Uncrewed is a real-time strategy game for the PC with the ability to design units from scratch. Unlike in more traditional RTS, units obey the laws of physics, making design choices especially important.

ABSTRACT:
A very promising vehicle design game, with a very thoughtful build system and interesting strategic choices. Developer *very dedicated* to the game. Strategic side still lacking. Overall a promising game, and playable right now, although with some annoyances.

INITIAL REVIEW:
This is my 15 minutes in game review... You can throw away everything else in the game, and I would still give 10 thousand thumbs up to it's building system: It is AWESOME!!!

Basically you design the units using lego-like pieces... So far, so good, right? Every single system with custom ships/units/etc have something right that...

HOWEVER, the units are built using a 'factory', made of three automated arms: one in the 'front', and two in the sides... And these arms have to explicitly move to rotate and couple one part into another... At any time at least one of these arms must be holding the unit...

As a consequence, this makes the *order* of coupling the units very important: because depending on how specify the coupling sequence, the factory may have to build the unit one part or two parts at a time... Hindering the construction speed...

UPDATE: apr/17/2017:
First of all, I want to give kudos to the developer: I've seen UnCrewed being upgraded much more frequently than what I would expect: I think I've seen updates at least once per month.

To tell you the truth, I don't play the game too much: I think that, for now, the user interface for actually playing the campaign is somewhat awkward: no way to zoom in/out, the field of view is extremely small... And you have to babysit your units all the time, because they may simply fall on their sides while moving, making for some annoying surprises... (Such as discover that the unit you thought was moving in formation with your units is not). SUGGESTION: maybe make a group of units automatically reorient each other; or have a group specialized on this kind of supporting role. ANOTHER SUGGESTION: have a way to control the unit's speed and maneuver speed (with less acceleration there is a smaller chance of having the unit accelerating to the point it will fall on it's side, and need to be reoriented).

A nice surprise from the last time I've play is that there is now a research system: during a campaign battle you accumulate "megabytes" that can be used for upgrading units, by finding some "goodie boxes".

For the niche demographic of patient builders, this is fairly easy to recommend, mostly because of the level of polish.
The game runs at a consistently high framerate and without stuttering. Also very stable, no crashes during gameplay, which is especially impressive considering all the silly custom 3D shapes you can mold from the stock unit parts.
Full working options menu with key rebinding, multiple audio sliders for sound level customisation or turning certain sounds off if they are annoying.

Core campaign gameplay seems all done, though unit design could use a little more streamlining and speeding up, as there are instances where chunks of your unit will need to be redone such as when a previously placed module blocks the factory's assembly arms and in those instances the process as of writing feels quite tedious.
2017-03-29 and 2017-11-22 Updates saw unit design process redone, making it vastly more convenient, allowing groups of modules to be repositioned, rotated and attached in arbitrary sequence. No mirror or duplicate functions currently, though.

In general, by now the game has seen expansion in propulsion, weapon and hull modules; expanded base building gives campaign missions new tactical options and has made the second playthrough quite a bit more fun.

Pathfinding and unit mobility is functional, and impressive, considering the freeform positioning of propulsion components, although turning could use more work with wheels, and troubleshooting the steering is very slow with the current workflow (enter blueprint -> modify configuration -> wait the entire unit build time -> test configuration )

Now, I bought this game on the premise of building units, then watching the designs perform in an RTS scenario, and it's pretty much what I got, although I was personally hoping for location based damage and individual module destruction (own fault for not paying attention to trailer and whatnot, as units will not lose individual modules and will function at full capacity even with 1hp left), briefly considered refunding the game, but then I noticed all the nonsense and possibilities of module editing, and I was perfectly content. I do have a mild gripe with how chunky and mostly ugly every unit will look because of the modular system; Updates with colourisation and decal placement options with certain hull modules has seen a remarkable increase in aesthetic options. There is a lot of room for careful module shape manipulation to shape the unit's visuals, but the module mounting hardpoints will invariably stick out in an unseemly fashion, and an aesthetic design will usually be penalized by longer build times and higher resource costs, if somewhat offset by higher health values because of the extra parts.

All in all, in its current state, completing the campaign was a mostly enjoyable experience (there were a few difficulty jumps), half the missions will require unit preparation and testing in the sandbox in advance, but that is part of the design challenge, and the excitement for next tech/module unlock or upgrade is quite motivating.

Very strong physical&graphics effects!
There are verious kinds of parts with their owns properties!
The most amazing thing is that the structural parts are editable!
The combine of RTS&LEGO is also innovative!
Very potential!!!

After Recent updates, the unit design has been MUCH more streamlined. Before, it was slow and clunky, which was counterintuitive for a game with tons of trial and error. However, now , i can build a unit really fast. At this point, i beleive i can truly reccomend the game to other people, as it is a really cool concept and it is done pretty right.

SPQR
SPQR

An interesting take on the classic RTS formula that has tons of potential if the devs continue to work on it.

