Abandonware. Looked like it might be a spiritual successor to Transport Tycoon but falls short in most regards and is unfinished. Try out OpenTTD if you want an amazing version of what this game was trying to be.

Last update as of May 2023 was a little over two years ago. I think that there is a strong possibility that the developer has abandoned work on this game. I would recommend voxel tycoon over this game at this point in time.

granted, at the time of this review this game has only been available for 4 hours (of which i have ~4 hours of play) First of all I must say "THANK YOU!!!" this game scratches an itch i've had for 18 years ever since I found out no matter what i did i could not get another certain game with the word tychoon in it to play on windows XP or later. Over all It is a very nice start to a game but, as it is brand new (on early access) it has a few glarring issues:
1) I could not get it to load a larger map... it just sat at the loading screen for about 10 minutes before i gave up and alt-ctrl-del it. but the quick start did work fine
2) some graphical issues when playing on a rig with dual monitors.
3) a few quality of life things that would make the game a lot easier to play well at(being able to have a list of all your depots/loading points/bus stations. being able to search the industries, roads being funky about connecting to eachother(I could go on...)
4) The AI is kinda stupid (as i mentioned i was playing on the quick start version) I took over the AI company and found out only about 25% of their routes were profitable(and about 10% went nowhere... ie a truck picked up cargo, and the route was set up so there was no where for it to be delivered)

And, well, there are other things to gripe about. All that being said, provided updates and development continues, If your like me having spent $100s of dollars looking for a substitute for that particular game from the 90's also with the word tychoon in it, this is damned near the best i've ever found (and one of the cheapest.)

TL;DR A modern and 3D approach to Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

Pros:

    • no more isometric view , now you can rotate and zoom in/out easier

    • power plants have a purpose - no power no production, no power no city growth

    • the commodities flows have a larger purpose, in TTD you just transport them from one industry to another and that was it, in Transports you complete the requirement for industries and generate new commodities, and those commodities will be transported to cities and will help them grow.

    • new feature: managers - there are managers that with a cost will do some jobs for you: replace old vehicles, apply upgrades to vehicles, do researches, do maintenance. As the developments evolves more manager types are added

    • new feature: politics - you have, for now, 3 types of ministries that can influence economics for everyone (ex: you can change the tax %) - but to become a minister you have to reach a certain level and also be popular among the cities. Another part for politics is that you can become a mayor for a city and once you are elected you can build the city as you please

    • theme modding support - you can create you own theme with content on your pleasing. The developer was kind to share the theme definition and 3D converter tool so we can create our own theme. I, myself, created around 15 more industries and commodities to play with, apart from the 40 commodities available in the game.
    • the game is in constant development even if only one person is doing this job.
    • the developer is very open to suggestions and is adding features requested by community (in the limit of not breaking the game mechanics or too complex to do compared to what it brings)

Cons:

    • the fact that the game is in constant development is a pro and also a little con - because adding new features will break some save games or the features just can't be used on a old save game - since 2018 all game updates have not broken the save games all is OK
being in early stage of development there is little content on the unit part, but this is easy fixable by the content created by the community - I've made some mods that will add more than 70 hours of gameplay.

Conclusion:

The game is fun to play and easy to manage once you understand the mechanics.
The most anticipated feature I'm waiting for is the integration with Steam Workshop were we can share more content for the game.

the game is in a very early stage basically unplayable. I had so much experience with early access simulation/building game but this one is beyond my comprehension.

1) For the very first time to enter the game, you need to search for and manually open the begin guide. How is that even logical?
2) the first step in the game is to connect a power plant to a coal mine/oil well. Since the map is randomly generated, good luck, you can find those two places almost at the both ends of the game.
3) I spent 20 minutes try to start my first truck until I accidentally overlapt the road and the station. Aha, it was not metioned in the guide that even though the station looked like connected to road but in fact it was not.

Not recommand to buy it at this stage.

Obviously taking inspiration from Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Transports also brings some new features to the table:

    • Cities and industries require power, so powerplants serve as more than just places to dump coal and oil.
    • You can research upgrades for your vehicles.
    • Industries consume things other than just the primary components of what they produce. For example, a factory also accepts shipments of machinery.
    • You can sabotage your competitors' facilities and hire security for your own.

