I got this game a few years ago and thought it would be fun. and it was... for a few hours. then it just became tedious and the only reason I kept playing was to finish the game. AND I DIDNT EVEN DO THAT! I had to look at wikis and guides for almost everystep and I eventualy gave up and deleted it. this game has so much potental! It really does. But it need work. The story and skills to name two. I could go on and on about things I would like and things that need to be fixed. I have a list (Really).

Dont get me wrong! I love the concept and idea, its a fresh take from "Just survive". if this game was "improved"with the Devs taking advice from the playes then I will 10000% give this game a 10/10, but for now, sadly its getting a 4/10 for now.

This game is fun, and the only bugs I ran into was my screen occasionally having a white bar across the screen.(maybe once every several hours) I'll also note that in the temples after a lot of enemies spawned it slowed down my pc, merely saving and reload fixed this issue, which happend once every temple visit. However, I imagine pc specs play into when the slowdown happens. My specs -> AMD FX-9590 Eight core, 32 GB Ram, Nvidia GTX 970 Graphics card.

Pros:
+ Extremely vertical and varried world. If you fall, you could end up falling for miles
+ Decent exploration. You never know what you will run into.
+ Airship battles
+ Abandoning your airship to sabotage another from the inside.
+ Fire system. It can spread, and take out your entire ship if you're not careful.
+ Sky whales. Enough said?
+ The most terrifying underworld I've ever seen. Honestly, I don't think I can ever go down there.
+ Grapple hooks. Better swinging mechanics than most spider man games.
+ Using animals as parachutes. Not that I would do something so cruel...
+ Allowing you to attempt to fix your airship while in free fall, instead of just saying game over.
+ Allowing you to get stuck in areas if your ship gets shot down and you don't have another
+ Hijacking other ships.

+- Ship Ammo at first is hard to come by, but it did lead to the most epic demolition derbys ever so I'm not sure thats a con

Cons:
- optimisation is a bit meh. It dropped into the single digits on my nvidia770 during a few of the scripted sequences. Specifically the ones where a lot was happening, buildings turning to sand and such.
- Loot system can be a bit mean when I spend forever shooting a crazy armored guy with my weak gun and he drops a walnut to congradulate me.
- Camera doesn't zoom out as far as I'd like when flying airships. I've hit more buildings than I can count because of this.

Overall: Way better than they get credit for. Not many games let you fail as hard as this one, and even fewer let you manually climb all the way back up every time you do.

Wow, this game has a great storyline, pretty great pixel graphics, good for gamers that are willing to try for something, and spend some time on it :D.

i really like the game the only issue i have with it is the view and the devs left it to die, id like to think theyd come back
but i cant see that happening.
but you have a grappling hook so its ok...............right.

Alright, where do I start? First off, ever since i watched Avatar, the movie with the large blue creature tribe, I've always been fascinated with floating islands, always loved the concept, this game fulfills that fascination better than i imagined, the controls are great except for having to get used to the character sliding a little when changing direction at full speed, which is a bit more realistic than a certain other game that allows you to stop instantly when moving at over 50 mph on foot, and i do very much enjoy the graphics. Overall, the progression system is excellent as no material is ever scoffed at throughout the game, ie copper is used in wiring, iron for steel, etc.. Just a fantastic game in my opinion.

Windforge is a game that is simultaneously the best and worst kind of game I've played.
ok, let me elaborate.

It's an amazing concept: this gaseous world where you build your own steamships and go across it and hunt (or save) sky whales and other cool stuff, and don't even get me started on the gas layer!

the execution is, lacking, to say the least. The game seems to crash more and more the more I play it, not to mention the complete lack of dialogue or proper aerodynamic physics (shape of your airship doesn't matter as much as it should)

if the devs were to come back or, hell, even sell the rights to another developer who would fix the bugs and all that, they could make the game a really good buy. that's it. all they need to do is make the game FUNCTIONAL. unfortunately, that's too much to ask.

tl;dr it's a great idea, but horribly executed, so only give it a try if you're willing to put up with A *LOT* of flaws for the sake of a few awesome ideas with potential

Wasnt very fun, crashing constantly within the two hours of playtime... every few minutes it was just crash after crash.