Pros:
- Full physics based rendering and gameplay
- Fully customizable units
- Challenging and interesting gameplay
- Workshop intergration

Cons:
- Many customizations parts locked behind very difficult campaign missions
- Units generally too fast
- Maps too cluttered/large

If you can look past the outdated graphics this is a real gem in the rough that will hopefully only get better in the future.

Update: The developers have greatly enhanced the vehicle designing process and it's a huge improvement. Highly recommend this game, with the latest updates.

As it stands the game is brilliant good fun, runs amazingly well and looks brilliant with lots of great effects (wheel tracks, physics based movement), but the entire unit design process is unbearably slow. The developers have clearly made the unit factory to be a visually cool thing, but practically unfeasable to design any units quickly or effeciently. It's a difficult process to design a unit that looks decent, and moves well without tipping over. And you can forget about building any large scale or tanky armor-plated vehicles unless you want your factory to be building individual blocks for the next 5 minutes.

General Fault
General Fault

A really nice idea, but the building is terrible. Who's brilliant idea was it to queue building steps, forcing people to undo minutes of work because they forgot to do something near the start? My guess is they didn't know how to allow people to build properly, and figure out how the factory could reverse-engineer the design for building, lol. It also crashed a couple times and I lost my game (so save often). Just too much time wasted building, and the factory takes ages to build anything large. Also, got a message about not enough slots for building more units, and there is no stats anywhere showing what my limits are.

Has its set of issues. While the game is indeed fun, and you can easly find yourself spending HOURS building creations, there are certian things that bug me a little about the game :
Tutorials- while the tutorials the game provides you with are decent , you do not know the function of many diffrent ingame items and you have to find out yourself, alot of the time you just cant understand what certain blocks do which is really frustrating since there is no Fandom page for the game.
Physics- i love that this game has physics, but sometimes it ridicules. I think that mechs flip and fall too easly, it feels like they're not stable at all unless you make them long and with 4 wheels / 2 treads.
Other then that, the game is great, keep up the good work devs!

I love what this game is going for. honestly the only thing thus far that i have a complaint about is that wean my units are done building and start moving they sometimes just go in slow circles.

everytime i tell them to attack an enemy, they do the same thing as well. not all of them, but most of them.

they just. go in circles. not firing. just taking damage.

i hope this bug/isso gets fixed soon. this is honestly one of the best rts's to come out in a long time.

It's a nice idea initially, and it is interesting to tweak the designs of new units.
But it ends up being fairly dull in the long run.

Campaign is fairly generic (build stuff - kill this thing)
AI is one dimensional and story is paper thin.

TLDR verion
9/10 for a early access title.
Pros.
+ Fantastic replayability.
+ You build the way YOU want.
+Land, air, sea, undersea bots. Sometimes a combo of them.
+Transporters that transport things.
+ Lots of weapons and movment systems some of which I have never seen before in a rts and believe me I OWN A LOT of rts games.
+You can even make your own parts so you chose how the units look.
+Makes you think of how to shave off that little bit more pellets to make things even better.
+comes with a decent set of built in units to place into game to see how various things work.
+has a campain for those who like single player as well.
+You can ram things super hard and knock over enemy bots... they can do the same beware.
+highly stable in multiplayer no crashes yet and we stress tested it as hard as possible

Negitives

- Tutorial lacks tons of information. Lots of missing parts/ things that parts can do. "Check tip menu and experement to learn some missing pieces of information"
- You can run out of resourses on the map especially on 2v2 maps which can stalemate a game or stall it for WAAAAY longer then nessisary.
- Game has crash capable bugs in building tool
- No building in multiplayer. Would be extra helpful for testing purposes.
- Gun mount mounts a single gun type.

? Tutoral is on youtube... strange but not bad lol.
? Why not have structures that can generate "small" ammounts of pellets to alliveate stalemates? I have had two stalemates so far.
? why no jumpjets?

Game is Fantastic. BUILD your own units. Counter everything. Be countered! Will you make many small bots? Or large gargantuan death machines that stride upon the battle field destroying EVERYTHING in its path but take forever to make? Check.
Do you want land, air, sea, undersea combat, and combinations of all even on the same bot? Check.
Do you want intense scrambles for resourses? Check.
Do you want Super fun combinations were your imagination "and the build limit ;-;" is your only blockage? check.
Do you want a game that makes you think maybe if I put this part here? Check.
RTS Fun. Simple to learn. Hard to master.
Let me put it this way. I have bought 7 copies of this game this week after discovering it for some friends. That should tell you everything you need to know!

Quick review: Its bad. Inspired and interesting Idea, but still bad.

more indepth review:

This game looks like it should be amazing fun, but thats basically it. It looks like it should be fun from the videos and the screenshots in the store page but it really isn't. At the best of times its boring, at the worst its frustrating and down right terrible.

The first thing noticed when starting the game is the menu, I would give this aspect of the game a 1/10. Its functional, but thats about it. Its bland and boring overall.

The gameplay, it really feels bad compared to other RTS games. Generally your units tend to run into every object imaginable and need to be in overwhelming numbers when fighting the enemy(1:2 or 1:4 was basically every encounter). the harvesters seem to get confused easily as well at times and the resources on map aren't particularly obvious. The base building is minimal at best from what I got in my brief time with this game. Overall, it wasn't that fun when compared to a competent RTS like StarCraft or Command & Conquer 3. 2/10, not very well designed or balanced.