I put together a video based on my early impressions:
https://youtu.be/4wDz8FKHr8o

A few things I'd like to see going forward:

    • More advanced signalling.
    • More control over camera tilt at higher zoom levels. I felt like I couldn't see enough of the map when zoomed in.
    • The ability to copy timetables between vehicles.

All in all, I'm excited to follow this game as it develops through Early Access.

The developer is constantly fixing and adding new features into the game. The game is quite good. People you need to buy It now and get those bug reports out to the developer so they can be fixed. I think that this game has to be one of the fewest that doesn't have a lot of major bugs.
The game does't need a tutorial simply because the game is really simple. The gameplay is quite simple and enjoyable. If you enjoy playing a game like Open TTD then this game is for you. This game is not at all like most transportation games in fact It's much better because It has better graphics and the layout is far better then most games in this genre have.
This game is probably more like Open TTD. Transports is a very solid game however the map generation still needs quite a lot of polishing the cities are still very close to each other they should be farther apart making a transport line between city to city easier to have. There are certain features like the UFO that you should be able to turn off. Why would anyone add the UFO thing into a transport sim at all It's a stupid idea that's not what this game is about.

I was choose the giant map, it tooks me 15 minutes, and the game was still not loaded. restarted the game, choosed the normal map size, was loaded ok. playing the game, the biggest pain in the *** is the mini map. useless. cannot zoom, and do not shows your routes, stations, etc...also not one item is clickable, so to find a city or a factory, you have to zoom out, and search manualy, which is unacceptable in a gme like this. otherwise, not so much to say, I've got p*ssed off to search locations, and quit the game after an hour....till not fix this issue, I do not recommend this game.

Right now there are a LOT of bugs to be worked out and like most games the fanboys blame the customer instead of th developer. From the inability to click on menus to open and close them to too small text to pausing the game to pop up a "fail" in a box to playing where's Waldo to find a power station because the list text is too small to read. Alt/Tab freezes you can't change the resolution and god forbid you have Windows 10 etc etc. Don't let my low minutes of play fool you I play most of my games offline. I played enough of this game.

Not worth the effort needed too many good games out there.

33% of the reviews are negative. That tells you what?

"Transports" is an eminently accomplished early access game. I've just played 3.4 hours as sandbox (i.e. against no AI) on a normal size map and was soon making a small profit before just reaching the point where I don't have to worry too much money-wise. Concentrated on setting up energy for an area and then progressing public transport and mail in the larger towns. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Sure there are some rough edges as one should expect for an EA game, but definitely playable.

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses over the next several months.

I think that this game is totally addictive, even when it is clear that not only is it lacking content and graphics improvements, it has everything of legendary games such as Transport Tycoon Deluxe (1994) and the last transport fever, anyway, it seems to me that the load times for giant maps are too long even on my PC that runs extremely demanding games , but surely the final version of the game will be for a 9 or a 10 note, for now with a 6 or 7 is very good

Ok - So I dumped a decent amount of time into this game this past weekend. The short answer is that while there are bugs and issues to iron out, I like it. Right now its a little bit like Transport Tycoon Deluxe light with some rough edges to smooth out - which, for early access, is not necessarily a bad thing. This game, as it stands, is a great starting point for something that could be truly great if the dev keeps up with it. Although there are a few glitches I've run into, I still haven't found anything that makes the game crash, or totally unplayable. (Although there are some things that made me scratch my head and restart a game/map --- which again, early access build not necessarily a bad thing).

If you've played Transport Tycoon (Or Open TTD) you'll feel fairly at home here, even if there are some major differences between the two (working those out has been interesting).

My benchmark for early access games is this: if I buy it now, and the game never gets updated again, will it still be worth the money to play it in its current state. Can I say this for this game? If you're a fan of the genre and you're looking for something a little bit lighter than TTD/Open TTD... then yes, it definitely is.

Fun little game, made in Germany so i ahve found some translation errors but thats to be expected from an indie game form such a place. Sizable learning curve (Don't start with trians) it's a fun time passer/Tycoon game nice for relaxing after a sressful day

Considering this is very early access, I'm quite happy with the features that have been so far added and how the build runs. And I haven't ran into any game breaking bugs. This might shape up into a very good transport management

The game is still very much in is early stages. The management panels need a lot of attention, the vehicle models need some love, and there really is nothing more then what you see in the pictures. I would say its still a good year away from being a game you could actually play and enjoy. That being said, I am looking forward to the games completion. I give this a down vote currently, as if you would ask me to recommend this to someone today, even if you are a TT fan, I would have to say no. Also, no multiplayer :S.

