Turn-based AND card-playing? Cringe.

I love the 40k universe! Every game I've played in 40k so far has been a joy, mostly because of the story line. This game however does now follow with that solidity. The story line is weak (non-existent really) compared to other 40k games.

The overall game play when it comes to a turn based strat game is so-so. At times it seems complex and other times it seems basic/simple. Very repetitive, lose a match because of RNG and then win a match for the same reason. Overall game seems on the hard-ish side. The mobs just keep on coming and they never stop. If I spend real dollars to get better items I might be okay with it, but FUCK these games that require loot boxes to be competitive. I'm not paying extra money in a game to get to the finish line. I'd rather move on to another game....there's so much out there!

At the end of the day I'd give this game a 'thumbs up' for effort and for for 15 hours of gameplay.

Good turn based card game, especially if you like Warhammer 40k

A nice diversion inside the W40K universe; if you hate RNG well imagine combining that with random card draws. If that makes you mad, stay away, but otherwise it's a good tactical turn-based game.

This is a near miss that could be a great game if not for:
1) the crappy campaign. Specifically, all the missions designed in a way so that you need to reach a zone or destroy an object while enemies keep endlessly spawning all around you. The first time I noticed something is off when my deck with Jump Pack cards easily beat missions that were otherwise near impossible to win.
2) the basic premise of the cards representing different types of weapons that... um... the Space Marines carry around with them in an invisible backpack? Or something.
3) the laughable weapon ranges. Apparently, in the year 40,000, anything shooting further than I can spit is considered long range worthy of a sniper rifle.
4) the basic "Effort" game mechanics. If I conduct one action this turn to keep my effort below the enemy's effort, I can now do two additional actions on the next turn. The only way I can see how this makes sense is by imaging how the Space Marine shouts "Boo!" really loudly, spooking the enemy to he freezes!
5) the grinding. 5 million useless cards to upgrade.
6) the DLC cash grab.

This is a card-based tactical strategy game. Every mission will require you to recover crates, reach critical objectives and potentially assassinate a powerful opponent. The battlefield is grid based, which is where the costs on the cards comes in.

A big part of forming a strategy is when to actually make a move. Because the amount of action points accumulates, performing too many actions can leave you out of action for quite some time, leaving your squad members without support and giving the enemy the chance to maneuver around you.

Most of your preparations come before ever setting foot in a fight. You are given the opportunity to craft cards and build a deck. There are three types of decks, namely scout, space marine and terminator. Some cards only work with certain types of decks. You also have traits to choose from, which can help you follow a play style. Mostly, the choice is between whether you want to fight alone or support teammates. Neither is a bad choice, but your flexibility is limited.

You are also able to perform a certain amount of customization with your squad. You don't choose all of their cards directly, but you do choose traits which can influence the types of cards you have.

The biggest problem is not the card balance or the card collection mechanics. The biggest issue with this game is the level design. Every map is has enemies spawning into it at set points. No big deal with that, but on most campaign maps they are infinite. Again, can be dealt with good tactical game play and builds. However, the one part of this game that is ruining my time with it is the idea that enemy spawns come in and get a free turn every time they appear. So, not only do you have to deal with infinite spawns, they all go before you do when they arrive. Saps any of the fun I have with the setting and art with this game and I cannot recommend it to any fan of the turn based genre.

i'm not the biggest card-game-fan, but i'm a pretty hardcore 40K-fan.
that said, the gameplay is quite good. it's a mix of classical turnbased combat and card-game elements which works surprisingly well. there's also quite some rpg going, you don't just build "decks", but also characters (think Dawn War).
the story is entertaining and by now, with all the added dlc, rich in content.
the audio-visuell design is very good. characters, equipmen, surroundings look 40K and feel 40K.
also the dev still supports the game and offers promo-codes (for extra stuff ingame) on a regular basis, which is to be commended!
also there's no ingame real money buying of anything. you rearn booster-packs through ingame means.

all in all quite a great game and full recommendation, especialy for 40K-fans.

