I actually enjoyed this game for what time I played it, though it did seem like it would be a bit grindy. It definitely plays off the VRMMO aspect well, and the controls are pretty easy to learn, spare maybe gliding.

Unfortunately, I had to refund this game due to getting horrible motion sickness from playing. I would have done the 3rd person movement method if the camera angles for it weren't bad to the point of making it useless.

If you're prone to VR motion sickness, this may not be the right game for you, but otherwise it's worth a try.

i am rather excited for the future of this game as well as what it means for future vrmmorpgs - if you find the opportunity to play this, do so.

Seems pretty good. A few bugs, I don't know if they're on my end... Has good potential, there are more updates coming out making it better (even if the last one was a bit of a flop). Uh, yeah! I'd recommend it, you can always refund if you encounter too many bugs.

I love this game. However, if it was more immersive it would be 10000x better! For example, its more level based than skill based. If I want to fight on vr, I'd like to use my real life skills to help me, not my high level sword. IDK if u know what I mean, but if you do please consider adding an update that helps rely on skills and not levels.

I wasn't expecting much. I put on the set with a friend to meet up with. 7.8 hours later I had just an INCREDIBLE experience. Amazing community, even the kids are respectful/helpful in this game. The HUD is innovative... Me nor my friend have ever spent so much time in VR at once. It turned into a pretty incredible experience. Can't wait to see where this game ends up in a year or two.

My suggestion: Add more little treasures to find in hiding spots. We found so many cool off-the-beaten-path spots and we were always saying "mannn there should be a chest or something here, NOBODY would find it." Maybe random drops throughout the map for cosmetics/valuable items... seasonal scavenger hunts/ races.... SO much potential man. Mainly because the community is open to WHATEVER you add. Just keep going! Great work! You guys have the potential of being THE VRMMORPG a decade from now like WOW was to PC. Keep investing in this idea.

Good game for an VR MMORPG! Currently there is only 2 classes, swordman and a pew pew wizard, but hopefully they add more in the future.
Class breakdown is simple. Sword goes swoosh and handgun goes pew pew. Of course there is some spells and stuff but who cares, either you bring a sword to a gunfight or you bring a gun to a sword fight.
Both classes have 3 sub-classes they can be, a healer, tank and DPS which you can swap freely between with the only thing being they have separate levels which i like, because that means i can play with friends who are just starting, without me ripping and tearing everything in the early levels.

Would love some kind of blacksmith/crafting minigame for gear like they have for cooking, which at first was a bit confusing but after about 2h trying to figure that **** out with 7 people we managed to figure out how to shove the battery in the oven.
I also love how you can just force feed people burnt cookies. Most of the time i've found myself distracted from saving/freeing/who knows the world by just spending all my time cooking. I cannot stress how fun and relaxing it is. Hell i'm a chef and i love cooking in VR more than in real life since i rarely cut or burn my fingers in VR :)

I am not much for socializing in online games, but in VR it feels very natural, since i still have that sort of feeling of safety knowing i can just leave if i feel too overwhelmed, but yet the players are so nice and fun to adventure with i found myself randomly grouping up with people on multiple days.

Flying/Gliding is very tiring but i love it. Very hard to control if you need to do some parkour but live and learn.
Quests are basic ''Go there and kill this, come back and claim reward'' But i love it, no idea what the story is like always since i hate reading, but so far there is a woman called Mika i think who is either magic or a clone since that woman is literally everywhere.

Only downside with the game is that i have to go to work and sleep so i don't have time to live my anime fantasy 24/7 :/
AND I CAN'T EVEN SURVIVE ON VR FOOD! What a waste of a life ;_;

Died in the tutorial. Had to log out of game, take off headset, look up online how to revive myself, put on headset, and log back in to game. Then the game stopped working. This game seems needlessly frustrating, like tell the player how to revive in the tutorial or in the help menu?