I would recomend it to others because its so fun trying to build a battle ship thats very moblie and just trying to balance assault, defence and mobility. The only downside is that its not multiplayer or if it does its not very clear to me.This is a good game and its got a copious amount of fun challanges.

Game is pretty good on its own way and its unique (ship and fliying whale concept) but while playing there are some irritating problems about games physiques engines and its poor character desings (1 hair shape for each gender /or bald) grappling hook may lag and catapult u away from your ship and probebly to a void which u will fall and die soo save your game each 10 minutes or so .whales are cute as long as u dont hurt em. anyways temples : place where u get soo angry at the random monster or enemy soldier spaws not even talking about the maze like desing where u cant find the boss room until u get frustrated (there are exeptions like first 3 temples in the wildernes part of the map) other than that its pretty fun game but if u play it too ship based u will get bored of the game cause it starts to feel like rinse and repeat.(note:i wish some game developer remade this game with better physques engine and desings this game got soo much potencial.

Great idea, unfortunatley not executed well. I fell in love with the awesome whales and airships you can make, but there are glitches all over the place.

Windforge is a pretty interesting game in 2D exploration/building genre, which could be great if it didn’t suffer from bugs, certain annoying mechanics, and general feeling of unfinishingness.

The main unique feature of Windforge is that you travel around the world in entirely customizable airship. Everything you add to your airship in Windforge affects its performance: propellers determine its speed, balloons help the airship stay afloat and rise, turrets are used in combat, engines are required to power other devices, and even blocks and cosmetic furniture matter in that they weight your ship down.

Unlike games like Terraria or Starbound, Windforge's focus is almost entirely on exploration and fighting rather than building: in fact, you will likely only build your airship, as there’s no point of building a house. Windforge also has almost no decorative items, and most of decorations it does have are not actually available for player to make or collect and place on their airship or house.

When it comes to combat, the challenge is average at best. While enemies can be dangerous during early to early-mid game, the AI is terrible, which is particularly noticeable in ship combat: it is too easy to outmaneuver and destroy even much stronger AI ship. But certain enemies, like krakens or large dragons can still present a danger to you or your ship through mid-game. Bosses are also a disappointment: they generally have similar attacks and attack patterns, and like most enemies suffer from terrible AI.

Aside from poor AI, another glaring negative is that the world design is rather bland. Random locations are very similar: they are all just collections of floating islands, occasionally with ruins on them. The only reason to visit them is to mine ore or collect recipes from the ruins: you won’t be visiting a new location wondering what you might find there. And it doesn’t help that you spend much of the game travelling through these similar locations, typically having to travel through over 10 locations to get from one quest location to another.

Also, unfortunately, there are a lot of bugs and glitches. Officially Windforge isn’t in Early Access, but it certainly feels like it is – with exception that the work on it has stopped. Most notable is that blocks can glitch through each other during collision, like when airship falls atop another, or to the ground, making it hard to dismantle fallen airship. Physical model is also glitches sometimes, making an airship or whale’s body suddenly fly up or sideward, or bounce on spot. And game’s save/load system also has a number of bugs and exploits, like player’s ability to replenish breathing air by saving and then loading game, or how freshly killed enemies revive after loading (with minimal HP, that allows easy double kill), though these can mostly be avoided by the player.

But overall, I’d say that Windforge is quite an interesting game, despite its bugs and other shortcomings. If you are looking for more combat/adventure-orientated take on Terraria/Starbound, you may give Windforge a try.

I would recommend this game to anyone who has even a passing interest in airahips and skywhales, however do not purchase this if you are expecting a complete game they dropped development in 2015 after adding a data extractor.
Despite its abandonment it is still a fun game overall but just know that you will not recieve any form of customer support if you consider trying.

