So good! It's a short game but will keep you wanting more! The movement mechanics are satisfying and fair, and when you get used to the movement you can pull off some pretty quick maneuvers.

I haven't even played 20 minutes and I love this. Really creative, colorful, and uses an interesting concept. The sounds and music are really great too. Can't go wrong for 5 bucks.

It took me a little while to get into this game due to the abstract graphics, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. The handful of different mechanics work together to create interesting challenges, and those abstract graphics undeniably are beautiful and evocative in their own unique way, not to speak of the dynamic sound&music design which is integrated deep into the experience.

Once again I’m absolutely floored by what Nifflas and others have managed to create. This game is a joy to look at and control and TO LISTEN TO, and every last inch of it has been carefully crafted and polished.

It’s short but very dense in terms of attention to detail. 100% worth getting at full price

Cool game. Would love to see more in a sequel or DLC, but still worth getting, even if it's a short game.

i love playing ynglet. the levels are all full of joy. i feel as though every step of the way i'm empowered to solve a weird bouncy problem in any clever way i like. that's not always true, of course. there's lots of places where i am solving a weird bouncy problem in basically the exact clever way i was supposed to. but there's so much freedom.

anyway this is my favourite style of level design and it feels rare to play a game made like this.

Revolutionary and fresh platform feel, with very little fluff. Was super surprised that every new feature felt (and looked!) like a natural evolution of the last few features. Very easy to take in and explore. Gives a sense of wonder that it's hard to feel with platformers anymore.

Easily the best experience I've had in recent memory. Excellent aesthetic, dynamic soundtrack that sounds too good, and tight controls that make you enjoy powering through the tougher bonus levels.

One day I'll get out there for that 101%...

    • Works on Linux with Proton 6.3-4 (must use this version for achievements to work)
    • 21:9 support out of the box and it's amazing

Pretty nice and unique "physics puzzler". The setting is slightly strange. :) Pleasing visually, runs great on 2015 GPU. The vector graphics style is nice. The music is nice also. It's generated procedurally and closely responds to events in game.

TL:DR - A simple, relaxing artsy platformer that reminds me of Flow crossed with PixelJunk Eden.

As much as I like really intense shooty/slashy games, sometimes you just want something chill, artsy and relaxing. Ynglet is one of those. It reminds me of PixelJunk Eden crossed with the PS3 game Flow.

The art is all simple hand drawn lines, but has its own extreme charm. The background is usually one color, with the foreground a different color, but as you explore, interacting with and landing on game objects causes bright pops of color to appear. The music is ambient and relaxing and fits well with the games overall theme. I do like the fact that as you move and land on things, chimes and other sounds play that mix well with the background music, adding another layer.

Its hard to describe what the game actually is beyond "a platformer", but that doesnt quite do it justice. You bounce around from object to object, collecting things and looking for the exit. But its one of those games where the experience is more than the sum of its parts. One of the really cool parts is that you can save your place when you're sitting in any basic block by just resting for a second until a pink bar surrounds the block you're on.. That makes it much less frustrating when you're trying for a difficult to collect object as you wont have to go all the way through the level to get to that point.

The controls are perfect, and if you have physical limitations, there are many different control options and overall difficulty levels to make the game more or less easy (such as more or less gravity, how easily you control the PC when in the air, ect.) That is much appreciated.

One thing I want is more - so far the only permanent ability Ive gotten is dash, and although the levels do change color and add different things to interact with, once you get about halfway in, it doesn't seem to add any further things to change the worlds up.
Still, its fun and a nice change of pace from severing heads or riddling bodies with bullets.

Very good! The artwork and feel of this game are the highlight for me. It's a small game; I finished everything (other than 101% :)) in a couple hours. I certainly don't mind a small game, although I admit I did miss some of Nifflas's signatures (I think exploring the tucked-away secrets in games like Knytt UG and NightSky have been some of my favorite gaming moments!). But that's actually more like praise for previous games than a problem with this one, which hangs together very nicely!

You get exactly what you pay for - a beautiful platformer with vibrant colors, interesting mechanics, and a relaxing soundtrack.

