The AI calls you a whore. If that doesn't convince you to get it, I don't know what will.

Also shoutout to the guy who recommended putting on some dnb while playing, it is absolutely the move

I wish games like this had larger and more active communities cause UT2004 is one of the best feeling arena shooters.

Just as good as I remember it.
The player count is a little lacking but that's not the games fault, but thankfully the BOTS are incredible. They feel like they are real players and that's good enough for me.

For the best experience, turn on some 2000's DnB and lose yourself.

Absolutely one of the finest arena shooters out there, and one that holds that holds up to the test of time.

It's a shame the Epic went from making games like this to well, garbage meant for zoomers and the Epic Games Store.

been playing Unreal Tournament 2003, and 2004 since i was a kid so having this game on steam instead of a disc is a hell of a lot better lol. I recommend this game if your looking for a fast paced quake style shooter!

This was the very first videogame i learned how to play on the PC as a kid. Replaying it and its still holds up as one of the best shooters ever made. A perfect masterpeice, especially for people who can appreciate the time it came from

My actual hours are probably in the thousands, thousands of hours spent in a game about who shoots faster, who moves faster, who has better pattern recognition for half-second decisions just for the sake of it, a game that has no real meaning, no teaching, and encourages a toxic ego about who is better at shooting with futuristic weapons.

Was I good? Not really, I became decent after years of suffering and fighting to get some respect, I peaked and challenged some of the best for brief moments, but rapidly succumbed to their superior innate ability to shoot faster.

Most shooters are like this, this game is or was just the real deal, no dumbed-down, pure skill in the arena is required, Quake is actually even better (and worse at the same time), the game consumes you and you don't get anything out of it, just life wasted, and wasted in frustration, you can smell the frustration even in the good ones, there a negative toxic aura around this game, no matter how friendly the server claims to be.

This is a review against shooters, I played many, but this one consumed me the most, so I use it as the best example of why shooters suck, some will say I'm whining, you are right, I'm whining because I wasted so much time on this shit, don't say later I didn't warn you.

Fuck this game.

Why did we have to stop making FPS games where you could play bots in a fake multiplayer-like fashion?

This is so much fun and just like I remember.

Greatest first person arena shooter ever made. Seriously, there isn't any arena shooter out there that is as fast paced and perfect as UT2004! Not to mention there thousands of fan made maps, character skins and mods to add to this game and they're all FREE! 100% FREE!

This game is older than me and has better gameplay, mechanics, gamemodes, maps and AI than any modern day triple A shooter.

This game, in a nutshell, is hidden gem. Not many people remember, or even know about it, but personally? It's been my most favorite childhood game. Sure it has it's flaws but every game does too. It's such a shame this game is forgotten at this point.

Fun child hood game, action thrilling, team play but even solo is very fun. Variety of weapons, characters, team making, a lot of game modes and overall a really fun shooting game. Defenetly one of the best old games.

I played this game when it came out forever ago. Coming back I questioned if it would hold up to today's games. Not gonna lie, it puts a lot of them to shame. I strongly recommend this game for anyone looking to just put on some music and start blasting away.

I remember playing this game when it first came out, I love this game. It was made so well. :D
Everyone should have the OG that spawned so many other games, after it set the standard for game engines.

A trip back to when arena shooters prioritized fun over microtransactions. I had so much fun playing assault and onslaught. I remember it came with a play disc and 5 install discs, 5! It was over 5 GB! That was insane. That was back when I thought 1 GB was huge. The game still holds up and is fun, but sadly not many players are still playing. I played this as a sci-fi alternative to Battlefield games back in the day. It was a unique and exciting experience. My favorite gun was the flak cannon and my favorite map was the Assault map on the train. Just make sure you have 33.6 kbps or faster internet. I wish this game would make a comeback. I don't want a remaster just re-release this game exactly how it is to get people back into it.

While this shooter may not hold up to more modern ones, this game has a nostalgic quality for me, as it originally came out when I was much younger. I still enjoy it today.

Vehicle support :: IMO the manner in which vehicles were added to this game was largely a competitive afterthought -- some of the vehicles feel a bit awkward, but a few of them are really cool (the raptor for one). The game wasn't really designed for vehicles, but they made it work in a few situations (onslaught mode is one example).

The thing I like the least is the space assault gametype -- its awkward and not intuitive.

Overall a great game in a series that pioneered much of the FPS world that continues to evolve even today.

This game is so good, I used to play this for hours and hours at a time back when it was released, thrilled to have it available on Steam. Plays brilliantly on Steam Deck, still one of the most fun shooters.

UT2004 still remains the king of boomer shooters. A distillation of the kicked-in-the-head, reckless spectacle of early 2000's culture. Are you not entertained!

I love this game. When i was younger i played with my brother and best friend. We played through Lan cable. We had blast.
This game is amazing, so much content..
I have only one complain. This game is very hard, so if you like casual gaming like me, you not gonna have nice time xD
Game modes like double domination is pain in the a@@. And im playing on second difficulty. Im guess im noob

UT 2004 is one of the best games of its genre. I remember having so much fun back in the early 2000s when this came out, it was fun then and its still fun now! Happy to see it on Steam and functioning fully as it has.

My weapon of choice is the Flak Cannon. Good for close to medium range. But I use it for long range too! :)

If you love Quake Live or Quake III: Arena/Team Arena, you'll likely enjoy this title as well.

Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor's Choice Edition even comes with UnrealEd if you should desire to create your own levels.

Slick, colourful sequel to UT99. Some great maps - especially remakes of classic ones - and generally good fun in the single-player campaign, though some alternate game type levels (CTF, bombing run) suffer from appalling AI imbalance. Worth a blast if a fan of Unreal.

Truly Nostalgic for me, absolutely love this game just as much as I did 12 or so years ago, Though I guess as I've gotten older I've only been able to appreciate it even more lol

SINCONIÆN

Almost constant "shot-in-your-back" simulator *duh*; but the soundtrack, level design and all well placed flak cannon and rocket launcher shots feel very satisfying - makes up the whole experience imho. To this day UT 2004 remains an arena shooter worth playing and returning to...

Undoubtedly one of the most content-rich and most polished shooters that I've had the pleasure of playing. An unbelievably impressive amount of multiplayer AND singleplayer content (including not just a campaign, but also an excellent Instant Action mode), with so many beautifully-designed maps, gamemodes, weapons, vehicles, and playable characters. Just fast-paced pure fun that you could easily play both casually and competitively. I highly, HIGHLY recommend downloading the 64-bit patch from ModDB though, as it easily fixes the "critical error" issues that some players, myself included, have had. It also DRASTICALLY increases the performance of the game; I went from averaging a stuttering 30 - 60 FPS to well over 100 FPS after properly adding this patch to the game (this is because UT2004, being from, well, 2004, was originally designed to run on then-current 32-bit systems, not the modern 64-bit systems most people use nowadays). Make sure you properly install that important patch, and you will have a blast running this excellent shooter as smooth as butter.

A really awesome game. Still stands up to most AAA games these days. Fortunately the multiplayer in this game is still alive but is sometimes pretty modded. Instant Action is personally my favorite gamemode and the music in this game is just perfect. 10/10 Game

You don't have put in hours of play time to have everything available to you. Everyone has the same gear & weapons right from the start.
