly recommend this game!

A short, but entertaining story. There isn't much gameplay, most of it being about solving these simple tile puzzles or just walking around interacting with things. Nonetheless, the charming humor and touching story made this a fun experience worth having, especially for how cheap it is.

This is truly a one of a kind game for the ages. It tugs at your heartstrings, makes you laugh at the best of times, and the ending is satisfactory in a way that I can't describe.

This is also one of those games that's a "once in a while" type of story. There's a certain way that Kan Gao designed this game to be sad, happy, and mysterious all at the same time, and by the end you're sitting there like, "Wow, what a game". In my personal opinion, this is a great start to the series that Kan Gao developed, and if you love a good story-based game that doesn't focus too heavily on gameplay mechanics, then prepare to sit down and enjoy the ride.

Okay, now this game I was hesitant on buying for awhile. I regret my hesitance horribly.
This game is one of the most beautiful, well written, emotional game I've ever played. I've read reviews saying all the stuff i'm about to say, but it seems I had underestimated all of it's wonderful features.
To the Moon is such a beautifully constructed game, with its great story-building to the characters actions. Also, I'm an absolute sucker for BGM. The soundtrack for this game is absolutely gorgeous, not even Beethoven could write something as good as this soundtrack.
Yeah, it made me cry. One tear, and it was enough for me to understand the meaning of this game.
I can't believe such a beautiful game was hidden from me for all these times I could have known of it. I hate my hesitance, I really do. But now, 4 hours later, this first part is finished and I feel full but not whole. The sequel lies behead, and I hope it's better than this one. Such beautifully moving games.
Thank you to the creators for making such an emotional masterpiece. A 10/10 experience, and i can't wait to play the other games by them too!

I LIKE THIS GAME! I LOVE IT!! WILL I RECOMMEND IT? BIG FAT YES! BUT AM I SATISFIED AT ALL? SADLY, NO...

Gameplay.
You gradually unlock the story by walking through each of the memories, and in each memory, you will bit by bit have a deeper insight of the characters by wandering in there. I had no problem with the gameplay and I really enjoyed it.

Music
Gorgeous.

Character
Beautiful.

Story
The story had a very strong start which drew me into it right the moment I started. The progress of the story was very solid and I really enjoyed it, it bit by bit built up a bomb inside me (which I call an "emotion bomb"), the bomb then became really, really, really big, the bait was also attached and all it needed was a kick-starter. But, that kick-starter never happened.

It was at the time the knot started to be unknotted, I wasn't satisfied by how the story was resolved, it wasn't bad, but it... wasn't that good either, I can accept it, but it could have been done so much better. I can't blatantly tell you how the end of the story could have been, all I can say is that the author has just missed a BIG BIG chance to make this become sublime. Ju- just a bit more! I need that moment! I can feel it! I can f***ing feel it, Johnny!! JUST. A. BIT. MORE and that bomb would explode!! But, when the game reached the end screen where you press [ESC] to exit, all that left inside me was a mixing of sad, regret and disappointment. That moment I was waiting for never came, and that bomb inside me couldn't, and never could, explode...

All In All!

I don't regret playing this game, I enjoyed it really much and I had a lot of great moment with it. I also love the music, the characters, I love Dr. Eva, Dr. Neil, Lily, River, John, etc. and I love all the DLCs of the game, too (especially the comic DLC, go get it if you haven't), but if you ask me if I were really satisfied with the game, then... I don't want to say it, I could have not had to say it! But, sadly, it's a "No"...
