I just finished streaming a play through of this game and while I did have some fun with it I can not recommend it.

It is the least X-COM X-COM game and that is OK. If we ignore that it is a sometimes frustrating but over all enjoyable little shooter you will most likely get through in an afternoon.

I had technical issues with the camera but hitting the guides on steam I was able to find what in the INI needed to be changed to get the game in a more playable state.
I kinda hate most of the voice acting in the game, there is not a lot but you will quickly get tired of the scientists voice lines.
Some of the weapons really struggle to justify the points you put into unlocking them and I found myself regretting unlocking some of them as it just widens the pool for random weapon spawns often leaving you running in circles waiting for something better or just getting dunked on by the RNG.

There were levels I enjoyed and some I hated (There are 2 guard an objective style levels and I hate both of them) Most of the boss fights are bland and the difficulty will come more from the smaller spawns and how tanky the bosses are. Circle strafe your way to victory. there are bonus levels you can go to by collecting the letters B-O-N-U-S while your running around, there seem to be 4 or 5 that it randomly selects from so you will see the same bonus levels more than once if you do go out of your way to collect the letters.

I enjoyed my time with it, it was a dumb time killer. It is not really a good game, but it is not a disaster. It just doesn't do anything that makes it stand out, there is nothing about it that is exciting or interesting enough to want to have others experience it with you it is just a game. It exists if you own it or got it in a collection sure give it a spin but should you buy it? no prolly not unless you need to fill out your collection or you just have a thing for this type of game, if you have to buy it then catch a sale you can wait.

First, lets be quite honest here: You aren't buying this game just because you want it, you are buying it because it comes part of the bundle of old X-COM games.

X-COM Enforcer, it's... it's just bad. It was even bad when it originally came out. 3rd person shooter what feels like its designed for purely keyboard use with any mouse support put in as an afterthought. Camera movement is only left or right, moving up or down is out of the question, even though you can aim up or down... camera just does not follow said aiming.

If you actually want this game... i'm sorry. I really am.

Buy the complete pack in order to acquire this game. This game has a special spot in my heart, otherwise I wouldn't be able to recommend it. It's a generic FPS that's crisp and clean on the graphics front but just ... image Serious Sam with 2000's graphics, X-Com enemies (loosely), and enough lispy scientist yelling in your ears to last you a life time. If that's your bag, this game is for you. Go Enforcer!!!

Seriously though I only recommend this game to people who buy the Complete Pack and like Serious Sam style FPS's AND X-Com.

Night
Night

Viewed purely as a run-and-gun shooter, Enforcer is fun despite itself, a neat little timewaster.

Viewed purely as an X-COM game, Enforcer is like meeting the Antichrist.

Unless you're seriously into obscure Microprose/X-COM history, you're more likely to care about the second sentence and not the first.

I'm giving a thumbs up to this as an old school blast fest, but sadly I will never finish it as the fixed view and POV gives me a migraine in under 30 minutes. As a big fan of the entire X-Com series I may be biased but this si a fun romp for time.

Disregard the fact that this game is related to the X-com series, and remember that it only costs a few dollars!!

With that it mind, this game is so much fun! If you ever get tired of meticulous strategy and just want and endless romp, this is the game for you!! Honestly a ton of fun!!

(Also, disable dynamic lighting. Otherwise your frame rate will drop to almost 0.)

Definitely worth the dollar I paid for it.

Apart from the title absolutely nothing to do with the brilliant turn-based strategy games. Piss poor FPS. Avoid like plague. Gladly I got this as a part of a deal with all the older X-Com games for 2.99€, so I don't need to shoot anyone.

Only for the completist.

Groza

The real appeal of Enforcer is it's awkward place in the X-COM setting. The game sometimes has some Serious Sam-style moments where the fun shines through as you're using speed boosts and jump jets to dart around the map, using the absurd weapons to gun down hordes of aliens. Unfortunately these moments aren't all that frequent. Some of the voice acting is entertaining in a fun-to-cringe-at way. Overall, you can skip this one unless you're an X-COM fanatic.

Not a bad little shooter (if quite outdated), but it's buggy as all get out on Windows 10 with an Nvidia GeForce card. ***

Few people remember that the unfortunate X-Com spin-off, The Bureau, wasn't the franchise's first FPS; that honor belonged to Enforcer. Released in 2001, Enforcer was an even more ungainly fit to the franchise, being little more than an action-shooter that owed almost no similarity to the earlier titles of the series. But ignoring its unfortunate connections with the earlier games, the game was surprisingly fun.

