Unpossible will test your skills, your reflexes, and even your memory. It will make you smile. It will probably make you scream. You will die often and it will always be your fault. Fight to learn the obstacles…they already know how to fight you. Relentless. Thrilling. Unpossible!

I don't really know how to express my feelings in a writing from about this game, except to say only that i really like it! ^^

Robear

Total impulse buy - glad I picked it up. Great game, soundtrack is pretty nice but nothing integral to the game, so if you want to put on your own music it's functionally a very pretty endless runner to zen out to.

Jobo Crobs
Jobo Crobs

While I kind of like this game it's really not worth the ten dollars. It doesn't need much content to be a good example of it's class, that being an endless runner, but it's really not worth ten dollars. Give it a miss unless it comes up on sale.

This game's price is lowered by the update
and the more difficult level was added.
I think they are great developers.

*The following text is an old review*

I played for 35 hours by Super Hexagon at 3 dollars.
I played for 110 hours by Velocibox at 5 dollars.
I played for 5 hours by Unpossible at 10 dollars.
And I have lost interest in this game...

I like this game's concept, but it has very few stages.
I want about 5 more high difficulty level stages.

Pretty cool game until you realize you're going to spend most of your time dying to an inability to see an upcoming wide obstacle properly, whether it's from spinning through a tunnel that obstructs your vision or being forced to the outside of the track so you can barely see what's coming over the "hill."

Even with the miserable visibility, it took 30 minutes to reach the last level. Not a great lifespan.

The music isn't too bad if you're into this genre, so if you're willing to drop a couple bucks to chill out with a fairly easy game it's okay. If you're looking for a challenge, get Velocibox instead.

Oh, and the mouse cursor disappears seemingly at random in the menu. Really annoying.

I absolutely love the layout of this game! The futuristic feel is amazing! It really keeps you occupied for minutes on end and makes you come back for more! The simplicity of it very impressive! 10/10!!

As a short review it's a great game that introduces a very well designed 3D feel to the reaction game genre. For a pretty low price of $3 (as of 16/12/2015) it definitely should provide a few hours of gameplay.

As a more critical review here are some points to consider:
1. Sensitivity is really hard to get right. Depending on what obstacles you face it's either too sensitive for small precise gaps or too slow for long winding turns. For a reaction based game it's somewhat annoying to not have a perfect sensitivity that matches the games design of obstacles.
2. Other than the few hours of gameplay I mentioned at the start I don't see this game being playable after that. Yes there are achievements but they are somewhat boring (for instance achieving 60 seconds on a certain level on 30 DIFFERENT DAYS? I get they're trying to make you play for longer but it's just boring and meaningless and there's no real sense of achievement).
3. Music is questionable at times. For a cheap game it's not awful but it could definitely have been designed to be more dramatic rather than just mere electronic background noise.
4. Visuals could have been so much better. I'm probably just being cynical at this point but considering this game was available previously for IOS and android and was originally released as $10 on steam the developers surely had some budget to ramp up the lighting in the game and sharpen the visuals (the black with blue neons had so much potential to reminiscence TRON).

Other than that I adore the sensation of being inside the game this gives you compared to my typical reaction games like the impossible game or super hexagon.

A nice little gae you can play in between without having to invest too much time, attention or patience.
The looks are quite fine, and so is the music.
Not sure whether I would have paid the - kinda high - full price for it though.

The idea of the game is very simplistic. Player should avoid obstacles while moving along its path. It's kinda like Wipeout Zone mode, but only without Zones.
The idea is very fun. However, there comes couple some catches you wouldn't want this game.
1. There is no progression. Your path is just the same 10 seconds, 60 seconds or 300 seconds into the game, so eventually it becomes boring.
2. There are literally no settings. No sound volume, no screen resolution selection (thanks god it picks up your current desktop resolution), no windowed mode. I do understand why it's fine for a mobile game, but it's totally not fine for a PC game.
3. The game plays very good with a controller. But... there are no support for a controller in a main menu. So the game is over (and it will happen quite often) you have to lean for your mouse.
4. Achievements page opens steam browser, which causes your mouse cursor to disappear. And since you need it to start a new game, things become a little problematic.