Admitedly I did have high hopes for game supposedly varying [despite obvious inspiration from transport tycoon deluxe from 1997] from TTD, and admitedly - it has some differences, unofrtunatelly none are substantial enough to warrant that cost of a game, that surprisingly is actually inferior to original TTD game, which has currently free to play remake; While yes, research process is new, it is basically intorudcing unnecessary sub-vehicles with little to no benefit to gameplay itself short of higher numbers; Task sheduler is currenlty 'being planned'; multiplayer 'may or may not' be introduced, signalling is... a little limited at best, the true problem is in its selling points - while electricity being useable is a nice touch, and number of complexity of production chains is nicely expanded over vanilla TTD electricity serves no actual purpose than 'just another thing to connect for cities to grow', and as such can be considered instatly transported good, number of goods is not that impressive given Expanded Cargo Scheme expansion to free remake of Transport Tycoon Deluxe; The difference being the later does not pretend to be anything else than just a remake. Graphically the different planes for example don't look too distinctive, and change into simplistic 3d objects did not help their feel.

As of now I'd rather not reccomend this game, mostly because of lack of benefit of this game over free remake of TTD, and research system is not substantial enough in my opinion [minor boosts to machines basically], to warrant the price it demands.

Please note - as this is early access the issues I have with this game can change, and this game does have a large potential if it capitalises on differences and gimmicks that make it stand out;

Great game. As said before, its ALOT like transport tycoon, just better looking which is fine becouse the concept was great alrdy 15 years ago.
I don't find it to hard (just make some busses drive around inside the bigger cities and there you have your financial basis.(you don't have to bring them to other cities!)
It's early acces but i have found no bugs so far. (I dont have 3 monitors, 2graphic cards etc)
Only thing i would like is for some explanation on how trainsigns work since i can't seem to run 2 trains on 1 track.(yes i do make parts where they can pass)
All in all, vry nise game where u can sink in alot of hours and which for me is just a way to relax, no button bashing, adhd teenagers here.

disclaimer: i never played TTD or Open TTD, so I can't compare this game to them.

that said i love transports! it's a great transport tycoon game, where you try to grow your company by fulfilling needs of cities and thus also help them grow. maps are randomly created and pretty big.
there are still some problems with AI of computer opponents and content for the late game (EA 1.08)

The game is very fun and the map size is HUGE. This game really flew in under the radar, but is highly worth picking up. The first few hours I played I was a bit confused, but it gets easy after that. There are a few gameplay videos on youtube which help.

I highly recommend picking this up to accompany your other transport games. The graphics are also nicely done; the cities grow and they look nice. There are plenty of good to transport around and each city specifically will state what it needs when you click on it.

There is research options as well which I haven't tried much yet.

A few tips:

Supply power to at least one city area, then start transporting good and people around to make money.

You buy a vehicle, you then can add a trailer which transports a specific good. Then you click on adjust timetable and add the stops of where you want it to go (such as other loading stations, etc.), then you send your vehicle(s) out. It's pretty easy to use.

You can do the first quest (power quest) which is important as your cities depend on power, but after that you can take your time to do the optional quests. What I found works is to complete the power quest, then work on building up the cities close to where you provided power. Transporting passengers also helps with income. Then I paid off my debt and I'm now up to around 3 million in cash.

my review of this game

its very good and very easy to follow through tutorial - i understood all instuctions without any issues
the biggest postive feature was taxi - i loved it = i could setup taxi company if i wanted - its very great useful

also this game has extenstive features like politics and such also can manage staff in vehicles and Managers to help player to take care of other things

i havent had no bad experince with this game so i am recommeding this game if players like OTTD or any other simllar games

so i would love see more features example taxi ranks - for taxis that are not busy with tasks and can be picked up or dropped off at major points such stations or etc

my score is 4/5 - very good

im sure the game will get better in the future but a lot needs to happen with regards to management and ui improvements. I found myself bored within 25 minutes which is odd because i usually love these games. Also found the top down/jagged edges distracting and tiring. Add anti aliasing please. I really hope this becomes the 3D TTD but as of now i cant recommend.