I played the mobile version for hours, picked this up cheap during a sale and now I'm working my way through. It is a faithful/lazy port from the mobile game in that the mechanics are exactly the same. I enjoy the combination of luck, strategy, and tactics. There is an element of deck building, luck of the draw about what cards will actually show up in your hand, and then making the most of both your deck and your squad. Overall there is enough depth to keep me coming back, I've yet to finish the survival challenge but it provide plenty of cards and forging credits so not the end of the world :-)

I've tried to like this game, but I can't think of many nice things to say about this unholy abomination. I do like that you get to kill Heretic Astartes, and that's about it. An internet connection is required to play... 'Nuf said! Other things I hate are the card crafting system, confusing load-outs, and leveling. I pretty much hate the whole UI, and whatever RAGE is in-game. The slow combat sucks. The very first campaign level is a pain in the culo! Some frak-head just sprints ahead and pulls like 20 generic re-skinned warriors who ridiculously outgun and outmatch you, plus a sorcerer, while you have to protect him. F* THAT!! I say shoot that guy, extract his gene-seed, jettison that crap into space, then try to hit it with a vortex grenade. Scaling 8 ft. warriors in power armor to look like the tabletop minis is a mistake as well. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. It's just another poorly executed 40K title. And btw, screw the Space Wolves.

Well, not a bad game, but not a great one either.

Usually I am a huge fan of the Warhammer 40k universe, and I play (almost) all the games. This one is clearly not one of the best. I suspect I went up to the end just because of the W40k universe, so I would advise you not to buy that game unless you are like me, a fan of the Games Workshop franchise.

You have been warned ;-)!

This is by far one of the worst turn based tactical games I've ever played, even among those that are not card based. I have had no enjoyment out of any second I've played this despite my great interest in the Warhammer 40k franchise and my enjoyment of this genre in general. I don't understand why there is such a great insistence on making terrible Warhammer 40k games. But this one as far as I'm concerned is the worst.

Gameplay - This game is junk. Absolute trash. This should have been a crappy pay to win mobile game. That's all there is to it. The gameplay is beyond basic. Don't believe anything they say about how many unique cards there are, I looked it up. There's little to no variety of cards. It's all built in a crappy lootbox system that turned me off completely from the moment I saw it. Why do this? The levels are boring. Just grind the same enemies 50 times until you reach the end while trying to not get bored out of your mind. There's no strategy, no tactics, no thinking involved. Just spam your deck with specific cards and you'll always win. It's not about matching deck to level, or matching armor type to objective. It's just about the cards. If you have the right cards you'll never need to edit your deck again and can go in the exact same way every level and still win. Garbage.

Visuals - Crap. Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 1 had better graphics. No real cutscenes.

Story - None. There is literally more story in Joe and Mac 1 for the SNES.

Audio - Trash. Same music every level, audio non-existant, no voiceover, nothing.

All around garbage that should not be on sale anywhere. Every time I see a piece of crap like this I vow to not give Games Workshop any more of my money. I'll pirate every single thing you put out you drugged up executive scumbags. Burn in hell for wasting my time and money.

I've had this game for some time now. Played only 26 hours. Why is that? Because this game is just a damn grind. The difficulty level is just absurd. Your force are always overwhelmed by superior numbers for example, you start with a force of three but you have to kill 35 enemies. This is where the theory of strength in number proves to be correct. It's just totally ridiculous. You need to play the same missions over and over and over. Experiment with cards so much that it's not fun anymore. It's just not a pleasure to waste so much time on a single damn mission. This must be the worst Warhammer 40,000 title that I've ever played.

I like the game in essensce. However the grind is massive. Which is a big meh. But if you don't mind needing quite long to finish the campaign (Think in years btw with the expansion) then yes it is a fun game. Sadly too many different weapons and most you will never use. But for some the collecting will/can be fun too.

This is a good CCG in the Warhammer 40k universe. I recognize that even though I didn't enjoy it, in part because of the seemingly perma-spawning of enemies and the lack of strategy imposed by the inherent nature of CCG randomness, others might. It's nice to see the developers actively involved in the game, post-release, by doing regular giveaways. I do recommend it to those finding both CCG and Warhammer 40k games enjoyable.