This might not be much, but it really breaks experience. Got the game for like 1$, still is not worth it. I'll prbably leave the game on a follow list, and will buy it again if I get like 75% discount, or those issues will be patched.

I really loved this game on mobile (android) so much that I was waiting for the game to be greenlit and added on steam. At last, it finally went on steam!

As for the review go, it may be biased, but who cares.

The optimization is pretty neat, however, since I have a pretty beefy computer and it's still not at 60 fps but I can play games like crysis on highest settings and get 60+ fps

But putting fps aside, I just enjoy this game because the music + reflex interactions

Also, if you alt-tab out of the game and go back, the controller settings will get messed up / wont be able to see mouse. Have to close the game and relaunch to fix this problem

I wish the game wouldnt pause every time i tab out, and wish there was an "continue audio in background" option because I like the music

Unpossible does its title justice. If you are not experienced with a game that puts you on a single track and throws random obstacles at you, prepare for a challenge.

While the first difficulty setting (Simplicity) is rather easy, the upper two (Futile, Ultra) will surely challenge you.

Additionally with the challenge of just reaching a minute on these difficulties this game comes with a exceptionally good music and artstyle - so well made actually that it might distract you a little from the track at first.

I do recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a little challenge.

ShroomSister
ShroomSister

Its really fun. It can be improved a lot especially with different texture themes and more music. In the future I expect this will be a really fun game that is very casual when you have a bit of free time to open up and play. Currently hoping on getting mouse support (so its more smooth than wasd).

A simple reflex game that is definitely worth it on a 75% or more SALE price. You will feel many kinds of emotions while you ride it out on this infinite tube of obstacles. Be fast and precise! This game may introduce you to the most intense 60 seconds of your life!

mrskill
mrskill

The game has a nice atmosphere by having nice graphics and soundtracks.

But i find out pretty fast that, there are things you can easy avoid and some things which are impossible to avoid, because you cant see where you need to be at next and as soon as you can see it, its too late and you get destroyed. No idea once more again, like in all the other games, what the developer was thinking by doing this mistake.

There are 3 levels of difficulty:
Simplicity
Futile
Ultra
And each one has a random and a memory based distance. The memory based distance changes each day.

Well, from my perspective, I think this game is good and very fun...... Random barriers need you to cross, challenging your mind and your speed of reactions. However, you do need to do some eyes exercises after playing this game, because it harms your eyes very much if you play it for a long time.

A short review on this game;

In the begining very funny game with a nice different challange i haven't meet in games before (this is the only possetive side) ,but not so funny after muting the game.
After putting totaly mute on the game ,it started to crasch and i was thinking - "hey its just one time . it probably happens now and then...". But then a secound time and a third time and so on..
i started to belive i had a virus so i run a check just to make sure it wasnt bad stuff on my computor ,then restarting the computor and trying again...
Now it have crashed more then 20 times.

And its not that i run on a bad computor ,here are the specs;
i7 4770 (3,5gh)
12 gig ram.
960gtx 2gb.

So from my point of the view is that ,its probably more funny when it works ,right now its just a piece of crap i payed for.
As it looks right now i would not recommend to buy it ,even if its cheap. - Then i would rather recommend to buy it on the cellhpones instead.
And yes i will probably get my money back for this game.

First, this game is fun, if you enjoy super hexagon and reflex games you might like this game. But there is a major problem with it: the course curves randomly.

"Why is that a problem?" You ask.

The reason is it's unfair, at times you don't have the ability to see what's coming fast enough to react. The obstacles can be hidden behind the course, or other obstacles, until you are right on top of them.

Now I'm not the best when it comes to reflexes (I have yet to beat Hexagonest in Super Hexagon) but I am aware that despite my disabilities in the area, Super Hexagon is fair, you can ALWAYS see what's coming in time to avoid it. This game is not fair, since it advertises itself as fair, I cannot give it a positive review.