Great story, although the game itself needs work. I could see this working in a big multiplayer setting, but your always alone

AwesomeSauce55

I really enjoy this game alot, all it needs is more content and I do wish when you kill a whale it whould float since it has all of the blubber, once you would mine up a little too much blubber and if you dont have anything attached to help keep it afloat, it would fall down. I also wish that there was more indepth tutorials, becuase it just tells you how to craft 2 things in the tutorial and how to control and repair your ship and a few of the basics but other than that it just throws you out there and says GL. I also wish there was a multiplayer so I could play online. But other than that it's a completly awesome game, I highly recommend getting it. ;D

I'll give an honest review soon as I actually play the game. I got too interested trying to see if I could get the backers bonus to work for me =) Then, dunno, I sort of got a bit morbid and first thing I did was see what happens when you jump off the building to the whatever it is you land on, or should I say splat?

Yes, yes, look at my playtime. Barely got anything down but please just hear me out and take my words for what they are ok? I am one of those people that can share their opinion about a game even after only having played it for mere minutes, after I got what I needd for my decision in the first place.

So what can I say about this game? Is it a good game? Eeeeeh its a solid 50/50. Its good and its bad. Its ok to put it into a better light. Because the thing is, the game does show a whole lot of potential from the first minutes. Which it spends on giving you a sadly half assed tutorial. Why halfassed?

I had spent 2 minutes figuring out where to go in that temple, until I realised that there was a hatch on the ceiling. That temple was in the tutorial mission. But ok, lets put that onto the nitpick list and lets go in with what really bothered me.

The artstyle is really nice. Unless when its not. The background art looks really really nice. The character art however does not. speciallywhen you zoom in. And zoom in you must if you actually want to know of how things actually look like properly because if you go with default, it really just looks like a mess of colours. Now while the background art is nice, the blockart couldnt be any worse than the characterart. It looks unnatural. Each block showing that it is an individual block. This wouldnt be too much of an issue if we didnt have this 2,5D going on. 3D but not 3D basically. And when looking at the rest of the game, the artstyle for building blocks doesnt even fit the rest of the game. I mean, look at the screenshots. Its like as if you put a HD Texture pack into Minecraft and a new block comes out that is still in retro style. Its kind of out of place.

Next is the exploration and movement. Overall not bad. But very, very confusing. Not to mention how the game reveals areas. It just looks so unnatural. It doesnt blend in. It just does "pop" and says "here I am". Its not enjoyable to look at, at all. And of course lookat the structures. Its like if Minecraft had a 5 year old as a mapmaker who just picked up the game and never made a map in the first place. And my best example, while having experienced it on my own in the few minutes I had, is still the screenshots on their own. Especially the second to last. And when we come to moving around, oh boy, it couldnt be any worse than what exploration does already. You know the controls. Its basically every sidescroller. But you just get stuck on every little block that is there. Wanna jump up with one pixel below a block? Pah, nope. Not possible. Yes thats a nitpicky example but its a good one for this point an I am sure that ya all can figure out the rest.

Not to speak of Combat now. Its... bad. Its like if Terrarias combat system was 5 times worse than it is. Slow weapons, floaty enemies at most if they are flying. I mean, you end up missing the enemy flying near you if you dont preaim carefully in the first place, while you move around and jump around as floaty as they do.

I cant talk much about airbattle. Didnt get there, wont even dare to touch it because of that. But as I can judge from the screenshots alone, it doesnt look too exciting. And then of course the whale stuff. Which doesnt look too nice either. More from a "I personally dont like how this looks" over a "Yea I think this is bad for the game" issue.

Anyhow, these are my badly worded thoughts on the game.

And please, dont come at me to tell me that I need a specific amount of time of having played the game. I played enough to form my opinion. I played enough sidescrollers to know what works better for a game such as this. Doesnt have to be retro, but it has to fit.

It is exactly as advertised. A side scrolling steam world in the clouds where you build/upgrade your ship with the parts you buy/build/steal from the people you meet/meat/mete. The depth of towns/shops/upgrades are moderate to shallow, and it felt a little tiny pinprick bit of old 8bit sidescroller. I believe with more money/time, the sequel to a game like this could be very deep and have an even longer/deeper storyline and building system and parts list. I love games where every part you put on your vehicle may make or break your day.

urman.gamer
urman.gamer

This game is okay. Not perfect, but fun in doses.

I like the original setting and the tie-in of a story to a block-building game. The item stash system, which allows basically unlimited hording accessible through one storage box, is very handy. The eat-to-heal system is a decent way to implement the need to gather and craft foodstuffs (although you can just buy them in towns).