This is a highly underrated game in my opinion.. It is the mobile game with all the required microtransactions removed.. several times a month you get free card codes if you check its game activity... You can also grind missions to get and level cards. A comparison is think of "Metal Gear Acid"... only Warhammer and with squads that level up that have deck customization. Im 5hrs in and felt the need to add a review.

Decent enough turn based action card game. You control a team of SPHESS MAHREENS and they all come with their own decks of actions. You can build the deck of the main character as you want and play through a long and challenging campaign or play in PvP.
They give away card codes ever Friday and I would recommend picking up all the codes as it will ease the burden of collection by a lot.

In short, decent game - might be worth a try. 6/10.

This PC port of the mobile Space Wolf game plays really good. You spend your time either in mission with a squad of up to 3 Space Wolves or levelling your equipement in the armory. The music is okay but the weapon sounds are really good. Punchy for the big guns and satisfying squishy for melee weapons. The base game will give you 15-20 hours of gameplay.

The missions always set you against overwhelming numbers of enemies. You tend to play more defensively in your early game but with better equipement and higher ranks you will go on the offensive more often. Both gameplay loops - in mission and levelling up equipment - are fun on their own. I could totally nerd out for half an hour about the perfect weapon combinations for my squad leader.

Upgrading weapons and equipement is done via cards. Duplicate cards create a higher tier version. You get cards as mission rewards, random card forging from ingame currency and weekly promo codes. Best use all promo codes in the news section of the game. This will give you a huge boost in cards. After a few missions you can also start levelling up your squad members and you main "hero" in the armory, providing even more power.

If you think about getting DLC, then I would suggest "Saga of the Great Awakening". This another campaign but more challenging the base campaign. I also enjoyed the "Sentry Gun Pack" that allows you to deploy turrets in mission that draw enemy aggro and punish attacking hordes.

Not sure why I've wasted 15 hours on this. Guess, it was sunk cost fallacy...And I wanted to see if it became better...and I love Warhammer.

What you get with the Deluxe edition: 4 campaigns that have to be played in order, but never change the gameplay or objectives. It's always "go there" and "destroy this" and sometimes you even get something like bosses. The last campaign introduces a new threat: the Necrons...too bad they just don't change the gameplay at all.
There's also 2 kinda endless Horde modes? And 2 more solo missions or sth like that. But it's just a grind, literally.

Without the Deluxe edition you actually have to grind for cards, levels, better gear, etc. I say this, it's relatively fair with the DE. I could complete every mission on easy without much trouble, but it still stinks, because gear is completely luck-based. And your main character needs to get the killing blow to level up. Combined with the glacial gameplay and enemies constantly denying you cards when they hit you (a lot of enemies do that), and the few movement options it just becomes a chore to play.

There is no voice acting, the presentation is shit, the graphics are "fine" for a mobile port, the animations are boring and the sound effects not unique (bolter sounds okay though).

It's just...at best mediocre. A discount version of the tactical combat of an XCOM for instance...and a lot worse than Mechanicum, which was actually a pretty decent entry, probably the best turn based Warhammer 40k game in ever. Too bad this was never expanded to encompass "more" than just Mechanicum vs. Necrons.

They should have just made a xcom clone with space wolves, it would have been awesome.
This is like a combination of xcom + hearthstone/magic the gathering and it kinda sucks.

Rocket
Rocket

It's sorta kinda not good. Pacing and gameplay is awkward, a map takes forever to play and often times you have to play it once to learn where everything is before you can go back and complete all the objectives. To have a viable deck you either have to grind ridiculously or just let time pass and take advantage of the once a week promo codes the developers post. Not a terrible game but there are definitely better things to do with your time.

Image17
Image17

Worth it when on sale even in 2020.

There are a lot of solo missions to complete and if you enjoy the gameplay you will have many hours of fun. Worth it just for that.

When solo missions are done, game modes are rather grindy and can take more than 30+mins per session, so not a really quick game. Devs changed predatory mobile "pay to get good cards" to "grind and get good cards" - a good solution.