The building, its the only thing I can say is okay But it doesn't go much beyond that. It works and after a bit of figuring out, it seems like this is where all the time for this game went. It works reasonably well, but the lack of options to build with bring it down. If its not unlocked via campaign, you can't use it. These two things really hurt the building aspect, and rather needlessly. I'm honestly not sure what the developers were thinking here, but this needs to change. 3.5/10, sufficient but has flaws that hold it back unnecessarily.

Graphics, passable but not good. I knew the graphics weren't that good from the store page, I thought the gameplay would balance this out. Not much to say here. 3/10, unimpressive and unremarkable graphics overall.

Value, poor. For the flaws of the game, $13 cdn feels like too much to me for the product that your getting. This game honestly feels like it would be better priced at $3.99 or just straight up free. A better use of the money would be to get StarCraft Remastered when its on sale or you could pick up Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars(and its expansion Kanes Wrath(expansion is a definite must if your getting C&C3)). 2/10, overpriced for the lackluster quality of the content and better RTS games exist for about the same amount.

Overall final score:

2.3 out of 10, Avoid and spend your money else where.

Genjator
Genjator

I really enjoy games where I can design my own things, and this is no exception. It did take me a while to get into it, but after I did I have enjoyed it.

I've wanted a game like this for a long time, honestly. Your own custom units that are built your way, duking it out. Adding the ability to manipulate how the blocks look is awesome, as really allows for nearly limitless configurations and designs. The only downside of all this is the limit on the number of weapons per unit (10). Not quite able to make my super death walker yet, but close!

At time of this review, it is still actively being developed, and it does show some of its early access status. Unit patting isn't the greatest, and the campaign is short. But it is still a lot of fun to play. The physics (while sometimes annoying because I made a dumb design and my unit keeps flipping over) make you stop and think about what you are building. If it likely would flip over in real life, it most likely will in Uncrewed, too. The physics are well developed and play a large part in the game.

The unit designer is fairly simple and straightforward. It does have a few quirks that take some getting used to, but I found it more than up to the job. Being able to see the angles that connection points are at to each other has been really helpful in builds.

Overall, if you enjoy RTS games and want something that is a pretty fresh spin on the genre, give it a try. Being able to put your own flair on your side is fun and engages you more. It is well worth it!

Uncrewed is the game that will make your constructor fantasies go wild! You can create your own battle robot from multiple parts, which conbination is only limited by their physical boundaries. And it perfectly utilises physics so you can test your newly created mechanical masterpiece in real(almost) conditions.

Do you want to make a giant walker robot? Easy!
A hovercraft? Not a problem!
A submarine? Here you go!
A flying fortress? Just name it!
Or how about a flying submarine that can walk on the ground, mine resources and scare the shit out of your opponent? Just spend a little time and it will roam over the map under your command.

If you do like constructor games and strategies - it's a game of choise!

The only thing it lacks is just some more colorful effects and map object variety(most of maps looks a bit of the same type and color).

Draloric
Draloric

Lanceraad
Lanceraad

This is one of Steam's Gems, uncut, but a beautiful gem nontheless.
The art style nice, but it's not High Definition enough to be realistic, and the colours are not vibrant enough to make it stylish. The terrain has this good after the apocalypse feel, where nature takes back the territory she lost. But most of the time you will be looking at browns and greys. The audio is servicable.

Gameplay is where this game shines: you custom design units. Most of the parts have odd shapes which make for some interesting vehicles. You can also change the shape of the parts for even more wacky designs.
Making a unit is not to difficult, and there is a sandbox mode where you can test your army. Units are bound by physics, so a big gun on a small vehicle will cause it to roll over.

The developer is realy responsive, and updates the game on a regular basis with meaningfull content.

This is a great game for creative people and fans of strategy games. It is one of the very few games that has some of that old C&C juce.
Tanks feel like actual tanks, thundering towards the enemy base. Finaly a developer that knows turning is an important facet of movement, unlike all the RTS's that play like Starcraft.

This is one of the best RTS games in recent memory, and you should definatly give it a try.

FireFox
FireFox

The idea itself is cool, but the execution is painful and boring.

The AI is frustrating even on Easy. The pathfinding is hit-or-miss, maps are boring, you already know where your opponent is because nearly every base starts out in their own corner of the map.

Building your units is fun but I had to sit through video tutorials that opened the steam overlay and took me to youtube (taking me out of the game is a no-no in my book). Also I couldn't find if there was a "mirror" option so I ended up building one side of a vehicle and then laborously building the other side. There might be a "mirror" option and I'm just not seeing it.

All-in-all it's an interesting concept and I would love to see it expanded. I hope they add some better maps and fix the AI and pathfinding issues.

Right now I can't recommend it.