And this is the first game I ever played where I was able to flense a whale. (Or use 'flense' in a review).

I have mixed feelings about the graphics. The oblique tiles (extending right and down) can frequently hide the tiles below or to the right, and this can sometimes make building ships or structures a little irritating. Given the steampunkish setting, I think the unusual tile format sort of fits; simple flat tiles likely wouldn't have the same feel. But I don't particularly like working with the tiles.

The other problem I have with the graphics is that the view is too far out; the character is tiny. But in the late game, the character can seriously move across the space, and I can see the need for the wide viewd area away from the character.

So I don't love some of the decisions the developer made, but the game probably required some of those trade-offs.

Pat_Magroin089
Pat_Magroin089

Yikes...
The videos made it look fun, and I admit, the gameplay was fun for what little time I played.
However, it is still very buggy and horribly optimized. I think I read the last update was in 2015? And by the feel of it, I'm frankly surprised that it still doesn't have the Early Access tag on it. Probably in a cash grab attempt if I were to guess.
I'd give it a 3/10. I'll likely come back to it when I'm desperate for entertainment, smashed, or want to show my friends some of the less fun games in my library.
Don't bother unless you're desperate and there's a huge sale on this game.

Notgeiler Norweger

This game had such great potential it pains me to give it a no ...

I couldn't remember what I was up to the last time I played it, so I fired her up and loaded the savegame "Meatboy". I was in the process of building an airship out of Kraken Shells, meat and blubber. Basically, two Firestone engines surrounded by blocks made of meat would power the ship akin to a heart, with strands of meat background blocks randomly reaching out towards the outer shell like arteries. They were surrounded by blubber background blocks for some additional buoyancy and the outer skin of the ship was made of the shell blocks of Krakens.

You can literally hunt Krakens and flying whales to go on and build a ship out of their carcasses to fly around with in a steampunk world on your quest to unravel the secrets of the Aetherkin ... so why do I give it a no?

First of all, I had to change the resolution from 1920x1080 in fullscreen to a windowed 1462x841 in order to be able to view the entire screen. Changing the resolution and switching between windowed and fullscreen are the only options you have in terms of graphics, btw, and even with this ... "unusual" setup I can't see the full name of the gear I have equipped and the tool tip of the first two is cut off at the top.

Secondly, there are no voice overs whatsoever. Back when I played Windforge for the first time, I looked at the first picture of the story for a minute or two, thought the game had crashed, double clicked and promptly skipped a scene. I have the achievements for completing every quest of Windhelm and Lars, but I couldn't tell you who the hell either are for the life of me. I think there also was a lady who helped you in the beginning of the game, but you don't form any kind of connection to anyone and you couldn't tell them apart from any other NPC.

Thirdly, all of my stats are maxed out. I haven't level up per se, but instead I have simply looked for trainers who could lvl a respective stat to 100. I didn't gain the money for this lackluster lvl up system by crafting items out of rare materials or selling expensive stuff I found while exploring the world or anything (I stripped ships before finding out about this tho), instead I just kept every stone block I got during mining, crafted 20 background stone blocks for every stone block I had and then I sold those background stone blocks at a price of 1$ per piece. The trading system is basically nonexistent and the only thing you'll buy anyways are recipes and a few raw resources - there is no need whatsoever to buy any placeable buildings from a trader because you can craft "mastercraft" quality stuff yourself and they don't have anything made out of the endgame materials anyways.

The fourth point is the AI, which is simply atrocious. Iirc there are four factions of which you can meet ships - the SOC as the bad guys, a corp who sells whale oil (neutral), bandits (hostile ofc) and some random other guys (probably "the normal people" or something). Iirc the SOC will attack anyone on sight, the bandits will attack everyone on sight, too and the whalers and neutral guys will only attack the SOC and the bandits on sight. "On sight" might be the wrong word however since they will attack "on spawning". I've had it happen to me that I was looking for Titanium in the top layers of the world and suddenly, the icon for a ship approaching popped up and shots rang out. I jumped back to my ship and the shots stopped as the icon began to fade. What happened in that moment was that a hostile ship spawned below me, just straight up started firing into my direction although there was an entire mountain between us, and then they despawned after a few seconds because the distance was too great.