Pretty short, but it's also pretty cheap so definitely worth your time and money 👍

Trekopep
Trekopep

As everyone else mentions, it's short. You'll get an hour or two of gameplay out of this.

That out of the way, this game is BRILLIANT. Every movement happens with an explosion of color and sound that just makes you feel good. Controlling your character as you swim from visually-pleasing block to block, bounce, dash, and zip through the air is just fantastic, and new mechanics are introduced often enough to keep it interesting. The game isn't too difficult (I recommend starting on the hardest difficulty and lowering it if you're having trouble), but there are definitely some spots that provide a good challenge, and there are some pretty nice options for gameplay speed, gravity, and movement control if it feels a bit too hard.

As good as the gameplay is (and it's really good), the part of this game that's going to make it stick in my mind is definitely the visuals and audio. Bright colors and smooth shapes that draw themselves into the world, particles for everything that happens, this game is gorgeous.

And oh my god, the description is not kidding when it mentions a dynamic soundtrack. The music in this game is synthy and bassy, and is pretty much without a doubt the most fun reactive music I've ever heard in a game. Sound effects match the keys of the music, the music changes smoothly depending on where you are in a level, the music changes keys when you're launched off of a speedy track thing (that's the one that really got me. I went back onto the speed tracks a number of times just to hear the music change keys and chords when I was launched off; it's really well implemented). If I go back to play this game again, hearing the soundtrack again will probably be the main reason why. I've just never heard another game do it as well as this one does.

Not much in terms of a story here, but what's there (intro, outro, and guiding some of the creatures to the exit) is cute and complements the gameplay well.

TL;DR If you love dynamic reactive soundtracks, lots of shapes and colors, smooth movement gameplay, and don't mind a short game, absolutely buy this.

What a clever game! Inventive, thoughtful, relaxing yet engaging. I reached out to the creator, who said their inspirations included "a comic by Elis Eriksson called Pavan... Copenhagen, microorganisms and eye floaters :)"

The aesthetics - I haven't seen a game like this before. It's eye opening and inspires creativity. It makes me rethink the spatial and structural limitations of games.

The game mechanics - very satisfying movement controls! It's fun to jump around each level and find new, more inventive ways to move. Plus, as you move across the blocks in the map, there are interesting visual effects on the blocks themselves - some seem to grow plants, others sprout intricate patterns. The result is that every action you take feels valuable and real in the environment.

The music- the music adds a lot to the feel of the game, and to some extent, like the visual effects around the blocks, is responsive to player movement. Beats change or are added on top of the pleasant, and exploratory soundtrack. Another element that both immerses you and makes you feel like your actions have an impact.

The puzzles/challenges - the game uses some pretty thoughtful aids and hindrances as you move across the map. For example, a microbe-ian version of a subway system helps you navigate through parts of levels, and blue and red lines let you bounce around, depending on how you interact with them - all while you're fighting gravity. I think there is potential for more obstacles and aids, but there's still plenty to work with as is. Maybe if there is a sequel...

Overall - fun, relaxing but simultaneously deeply engaging. Quick game (I'm about halfway through on the medium difficulty setting after playing about one hour), but with plenty of replay value for those who enjoy the mechanics. So, so, so creative and even inspiring. Great job, Nifflas!

Really just a joy to experience. Charming visuals and sound. Responsive controls. It plays like a sharp, challenging platformer (with plenty of difficulty adjustment / accessibility options if you need them), but with a character who swims through platforms rather than landing on top of them. It's a short game (the main game will probably take less than 2 hours, though there are also extra challenge levels), packed tightly with fun ideas and twists on its core mechanic. Highly recommended.

Somewhere between That Game Company’s Flow and Gravity Ghost, Ynglet is a lovely little puzzle platformer that just feels excellent to vibe with. The checkpointing system in particular is rather genius, allowing you to make certain bubbles your checkpoint simply by pausing inside of them. A solid little experience from start to finish that is well worth the couple of hours it will take to play.

Ynglet is the direct alchemical mix of two very personal and formative games for me as a kid, namely fl0w and Pixeljunk Eden, so I can't help but feel a little seen. Gorgeous frictionless micro-botany aesthetic, plinky ost and tranquil floaty minimal controls that disguise a surprising amount of depth and challenge, of which the game is excited to explore at a consistent curve throughout its short 80-minute lifetime.