MasterKane

Uncrewed's hallmark feature is a versatile unit designer that allows to assemble war machines from a selection of blocks. Uniquely, designer has a block modifier system that allows to resize or bend blocks if you want to put some gun at the surprising angle or just want to make a cool unit exterior. It also recently added an anchoring platform that allows to turn units into turrets. One thing where unit designer falls short right now is weapon system that's not modularized to block level - you can just put up to 10 small or 5 large predefined guns.

With unit designer being in the focus, Uncrewed don't overlook other areas as it frequently happens with construction games - be sure that it's a working, full-fledged RTS in the vein of Warzone 2100 classics. Uncrewed even has a complete single-player story campaign, which is quite uncommon nowadays even for larger budgeted games. To my taste, game feels somewhat small in scale - it have a strict unit size and count limits, which means you cannot field more than 30-40 basic tanks or 6-8 large units instead of unlimited armies like in Warzone 2100. Yet, Uncrewed fits its niche quite well, bringing some fresh air to classic RTS formula.

Torgrimm
Torgrimm

This is more a first impression than a in-depth review and will be updated when I had some more evaluation time.
Uncrewed is a surprisingly solid early access title that combines a classic RTS setup with a simple but effective unit construction system.

The good things

Basics first: The game runs without hiccups, crashes, lags or performance issues (on an average system). The graphics are alright, the UI is slightly cluttered but functional overall. The unit construction part of the game is clearly the focus here and it shows. While there's still room for improvements the unit designer can be fun for hours without ever starting the actual game. The underlying physics engine seems to handle most things rather well; most concepts I tried simply work out of the box without too much fiddling. Seems like a good foundation to expand upon.

The meh things

The actual RTS part is not without problems. Gameplay, objectives and mechanics used are rather basic so far. The pathfinding is somewhat wonky and units can get stuck quite easily. The maps and the pathing seem to be a bit out of scale for the units you can design. Maybe this is partially intended to force you to adapt your unit size but even small walking units seem quite large compared to the environment at times.

Overall I'd recommend Uncrewed for everyone who likes the basic premise. You'll likely get your money's worth with the unit designer alone and depending on further development maybe even a solid RTS on top.

Trifler
Trifler

This is a fun game for anyone who enjoys designing their own units. There are wheeled, tracked, naval, flying, and amphibious mobility options, as well as non-mobile turrets. Units have multiple weapons. There is a single player campaign and multiplayer matches.

I find it's easiest to design and experiment by starting a sandbox game with zero opponents.

New players might want to check out my New Player Example (Printed) unit.

weaponspec

Play the campaign to learn the game. You start out with a limited inventory for you to design some basic units. As you progress you slowly build up an arsenal of designs which you can put into production for each new mission. During which you will be unlocking more and more advanced parts to modify or create new units. As well as being able to invest in upgrades.

Learn by trail and error. Eventually you will be able to make a unit that doesn't fall, walks backwards and blows itself up.

I'm returning this game.
Sure you can build stuff, but the model only matters for Center of Mass and hitpoints.

It's got a good modeling engine, so if you wanted to recreate units from another RTS game, maybe it's good.
But the mechanics aren't anything to write home about.

All of the intresting stuff you get via the campain somehow, but it doesn't incentive any playstyles with tradeoffs, just upgrades as far as I can tell.

The UI is also lacking.

It's an intresting concept, but not fun to play.

Xursed
Xursed

Its sort of fun but it feels really lifeless, no story. Its to unbalanced for muilti player.
That being said making wierd bots is pretty fun and I got some good hours in this so I would recommend if you are really into strange RTS games. The robot building is kinda meh but good enough

Other RTS that i've played are

Starcraft 1 & 2
Warcraft 2 & 3
Every C&C games
Impossible creatures (Probably the closest thing to this)
Every Age of empires game
Age of mythology
Company of heroes
Total Annihilation
Spellsword 3? (Not sure if thats the game I'm thinking of)

Probably a dozen other strange RTS games.

Soup
Soup

It's a neat idea, but the campaign, the UI and the balance (extremely fast speed of units relative to annoyingly short range of fog of war) could use a /lot/ more polish. The game engine runs very well, however.

Would I recommend? A solid maybe.

The game is really cool. Construction is simple, yet allows for very complex creations. the main thing to keep in mind is that the damage is HP based, not localized to a specific part (parts add X HP based on part size and material, nothing removes parts off your units). At its current cost, it is worth the money. It could, however, benefit from a server browser and more players.

Merky1
Merky1

I got stalled out three missions in, and the enemy seems to be able to build infinite units.

Hootmon_Y_Knot
Hootmon_Y_Knot

Like taking and old RTS like Warzone 2100 with unit design features and simplifying it somewhat (fewer units per map, no patrol commands etc.) but give it a modern HD UI and screen resolutions and you kind of have this game. Like any RTS the learning curve is steep, but in this case there is no manual, if you need information your are going to have to suffer through a collection of slow moving videos or beg for help in the discussion boards. There are a few community guides but they are more about advanced tactics and do no cover the basics.

While the UI looks slick, it offers rather clunky response. Selecting units, moving the screen and most input always seems jerky and somewhat delayed. The maps are really basic C&C vintage low effort productions, mostly flat with lots of copy paste of a limited number of terrain tiles.