Legit one of the funnest, most immersive games i've played in VR. The game runs amazingly well and feels optimized. I'd love to see more variety in terms of classes and quest types, but considering this is early access, it feels really well put together and as if there's substantial content.

BluNinja42

Game is super glitchy and is not fun, I have had many NPCs/People vanish into mid air. Quest system sucks and design is very poorly put together, I would suggest playing A Township Tale instead of this, the game is still one of my favorites and it is also free on Computer. Please dont buy this.

V1ncenzio

I'm going to start this review by saying i like this game but i also understand that i have really weird taste when it comes to what i call a good game so i made a list of pros and cons for people to look through.

Cons:
1.The combat sucks, not just because it is buggy but because it is repetitive, its going to sounds dumb but i wish they made combat more like any other Vr game with combat. when i play blades and sorcery if feels like i am actually in a fight the weapon has weight and just the overall feel of the games combat mechanics are better then zeniths mechanics

2.Player base has been dwindling at least it feels like it has because the team of zenith does not feel comfortable to release those stats maybe it is because they are tanking and they are worried that if new players see the player count they wont get the game but the thing that they don't seem to realise is that them not releasing the stats even if the stats turned out to be good because we don't no that because we can only go off information at are disposal, which from the start of me playing this game to me writing this review i continue to see less and less people every week most of the people you will see are fresh players just starting or level 40s that this is pretty much the only game they play because it is as they say "one of there favourite games because they love how the games looks and they love the mechanics so much". but is reality the game is mid so you will probably like it till it is to late to refund it and then you are stuck with 2 choices let about 35 dollars go to waste or continue to play the game till you can take it anymore.

3.Graphics are not amazing especially if you play on a quest and even for people on PC that aren't running higher end computers will suffer because the only real setting that would help your frame rate is to turn down the volume of grass on the ground which makes the ground smooth nothing like ground at all even cartoon ground looks better and this also goes for those individuals that are running the best computers on the market your game will not look any different then anybody else's game the only thing that will differ is the amount of frames you will get.

4.no trading items with other players, now im pretty sure we can all agree that any mmo on this planet game out with some sort of item trading because who would think it would be a good thing to leave out (oh wait zenith would for what ungodly reasons i have no clue)

5.you will most likely have some 6 year old kid with a toaster for a mic screaming in your face at least once a day

6.content can be fun for the first run through but anymore then that first time it sucks and is super repetitive

7.void of any content that would make it a good mmo (please see all the reason stated above)

pros:
1.the one kinda good thing i could think that wasn't like most other review about people liking the combat because i can confirm that the combat sucks (please read con number one if you haven't already). Is that the game is in early access so hopefully they can start working on actually stuff to make it a good game and not just pump of new content so that they don't keep losing more of there player base (please see con number 2 for more).

2.if you have no life outside of you're house like me then you will probably like this game because you dont care if you have to do the same task 2000 times to get what you need because lets be honest its not like we really got anything better to do

feel free to comment if you disagree. probably wont respond but hey maybe i will you never know

Experienced on the Rift S. Gameplay looks cool but my rift frequently stutters at random times in the game, after stutter game comes back normal but with no audio, need to restart oculus or enable/disable oculus sound in sound devices for it to come back. This made the game unplayable for me, since you need to be able to communicate with others. This game is the ONLY game that does this for me, no problems with other games so it is not related to my Rift but to the game. I made a ticket for this on their bug reporting website (https://feedback.zenithmmo.com/boards/bug-reports/posts/lose-audio-afte…) but no response, so I refunded it. Think game will be fine with newer headsets, but i'm not about to spend that kind of money just to be able to play one game. So Rift users beware!

