Fantastic puzzle game that is both relaxing and stressful at the same time. If you want to get 3 stars in each mission this can get tricky in some missions, but otherwise it is quite relaxing and beautifully made

Train valley is a fun, small scale puzzle game.

You get to route little trains around a valley, matching them to their destination without hitting the others. There's some time pressure, but variable speeds allows you to mostly set your level of pressure.

Great for people who like guiding shapes into their proper boxes.

Was recommended to me as a fun little game, and that it is. Has kept me busy all week long, and probably for a few more weeks yet.

It keeps crashing on my system and I cannot run it. Looks fun though but sadly I will be getting a refund on this one.

I bought this game the same way as I imagine a lot of us here did, as a part of the elegant engineering bundle.
I thought the price of the bundle was fine for Poly Bridge, Turmoil and Minimetro and just tossed this game aside.
Years later I thought I might just try it for a few minutes and damn me; this game is actually pretty cool!
I really enjoyed the difficulty curve and I loved the moment when my head clicked with the game and I finally managed to multitask multiple trains at the same time.
The music is fine, the visuals do their job and I have barely encountered any glitches.
All in all this is a throughout 'fine' game, if not very ambitious.
Just keep in mind its a puzzle game not a city builder.

Its a really good, challenging game, down the line when you have finished it, then come back after a few months there is no difference in difficulty.

Stress, Aniexty, Fun & Pain...

These are all the things you will feel as you race to not only construct, but also conduct the trains on your line to safely get them to their correct coloured home. When you first jump in, you'd be forgiven for thinking this is a game for kids, but boy o boy does this game ramp up. Very quickly you'll have lines running everywhere, and trains coming at you from every angle.

Sit down, grab your choice of caffeinated drink, and watch the hours fly by, as you try and get your trains home safely.

Train Valley 2 just went on sale, and that reminded me that I had this earlier Train Valley. It has languished, almost unplayed, on my drive for quite awhile. Out of curiosity -- almost not remembering it -- I fired it up this evening. Now I can't figure out why I didn't play it much. It's actually an interesting little game, with charming graphics. And it runs perfectly on my rig.

Indeed, now I've decided to buy Train Valley 2 and its DLC while it's on sale, too. That's a pretty earnest endorsement of the original. I haven't seen it get quite difficult yet -- although I expect that to be coming, given comments in some other reviews. But I must say -- the user interface seems pretty well designed, so if it gets very difficult it also seems that I'll have only myself to blame if I can't solve whatever challenge it throws at me.

I enjoy laying the tracks and routing the trains. I wish there was more levels available. I already purchased Germany DLC and almost beat the game with all three stamps (or stars) on each level. I actually purchased Train Valley2 and honestly like the original better. The look of the game, the graphics, are better in Train Valley and I even would say the object of the game gives me more pleasure and satisfaction. I've spent more time playing Train Valley than Train Valley2 although purchased at the same time and contains less courses.

If you thought this was a relaxing game, you'd be sorely mistaken. The cheerful tunes accompany you as you feverishly work to get all trains to their proper destinations, avoid collisions, build tracks and make money. Most challenges are difficult, but doable. A true puzzle, fully recommended

Dr. Death
Dr. Death

Its.... Really nice, but its REALLY simplistic, although it can get QUIIIIIIIITE hard early on if you aren't paying attention. You gotta be a genius at multitasking to be able to fully do all the objectives for this game

Imagine "Mini Metro" but ACTUALLY done right, and made complex, without the same cool aesthetic.

So why did i refund it? Because honestly there's not much more to the game. I still think its good, but I dont think its good enough to grab my attention because of how simple it is.