The design and unit creation suffers from being painfully slow and stunted in the beginning.

I hit no bugs, so it does have potential, and it seems to have a few die hard fans, so I am not writing it off, even if I find it somewhat off putting and same old same old RTS stale gameplay. Reminds me of a way cut down, but slicked up Warzone 2100.

THE GOOD

- Create your own units (loads of fun)
- Create your own maps
- Campaign mode
- Online Multiplayer
- Upload your creations to workshop
- Recreate maps and units from other RTS games we love
- Pretty solid game
- A few modes to play
- Easy, Normal & Hard mode for Campaign
- Normally gets updates

THE BAD

- Some parts like weapons and jets(used to make flying units) are bulky however this is minor annoyance
- Wish there was an upgrade center to improve your units defense, damage, range on weapons instead of finding points(data) to permanently upgrade your units.
- Community feels a little dead or they could be mute ( but for those who are active ~Thank you~ )
- You will often depend on a cost effective units to win most battles. High detailed designed units will cost a lot.

I really wanted to enjoy Uncrewed. Like Avorion, it offers the player the capability to design and build their own craft, with similar concepts in building like having to deal with physics, center of mass, and balancing energy generation, storage, and firepower. Unlike Avorion or some similar games, Uncrewed does not have an innovative, intuitive, or well developed building block system. It's horrendous, makes it difficult to build usable (by the game's physics engine and hopeless unit AI) units. In addition to being difficult to build, much less appear more aesthetic than a ball of scrap. Take a glance at the workshop and you'll see what I mean. Players try, but you just cant make units that both work well and look good.
This is compounded by the game's obnoxious unit AI- your units will get stuck on random terrain features, or try to navigate through a wall and get stuck, or fall/flip over because they cannot recognize or navigate around many obstacles including other units.
Ultimately, these issues are leading to me choosing to uninstall the game and move on. The game is pretty cheap (I bought for $9+tax) but I was still left disappointed because these two features are essentially in alpha state.

Being someone who has been burned in the past due to games that attempted this, and failed (Petroglyph's Forged Battalion comes to mind as a PRIME example), I've always had a little bit of a spot in my heart for this game, and its developers.

My favourite moments are the meticulous testing I can do. I do a lot of Function over Form, though some of my more... shall we say Ugly-Duckling creations took me through harder areas than some of my pretty, yet expensive creations.

There are major difficulty jumps throughout the campaign, but you learn. I remember my accidental recreation of D-Day with pontoon skimmers with wheels. They barely made it across, and it took around 20 minutes for even a small 'beachhead' to be taken. However, did I once rage because I thought the game was hard? Not in the slightest! In fact, the difficulty made me go back to the drawing board and rethink my design approach.

A funny thing, too, is Artillery Subs. Yes, it's a thing you can do, and yes, it IS just as goofy as it sounds.

The only gripe I have is that curved pieces are nigh impossible to get right. The custom module creation right now is FANTASTIC.

Now, I've been playing this game since Early Access, since before the campaign was even finished. I remember before the Large Weapons, and even before the walker legs. I remember how excited I felt when each new thing came out, and I hope that people who view this game and decide to give it a try feel that same amount of anticipation and excitement as I felt when I discovered what each part was capable of.

Do I recommend this game?

[READ BELOW]

UPDATE TO PREVIOUS: It is now 2022, in June. It has been a while since anyone has heard hide nor hair of the developer. While I wish they are okay, I cannot recommend the game anymore - the community, more or less, turned to vapor (Not much of one to start, unfortunately) and those that remain are, well, well-wishers now.

The other stuff in my review still holds for the game, but unless you convince friends of yours to join in, there's no actual multiplayer around. Most of your time will be messing around in the editor and making cool things, and that's fun... for a time, but there's only so many times you can try to make 'insert cool thing here' before you end up becoming burned out.

I hope, wherever you are, developer, that you come back and give us some indication that you are still alive and kicking. These last few years have been a real doozy.

The game isnt bad, but i cant recommend it right now
why?

the multiplayer is weird, you have to enter a code to join a lobby or wait for a 1v1 match which ofcourse doesnt find you a match (probably because nobody is playing). So dont expect multiplayer to be a thing with this right now

Unit creation is really good! BUT really really annoying! the parts connect from the center of the panels and blocks (really limiting) and the custom block creator is interesting but you cant overlap corners meaning you cant do a perfect corner block.

The gameplay is very basic, no armour system, no weakspots on parts and only 2 types of blocks (normal and light)

No engine mechanic for vehicles

Workshops is a great addition, but not all much content on there right now.

Honestly ill be keeping a lookout on this, it has good potential but giving that this is no longer early access it still feels very much like it.