Antifox
Antifox

Rpg based action isn't there, the level scaling makes you too weak to advance along with no real way to get stronger because the level scaling caps all your stats. Gameplay is basically replaying the first set of missions on repeat throughout the game.
If anything it would be nice to have at least the 2 levels above the enemy that you grinded so hard to earn.
If fixed then my recommendation wont be wasted.

combat

the combat is ok at best, staggering does not work half the time and the times that it does the enemy was moving and not attacking.

cooking

as it stands its in that nice zone where the food you cook does good to help you but doesnt change its stats based on how well you cooked it [the other fuel for the cooker does nothing].

class selection

honestly it just boils down to do you want to move your arms alot or not, subclasses are differant enough that you will need to pick what is right for you.

conclusion

this game has a while to go before it becomes great.

but its got a good start :)

After the most recent update Zenith has become a game I really want to like, but don't enjoy playing. A lot of the things that initially drew me into the game are now non-existent. It would appear that the game is shaping its user experience into that of a mobile mmo (requiring weeks of dull monotonous grinding to unlock the next step in weeks of dull boring grinding so you can unlock gear that lets you do some things that are fun a few times, but get very dull after a few playthroughs) and leaning away from mechanics and elements that make a VR game fun and engaging. The social experience in Zenith has all but died thanks to the new Instance browser (matchmaking sounds like a great idea, but now there is no reason to travel the map) and the removal of the beloved flying glitch has made locomotion in Zenith as boring as the new grind.

Zenith now feels like a subpar flat MMO that you play in VR for some reason. None of the mechanics aside from the god-awful climbing require the use of VR and spending so much time grinding in VR just isn't enjoyable.

All of this said - The game is definitely worth the price and I don't regret purchasing it, I just don't feel compelled to ever boot it up again until their next large update.

Game was better then I was expecting, but sadly...I fell in love with a 44 year old Egirl named Steve

Update 1: This game has made me lose my sense of time, it was 11 when I got on to level my tank mage, next thing I know its 3 AM and I'm still in love with a 44 year old Egirl named Steve. My mind is slowly breaking due to this game I tried to spawn the cooking station in real life.

Update 2: I had a date with Steve on top of schmooze Island, Hard to get to, managed to Finally get to level 13, Steve is still a 44 year old Egirl. Lost all my sanity doing a group quest solo, and phased out of reality so much I cant tell whats real anymore. I love you Steve.

Update 3: Steve my 44 Year old Egirl Girlfriend and I gotten married ontop of schmooze island, it was a small reception, we had a great time, I love you steve and I hope our love never ends.

One-Card Pony
One-Card Pony

I'm not big on VR games, but this hits all my personal requirements for what a good VR game is. It performs well because it's low-poly, it's not confusing but has enough depth, and what you can actually do is pure fun.

You can glide and climb everything as soon as you start playing. And it *works* well. If your latency is good then the enemies are responsive and the fighting gives good feedback. You can even block certain enemy projectiles and reliably block melee attacks from hitting you or your buddies.
There are two main classes, and you can switch between their three subclasses whenever. I think they're all good. You can play this alone, but playing this game is like being inside old school WoW, and I mean that in the best possible sense. You *are* the cool parrying animations and global CDs. And the abilities are designed with teamwork in mind. So get the game and make some friends already!

Its still early access but i can see its potential. I encourage more weapon deversity for melee and maybe more deverse quest.

I haven't played that much at the time of this review, but I do believe the game to not be that awful, besides a few things that as long as the dev's listen to the reviews they could fix (some will be a personal preference thing). This "review" will be more of an informative thing than a pro/con thing. I'm going to have it as a positive review since my general experience seemed to be good, and a few of these things could be me just not "getting it"

First thing I would add would be a major warning when you boot up the game to make sure surroundings are clear and to stay well within the boundaries. Although this is 90% my fault, and its something I will just have to get used to, I proceeded to slam my hand into a table when taking a particularly large swing with my sword. I don't know if I should give them props for being well immersive that I wasn't paying attention, or if I should ask for a change in swordplay to not need that large of a swing. I have not tested the mage class so I have nothing to say about combat/life there.