Ynglet is fun to play. It values your time and difficulty preferences. You can enjoy an easy ride through the different levels or amp up the difficulty for some real challenges. I don't know if I can call it a platformer or anti-platformer, but for someone who desperately failed at Celeste, I really did enjoy cruising through Copenhagen felling super skilled. The art style's also gorgeous, the score ranging from relaxing to demanding, just like the overall game. Only downside is that Ynglet is rather short, but considering that there's a limited set of game mechanics, it maybe would overstay its welcome, would there be a few more levels. So all in all, two thumbs up, super well spent 90 minutes

Good vibes. Really needed this kind of game after grinding on a platformer that was just stressing me out at the end boss. Here? Just chill. Take it easy. Liking the audio sync to movement thing going on. Reminds me of PixelJunk Eden by Q-Games a bit. I hesitated a while back to buy it but took the chance this time since that soundtrack and art style really was hooking me.

Whoa.

This is a beautiful little platformer-ish game that feels really good to play. The art style and music are gorgeous; the controls are simple but they don't need to be complicated, and handle really well. You swim through bubbles at your own pace – make any bubble a checkpoint by resting in it for a moment!

You're gonna want a controller, probably. We haven't tried keyboard and mouse but kinda like twin-stick shooters, it controls really well with an analog stick.

It reminds me a lot of Flow, visually, soundtrack-wise. Plays nothing like, though. But it's got the same peaceful, relaxing microbial-life vibe to it.

Very relaxing zen experience, which can be made more challenging by your own hand based purely on how often you take checkpoint breaks. Dynamic music system is really well put together and always fun to listen to. Brief but engaging little world that I can get sucked into as easily as with the pikmin series or flOw, and the psychedelic nature of the visuals can't be overstated. It's rad.

Exploration in a strange and wonderful world by one of the best in the game at taking you somewhere magical. There are so many ways a "platformer" like this could have felt clumsy and awkward, but it feels like every single pitfall was avoided. I loved the soundtrack, the slick feel of the dash, all of the little creatures inhabiting the world, and the opportunity to exist somewhere else for a while. My only wish is that it were longer, but it was easily worth the price of entry.

I've been playing a lot of systemsy optimizationy games lately, and this game brought a smile to my face in a childlike wonder kind of way that I haven't experienced in a while, if you need that right now I highly recommend this.

There's so much in here that's well done, multiple difficulties (I'm on challenging but because you can make checkpoints anywhere it's still super chill and not frustrating at all), the time-slow mechanic to help you plan out your shots for the harder parts, the stunning visuals and particle effects, the way the world map works is simple but beautiful, the level progression and tutorialization is perfectly tuned, I just love everything. Totally worth more than the $5 they're asking.

Neat little (emphasis on little) game that has a pretty basic core gameplay loop but does enough with it to feel fresh and challenging the whole way through, and is just a delight both visually and sonically to boot. This game is as indie as games can get. It's a totally unique game that a major studio would never approve. It reminds me of how world of goo, braid, and super meat boy among others back in the day began the indie game revolution on steam. It's sad that unique games like this are far and few now... or perhaps they are not but the endless flood of garbage onto steam makes it very hard to find games like this. In this case, I was able to find the game because it was made by the creator of the legendary Knytt underground. had it not been for that fact I doubt I would have been able to find this....

Nifflas has been one of my top indie developers for a long time (Knytt Stories is my favorite freeware game) and this creation of his does not disappoint. Its innovatively designed mechanics and smooth gameplay can please platforming masters and newcomers alike. You won't spend a ton of time trying to figure out puzzles, in the style of Escape Goat, nor will the game have you constantly replaying sections due to requiring hardcore precision. In fact, the checkpoint system is one of the game's new mechanics and, to an extent, lets you choose how much of a level you want to replay after death.

The visuals and sound contribute to a tactile and atmospheric feel that meets the standards the developer has set in his previous games.

If you want to try a game that reinvents the platform (literally), while being quite satisfying to play overall, then this is one you ought to give a go.