Enforcer utilized the Unreal engine and - remembering this game is now 16 years old - quite good looking. It lacked any spectacular set-pieces - featuring instead rather humdrum locations such as trailer parks and city streets - but provided a good amount of detail and variety. I particularly enjoyed the number of things - cars, propane tanks, signs, garbage cans, doors, windows - that I could blow up with my guns. Even more impressive was the sheer number of enemies available to kill. While most games of its day struggled with five or six enemies on-screen at once, Enforcer managed twenty to thirty at a time, and by the time I reached the end of a level I usually had slaughtered my way through four or five HUNDRED of the villains. In many ways, the game was more akin to modern "horde shooters" than the scripted adventures of its contemporaries. Similar to horde shooters, killing enemies earned you resources ("research points") with which to upgrade weapons and abilities. While this encouraged "grind", I didn't mind that much; the weapons were suitably overpowered and a well-placed shotgun blast could take out five or six enemies at a time. (The AI wasn't too deadly on its own, but their numbers could quickly whittle down my health if I wasn't careful).

The game's biggest flaw - aside from its XCom lineage - was that it was played in third-person, and it had lousy targeting and camera control. The latter was even more problematic when it came to the occasional jumping puzzle or navigating narrow ledges. It also was uneven in tone, never quite sure if it was an action-adventure, a horror game or a tongue-in-cheek poke at the whole UFO genre.

Still, as a quick pick-me-up shooter it was enjoyable, if simplistic, fun. I can recommend it to anyone under the caveat you ignore its unfortunate connection the other games of the franchise and go into it with the understanding this is a cheap shoot-em-up focused more on racking up huge kill-counts than offering sophisticated gameplay or world-building.

A reasonable FPS. Nothing to do with XCom. meh? Its clunky. The target seems to want to point off the top of the screen a lot. The game doesnt always tell you want it wants. For example: to save the humans, you walk into them, not defend them. Overall, not a bad romp.

StormRangerX
StormRangerX

Absolute garbage, never play this game. At best it's a half-decent arcade run'n'gun, has no plot whatsoever, and since I wanted to just blow through the game in a few hours I picked the lowest difficulty and because of that the final level was locked from me unless I played through the whole game again on a higher difficulty. Fuck this game.

Loosely tying into the XCOM universe, you are a lone enforcer killing waves of aliens.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=204656371
As credible as Gerard Butler saving the Whitehouse, this 'XCOM has Fallen' romp throws logic and canon out the window to allow you in a straight-up mecha-brawl with hordes of aliens. It is 'XCOM' meets 'State of Emergency' with frenetic levels, you in your mecha-armor and the aliens to destroy. Brainless fun.

Summary

Ok, it's not high-art, but also not terrible either; it is a cash in on a beloved franchise - but its so ridiculous as to be a real hoot....

Pros:
- it is a terrific romp of a shooter
- its just plain fun

Cons:
- the XCOM name really kills it, some idiots come along and only play it for 5 minutes - the fools, they shoudl play for at leat 10 minutes...
- the graphics are probably good: had all sorts of mouse and framerate issues so was forced to play in safe mode - but still 'hella good', as I believe the urchins are want to say.

I do want to state that I actually very much enjoy this game. It's nothing groundbreaking, rather mindless, but it's a blast to just tear through alien hordes with fast-paced movement.

But the Steam version doesn't quite work right compared to the smoothness of the CD version. So for that, I wouldn't recommend people get this.

Classic alien 3rd-person shooter with a wide variety of weapons and power-ups that pop-up during the missions. I would like to see a remake of this game since the x-com games have made a great come-back. If so, I hope the story is made more compelling.

This game is an example of what happens when you let Hasbro get a hold of an established and popular game franchise.

It's terrible. It's link to the old XCOM games is lip service only, and the gameplay and graphics were bad even back when this was released. Really I only own it because it came with the bundle of old school XCOM games I actually wanted and it was cheaper to get the bundle than buy everything EXCEPT for this title.

If you got it in a bundle deal... congrats on being able to enjoy the other games. Don't bother installing this one unless you want to make ironic YouTube videos or have people watch your reactions on Twitch. If you are thinking of getting this single title... walk away. Just walk away and pretend this never existed. You will be glad to keep the $5.