This "FIRE AT WILL!!" mentality of the AI doesn't just apply towards shooting at you although there are obstacles blocking the LOS, it also applies towards firing at ships of a hostile faction, no matter if there's even anyone alive anymore. I've had it happen to me that I was in the process of taking apart a SOC ship I had killed the crew of, only to be bombarded by a whaler ship because this crewless carcass of a ship was still counting as a SOC ship that was hostile towards the whaler.

However I was free to curse like a sailor, hop into my ship and blow the whaler out of the sky because none of your actions have any repercussions whatsoever. Heck, you could even shoot down every single ship you see and it wouldn't matter.

Last but not least, Windforge has been abandoned by the devs who have given the players the tools for "deep modding". It's a steampunk game with a wonderful idea, OK graphics, nonexistent immersion in terms of story or characters, nonexistent faction interaction and shitty AI. This game could have been so much more than it turned out to be so even if you just want to experience it for yourself, don't buy it unless its on sale.

I bought this game a couple years ago but was unable to play due to driver issues. Finally got a new computer and was so excited to try it out. The steampunk genre is so fun in games and movies.

The ability to design your own ship and the technologies to do it with are amazing. Stealing other ships either for parts or to add to your available choices is cool. The storyline, that I am mostly ignoring for random exploration, seems ok so far.

The game freezes... often - I have to kill the process and restart it. Thankfully, it autosaves every time you change zones. A 2hr play session may include up to 5 or more restarts at which point I give up for the day.

If the game works, it's pretty fun to swing around a map with the grappling hook or try to take down a basilisk with steel grinders (that doesn't generally end well for me) but the freezing bug is nearly unbearable when it happens in what appear to be completely unrelated circumstances. If grappling a creature caused a freeze, I would simply stop doing that but the game may freeze when I do that, or it might not. I could be shooting one of the human enemies and it will freeze. I could be opening a door, checking my inventory, buying new gear, or flying my ship.

I cannot recommend this game. I will say that if you buy it, you may enjoy what you can do or you will wish Steam had a more forgiving return policy than 2hrs/14days.

You know that feeling when a amazing game you got drawn into on early access on quality of game play alone gets "finished" because of massive backlash due to the creator moving on to a new title. Yeah, can't give an honest recommendation but it's fun and challenging in a unique way, definitely worth it on the right sale. Had so much fun in early access but my soul died a little when I finished the main quest line.

JonCon

This is one of those games I keep coming back to and trying to play through, but there's something about it that just turns me off about it continuously. My closest approximation of it is, well, most things.

Starting with the problems of this game is front and center, the view. Why is it slightly angled? What purpose does that serve besides throwing off y block and building placements? Hell, the whole building system is wonky as all hell, there's just no fun in it. This is worsened by the combat. Person-to-person is passable, REALLY fast paced, but ship-to-ship is painful, your ship just melts under the slightest fire, and this is without mentioning the fire system. The result of this is frantically repairing your ship as it's being shot down by Joe Bloes in a box! The only weapon worth using in my opinion is the shotgun, it has allowed me to enter areas far higher leveled than me because it spits out enough pellets to block out the sun. There's a grappling system, which has saved my bacon countless times, but you HAVE to use it to go anywhere, and your character's movement is so fast and floaty you'll use it mostly to save yourself from yourself.

The visuals are quite nice at times, but on the whole it is entirely bland pastels with no life behind them. The story is essentially going back and forth between towns and dungeons, and fighting the occasional giant enemy (which you can build airships with their carcasses (which is morbidly amusing). The music is immediately forgettable, and there's no life in it.

In short, I did not like this game at all and I cannot recommend it. I really wanted to like this game and it shows from my 11 hours, it feels like a chore, plain and simple, and that is a shame.

DaiReith

This one is disappointing. It's clearly unfinished and abandoned, which is a shame because the setting is unique and, if completed, it would have been one of the more unique games of the type. It's playable, but there are bugs, glitches and many things could have been improved: menus, ship combat, building.....Get it if you have nothing else to play and see it with a steep discount.