EDIT: there are also no turrets for tanks, just sticking a gun on top. so making tanks is basically making tank destroyers (pretty bland and annoying)

Fantastic game, truly a must have if you have an ounce of creativity. Id personally like to see more range on most weapons and bomb payload weapons for planes. speaking of planes I'd like to see two types, helicopters and fixed wing. I want my aircraft to behave as such. also perhaps a rotating turret like you would expect on a tank. Otherwise its almost perfect!

its a decent game with a bit of a learning curve, i spend more time just designing units than i do actually playing in combat matches!.

firstly love the game , - the game idea , defantly recomended for any RTS player . i have gone threw a lot of rts's the things that realy makes RTS is the RTS abilty to relateabilty to the user , such as Starcraft which has whole ceimas to relate you to the units . This game attmepts to realte giving you the abilty to make your own units which is fkn awsome ! , only one game in histroy has done this before , that game is WAR INC . i enjoyed that game but there is a reason there are no remakes of it . now while alot more gagets would make this game more even more intresing .

the game needs a lot more work before it becomes a hit , and quite possabily as big as SC or Rise of Nations ect , its not even in the grapic settings . id say it needs some form of infantry units that have personality and some heros and villans - so to speak . wepon cost needs to be moderated a little better , namely more expensive , expicaly for the medium and large wepons . wepons and systems should add up CPU points , or at least have slot bounuses for vecicals that have no wepons or less prespuslion , like a weak truck cost the same CPU as a well built lite tank or things that lower CPU usage like the mining unit , ( bonus avial on if there are no guns ) . the present set up is vary lax , it dose alow more cretavity as that it is the CPU slot that realy clasaifes the power of your unit , and not what it is made of . air jets are a little op right now . would love to see a helecopter . Tech tree should be almost a seperate page where each item is resurched sepeartely in realtion of unused power from the main base . but i still will put 200 more hours on this game easy the way it is .

great game , gald you built it .

When I started playing I knew I was hooked. An RTS where you build your own units? Brilliant!.. I also hadn't encountered any bugs whatsoever during my play-through. What I like about this game:
- Having the freedom to make your army truly yours with decals, paints, and color schemes.
- Built in easy to use map maker.
- Campaign
- Sandbox to test and optimize your builds for multiplayer.
- Constant updates to the game, a refreshing sight.
- The game forced me to experiment in the campaign, It threw new challenges in my way and I had to adapt on the spot.

My gripes about the game
- In campaign, I felt like I was given too short of a preparation time to build base defenses in some missions.
- The maps you can make in the editor (as of right now at least) feel too small. I'd love to see huge maps (with increased unit sight) that the community makes where there are multiple mountains, small towns etc. to fight in.
- I found that I ran out of resources in the campaign often.

Overall I would highly recommend this game. Now if you'll excuse me I have an army to make.

Honey Badger
Honey Badger

Oh uncrewed, I wanted to love this game, I really did.

My problem with uncrewed is that it's just...Not good, it feels like a game that i'd expect in early access, don't let the 'build your own robot' mechanic fool you, it is really bad, at least in other games you might get cubes or something bigger to work with, but here, you've got parts that are really small and barely fit together, and if they do, it'll probably be a big, clunky, slow mess, you can try and make a small and fast unit, but it'll die within seconds to anything the game throws at the next level. Not only that, but the building mechanic is very clunky and slow, I'd really advise you watch a video on it to see what I mean about it being clunky.

Not to mention there's not really any kind of base building, it feels like they saw the red alert series, and tried their own spin on it, you have to place buildings on specific pads, but then you've got to make MORE of these pads to expand your base of operations, there aren't any base defences (save for your robots which you can anchor to the ground, provided you have a specific pad there), but it's just bad.

A noticeable problem though is that the game is just slow and unbalanced, your robots need ammo alongside health, which is fine, but they use resources to make, which you find out, is very quickly eaten up, and if it's not the ammo and health that eats it up, it'll probably be the mass of your robots that do, and if that wasn't bad enough, you have to use your own robots to collect said resources and bring them back to base, which are finite and chances are, once your out, you probably won't be able to get any more because the multiple enemies (which are different colours but will happily team up against you) will have already set up shop around the other resource points found in the other corners of the map.

This still feels like an early access game, which was pronounced 'finished' too early, it really should've been worked on more before it was officially released, which hurts to say because I love RTS game's, and I usually am very lenient on them, but here, it was just one problem, after another, which all built up and made me say 'Okay, I can't play this anymore', because it is simply. not. fun.

The campaign is rather short, but the rest of the game is entertaining and the unit designer is pretty nice, too.

Shabranigdu
Shabranigdu

So far it's pretty great and unique

+One of the very few games in existence where you can design and command armies of custom units with rts controls
+The vehicle designer has tremendous potential, gives great freedom to build piece by piece and it's easy to build things that work
+It's polished and runs smoothly
+It works fine and in a responsive manner, I'm not mising much in regards to essential rts mechanics when controlling my groups of robotic minions, as well as organizing my designs with custom names, paints, decals and building hotkeys
+Looks very pretty for a top down rts and blowing things up feels satisfying
+It's cheap, great value even if you just spend a few hours building something cool looking
+The dev is nice and quick to respond to questions and apparently also to address issues

-I feel with just a little more, the designer could go from being great to being nearly perfect. This would mean editting parts directly on the units, instead of pre-making the custom piece which seems cumbersome and harder to predict the result, and customizing other parts like legs, resizing them and putting stuff on them so they're not always the same type.