I've never considered a career in the railways other than the occasional, childish dreams of cruising along the rails in an engine cutting through the country from one town to another. So when I saw the warm, colorful title in my recommended I was intrigued and soon found myself eager to appease my sense of adventure, entreating those child like fantasies to the opportunity that laid before me. At first I found the game to be rather fulfilling, crafting literal bridges between communities by building an effective locomotive network and watching the trains gracefully push towards their destinations.
Then, things started to get a little different. The number of depots just kept growing as did the number of trains needing to traverse the railways. I felt the pressure but I was buckling down and making it work. Sure a few departures were delayed, and the rail networks I've crafted weren't always perfect and needed some revisions but it continued to function just well enough.
But the demand and growth just kept rising and rising and rising. I began to feel overwhelmed. I scrambled to direct each engine to their appropriate destinations with careful planning and navigation. Trains were left sitting in depots for what felt an eternity and after leaving often needed to stall to allow passage of another locomotive on the same circuit. The intensity of it all became too much and I found myself unable to cope with the pressure and turned to the bottle. At first it was just to take the edge off, but it wasn't long before I was sneaking whiskey on the job.
Then one day... the unthinkable happened. I sent two on their way but I wasn't careful enough. The damn booze, I got sloppy and I didn't notice I sent them right at each other. By the time I realized it, it was too late. Those poor bastards slammed right into each other and both trains were completely destroyed. They died, and it was entirely my fault. An investigation took place and as soon as they smelled the vapors on my breath it was the end for me. Then it got real ugly. Before I was just tipping the bottle but now, I was swimming in it. I lost my house, wife, kids and everything with any value to me.
Things were bleak, and i did some things to get by that I wasn't too proud of but nothing compared to the shame I felt from the men who died because of my ineptitude. One day, after wondering around for years, I sat next to some tracks and watched a train pass by. I was immediately reminded of those fond dreams living a peaceful life on the rails. It was just the inspiration I needed to finally climb out of that bottle. I decided that I would carry on that dream and that I would carry on the memory of those who died as a stern reminder to never bury my responsibilities again. I have a long road ahead of me and have a lot to prove before I'm ready to take the reigns again, but if I steel my resolve and stay true to the course I'll find my way back on top in Train Valley.
So yeah I'd say it's a pretty fun game. A bit challenging at times and can be a little trial and error but you learn what works and what doesn't and apply what you learn moving forward. Would recommend to anyone 10/10.

Don't let this game fool you; Despite the cute looks and the nice colors, I've found gameplay to be difficult, even on the easy maps & gamemodes. This game is good in overall simplexity of where to send trains to and how to do it. It seems simple at first, but just wait till you click on the infinite symbol available at the end of every level.

For me, it seemed so simple and complicated so easily. I sometimes built tracks right as the trains were rolling through em. Other times, I knew exactly what to do and became focused.

I would recommend this game, but only for people who would be a lot better at it than me.

A great game, somewhat reminiscent of 'Locomotion', an ages old game where you had to direct trains to the corresponding station. However in 'Train Valley' you don't only direct the trains but you have to build the very tracks aswell. This alone does add up to the fun immensely. Also you could put more trains on the tracks as you see fit. Of course this will not only increase the amount of money you can earn, but it will most definitely rampi up the difficulty to sometimes insane heights.

Graphics, sounds and music are perfectly fine for a game of this kind and the developers did put quite a lot of details in the game as well. For example you will start out with slow and old trains that are reasonable short and easy to navigate around the tracks. But that's only the beginning: Later on during the levels the trains will get more modern, faster and longer.

Still that's not all. There are hidden gimmicks in the levels that will appeal to yourself during gameplay and keep everything fresh and fun. Of course I won't mention them for the sake of letting you find out for yourself. You most likely will, because this is a classy game you should definitely add to you library. And while you're at it, please do beg the devs to release more levels in the form of DLC in the future. Thanks in advance. ;)

Plagiatus
Plagiatus

A fun game. The graphics obviously aren't overwhelming, but they are more then good enough for what this game is trying to be.

The distinction between worlds and the gradual learning curve make this a good game to pick up quickly, but you still notice a significant improvement on your skills in the late game compared to early game. The challenges make you think on your feet and add a nice, optional extra layer of difficulty on top. I've finished the base game in about 15 hours (after which i'm now writing this review), but that's a good amount of time for a good game. If you don't care about the optional challenges, you're probably done in less time, but who plays a game like this if they don't want to see how good they can get?

The DLC seems to be priced fairly for the amount of content it provides from what I can tell, so if you see me having played more since this review, you know I got myself the DLC to dabble a little more in some train valley action.

Train Valley as a simulation of a toy train set, pitched in a puzzle environment with rules, challenges and restrictions.

I have never been interested in trains or toy trains owning a toy train set. I am now 41 years old and I am enjoying this game so much that I wonder if this is my midlife crisis. Maybe I will now buy a train set.

I am playing through the campaign mode - about halfway through so far. Each level consists of a map with various obstacles and terrain and two or three train stations. As time passes, trains appear in each station with a destination marked on them and every now and again additional stations appear too. Your job is to build the tracks and to control the switches that guide the trains to their destination. When a train reaches its destination you receive income. The quicker the journey, the more you will earn.