This game is dumb as all hell and the camera angle sucks beyond all measure and your scientist sidekick has shockingly appalling voice acting and the game is an affront to the general spirit of the XCom series.

But it's also a game where you run around at high-speed with weapons respawning all around you every five seconds whilst you shoot hundreds of idiot aliens with a flamethrower and I'm ok with that so in summary IT OWNS.

Comparing with other games in the same era, the graphic is fair enough. However, the rest is terrible. Bad story. Bad concept. Bad action. Bad battle excitement. This is the worst game in the X-COM franchise.

Pretty good graphics for its time, however I had fun up until the mission Block Rockin it felt rigged they spam you with aliens and the weapon speeds arent fast enough to kill the aliens especially the blade shooter that is annoying during that mission when your protecting humans. Hoverboat Havoc haunts my childhood.

- Many levels too dark to see anything
- Very buggy, often in a game breaking way.
- Complete lack of story, missions almost entirely unrelated.
- Subpar level design
- Often difficult to figure out where you're supposed to go even with a flashing blue arrow pointing the way.
- Each level is pretty much the same thing; Collect humans and/or destroy alien teleporters. Gets old REAL fast.

If you happen to own this game, do yourself a favor and never unlock the freeze gun. Trust me.

Overall, not the worst game I've ever played, but it's pretty far down there. 3/10.

x-com: enforcer is the 6th game in the x-com series, and came out in 2001. it was the last game released in the x-com series until the reboot in 2012. this was the first x-com game to abandon the strategy elements and fully embraced a third person shooter with primarily action gameplay. this game is very mediocre especially when compared to the previous installments in the series. however, it is a decent change of pace and the backstory of the development of this game suggests they rushed to make something after numerous new x-com games had been cancelled and they needed to make something quickly with the x-com brand. overall, this is a decent action game that really has nothing to do with any of the original x-com tactical strategy games.

General Thoughts/Overview:

I’d heard this game was bad, but hot damn… it actively detracts from the value of the Xcom bundle.
A terrible, terrible shooter, Xcom Enforcer is quite possibly the first game I couldn’t continue to play out of sheer disgust at its awfulness… and I managed to finish deus ex: the fall.
This is an xcom themed run and gun, earn points to buy upgrades, to make you better at murdering the mass hordes.
If there is a story, I didn’t find it.

Pros:

    • Easy and mindless.
    • It was nice to see some of the iconic xcom defence maps from a shooter pov.
    • The game is super easy to pick up and learn. There is literally no thinking at all.

Cons:

    • The game is laggy and jarring and jumps around awfully.
    • The voice acting is just painful to listen to. The whiney wheezey sounding scientist makes me hope there is a twist at the end where it turns out youre actually the alien and its some twisted experiment where a human brain has been murdering xcom agents and abducting people instead. but I doubt it’ll be anything as interesting or deep as that.
    • The controls are awful, with no real ability to look around
    • There is literally no connection to the xcom franchise at all. Nothing beyond skin. It’s nothing at all like any of the other games in any regard.

Suggested improvements:

    • Optimise and smooth the game so it actually runs.
    • Connect a tactical play element to the game.
    • Tweak the difficulty settings to reflect difficulty.

Overall Recommendation:
Overall I recommend you ignore this. I played it for almost an hour and a half and it’s just bad. It isn’t even a good run and gun or arena shooter, which it was intended to be.
As I said at the start, this game actively decreases the value of the xcom bundle, this is so bad it isn’t even worth the 2 minutes of install to try out.

I borderline recommend this game. I bought and played X-COM: Enforcer way after the games release as a used title and way before the term release and I only did that to see one thing. Only to see how the game was built in the Unreal Engine. The game is a mish-mash of new ideas put together that has nothing to do with the idea that you have characters and putting them in the field and feeling that emotion of losing a few soliders as you complete the game. It's nothing to do with that. Not even close to Interceptor when that got released. The game takes control of a robot who goes into the field killing aliens in an extremely linear fashion. Blame the Unreal Engine for that? No. The game let the Unreal Engine win. Maybe for them, it was a good idea to make another X-COM game where it wasn't just a turn based tactical game, again like Interceptor, but it feels like a completely different game. The game is made well however, the levels are great and the weapons work. Also the game doesn't allow the players to progress towards the ending in Easy mode, so it makes playing the tougher modes worth while. It's an odd game for X-COM series that plays well. That's the way I see it. I bought this game with the X-COM pack, so I didn't have much to play the Steam version of the game and there's not much of a change anyways.