I kinda like this game
pros
Build a unit
its cool
Cons
Bots come way too much at the beggining
build a unit
not many building parts and boundry box is annoying
pros (again)
its pretty good
unit maker

suggestions
more parts
imbiggin the boundry box
faster build times!

My time in this game is higher than shown, I almost always play offline.

From looking at it, it seems like it will be really fun and complex enough to keep you interest for a while. In reality, it falls far short of that initial impression.

It says there are on-line video tutorials, which to me are the most time consuming and least helpful ways to learn to play a game. Doing a thing is a much easier way to learn how to do that thing instead of watching someone else do that thing. And on top of that, if you click on the tutorials, nothing happens, so even if you want to watch them you can't.

The RTS part is pretty shallow compared to most other games of the genre.

The real draw should be the unit design, but it took me a long time to figure out how to even make one that would move. When I did figure that out, they were so slow and clunky that they were immediately destroyed. Then there are bugs when you try to edit an existing design.

Not for me...

Der Liebe Frankie
Der Liebe Frankie

I like this game!

BASICS:

This is an RTS that has ship-design. You might want me to call it "bot-design". Okay - but I'm calling it ship-design.

If you liked Supreme Commander - this plays somewhat similarly, though I haven't found a lot of the features that made Supreme Commander great (like the gigantic route patrolling).

Pros:

- Responsive dev (see original Thumbs down review dripping with all sorts of drama and cliff-hanger suspense as the irate customer has had just enough of this kind of shit, only to be calmed down by customer-whisperer dev to the rescue)! :) Yes responsive devs: WE LOVE YOU.

- Ship-designer is not bad - it takes a little getting used-to though. It's not immediately obvious what the controls do, and it could be further improved by showing the control hot-keys hovering over the part itself as you place it, rather than in some help-text at the bottom - but it is adequate.

- If you aren't immediately blown away by the ship-designing feature of the game, the rest of it might seem a bit "seen-one, you've seen-them-all" - and probably the same could be said of Stellaris only replace "ship-design" with "ginormous tons of options" for Stellaris. So I think RTS games have to have something to make them stand out and hook the player, and from what I've seen after playing 2.4 hours - the ship designer is it - and I like it.

- Once a ship is designed it can be "printed" - they are not hot-swappable parts for changing in the field.

- The printer's part list is limited by what buildings have been created in the field.

Cons:

- The textures could be a little more vibrantly colored - something is a bit too drab with the color scheme. Ideally this would be modable for players to get whatever look they like. This is a very minor gripe, but improving it could translate into wider adoption. Again - Supreme Commander provides a good baseline, and this game comes nowhere close to that polished look.

"Yeah so what? Is it fun!???"

The fun that I've found so far in the game is definitely in the ship design. It's nice to doodle around and play with part placement, then watch the little things get spit out and run around doing their thing. For an RTS this seems very new to me I'll be coming back to this game to try new ideas for a while I'm sure.

--------- Original Thumbs Down Review START ---------------
--------- The game's dev was prompt in fixing this! ---------

Lame and racist. Yes racist against some people's genetics!

This game forces people to play right-handed.

Go read:
https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/primer/traits/handedness

"...multiple genes, perhaps up to 40, contribute to this trait. Each of these genes likely has a weak effect by itself, but together they play a significant role in establishing hand preference."

As a left-handed person, I find this deeply racist as my genetics have determined my handedness from before I was born. Why should I have to play right-handed when I am left-handed? Left-handed people matter too! STOP THE RACISM IN GAME DEVELOPMENT! SUPPORT LEFT-HANDED PEOPLE IN YOUR GAMES!

No really. Don't make me go into Windows and change my mouse every time I play and change it back again when I'm done. At least force all the right-handed people to play left-handed for a month and see how much they enjoy this. Hint: They will not. Also, this is an RTS - all keys and buttons should be configurable - but the UI should use the same UI mouse button the operating system uses - which in my case, is left-handed because Windows lets me do that, and your game is not looking at the mouse button from the OS like it should.

Something absolutely beautiful, left unnoticed by the larger audience.
The idea is great, but the project was understaffed, leaving one man to create a whole game
If this game were to see more attention before, this would have been far greater than what it is right now

and even in this state, I have to say that this is a fantastic game!
yes, there are bugs, balance issues etc.
but there also is the ability to create, to connect your designs to your strategy.
you won't run into the issue of "this unit is too weak for it's job", because you can ensure that your own designs can stand toe-to-toe with the opponents.

an absolute gem with huge potential, and decent execution.
I hope I'll once get to see this game remade, with a bigger indie studio, with a bigger audience. It is a dream, that I hope will come true at some point

rating:
solid 8.5/10
this game needs more attention, so spread the word!

Supposedly out of early access, but it still plays like it's in the Beta stage of development. Unit pathing is terrible and will frequently get stuck on terrain or eachother. There is no in-game tutorial, instead you get links to nine 1-3 minute long YouTube videos with no commentary. I haven't even been able to get to the "build your own unit" part of the campaign because my units keep getting stuck on trees.