This is a cool looking obstacle avoiding game. It's fast enough to trigger some adrenaline rush and give you that tingling sensation in your stomach. It's fun!

Very casual and very cheap. It's a good combination! but, even cheap as it is, I still feel there's very little entertainment here. I played for no more than 30 minutes and apart from chasing achievements there's nothing else for me to do. I've seen every obstacle there is and played at every mode there is. For a quick lunch break you could do a lot better with so many free browser games. I'll leave this review with a "yes", in case you don't want to filter through all the crappy browser games until you find a good one. You can't go wrong with this one.

Having played this game on my cellphone for quite some time I was happy to purchase it for pc as well. It is a good game and excels for wasting a few minutes of time should your mind find boredom waiting for other tasks to complete. Unpossible is simple to pick up yet difficult to master, requiring strong, constant concentration to avoid collisions. For its tron-esque appearance and addictive gameplay style I give it an 8.5/10.

I have compiled a brief list of my thoughts/ideas for improving either your play or perhaps the game itself. They are suggestions so take them with a grain of salt. It’s Unpossible that 100% of my ideas are good.

1. Have a 'training' mode where the user can select or deselect which types of segments will appear. (If there is a particular set of obstacles like the rotating triangles that keep killing you, then isolate them and practice running their gauntlet until mastery has occurred.)

2. Add variable speed scaler in either the (+) or (-) direction

3. Add color option to modify the luminosity/hue of Unpossible's color theme.

4. For PC add controller support for gamepads, analog sticks, etc....

5. Increase Max sensitivity range for controls.

6. For those who might be having difficulty add a "ghost' mode that allows the player to follow a translucent line through the obstacles. Users can follow the path and become familiar with certain 'difficult' areas of the game.

7. Simultaneous multiplayer mode (VS.)

Personal improvement area (at least it helped me)

8. When playing, stare downrange as far as possible to see what is coming and use your peripheral vision to navigate.

9. Practice when you first wake up after you've had a good rest and some healthy food.

10. Try to position yourself on the upslope of the curve to see what is coming next.

Finally, in update 3 you asked what the super hard mode past 'ultra' should be. I would vote the simple route. Call it 'Unpossible.'

The optimization is very poor and there are no proper graphics settings.

Even if you have the requirements met to play this game, it's not certain that you won't encounter constant frame drops and skipping. In a reactionary game any kind of FPS problems are unforgivable.

Unpossible is a minimalistic yet very addictive and fun reflex game.
I personal really like the style of Unpossible, simple but beautiful. Also thanks to the style of the game, you never lose your overview on what obstacles are ahead of you. The game never gets unfair. If you fail, it’s always your fault.
It’s just a press on the spacebar to start another try, and from the first minute on you have this “I can do it, I can beat my time” The game offers you 3 different difficulty’s to choose from.

If you like this kind of game, you can’t make much wrong for the little price of just 3€.

I really love games that get my heart racing from a sense of sheer speed. Normally this only applies to racing/driving games but here we have a slightly unusual example. It does feel really good to execute something requiring twitch reflexes correctly (and the pick-up-and-play nature of very simple games like this ensures that failure, although practically guarenteed at some stage, isn't as frustrating as it can be in other games). For the price, this is an excellent mini-adrenalin rush.

Great soundtrack, too. The variety of tracks certainly surprised me.

Obviously the downside is that there really isn't much to the game beyond trying to beat your records/go for the achievements. Sometimes, however, that's really all you need.

One of the best casual challengers on mobile, this works just as great with a gamepad on the big screen. Have never been so stressed and relaxed at the same time. Love the music and the graphics, while simple, are atmospheric and do the job. It helps to stay on the inside of the curve so you can better see what is coming up. Definitely worth a couple of bucks. Thumbs up!