Watch some YouTube plays before buying as gameplay is unique and has silly elements to it (space marines pull weapons like Lascannons out of their asses for one shot use and then discard lol).

Would hate to have paid full price for game + expansions however, great value during a sale!

INTRODUCTION

I have owned and played the game since launch, picking up the DLC's as they dropped but have taken my time to review this once mobile-only game as it has taken much time to fully explore all the game has to offer...and I'm still not entirely done.

REVIEW

There are many gamers who dislike any and all mobile ports, something I have never understood even as a stalwart PC gamer of 40+ years (yes I was playing as a youthful Blood Claw with the very first PC's). I welcome all W40K games ported from mobile, sometimes yes even the not-so-good-to-downright-awful.

The game itself is a variation of a RNG TBS, but using cards as opposed to dice, with some cards 'linking' with one another to cause more damage, or raise your defence value (eg. equip with a Heavy Bolter and have several "Use" Heavy Bolter cards that stack when you fire the equipped Heavy Bolter). This means that, as with "Warhammer: Underworlds", the TT and Videogame, the creation of and continual tweaking of your card decks is the biggest aspect to the game. And with weekly "Promo Codes", adding more cards or booster packs this will long continue. Using them combined with clever strategy in combat proves to be great fun, and a game within a game.

Not only is tweaking your card deck important, nay necessary, for the challenges the player also need to to be constantly aware of where all of your squad is at all times, and their facing in battle. This will often affect your card choices. Build a deck for say your Terminator, try him out in battle in one of the many Challenges, find it doesn't quite work and then tweak some more. It never gets old.

The graphics are serviceable, as with any mobile port and were enhanced from the mobile version for PC release. The look of the wolves and your opponents is great, and the kill animations are a nice touch...especially the bullet to the skull. These occur at random and make for great screenshots to share with the passionate community.

The game is made up of several layers. There is a Single Player Campaign, Challenges and Stories to play through and with the DLC's, added content (such as Sentry Turrets, Challenges or a character) it will take quite some time to fully explore the entire game, always a plus for SP gamers like me. There is, of course MP if you so choose but my skills are not anywhere close to being good enough to take on the young guns of today. The Challenges have your chosen squad fighting against waves of enemy, that vary from Traitors, Daemons and misguided to Cultists and The Damned. One of the DLC's, "Fall of Kanak" has you playing as a Khorne Champion, fighting alone against waves of Khorne Cultists and the like, collecting skulls with each death to compete on the Ladder of Skulls. Can you reach Daemonhood, gaining the favours of Khorne, or will you drown in the attempt?

You can set your preferred difficulty but there is a unique twist. If you set the game to Easy, the enemy might not be as strong but there will be more of them, making achieving secondary goals (always important for a completionist like me) nigh on impossible to accomplish. This will have many replaying the same Campaign mission many times just to get that Gold Crate, or achieve another secondary goal, and changing the difficulty to at least Normal to try to achieve them. It's a good challenge for even the casual W40K gamer, or simply those who enjoy card-based TBS games.

It is a flawed gem, in that as described the difficulty settings can actually make completing all goals impossible by lowering the difficulty, but with Deck Building, Forging and weekly codes to redeem new packs of cards/ card packs the game never really gets old. I think I have spent far more time tweaking my decks than playing at times, as it is just such fun.
The squads can be customised not just with their decks, but in their appearance as either the Space Wolf classic look, or to up to four variations of Deathwatch armour, with or without helms.

CONCLUSION

Give it a go. It really is a time sink game, and well worth having in your W40K collection, especially if you are a Fenrisian fellow, spurning the attentions of those secretive chaps from Caliban. Playing as a Khorne Champion is also great fun.

A must-have, especially at Sale for any son of Russ. For a mobile port, it doesn't really get any better than this for fans of W40K. if you spurn mobile ports, all I can say is you are really missing out.