Edit: Changing my review as it works as intended on my 28" 2K monitor. When I left the first review, I tried playing on my 65" 4K TV, which the depot modal is off-screen.

I'm having fun with this game and I like the graphics. Transporting people and goods never gets old. I recommend this game!

-I really want to like this game, but I can't get past 5 minutes of game play. I can't click on the depot to buy trains or buses. I can place them, but can't open their menu to buy and set routes. After this issue has been fixed and I can play this game, I might change the review to positive. It looks unique and it could be a lot of fun, if I could set vehicles to routes.-

The game is very close to the legendary TTD!
I very much enjoyed it. But the best part is the game's optimization - I have hundrets of different vehicles arount the map and the FPS are really high (whille I don't really have a high-end machine).

Do NOT purchase this game it is a SCAM! I paid for this game and I can't even get past the 3rd tutorial page because the games preset controls don't support my mouse and there is no option to modify the control settings. This is theft at it's finest.

New Review: I originally said it was underdeveloped, but now the game has been developed a lot so I am recommending it for those who want simple but 3D transportation tycoon games. It's not as in depth as others, but it's getting much better as time goes on.

Starting a new game, going throw the tutorial - it seemed OK to me, and I was curious why there are mixed reviews. But going deeper and further into game after tutorial more and more questions were arising.
Spacebar for some reason is not pausing the game, but increases game speed while it is pressed. Taxes seems to be calculated from gross income, which greatly slows you down - this could have been either more realistic, or as an option of difficulty settings.
There are no (or this is too complicated to be figured out after 18h of playing) routes. Every time you want to add another vehicle - you either manually recreated route selecting all the stops, or force vehicle from route to go into depot, where you can copy it with the route.
Research? Icons that are supposed to help you figure out which vehicle will benefit from this research are so small that it is almost impossible to understand.
Building roads or tracks? Surprise, be VERY attentive to how you lay them, because very often you will get parts of them being neighbors but not connected to each other.
Ah, another surprize after tutorial - you actually have a BIG loan! 500k, and you pay interest to a bank each month, and interest rate is 25%. Not bad business, probably I dont want to be transport magnate, but be a bank owner in this game?.. Game should be obvious about this. Take a look at startup company - you have literally no dollar on your account, and you have to take a loan. That is explicit and hard to forget thing, without surprizes like "where did all my income go?"..

Meanwhile, this game is being developped, and I hope it will get better. Probably will check it again after some time again.

MonkeyBoy
MonkeyBoy

I expected it to be like Transport Tycoon, all the reviews stated as such. There is to much technicality in it, instead of it just you creating transport systems, it's as if the world didn't function without you there. to much back tracking to make a ore mine give you goods. I don't care that the ore mine needs power to create, I just want to transport it.

i feel sorry that i refunded the game
i do think the game is good, deep and complicated gameplay. the devs have super fast respond to your problem.
---
however, the tutorial is very short, and it teach about 5% of the game, for the 95%, you have to figure it out yourself.
you have to ask in the forum in order to know some basic gameplay/mechanics. but as i said the dev is very helpful, they will help you when you are in trouble. for me, i have to reload and ask for about 4-5 times and ask in the forum inorder to build a normal and short train line(and takes me more than an hour). i am feeling frustrated as this game still have planes. politics and many other management to play, i dont know how many problems i have to ask....
---
i do recommend the game, if you hate hand held tutorial and like to figure it out yourself. and its not easy.
---
and finally, thank you for the help of devs, someday i will give it a try once more when the tutorial or description of the use of object is more polished.

The game has a lot of bugs fixed since I last played it, I can now play it maxed out but it still feels like an unfinished game.. it's like the developer is a one-man army and there are still lots of bugs left and not enough time to invest into the game.

Vehicles still clip into each other at cliffs, at intersections, i still feel the lack of diagonal line is lacking. I've also played Transport Fever which while it's a different graphics style, I can state that at least everything is better integrated and feels like a finished game.

I feel that if there's no new updates in the next few months, I will change the rating to no longer recommending this game, that was stale in early access for almost two years. It feels that the developer either made enough money from the game and doesn't care anymore or he lost interest in the project and doesn't want to let someone else take it or maybe he feels the game is done.

Hopefully it will get some love, but I seriously doubt it.

-------- [ Old review from April 2020 ] --------

I will recommend this game for the potential i see from it at the time of this review.