Second thing would be an AI/combat tweak at least at the beginning. Yes this could just be a "git gud" sort of situation, but when in one of the first quests, when I'm still trying to figure out the controls and combat, I'm being surrounded on all sides by enemies with a decent amount of health, it would be nice to not have as many enemies. I tried luring them out one by one, but I would always pull at least 2 at a time, which is kinda hard to figure out without brute forcing my way through a bunch of deaths.

Third would be an option to create an account/login on your pc/on a keyboard. It just took way too long to put in a username, password twice, and email twice.

Final fix I would say for now is just general performance upgrades. My PC is pretty beefy and has been able to play many VR titles, but this one it was struggling with, even on lower graphics settings. I understand this is a very large game, along with it being online, but it seems like it has the ability to run well on non-supercomputer machines.

Although I bring up quite a few issues, I do believe the game has a lot of potential. The UI seems to be well made, and I like that the chat mute settings are easily accessible, since I'm not all that comfortable with VC yet.

fpruzius
fpruzius

I tried it, but so far I'm not having a lot of fun. It's not bad, but it's not good either. I know its early access, but there are a lot of glitches and bugs in the first area alone. Text is written over other text, I keep walking in a weird sideways stride. I use the out of body movement, witch is a great idea. When I let go of the walking button, ofthen nothing happens and I keep staring at by disembodied self, often getting hit in combat. This is extreemly fustrating. And the cooking... the idea is fun, but the controls are just bad imho. And there is no instructions to put the clinder in the furnace, none. I keep grabbing cookies instead of my weapon, that could be just me. Combat is OK, quests are fine. There is potential but I'll wait a bit longer, the bugs are breaking my immersion completely. I would still reccomend, since there is nothing like it, but personally I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

This game has the backbones to make something amazing. So I'll likely turn this to an upvote later... But for now? I just can't back the black market part of this game. It's actually really disgusting. I don't know if the devs thought it was funny or what, but it basically promotes prostitution. And I thought GTA was bad in that sense, but my god. It was just a poor sea turtle! I mean WTF?!

simple things like auto eye tracking (simulated eye movement) would really improve the social.
...full body would revolutionize the social experince.

BUT its not orbus. so as far as the VR MMO scene goes this is pretty good at scratching the itch while waiting for something better.

What it does well are the vistas (mmo level but fine) , the gameplay is pretty fun, it touches on cooking and upgrading, and flying is a nice experince.

6.5/10 , get it on sale, but support things like this so we can see more.

So far this game has been nothing else than fun. I Recommend it if you are a fan of mmo/fantasy/adventure type games. The glide mechanic, the combat, the skills, the bosses, the various people you meet and team up with. I enjoy everything so far and it most likely will stay that way. This game is exactly what i've been itching to play for a long time.

If you own an HTC headset don't buy this. It doesn't natively support it. TLDR You won't get smooth turning to work, and given how unconfortable the grips are in the vive, realize you will have to hold the grip to hold weapons, which means you keep dropping them.

I'm sure the game is great, was watching vids and it made me pull my headset out of storage to try it out. Just trying to avoid dissapointment to any other HTC users who will figure it out after they buy it, since the store page makes no mention of these issues. To even get it marginally working with snap turning, you will need to go into the steam workshop and download user created joystick configurations.

Warning given, devs if you ever fix this let me know i'll hop on again and update this.

This game is an important step in VR gaming. It's the first real execution of an MMO in VR, and while it has a ways to go, I think it's worth anyone interested in VR to check it out.

The game clicked for me the first time I managed to get onto the highest thing I could see on the horizon and just turn around and look at everything.

The next thing that really got me excited was a level 10 zone that featured a lot of traversal.

Most of the community is friendly and helpful (most, not all), and I think that's a real key for the communication system they have implemented. But the great thing is that even without voice and audio you can still pantomime your way through most basic conversations.

This game has me really excited for the future of VR MMOs, but is still grand in its own regard.