A very weak entry into the classic Xcom universe. Also the last one until the 2012 reboot.

With that said the game is not awful - just very repetitive. It is a third person shooter, where basically you need to clear each level of all aliens and their generators from the level. Some times you need to rescue humans. And that is basically it. You also collect points from these activities which you can use to upgrade your enforcer. Graphics do show their age, but the animations of your main character are at least decent.

Weapons and shooting are very basic, and you can only use one gun at a time. This would not be a problem but with how fast weapon pickups drop you will never get to really use any weapon for more than a few shots at a time.

On the upside the action is fast, there is plenty of AI on screen to shoot. So really this is more of a time filler than the epic strategy of the previous xcom games. But at least there are quite a few levels to the game.

I would only recommend buying the whole XCOM pack, so you could see this game as a bonus stocking filler, and I would not buy Enforcer as a stand alone game in all honesty.

This is the most hated X-COM game ever (I don't know exactly why, I'm not up to speed with 20 year old gamer drama), but it's really not that bad.  It's just mostly fun mindless arcade style action.

I paid less than one dollar for this game and I would say it was an appropriate amount of money for it, don't pay more than that. Now I need to play The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (preferably for less than a dollar too), maybe it's not that bad either.

PROTIPS:

- I tried to use a custom .exe the last time I tried to play this and it was a lot buggier than just playing vanilla, so for 1080p I would advise you to change the resolution in-game to 720p (it might be needed to set it as widescreen) and  just go to XCom.ini and change the resolution to 1920x1080, it worked fine for me. The fov can be a little claustrophobic playing in widescreen, especially because some genius at the now defunct MicroProse decided to lock the camera vertically, but it's definitely playable.

- Disable dodging, it will make everything better (especially in the boat stage) and don't even try to activate mouse look.

- WARNING: don't activate the freeze gun! It's just a waste of resources points and will constantly get you trapped and killed more times than it will kill the aliens.

Okay to anyone who has played the entire XCOM franchise or has not heard of it I suggest playing the very first XCOM game that ever came out on PC then try future installments as you try out each one. XCOM: Enforcer is very unique in the franchise it's a third person shooter as you play a robot called an Enforcer. As I played it all the way through on my channel. This game uses the Unreal 1 engine which is also used in Unreal Gold. So try out Unreal Gold to see it in action or Unreal Tournament 1. Thank you for reading.

Pretty bad cash grab on the X-com name...
I thought I'd give it a try and judge it on it's own, ignoring it is X-com game.
It still kind of sucks.

+ I kind of like the combat, it's meh. Also levels are full of secrets.

- It is a 3rd person shooter. You can carry only one weapon at a time and game keeps spawning dozens of weapons everywhere and you pick them up automatically, so if you get a better gun, you will probably lose it after a few seconds by accidently picking another one.
- Also camera sucks. it is pointed in between front view and down. So you can barely see what's in front of you. You can't rotate camera in any way.
- Earraping voice acting.
- Shooting has aiming function, but it makes it harder to hit other than not aiming at all as it shoots in the middle by default.
- Cutscene skipping, you press f to make them run faster. Can't skip them instantly.
- Some secrets are hard to get to, because of crappy movement system, if it's down the mountain behind an edge you may fall over it by falling off edge to try to land on it.
- If you choose to play on easy you will not be able to play the last few levels. No warning in-game, so it's abysmal design. I found it out randomly in the internet by looking how many levels the game has.
- When you beat the level's objective you can either go through teleporter or after 30 seconds game will automatically teleport you. So basicly you can't search for secrets after beating the level objectives.

I mean I played only 2 levels through, but there are already that many horrible design choices for pretty much everything. If I went through the whole game I would've probably found much much much more crap.

No, it's not really an X-Com game, but YES it is bloody good fun! Plenty of dumb alien-blasting action and an awesome variety of guns. If you enjoy games such as Earth Defence Force you might just be able to forgive the goofy voice acting enough to have a blast with this. High value-for-money to fun ratio if you're not looking for a deep cinematic experience.