TLDR - I wouldn't recommend

I bought this years ago on discount and was aware of potentially being disappointed. The overall game design seems to be tailored for mobile, relying on booster packs to expand cards. Although this is less an issue for PC, the design is still there in the game which is annoying.
I was genuinely quite enjoying the game, but a strange bug prevented me from loading the game which I read online other users were having same issue. After months of no patch and minimal information from developers I gave up reinstalling the game to check, (not sure if it's been patched now).
Being a fan of 40K I wasn't too concerned by having every character being allowed access to the entire arsenal of weapons/equipment (even if in lore it makes no sense).
The RNG element to card draw may frustrate some as you could draw badly allowing minimal options to defeat enemies, gaining more booster packs to expand card range and better equipment again is prevalent.
The tile based and fire arc system was good, some strategic elements to positioning and load-out, but overall relies on RNG of card draw, as you use cards to take attack.

Mobile port

Free2Play grind is somewhat cut with the store price, but whenever it is PvP or even campaign, you are expected to grind.

The first campaign is enjoyable, the Awakening is horribly uneven crap. More enemies spawn after you kill earlier ones, so it might be tactically better to leave them alive. Mission objectives change, but as the change is always the same, it is just meant to throw you off first time and prolong play time very artificially.

Nice mechanics, acceptable graphics, lots of cards, but at least the single player experience is ruined by the horrible missions in Awakening -campaign.

Game needs an alternate way to farm cards. Escort missions are basically impossible thanks to the AI control being abysmal. Your AI NPC will make the worst decisions regarding card efficiency, but the enemy AI will get every card they need and roll everything just perfect. I first encountered Space Wolf in it's mobile format. I found it fun, but a tad pay to win. Seeing that the steam version was on sale, I gave it a try, as I had read it removed the microtransactions of the mobile version. This version is a thousand times better. There are no microtransactions, the game is more refined, the graphics are better, the maps are bigger, and unlocking new cards is nowhere near as grindy as in the mobile version. 10/10.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf isn't completely devoid of cool ideas, but its card game components aren't woven into the game elegantly enough to be a benefit.

There aren't enough cool or interesting cards, and the way that enemies spawn into the campaign maps in waves of 2-3 dampers some of the epicness that this game could have had.

If you're looking for a strategic game using the Warhammer IP, you have better options.

As a fan of the W40k universe, I have given up on the quality of games that are coming out under the GW banner. You buy a title, play it for 20 minutes and give up in desperation. This, however, was a nice surprise.
Obviously the game isn’t perfect – the visuals are good, but it is clear that a higher budget is needed to properly represent the awesomeness that is the dark world of 40k. The story is barebones and that’s me being generous.
But the gameplay is addicting. I like the mixture of tactical combat and deck building the developers have introduced. And there’s free weekly cards!

Was pleasantly surprised with the game’s depth and the amount of content available. Despite the game being tactical in nature, battles can become fast and hectic, with obscene amounts of enemies spawning wave after wave. If you are ok with failing and trying a level several times over, then you might enjoy this one.

Clownthulhu

TLDR: Game mechanics are kind of hard to understand, game plays super slow to the point of being boring, I realized I'm only playing this game to say I beat it so I can be done with it and not because I'm having fun.

I usually don't have an issue with slow tactical games, especially Warhammer ones, but this one just feels extremely slow to the point it's boring. Playing through the single player campaign, I find myself wanting to see the next part of the story or what new mechanics/scenarios the next level will offer but the story is pretty bare bones 8 missions in and the scenarios are just your standard protect this guy, kill this guy, go get this thing, etc. The card system for equipment seems in depth and well thought out but it takes too much brainpower for the deck building to just have fun playing the game. Even with taking the time to focus on the deck building and playing on normal difficulty I'm regularly failing missions. I find myself formulating plans by comparing the damage my card will deal to the health enemies have and then suddenly my weapon does 1/4th of the damage listed, presumably due to accuracy or some mechanic I don't fully understand, and even after the tutorials I don't feel like I fully understand the mechanics of this game.

My overall experience has been each night I hop on for an hour to try to progress in the story line, spend the first bit deck building, play some missions and constantly think "omg just stop spawning enemies so I can finish this boring mission already", play the same mission 2 or 3 times due to failing it, quit and go to bed feeling annoyed and unhappy.