If you want to spend 90 percent of your time trying to fly through rings or other stupid jumping and flying quests this is your game. Want to kill stuff and get loot find another game. They could have had the wow of vr, instead you have a limited amount of stamina to fly so they have stupid flying, jumping and zip lines that you can just barely do because of low stamina so you end up doing the stupid flying through hoops bs over and over and over. The second area of the game is literally all flying and jumping bs. Then they added new raids but you have to do a platform jump bunch of bs for 30 min to get there and one wrong move and you do it all the f over again. This is the stupidest mmo i have ever seen.

So, admittedly I haven't played too long when writing this review, as you can see above. This review mainly stems from personal taste and bias. I want to acknowledge that bias because I feel the casual player may enjoy this game way more than I could.

I'm quite an active-minded player; I enjoy playing games on the edge of my seat, bringing a sense of challenge and overcoming odds in the face of adversity.

However, I am part of a crowd different from the MMORPG scene's usual player base. Most games today are the opposite; Designed to be relaxing, mindless, and easy-going. However, by luck, some games out there allow me to experience the game in a separate, more tailored game mode for my needs. Unfortunately, as of writing, this game provides no such mode.

Yes, I admit it was foolish of me to think otherwise. Furthermore, a simple google search on my part would reveal the developers have no intention of such a mode in this game. I wish more games tackled this issue, because I feel it is possible to truly appeal to everyone. Instead, the gaming industry today fails me at every turn and it saddens me.

It's spite. That's all this review is, spite. If you feel the same, then I recommend looking elsewhere. If you fit into the usual category, you may find some appeal to this game.

I did enjoy this game in every aspect for about 30 or 40 hours but past that there was not much to keep me entertained, bought on launch day and was thrilled, played for hours, and for more the consecutive days but now it feels sorta bland, maybe if some mini games?, pvp?, more customization for players?, or maybe just player housing would make me feel like coming back for more, in its current state I will come back every once in a while because this is the starting point of every good vrmmorpg, but thats really all it is as of now, a starting point for other games to take lead, but for what it is, take this with a grain of salt, it may be worth the fun that it has brought and the times with friends that it brought aswell.

Looks and feels absolutely terrible, like a cheap generic Unity demo made by a college student.

The game is repetitive, over grindy, and still should be in early access with how broken the map can sometimes feel.

They shouldn't be allowed to list HTC Vive as a supported headset when the only way to make it playable is with community fixes and those fixes are barely acceptable or to buy index controllers. Grip options need to be fixed this is a notorious problem on vive and the posts are all 6 months old so the devs clearly don't care to fix the controls. Not to mention there's no turning without a fix and even then you can't use smooth turning.

I'm super bummed out because the game itself feels good but I'm not going to death grip my controllers for 30 hours to find out how good it can be just because they advertised the support for a headset they clearly have never tested before.

I'm under level 20, and have played 2 very long sessions (5+ hours) and a couple of short sessions. I am enjoying it enough to play for hours on end still. The community in-game is really good... Lots of helpful veterans actually seeking out to help newbies. This is great, because not everything is explained very well, and some things can be a bit confusing for a first timer. The game does have some bugs still for sure, but if you like traditional mmo games, I think you would probably like this game as well. I have had a higher level person or two tell me that things start getting a bit boring around level 23 or so. I will update this review down the road whether that is true or not. So far, I think it was worth the purchase, however. Part of that worth is it's future POTENTIAL, for sure, as they iron out bugs and continue to develop and enhance the experience.

This game is a lot of fun. There are a lot of quests to do and many places to explore. The community is overall very kind and helpful. You can go up to almost any high-level player, and they will help you with whatever you need (dungeon, quest, directions, etc.)

The game has a few bugs, such as missing textures in some obscure parts of the map, but the game plays smoothly and with few problems overall.