I liked this game for a while, and I still do- updates could be faster but it's probably just a few people working on this so it's fine. I still don't understand how to make good units and I feel like this game has some serious balance issues- mech units serve literally no purpose and just die to faster things. I think it's really cool to have an RTS where you can fully design units instead of just switching weapons or upgrading parts. Also the campaign could be better in my opinion. Pretty good overall.

See that recent reviews section? It's not present, the game hasn't been updated for a long while, and when you have a lack of updates to a game like this, you have a lack of content, it really feels like once you get the basic mechanics down, there's really nothing else to do with it. The game was "released" out of early access and then there was nothing after that.

This game really could've done more with unit design, despite all it seems that there is to the unit builder, it's all incredibly limited. 49 hours in the game and I really have no reason to put any more into it without any new content. There's so much that could be implemented like new weapons or buildings.
There's a steam workshop where you can put your own units or just take a set of units that essentially give you an easy reason not to create your own units since there's already designs that you could just take and use to beat the campaign without even trying.

Game's essentially abandoned and dead, and even if there was an update, there'd barely be any reason to get into it just to play the campaign another time, and multiplayer is not worth getting into if there's nobody playing.

NOTE: pvp NOT available for lack of player base.
Starcraft is shit compared to this game.
This game is great and has so much potential.
Customizable units is cool and useful: to finish the campain with the hardest lvl you need to use custom builds because with the default ones you can't defeat the AI.
Unfortunately the devs don't have the possibility/motivation to work to the game imperfections and to advertise their game.
Still a positive review as the game is cheap enough for the entertainment it offers.
After you finish the campain at all difficulties it's game over but still worth for 9£ (a bit like battletech).

havoc7777
havoc7777

I love the idea behind this game, it has the potential to be something great, but it is unpolished and unrefined. In fact, it plays as it it was still in testing.

The game has lots of input lag, movement controls are not precise, The custom part creation is a colossal pain in the ass to use due to the game denying any form of precise movement, up/down movement both for moving the camera and for moving parts can be rather tricky when making blueprints, it is near impossible to find a database on this game, and the game makes a separate Repository (blueprints) for each game mode for some bizarre reason. That wouldn't be too bad if the dev made any effort to explain that you can copy blueprints between the Repositories (but it doesn't and you find you find out by yourself)

As that said, this has the potential to be a great game, but as it is now, it's mostly a headache.

The game also makes it look like you have more control over your tanks than any other RTS (having a unit capable of flight land, having a walker type tank retract it's legs, having all selected tanks look for a repair pad to resupply at, etc. and yet it lacks something as simple as the ability to control whether your tanks give chase or not or even making units smart enough to stay away from water when the game is smart enough to know they won't flaot when you construct them. This is especially notorious during Campaign 4 in which amphibious tanks will attack your tanks then retreat to the lank to sink them)

Last but not least, this game is a prime example of the computer is a cheating bastard. In most campaign missions, no matter how long you camp the enemy Factory, even if they have no harvesters, they never run out of Pellets. You can't have both a cheating AI and a smart AI, it's one or the other. When AI are given cheats, it is to compensate for lack of intelligence.

My biggest gripe with the game I would say is that you claim "units obey the laws of physics" and yet terrain is not destructible in any way shape or form which means a massive walker which would trample over trees is completely blocked by them.

GARBAGE! Why is this positively rated?
This game has no instructions. Nothing to help you get started or understand how to build. It has "Tutorial" videos that don't teach you anything. It just shows the buildings working.

I wasted almost 10 minutes of my life on this.
DO NOT BUY. There's nothing that tells you what to do. The controls are awkward and unclear. Nothing that makes this game worth it.
The premise is cute. Design and build your own units.

HOW? How do you even open the build menu to put down buildings? What are the controls? What do you do?
Figure it out on your own. By the time you do you'll be past the refund time.

Total waste of money and that's after getting it 40% off for under $8. It's not worth $1.

I'm not the best at writing reviews but... I kinda feel rather pranked. I ended up buying this game under the promise that it would made a lot better. I mean, I like what I got so far but it also feels kinda... unfinished.

I'll explain: Resources are limited. This is usually typical of RTS games. but.. then there is repair and resupply COSTS resources too. This will chew through any resources that you have gathered. There is also this "battery life" mechanic which seems kinda annoying and to recharge your units you have to use a resupply pad. Hell, most of the game mechanics cost but most confusingly is why "converting" costs resources. Hell, a good unit ends up costing half a resource pile ( about 800) while light units will end up dying so fast (if you can get them low like 100 or 200)
Dev has just 'finished' the game with little changes and It seems like it's abandon ware.
Units have physics so they'll topple over too. It's a minor thing but it feels a little like a meme game.
Some pieces do not have a sort of "standard" length so unit builds look kinda odd. You can duplicate blocks and change them but it's a tad annoying.
Map editor is arbitrarily tied to the smallest map size. idk why. There seems like there is also little documentation on the script modding.

If you can see past that, it's a neat game. Ngl but it just missed it's potential.