A nice little fun game that oozes charm. The movement feels nice, and the levels are designed well. The visuals and dynamic music are especially wonderful, having the same sort of charm as something Keita Takahashi would make, but with a very simple and clean look. The game also constantly keeps you interested with new gameplay mechanics and visuals, which kept me from getting bored throughout the entire game.
I pretty much don't have any complaints, except for maybe that the checkpoint system kindof halts the flow that the movement was built around, but it was a neat idea and didn't ruin any of the gameplay for me.

Definitely worth picking up, but keep in mind that it is a very short game.

Quick score: 4/5

Notes: My only real problem with the game is that the overall difficulty is really really low, and that's at max difficulty and no assist options. It's still a fun game for sure though. Visuals and audio are great. Movement is smooth and maneuvering through the levels is fun even when it isn't much of a challenge. The bonus levels give a small taste of what the game could have been like if it was more difficult, but they are pretty short and have no achievements associated with them.

Ynglet is like a musical painting that's played through simple yet well-meshed platforming ideas. I’m enamored with the delightful adaptive soundtrack that plays amidst the ensemble of line art amoebas. The visual combination of microbiology and urban planning draws a clever parallel between two worlds of drastically differing sizes. The marker-drawn surroundings are cute yet they are captivatingly alien and mathematical in the patterns that they form. Each gameplay element brings new sounds into the game's music and adds to the diversity of each Petri dish’s scenery. It's a truly mesmerizing show that impresses from start to finish.

kingoflogres
kingoflogres

Ynglet is an excellent game that, honestly, it's hard to describe. My best attempt would be something along the lines of "platforming through cell structures that's also an abstracted city", but even then, I think that leaves out far too much of the game's personality -- personality you'll only discover by playing it. It's hard to describe how the chirping soundtrack melds with the psychadelic background and the silky movement controls to create something coherent, but it all melds. It all works.

Ynglet is not particularly hard and offers a number of assist options to make the gameplay even more accessible, so even if platforming in the loosest sense is not your cup of tea, I recommend trying it. It'll take you maybe two hours, and at the end, you'll have experienced a game that I can all but guarantee is altogether unlike anything else you've played before. Highly recommend!

Ynglet is a tricky game to review. Aesthetically it stands out from the crowd and while I can't say I fell in love with the art, I know some will. Gameplay is fun in parts and tedious in others, but there are good difficulty options to tweak your experience. Quick Description:
-Ynglet is one of the weirdest platformers that I have ever played, but I had such a great time. It's peaceful, cathartic, gorgeous, and offers a decent challenge. This is a great game to keep you busy for an afternoon, and one that won't set your wallet back too much. This is a game I'm happy to recommend to all platformer fans.

What's Good:
-This game is uttlerly bizarre, but absolutely beautiful visually. The dev did a great job w/ clean lines, really cool particle effects, tons of bright colors that pop off the screen, and other really cool visual effects.
-It's easy to recommend a game when it's this cheap. At $5, this is such a steal. The dev is an expert at making unique, yet challenging platformers, and Ynglet is no exception. It took me just over 2 hrs to 100% the game, and there are a couple of bonus levels if I decide I want to 101% the game. This game is unlike any other game, which is why it is such good value.
-Some of the later levels are pretty tough and make you think creatively. I attempted the first bonus level, and it's really challenging. Diehard precision platformer fans are sure to like this game.

Could Use Some Changes:
-The only real criticism I have is that technically, this game doesn't bring anything new to the genre. Every level is basically a stage in a water level where one of the platforms is made of water, and you have to jump in and out of the platform. That's pretty much it.

Consensus:
-Solid Game (Tier 3 and makes up 35% of my reviews). The game could have been the easiest game in the world, and I still would think it's worth the asking price. The fact that there are some challenging moments that will test your platforming skills, is the icing on the cake for me. This is a fun game, that is different from pretty much everything on the market, and one that I'm happy to recommend.

Awesome game. Every stage feels unique and fun, which I didn't expect with a game of this style. The level design makes you feel like you can tackle the platforming puzzles however you want and it feels rewarding every time I get out of a stuck position. All in all the game feels super smooth and polished with some good challenges.

Nifflas, you are a legend.