You can play the game solo, but you will likely need to ask for help from strangers for some quests intended for a group. The gliding mechanic is a lot of fun and takes a fair amount of practice to master, but it can be helpful in fights and getting around the map faster. I'm not at the end game yet, but I've heard from those in the end game that there is plenty to do.

The devs are attentive and passionate about this project. They listen to the community and have big plans for this game. If you've watched Sword Art Online (SAO), this game feels similar to Alfheim. The devs have even said they were heavily by SAO.

Extremely disappointed with this game. I had been looking forward to it for a while but the team didn't deliver. They had the funding they just couldn't do it.

I have just over 18 hours in the game. Game has been fun. Easy to pickup and play. Some of the quests can be a little confusing, but for the most part the game is good. Needs a little polish but I think for the most part the dev's have a solid start.

I like the game as a vr mmo. which is pretty much by itself in the genre. It definitely has a long way to go if it wants to compete with normal mmo's including the gap with it being VR.

Pretty Meh, theres not much to expect from a vrmmo as theres not much of a market for it, content is boring, combat is meh, weapon and armour designs are bad and are all similar there's no variation, not a wide range of skills/spells. Levelling sucks. Cooking is pretty fun though.

(i really want a ff14 vrmmo)

The game seems interesting but it's completely broken on Index controllers. It will not correctly respect the direction you're facing, despite using headset-oriented movement. If you hold backwards to strafe backwards, at random points you will end up walking forward, without changing your input at all. Horribly disorienting and broken, makes an interesting game nearly unplayable.

The focus of this dev team boggles the mind as they are too focused on "End Game" content and not enough literal "meat" for the game. As of this writing, there's *still* 2 classes in this game, *since launch*, and only *one class* teased. The 2 classes are just dual wielding swords or twin guns (which can cast magic). There's sub classes in there, but they don't change much of the game aside from the gun healer. Where are their interests? Seems to be just money really, and sponsorships. Newest update that comes right after my review is just more cosmetic BS, while also pandering to some bHaptics vest company. Where's the Full Body Tracking that's been teased since Alpha?

I've been waiting for this team to honestly pull themselves together and put out real content, but I just can no longer suggest this game. You'll have to find som'in else to fill your VR MMO fantasies.

Before you buy !! Things you have to consider

This game is an awesome VRMMORPG with lot of amazing feature to let you explore a beautiful world, most people here are friendly and there are lot to explore but !

You have to keep in mind that this game is STILL in Early Access which means not everything will work, there is sometimes lack of content in the end game and lot of changes are possible in the future, there's also a lack of classes which for now is only 2, (3 In the end of the year) and this game require patience and grinding, you cannot buy anything with real money in this game so if you want something you have to grind it from start.

But other than that this game gives you an insane opportunity to explore a fantasy open world with a great community that are here to help if required, lot of update are put in the game to make it better every time :)

if you're looking for sao in vr, this isn't it. If you're looking for something that might be fun to do dungeons and other things too, this game isn't really that fun for that either... Maybe just get vr chat and just wait for their version of sao it'll be much better promise.

LOTS of bugs. At the start it was maybe? acceptable but this game is out for like half a year now, and still i could not even join a server just now.

Revard

Not quite there yet,, Fights are still clunky and not satisfying. There isn't really any incentive to cooperate with others, quests are all mostly bugged... The UI is still not user friendly, skill three is confusing has hell and bugged (you have to spam the icon to upgrade the skill when you have a point). The processing is still laggy giving me motion sickness and I do play quite often some other games with the same movement mechanics. So like, the lag definitely doesn't help =/

This game has lots of potential, but the executions is really not well made.. I worked with that technology and I know it can be tricky but there are many things that could be improved before simply thinking of adding content.
Please go for Quality > Quantity ....

This game is okay, but far from complete. Play styles are limited, mobs are linear with little story line to them. Cookie cutter. If this game was released as an mmo for non vr platforms it would be a big flop. It's only attraction is the fact that its a vr mmo which is a new realm in gaming right? After the novelty of VR runs out this game falls flat.