Game is VERY tedious, I've heard of turn-based but this is ridiculous. you need a whole turn just to turn your character. There definitely quality of life improvements needed.

Bought the game on discount with all the expansions and so far I haven't regretted it. Too often I got a turn-based game just to be disappointed because everything felt like doing chores. This one satisfies my original X-Com mood without being excessively tedious. The only criticism I have is about the lack of rewards for replaying a mission. Without that it is impossible to upgrade my whole squad and I will have to choose who will follow me in the next missions. In my opinion no grind at all is as bad as too much grinding. Of course I'm talking about the single player game, because there are some rewards for PvP but not all of us like multiplayer.

If you enjoy the turn based Warhammer universe you will like this game. The missions are hard but doable upgrading your cards is essential as is redeeming the promo cards. The effort system which is a novel but basic way to ensure that you can enable your squad to get that first shot in which is vital. So next time you see this game on special get it but only on special with all the dlc's.

I honestly don't get the negativity related to this game.
Yes, it is the PC port of a mobile game. Yes, it is a hard game (at least in the Campaign). Yes, it plays more like a tabletop Kill Team scenario, but with cards. Yes, the MP is dead and it requires a live internet connection. But c'mon. It's 2021 (last day of 2021, in fact - while writing these lines). Who doesn't have access to Internet nowdays?
The story is forgetable, but gameplay wise it is a solid tactical game. You play it, it gives you a type of currency that you invest in unlocking, crafting and upgrading card decks - originally split by the types of armor, your hero unit can wear: Tactical, Scout or Terminator. Additionally, there is a skill tree that you can level up in order to add more abilities to the deck and a few level ups for the squad members. One thing to note: there are a total of 3 mission characters, with a larger pool of possible choices available, so variety is also assured.
I've been playing this on and off and i have to say that it really scratches my Warhammer itch. Get it and see if it works for you. It often goes on sale and it's dirt cheap (~4 euros).
PS: there are a lot of card codes floating around the internet for this game. Use them and boost your picks. You won't regret it.

This game is so good, and so shyte. No matter what I do, I cannot beat the necron lord. I waste hour after hour grinding the challenges to get random shyte cards, that aren't one of the few I'm after, and then can get no where with the campaign. The game is really fun, and challenging. I just hate grindy games. I went through the whole campaign, and on the 'Defeat the Necron Lord' quest, I simply cannot get it done. I've tried over a dozen times now, at sometimes several hours per try. I wish to every god there is that I had never started playing this game. F&*k the grindy BS. I don't have time to be sitting around playing this all the time. If you complete all the previous quest missions, you should have what you need to get the next mission done. The deck building mechanic is really fun and unique, but the fact that all the cards you receive at any given time are random means that you never get what you need. The challenges and story add ones are really fun too. The only one worth doing when you're endlessly trying to grind your way to the few cards you need is the Khornate Berserker one, but it's really fun and challenging in it's own right. This game really chaps my azz. Great game, fun dynamics, great graphics, tactics, and all that; but do yourself a favor and save yourself a mountain of frustration: just don't start playing it. It really is a great game, just so grindy, and (surprisingly) tough.

Very nice good and deep Turn-based Strateg game in itself.
But for some it may just be enough with completing the Campaigns, and be done with it. If you´re into playing, grinding and combining tons upon tons of Cards and actually have the patience you are into some really truly nice surprises regarding special Cards.
Do I recommend it?
If you are deeply into this genre and just LOVE Turn-Based Games with Cards in it. It is surely for you.
If you like Card games from time to time, it can be worth getting this.
If none of the above, forget it. Spend your money somewhere else.

One thing I must mention though, regarding the players who got into Early Access was not given all in-game items as promised, I´m told. That was kinda bummer. But for sure, no need to bother about that if you new to this game.

Anyway, all in all...

Got A little bit into WarHammer Lore after playing this game years ago, and i was quite impressed. The Gameplay is for the most part smooth, The Weapons are pretty damn cool too, as well as the overall enemy composition throughout the game's story. Haven't seen anything genuinely bad outta the game. The icing on top is the free promo codes every week, for sure. Thank you Developers I appreciate the game you spent a good deal of time to make!