A pretty awesome game if you're into things like terrerria but with a plotline and Airships
Them I'd say enjoy.

If you don't like platformers then honestly don't

I'll also say the controls can be a little clunky and ship build takes some getting used to, but all in all
I found myself and my friends whom play this have had a lot of fun.

Shame it's not multiplayer though.

patomanofallcolors

Really good game, and the retro graphics are both a draw. Haven't encountered errors but a pet peve is that after making a huge ship I can't reprocess it all back into blocks to remake, and deconstructing one block at a time takes a long time on own ship and lags game up (same with adding).

Hit for easy mode for mats/money, go grinder on islands.

No new patches in sight, is a compleated game, would be amazing to have a sequal that is 3d like 7 days to die or ark.

Overall, pretty cool idea. Destructable environments, lots of crafting options, and super-cool flying airships. Only takes an hour or so to have a basic airship up and hunting, and the combat is a really fun idea. However, the game is rough, so rough that I'll call it 'unfinished.' Movement is awkward and annoying, and leads to missteps, character deaths, and airship crashes that force you to rebuild. Crafting/building is slow and awkward, not intuitive and clean like a Terraria or Minecraft feels. Overall, it was an interesting concept with enormous potential implemented poorly and never refined.

By comparison, I preferred the Starbound beta. Years later, where Starbound has a coat of polish on it, it's no contest.

2/10 wasn't flying well, so I wouldn't fly it again.

I bought this game while it was still being updated, when it still had a future I f*cking loved this game, but the problems it had were never fixed. I was pre much a kid finding out the net when this came out, y'know buying into games that were absolute crap, I mean I chose Salt over project zomboid for gods sake, but this was and still is a fun game, it has character hard seen at any point in the industry, really odd and innovative ideas too. but the producers abandoned and it just didnt frankly pick up enough of a community to fix it. so as much as I love this game I cant recommend it.

Awesome game, well worth the price. Will keep you busy for a while if you do it right, lol. Shame its abandoned though...

There are way too few steampunk games out there to give this one a negative review. With Deepworld and Remnants of Skystone gone, and Arcanum just about impossible to run a server for these days, this is what's left. It would be nice to see some sort of multiplayer implementation.

The creativity put into this game is great. The world is interesting and engaging. The only problem I have with the game is the controls and gameplay can be clunky. The dungeons and towns are very well made, and are host to a lot of interesting npcs. I feel like I couldn't get into the game though, simply because it's not my cup of tea. The game is still host to a lot of interesting things and I highly recommend more patient gamers to explore this game in full.

Price point: $9.99
I have over 150 hours in. Considering that is more than 10x the cost of the game, it easily checks out in price many times over. And I did get plenty of fun out of it.

[Price- 10/10]

Age group
Hard to say. I can’t recall anything prohibitive. Violence, no gore, nudity or vulgarity that I can recall. Probably safe for most ages, though certain systems might make it difficult for younger players.

[Ages: May be difficult for young.]

Difficulty
It is what you make it. Difficulty can vary wildly depending on how you approach a situation. Finding the broken bits that make a difficult task buttery smooth can be extremely gratifying. Struggling to do something by doing it the wrong way can be rage-inducing.

[Difficulty- 5/10]

Graphics
The isometric system does not work for building or mining. It can be overcome, but that’s exactly the problem… you have to overcome it, not enjoy it from the start. The worst part is that the system is clearly already tile based. So why not stick with it? I am amused by the paper-doll-like characters, though they move like wooden mannequins.

[Graphics: 2/10]

Systems
I genuinely like the crafting and character progression systems. I like finding broken builds. This game allows for that. I love that I can build any kind of ship that will fly around the world. But… bugz.

[Systems- 7/10]

Stability
Stable but buggy. I only recall crashing maybe twice. I was doing some pretty insane nonsense each time such as erasing entire islands with a knife. I wasn’t cheating, I just had good materials, high Int and high Str. Knives are fun. The other time I was doing the same thing but with high level cannons under the same conditions.

[Stability- 5/10]

Polish
Virtually nonexistent.

[Polish- 1/10]

The good: Vast explorable steampunk world. You can build what amounts to mobile bases in a terraria- esque world. Has a story. Fun leveling system if you figure out the tasty busted bits.