For me, as a hardcore chris sawyer ttd, rollercoaster tycoon 1/2 and even locomotion (that many hate) a well as ottd player, I feel it's unplayable to actually enjoy at the current state, however this game needs more of the useful stuff found in OTTD, as it's pretty much a beautiful graphics clone with steam workshop.

I'm aware it's still early access and I wanted to support the development by buying it so early. I'm also happy that the development is ongoing and it's improving by every iteration. I will return occasionally to test the changes and update the review accordingly.

Likes:
- voxel art
- the way to auto setup route at a higher price for beginners to see, learn as well as for the large companies to not waste time for something they are not interested so much in the design of
- the potential of this game once it will be released sometime in early 2021 by the looks of it

Dislikes:
- track laying: it's dificult and you can't go diagonally, or at least i haven't found a way to do so yet, this could also be the voxel style, where you can only go the 4 directions, but even so you can add diagonally adding of tracks that transform every L into a diagonal track once it's layed
- maybe there is something to improve on the custom hud size: on a somewhat small 15 inch 1080p laptop screen is very hard to setup a simple route on any option of the scale, it's either everything on the HUD is too big and you can't see the world or you can't read the text; maybe i'm just picky, but if i go native 4k it's even worse
- ux improvements, less screens need be open to do certain tasks
- no railroad crossings? maybe i missed this part but it's not automatically for sure
- too many roads really leaves little room for actual buildings in cities, maybe an option for a grid, n x n would be nice?
- scroll the map by reaching the edge of the screen?
- fix the intersection display, right now even at a depo, track isn't displaying as a straight like along with other directions

I'll update some more after I play around after the next update.

When I first started the game, I would of given it a thumbs down. But the more I play it, I got use to it and starting to enjoy it.

There are some bugs, like in corners/stations, my trucks would get stuck, then there would be no way to unclog it unless deleting a truck.

Then there are three different rail systems, I find it a bit annoying to delete them and rebuild to upgrade stations and tracks, or finding out you were building a big track and you were using the wrong rail type

Too lazy to write a review. I have been looking for a new transport tycoon type game and this is the one I liked most. I believe the Game can be developed further and hope the developer will continue to actively work on updates. Less cosmetic stuff and more core improvements hopefully.

Updated Transports Review
Transports is always one of those relaxing games I tend to find myself always coming back to. I'm not sure why, but it's honestly just immensely relaxing to crush bot competition and be like "ITS MY OIL NOW MR MONEYBUCKS" Cause stealing bot's goodies has never felt so rebelish and satisfying at the same time.

In Short
If you're a fan of other transport management games IE: Cities in Motion, Transport Fever. etc. Then you're going to love Transports simply because it's pretty much the same game, just lower graphics and easier to run than those games. (but then again lower graphics isn't always a bad thing!)

Pro's

    • Easy to run
    • Fairly easy to understand tutorial (could be expanded on though)
    • Relaxing background music
    • Cute graphics (May be personal preference but it's adorable to me to see a small truck just chug along a long road)

Con's
• Not much of a tutorial
• Not much content
• Could do with more background music
• More colour options

Bought it.
Build some stops.
Build depot.
Planned a busroute.
Bought 2 busses.
2 Wasnt enough to satisfy demand.
Bought a 3rd bus.
Added to route.
Bus keeps sitting in depot status "waiting" and something else 15 mins into the game.
Read about vehicles getting stuck, didn't expect it to be this bad.
Submitted a refund request.

This game is wonderful for several reasons:
It has low graphic demands so instead of being pretty it can be complex.
It is multiply progressive. first a, then b, with a and b, c....etc. In more than one area. Loving it!
It has random maps and mods. Makes for excellent longevity.
It hasn't crashed in 70 hours of play time.
The author is still making regular updates.
You should buy this! :)

The state of the of the game is very buggy. It's also filled with bad spelling and grammatical errors. Most importantly though is that it's, by all accounts, DEAD. The last update was in March 2021.

Avoid like the plague.

A really great game for optimizing logistic networks, but there are a few rough edges (upgrading existing vehicles and specifying routes is tedious; monitoring older vehicles/routes is manual and difficult; resource sources/destinations are too random to be entertaining). I wish the game would get some more updates - it is a great start, but currently needs some quality-of-life updates to be worth additional playtime.