The game is very fun but buggy, so play at your own risk. There's a necron character that will freeze the game anytime it tries to heal, which is obviously frustrating.
The gameplay is basically mechanicus but with a deck of cards for moves rather than moves that require energy to activate.

The card system is original (the effort system is something interesting) and I really appreciate the fact that we can "grind boosters" inside the game.

However, I am disappointed with the game mechanics and I find them "counter-immersive", meaning they are adverse to the experience. We use cards as if they were weapons equipped without carrying them as equipment. It's as if we would have a dozen different weapons at the same time on a single space marine. It destroys the possible immersion of equipping a space marine with one or two specific weapons and being restricted to that, which would have been more fun.

Yet some other cards are real "equipment", that we must equip before using. These are interesting and I think they should have sticked to equipment cards only and that would have been better ; a set of equipment giving a set of cards.

Damage and accuracy are more or less based on rarity, with some legendary cards doing much more damage than the less rare ones, but it follows unsurprisingly the same system and we constantly have about the same accuracy chances and damage between "enough" and "not enough". For reasons unknown the cards don't mention their range unless you put the mouse over them, or their "hitting pattern" unless you select it for attack; I mean that the cards themselves could have displayed more information on a card-based game.

With the exception of these low quantity legendary cards we want to pick sometimes, we are rather protected from randomness for a card game, because of the way damage works and the way most cards are comparable with each other.

The second thing adverse to the immersion is that they don't have a basic movement system, instead we can use "some cards either for firing or for movement", so lacking a base movement we constantly use guns to walk. This is very tiredsome in these campaigns missions where we must get to a specific spot. There "are" a few move cards we can include instead of guns or others, but that does not sound very useful.

The deck also does not seem well represented to me once ingame, meaning how many cards we pick by turn, how many are left, how many are in the discard pile.

Managing three decks, meaning three different characters, in a game where the equipment is not immersive at all, damage and behavior is fairly generic, movement is not immersive too, has been a mixed experience to me. This is what led me to not recommend it.

It's not a bad game by any chance but it can be a bit much at first. Once the system is learned and you understand the spirit of the cards and the message of destruction and death that they mean to the enemy it gets really fun.

a mix of tactical xcom and card battler, a good idea actually,
but this failed in both.

there's not much tactical/strategy needed, it's all just, you move, attack or do some support action, which is all depends on luck by the way. there's no cover when you move, no terrain advantage whatsoever, you only move just so you can shot at the enemies. heck it is better to not move at all and let the enemy come at you so you can have attack initiative.

the card system is just there to cater card battler fan I suppose, but it really lack variations, most of them are either move card or attack card, few healing/support cards, but that's it. maybe there's more if you played long enough, but it really lacking for me. it's very boring if you're into card games. so there's nothing good on the card aspect either.

while the other aspect of the game is not that bad in my opinion, the graphic, 3d models etc,
I can't recommend this to others.
if you're a real fan of this series [not a fan meself], maybe it's worth to keep.
but if you expect a strategy/tactical or a decent card games from this, you're gonna be disappointed.

Overall seems like a good turn-based isometric game. I would probably give it a higher score, but I just don't like the card system. It feels very unnecessary. Although you can technically play it on your phone, I much prefer to play it with a mouse.

I am a fan of the old 1st edition Space Hulk boardgame. Unfortunately it seems like every version of computer Space Hulk ever made has been severely disappointing. I like space wolf because it feels a little like space hulk, turn based combat on a square grid, but is not as disappointing as the others. It has problems, most notably a seriously clutzy interface (would it have killed them to include a minimap?). The deck building mechanic has a lot of cards to choose from, and figuring out which cards work best adds some interest. It's cool how choosing between terminator, power, or scout armor affects card choice. It's annoying that you have little control over the decks of the side characters, later in the game I find my side characters spend way too much time discarding trying to get useful cards into their hands. The effort points system is a brilliant concept, and makes the various issues more bearable.