The bad: Polish and balance.

The ugly: The isometric system. It interferes with everything.

Eran’s Ramble: I want so badly to give this game a good review. I have put more than a fair share of hours into it. It is genuinely a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it. Why? Abandonware. This game had so insanely much potential. It feels great to run around capturing enemy ships and retrofitting and scrapping them for goodies. The fact that you can build your own ships feels good, and moving around in them feels right. The story is tropey but passable. But the game has a rushed ending and was definitely never finished. The polish is bad. The isometric system is shoddy and restrictive. Development was coming along, things were going well and interest was growing when suddenly the devs provided an update to make modding easier and ghosted. I didn’t seem to have the issues with movement others complain about. I would play it again for certain.

TLDR: Game world with sky- high potential abandoned in favor of making cheap, money grubbing mobile games and backseating on AAA titles. Potentially worth it, but can’t recommend on principle.

It's an interesting game and can be pretty fun but I cannot recommend it because of all the problems it has. A lot of the systems don't work well and I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy it at this point. It has really cool systems and those could be really fun but they aren't executed well. It hasn't been updated in almost five years and it doesn't seem like it will at this point.

6.5/10 the game can be fun that is quite has the element what is fun. Don't care the good graphic but the flaw of it is the confusing what you drilling/mining into but it makes up the fun that you can steal enemy's ship and just break down their ship once you kill the pirates. Here and there another flaw issues is quite big problem, you can't choose pigment color of skin that part I was sad about it because it doesn't make sense why it have to be "pigment of white skin" and hopefully the game is not hinting of "racist thing but I am looking forward that the dev work on pigment skin color for the game.

Almost like skyrim but reducing graphic and what type weapons you have but more of looking at is terreria mix game. I hope you'll enjoy playing the game if you choose to play the game.

Sprayer2708
Sprayer2708

The game is technically finished. But it just lacks so much content. Every single screen in it seems to be randomly generated from the same limited tileset. I can't remember (or bother to check) how many screens the world map contains, but after you've seen 3 different ones, you've basically seen them all. The tech is differentiated into only 2 (maybe 3) distinct tiers, so no motivation to go look for "rare" tech.
Gameplay wise, the fighting both on foot and in a ship are unsatisfying. All you achieve by defeating enemy airships is removing them. You might also loot their building blocks but why bother, you already have 99999 of them. Same goes for the wildlife. Fun fact: if the sprite flips upside down (with no animation, its just suddenly belly-up) it means its dead.

Hey there, so this game was released like.. 6 years ago or so...

The issues are . . . sadly plentiful.
But lets start with positives! :D

#1 Ideas galore! I mean seriously! The idea of being able to swing from area to area with your grappling hook, awesome!
#2 creating your own airship to fly amongst flying islands. Fuuun!

That's really it though.

Flying your ship is rough at best

Combat is dull

Exploration is lack luster in terms of finding anything worth while.

Living on the back of a whale is kinda neat? But it's also sort of pointless.

I mean honestly this game would be solid in a minecraft style format, single player.. maybe be able to make a crew..? Stuff like that..

So, over all I mean, the game has good ideas, but that is REALLY it.

The game is full of bugs, the blocks are too small, and the controls can be a bit clunky. And yet despite this, windforge is one of the best games I have ever played.

God damn what a game. It's good, but there's too many bugs and poor design choices holding it back. The description is correct about "creative problem solving" alright, because while the game's community is very friendly, it's too small to be of any help when it comes to bug issues. This shouldn't be the community's duty though, because the developers should be more involved in helping players work through the many bugs in this game.
Windforge is good and I do reccomend it, but just isn't quite great.

I absolutely love this game. I like the completely destructible environments. I like the ability to quicksave in the middle of a fight to force the rng in my favor. I like that if I want, i can hang out near the very first town and max out my ship and a lot of my stats just by scavenging for resources in the islands nearby and/or stealing enemy ships and selling them for parts.

I love games where I can be level 30 levels ahead before I do the first mission and feel like I'm on top of the world.

I like how there are many boards out on the internet with passionate people like me that can tell me where important things are.