While it's not really like any other xcom game, on its own merits this is a merrily mindless shooter, easy to lose ten minutes to blasting your way through a level filled with alien griblies, grabbing powerups and scouring the level for XP and secrets to boost your enforcer robot for the next mission. Simple cheesy fun.

I used to play this game when i was like 7 or 8 years old. I remember being really addicted to it but it really hasn't aged very well. I'm now 23 years old and I can only play it because I'm somewhat familiar with it but if I was a new modern day player then I'd probably feel like I wasted my money on this game. In other words I don't find it as fun anymore.

[XRC] [CG] The Undecided Gamer
[XRC] [CG] The…

Do you like fighting hordes and hordes of enemies and don't care if they're brain dead punching bags?

Do you like running faster than a lightning bolt thrown by Zeus himself?

Are you able to deal with the same combat barks and an annoying scientist who even Jesus would want to dunk a few times in the toilet?

Can you deal with so many enemies that even modern computers will slow down as the game hopelessly tries to defeat you while all alien life within a 50 mile radius is ended with a energy shuriken launcher, a railgun that leaves finger print looking decals, a psi cannon that is essentially a rocket launcher but very, VERY green, and other overpowered weapons that make the game a cakewalk no matter what difficulty you're on?

If all of this is stuff you enjoy or can deal with, then this game will probably give you a few hours of entertainment.
It's ugly, it's janky, and once I killed so many things at the same time that the game crashed out of what I presume a heart attack at the amount of death I dealt.
However, it can appeal to those who are able to appreciate a game that's certainly bad, but also bad in a way that's still fun and playable with the right mindset.
Just make sure you get this in the Xcom bundle whenever that goes on sale so you can pick up some good games that will last you longer after your popcorn adventure with Enforcer is over.

PS. The flamethrower is garbage until you level it up, the freeze gun is always garbage no matter what, and the instant you get access to the missile strike powerup just level that bad boy up and watch the glory unfold.

Funny how I remembered this differently. Well, the graphics is terrible, this I remember well. However, the controls are somewhat sluggish and unresponsive. Falls terribly short of the X-COM name. Simply put, its just not fun!

Severe performance issues prevented me from playing this game normally. The few instances where the game ran fine, the game showed its obvious age with aged graphics and gameplay (to be expected from an average early 2000s shooter).

If you expect something like old X-com games, then you definitely will be disappointed. But if you want some mindless action similar to Serious Sam, then you should give this game a chance.

This was basically a last minute cash grab by the bankrupting Hasbro Interactive and it shows. Its a shooter set in X-Com. It's worth booting up just to see how horrible it is, then go ahead and permanently delete it from your library.

You'd have more fun putting your balls in a pressure cooker.

Another game I would like to enjoy... but I don't. The game is jerky, the graphics are poor, the aiming is hardly useful for the purpose of shooting something. Sorry, Micropose... maybe it is just too old. (But that is my personal problem anyway.)

What a weird, wacky little arcade thing. I'm fairly sure I enjoyed this.

Generally X-COM: Enforcer is just not a good game and is a boring shooter with the X-COM name. If you are an X-COM fanatic then by all means, play the game and have a good time but I just found myself regretting the time I spent on it and ultimately stopped playing.

People with like 30 minutes playtime give this game a negative review, unable to understand what makes this game so good.

Keep playing, collect alien tech and research points, upgrade and become an unstoppable killermachine. This game is so fun, because it's a huge powertrip where only bosses slow you down a little.

I honestly enjoyed it a lot and would go as far as to call this "the best X-Com game I every played".

One of those few older games that, unfortunately, didn't age well. The gameplay is way too arcady and can be beaten in ~3 hours or less. It doesn't hold up as an X-COM title either since the story has barely anything to do with the overall plot.

This game broke no ground when it came out, and it won't 'wow' you now. If you're a fan of the X-Com franchise, and you're interested because this is a part of the series, move along. If you want a story-line, move along.

Now, having said all that, this game is really fun! It's mindless, it's fun, it's teeming with action. Don't come at this game with some sort of a pre-conception of what it's supposed to be. If you do that, you'll never enjoy it. If you want to shoot hoards of aliens with fun weapons, then this is for you. I like playing this game with a podcast on in the background. Super fun. Blasting aliens and finding powerups - there's really nothing else to say. If that's not enough for you, then don't get this.