Switches are automatically added where tracks connect. You may lay track that crosses over other track, destroy previously laid tracks and destroy obstacles, such as trees or buildings. Building tracks and destroying obstacles costs money and as time passes your money decreases under the guise of annual taxes. When trains crash they blow up and damage everything around them. It's quite fun :)

You successfully complete a level if you reach the end of the time allowed without going bankrupt - exploding trains are fine, but don't run out of money! There are other challenges for bonus points, such as earning a certain amount in a given level or avoiding trains crashing, things like that.

Is it fun?

Yes. Not bad. I got this on discount for less than $1 and it's really good value for money.

I really feel like I am building a toy train set and guiding trains around. It can be very satisfying optimising routes around the map and watching your toy trains pass within tiny spaces of each other, but not colliding. It has a good feeling about it when you do something clever, probably once or twice per level.

This is NOT a transport simulator, it is not an intense puzzle game and it's not a management sim.

This IS a fairly simple puzzle game, building tracks and guiding toy trains to their destination. It is not particularly challenging, but not totally casual either. You will have to concentrate and plan and have the restrictions of budget holding you back a little.

I really like this game BUT ...

I would have given it six stars out of 10 if that had been possible. The graphics are nice, controls are simple, I didn't find any bugs, and play is challenging BUT ...

THERE IS NO SAVE!! So you can spend a bit of time working on a setup but you can't come back and finish it later. No! When you exit the game everything you worked to build is gone.

My three-year old loves this. It's a fun train-scheduling game with track building and way-finding. Making the trains explode is hilarious for him, so the sandbox mode is good for that. I have fun too :)

KamikaziFly
KamikaziFly

Fun puzzle game, which increases in difficulty slightly then tremendously. Each map has 3 elements to win, which you only need 1 to pass on to the next stage. Some challenges are to: Never stop a train; Never let a train enter the wrong station; Never destroy a track; Spend enough; Don't spend too much; Do destroy objects worth enough $; Don't destroy objects worth so much $; etc.

I stopped after I couldn't complete one board which escalated the difficulty significantly which started with all railroads turned one direction, but the requirements were to connect them all in reverse. I tried to solve it for over an hour, but had to stop for the day. Every tiny mistake ended in failure. Even the randomness of the board's spawns could cause failure.

Mega.Mahdi
Mega.Mahdi

Despite the genre listings of "simulation" and "strategy", this is really a puzzle game, not a builder or sim, so if you're looking for something like a Railroad Tycoon game, then you won't find it here.

The game as a Puzzle Game: Good idea, and it's fun when it works. But the game has a few major flaws that makes it incredibly frustrating. There is a timer that appears only when there are 5 seconds left before the next train. If you have anything in that range, there's very little you can do especially when the levels are complex.

I was enjoying the game for a while, but the train management is just far too frustrating for complex levels. I can't recommend the game until the developer fixes issues like this, and revamps some of the track management.

The game itself looks decent, though buggy and frustrating with issues, it just isn't what it looks like it is on the store page.

Train Valley is a simple train management game, where you go through history to complete missions and while on those missions you need to ensure that your trains don't crash, which is harder then it looks since you forgot to change a switch in the game and all of a sudden 2 trains are running into each other. Overall the game is really easy to pick up, and if you are good at concentration this game is going to be really fun for you, in most cases I forgot I had changed something and trains ends up running into each other! Then I restart and try again.

I have attached some gameplay so you can see if this is a game for you!

I am really enjoying time with this little train puzzle game so far. It seems like one of those games that can be enjoyed equally in both long hauls (pardon the pun) and short spurts as well. I really like the challenge level. This game can really push your brain and reflexes if you want to complete all of the stars (challenges) but it wisely allow progression with completing all of the individual challenges per each layout/mission, and that was really appreciated. It's challenging as all get up, in classic mode, but they included a fun sandbox mode to hone your skills, while scratching that creative itch.

*DISCLOSURE: I bought this game during the Steam Summer Sale, but have a strong feeling having played it now, that I would recommend it a full price, and Train Valley 2 is now on my wish list as well.

CONCLUSION: I'll keep it simple. If you are a fan of trains, and enjoyed challenging puzzle games, this would be a STRONGLY RECOMMENDED BUY from me - with one caveat: If you are looking for a train-transportation-tycoon-style-sim, this game IS NOT that.