The reason why this game has mixed reviews, in my opinion, is not the game or the gameplay, but that it has a few bugs and the developer has decided to stop updating the game.

The biggest problem in my experience is that sometimes the game will crash when going from one zone/square/island to another. It seems to be at random, but when the only autosaves are changing of zones, you just spent half an hour grinding meteors for heartstone or whatever other resource, it is disheartening to see all that go to waste when you try to leave, the game crashes, and your last save is the autosave of you entering the area. It happened to me only every couple of hours and, on my first couple playthroughs, I never encountered the problem.

The second biggest problem is when I try to go to one of the end-game areas before I'm supposed to know about it... but that's more on me, I guess.

Can this problem mostly be solved by doing regular quicksaves? Yes. But it can still be annoying to know that you need to save before leaving somewhere when the game shouldn't force you to mistrust it.

I still do recommend this game because the problems I have found have only caused major problems when I haven't saved recently and I do very much enjoy his game. I don't know if the bugs will ever be fixed, but I do hope so.

If you're willing to save after major works and don't mind rebooting the game every couple of hours (or however long it is), get the game.

yeah, it feels and looks unfinished, it has the ammount of bugs it appears to have at 1st glance and your char moves a bit too fast on buttery platforms designed to hack at your health with fall dmg...

But for some reason I love and do not regret getting it on sale. Not for everyone but if you like terraria, steampunk airships and don't mind the lack of multiplayer, this game might not that bad an experience....

It has a lot of issues, the main tutorial doesn't fully explain all the mechanics, like how crafting recipes can change the gun depending on materials you use. But i adore this game, after the tutorial it lets you roam free to do whatever you want. Learning and manipulating the mechanics is where this game really comes through. Skirmishes are fun but there isn't the largest enemy ship variety. The building is optional, you can get through the entire game with the same ship, only needing to add appliances and new guns when you get them, but many of the materials you get later have special properties, adding a lot of enjoyment building a overpowered monster of a ship. Every year I always come back to this game, quirks and all. If the game looks interesting to you and you're ready to deal with some clunkiness then I'd say it's worth checking out. (also it doesn't matter if your computer is a beast, the game will slow down a bit no matter what if there's too much on a map, usually something like a temple.)

this game doesn't lack content
it lacks polish it could've been an amazing game but instead it is fairly mediocre
one of my favorite little shit shows but still mediocre
I wouldn't recommend you buy this if you're looking for a game with an active community
or updates for that matter this game has been long abandoned
still not a bad game just unpolished and mediocre compared to the potential it had

Game where you build airships, fight thins in a blocky world.
Story ain't grate but that's not what I bought this for.
Ship battles are really fun, wish I didn't get randomly launched or killed though.

Windforge is playable and have definite ending (that i got after 50h of wrecking chaos), so it's finished (not abandoned). It's a nice enough game that one can replay every few years (to feed one's nostalgic feels for it). Temples do lag a'lot though.

honestly, a pretty fun game, the building angle is odd, but i found the movement and grappling to be very fun, combat is average, nothing to write about, but not the worst ever, the story is pretty interesting, and the freedom is cool, wish this game could've been updated more, or change to just a 2d style building and breaking, flying around felt fine, i feel like this game could've been so much better, i still play it from time to time though.

I swear I really tried to play and enjoy this, but I've found it to be impossible.
The concept of the game is good but it gets dragged down by many things:

- Firstly the graphics. While there are some nice models such as those of whales, big creatures and structures, the 2.5D view of the game not only makes it look bad, but it alsomakes building, moving and mining much more difficult and confusing. The menus are alsovery ugly and it's not intuitive enough.
- In second place we have the movement. The movement in this game is simpy awful, you go way to fast, it feels as if your feet are made of butter and the grappling hook while a bit helpful is not enough to overpower this. Such bad mobility combined with the awful 2.5D graphics makes moving arround a nightmare.
- Lastly the game isn't nearly as user friendly as it should be, it is very confusing and doesn't make a good job trying to make you learn how to play. The menus are confusing, interacting with stuff is horrible and it gives you way too much information all at once without proper explanation or time to get used to it.

I really really wanted this game to be good but it just isn't, it's in fact very very bad and frustrating.