Epikas Jones
Epikas Jones

A game where the "difficulty" is based on complete RNG, Do you have good reactions and memory? Well tough luck because they're useless here, Restart a level a million times till you get a good pattern and rail angles to line up for you, earn aches then uninstall the game or just uninstall anyways if your tired of the brainless nonsense. None of it matters anyways because it doesn't show or mean anything either does the hacked leaderboards.

Whats strange is I don't know wether to call the games main description trolling, or simply ignorance of the developer but it's spot on for being everything thats it's not, I would call it irony but after reading the line that says "eveything is your fault" I'm going to go with the ladder.

That literally sums up the entirety of the game you either have a fun successful run due to everything lining up just right or you fail due to an "impossible" pattern or angle of view, your skill matters not. What I WOULD recommend is something like Thumper where skill, reactions memory ect all matter.

Usually don't write too many nasty negative reviews but when I see devs of games being LAZY with their difficulty it just ticks me off. it just boils down to incompetence and a lack of ideas, of the which a game should not be released.

WARNING: If you get motion sickness easily you should AVOID this game, in case the trailer didn't make that clear. Rest of review below.

----------

Unpossible is similar to Super Hexagon in spirit but doesn't have its difficulty or its polish. As such, you can clear the entire game in half an hour, after which all you have left to do is beat your previous high score.

Also, while the game claims that failure is "always your fault", most of my deaths are caused from not being able to see the obstacles coming at me because of all the spinning I'm doing. That's not a strategic challenge or even a reflex challenge, it's a parse-the-game challenge. And this game is not deep enough to justify that type of muscle-memory time investment.

I wouldn't say Unpossible is a *bad* game, but it never shows me anything worth caring about and it's over before I've found anything to love about the game.

FatHaggard
FatHaggard

Its not a unique game, but it's good for the genre of game which I usually refer to as "Tube Runners" (idk if it has a name).

Pros:
- Controls are simple and responsive
- Lightweight program, easy to boot up for just a couple runs as a break from the day
- No excessive UI

Cons:
- Kind of wish it had mouse controls for more precision
- No 144Hz support, it would be really helpful in this type of game
- Music sounds like it was made in garageband, its not bad...just sounds like it was made in garageband.
- A loud noise goes off whenever you beat your record and so far EVERY SINGLE TIME that noise breaks my focus, as a result all of my PRs are only fractions of a second better.
- Might be better to play muted.

It's worth 3 bucks if you like this type of game (I own a dozen) but its nothing special

SamuraiCupcake
SamuraiCupcake

A really simple, yet really fun game with literally infinite replayability?

Pros:
-Price tag (1$ CND on sale). Worth the price: took an hour to unlock the last difficulty mode (Normal/Hard/Insane). Was fun!
-Infinite replayability: levels are literally infinite; you go as far as you can go (think Flappy Bird).
-Easy to pick up; controls are composed of left & right, on keyboard or controller (less button spamming on joystick).
-Hard to master; difficulty is super hard, but fair. Its all about memorising the obstacles... and fast thinking/reacting.
-Entrancing music that fits the game perfectly. There isn't that many tracks, but at least there's more in other difficulties.
-Smooth graphics, nice color, no framerate issues.

Cons:
-Little content. You get an infinite obstacle dodging game, that's it! (that's fine though)
-Gets repetitive. There is some randomness, but the same patterns appear every time. Only 3 or so music tracks per difficulty mode.
-Difficulty may turn off some players. However, normal mode may be enough. Cruise mode can also be used as a "screen saver".
-Leaderboards have some questionable scores. Good luck taking them on!
-Mobile port. Not a negative thing per se, but it doesn't seem to take at all advantage of the power of PC.

All in all, had a lot of fun with this one. An entrancing & challenging way to pass the time... and test your reflexes.

Highly recommend. I mean, its the price of a soda can right now.

Aprillomat
Aprillomat

For how small this game is, I expect some amount of polishing and testing. There really isn't much to do for the devs to troubleshoot a game that has so little content, so little to deviate from.
But having bugs that require you to restart the game in order to keep playing because you are randomly (while playing a level) transferred to a level select-screen for a locked level, with no option to return from it (other than closing the game) and then every so often the mouse pointer turning invisible, leaving you to blindly move it around the screen to see which buttons get highlighted *so you can actually confirm the exit rather than having to force quit*, not to mention the fact that it says full controller support, yet it doesn't even react to my controller inputs AT ALL despite every other game I own working flawlessly with that gamepad...

I just feel like the balance is tipped so much in disfavor of this game.

Even though I like the concept. Sure, it could honestly use a bit more background animations to make the rather stale ambience a bit more lively, which would help tire one out less quickly while playing. The music is also rather bland, though not displeasing - I guess it works for this type of gameplay, but is also doing nothing more than that.
And then there are the problems with you sometimes being able to see obstacles too late - all they had to do was make some of them transparent, or less wide at the top, or give them more holes. But like this, you are at the mercy of the RNG not giving you some combination of obstacles that will have you crashing into a wall you could not have seen coming a split second before (even with perfect reflexes, and I have a strong love for excruciating precision games, so long as they are fair and make it easy to see who's fault your death is - ideally, your own, and only your own fault).

With so many cons, I just seem to have to give this a downvote, given that there are so many other (and better) games out there, that have taken care of the bare minimum of troubleshooting and bugfixing to make them playable, while also offering more polish and engaging content for the asking price. Were this free, I'd let it slide, but at 3€, I expect something that doesn't urge me to write a negative review within the first 10 minutes of playing it.

A fun endless runner with a cool cyberpunk vibe. Not too hard and fairly intuitive, while still feeling like you're getting challenged in higher modes. Definitely a good pick-up-and-play game for 20, 30, 40 minutes. The content doesn't vary or expand that much, though. $3 is probably a good price, so feel free to give it a try.

CATTY&Co.
CATTY&Co.

Should be called Unplayable, because there is no option to run the game in a window, which is a simple way for developers to render their product useless on PCs that use the logically-SECONDARY display as their primary display. (e.g. media centres with projectors where the logically-primary display is only used as a console for settings). This is a really, really common mistake, and this game makes it. It deserves an additional downvote for ignoring the -windowed and -w launch options in Steam that can sometimes save the situation.

Bobogoobo
Bobogoobo

A pretty good amount of entertainment for the price. The gameplay is simple in concept but pretty addicting, like most endless reaction games. However, this simplicity makes the game's shortcomings all the more apparent.

For those starting out, there's no introduction, but from the discussions it seems the developer tried to incorporate as many possible control schemes for "left" and "right" as possible, so the game should be easy to get into. The mouse can also be used in the menu.

The biggest problem with the game is that the amount of time you have to react to obstacles (if you can see them coming at all) is highly dependent on the path and curvature of the running surface, which seems to be *randomized* on every play (primarily apparently in the daily levels, as the regular levels have the obstacles randomized as well). This is counter to the game's claim that dying will always be your fault, because even when you know the course pretty well, you can still die because you couldn't tell when and where the next obstacle was.

The daily levels are a nice addition, but they are far from fully featured. The game only shows your best ever score on each daily mode, not your best on each day, so you have to remember that yourself if you're trying to beat it, and there's no tracking of your past scores. This also means it's unclear when the daily reset is. There is only one overall leaderboard for each difficulty as well. There are somewhat grindy achievements for getting 60 seconds on 1, 3, 7, and 30 different days for the two higher daily difficulties, and these are also not tracked at all.

One other minor annoyance is that you can die so quickly that your instinctive next inputs carry over to navigating the main menu, causing you to accidentally start on the wrong difficulty. And if there's a pause/quit button, it isn't Escape, so you might just have to die intentionally to return to the menu.

All that said, I enjoy the straightforward challenge and varying difficulties of the game, and you can definitely have fun with it, especially if you want to keep coming back to try mastering the daily levels. However, if you are sensitive to motion, this game is probably not for you.

Cool game, very involved and engaging, very difficult for my personally. Would be cool if I could enjoy it but I'm not a sadist.

Like flappy bird, but stylish.