This game is SO good, its a beautiful world, the gameplay is awesome and i can really recommend playing it, i followed the developers, more than a year before it was released, and it was just what i imagined,

has potential, but got boring fast. suffers from the same problems other mmos have.

This game is not for everyone. It is very clearly in early access. Below are the pros and cons from what I've played.

Pros:
-Big world with lots of biomes
-Active dev team who is trying to improve the game all the time
-Friendly Player base
-pretty good graphics for the genre and price
-good HUD and mechanics
-Fun quests and objectives

Cons:
-game is not polished at all. There are random patches in the floor where you can fall through. if you go a little off the path in some places you can see the cracks in the textures
-quests and objective bug a lot, causing you to restart them or log out a lot.
-lots of grindy parts, and missions that are hard because higher leveled players get to them first and finish them before you can get there.
-Lots of lag, the more players on the server the more lag you will get. its more fun with other people, but the more there are, the worse the lag is, and it gets pretty bad.
-some quests and objectives can be very repetative.

Over all I Like the game, its fun enough to look over the isues, and its can only improve.

Everyone loves the idea of playing an SAO-esque MMORPG in VR and having fantasical adventures with friends online. The biggest issue with Zenith (and other attempts at MMORPGs in VR) is that MMORPGs tend to have very casual, zen play, which is not very easy to do when your stuck standing around and waving your arms. The combat here would be repetitive in a standard MMORPG, let alone one that's set in VR. There's also practically nothing to do outside of fight things in Zenith, the game is ultimately a repetitive, hack-and-sometimes-slash numberfest that doesn't offer anything else to players.

This is all without mentioning the fact that any interesting gameplay in combat (at least compartively) is only accessible by being a mage, making the blademaster an absolutely worthless class for anyone looking to be engaged with Zenith. If this game is trying to be SAO without the whole you-die-in-the-game-you-die-in-real-life thing, it's failing pretty bad. There aren't even that many RPG elements in this MMO*RPG*. SAO / WoW are interesting worlds to play in because the gameplay elements they offer are varied and the worlds themselves are vast. Zenith is utterly tiny and has nothing else to do aside from fight, unless you consider playing a pared-down version of Cooking Mama an interesting gameplay element.

If you're looking for an interesting VR MMORPG, you're not going to find it yet; the tech isn't there, and i don't think any developer working in VR exclusively has the resources needed to make a game half as engaging as something like WoW. I highly recommend Blade & Sorcery, or GORN, if one is interested in melee and ranged combat in VR with a fantasy flavor.

Opossum King

Zenith has its flaws, but overall its an amazing experience. I can get lost in this world for hours doing raids, dungeons, quests, grinding, or just helping a random passerby with a quest. this game truly feels alive and the strong sense of community is apparent. It has a long way to go but the direction that its headed in is a great one.

Rulebook

Played 16 levels of melee tank, and few levels of range support, here my review:
* Graphics are very basic, but allows any VR system to run it smoothly. So it is kinda neutral in the scale.
+ Game has good VR controls.
- This game has way too much grind for levels.
- Quests are extremely boring.
- If your friends don't have VR this game is incrediblly, utterly boring.
I would hate a mmorpg going solo player oriented, but it is unplayable when game doesn't have any appeal to solo players whatsoever. There need to be a balance.
- It has no variety of... anything really. Items, customizations, quests, monsters, loots, npcs... Anything you can think of.
* Story is there I guess but can't say anything about whether if it is good or bad because by the time you get your level to next story quest you will simply forget what was it all about. Only thing you will remember is NPC's face because there are very few npcs and they appear everywhere.

In this state game is very big disappointment, It can still be saved but there should be some radical changes. Doesn't worth your time or money until they get things straight.

As a new player, I am astounded by this game. I am constantly trying to find a good VR game to keep my attention. I love everything about the game so far. I do see an issue with replayability later on down the road but thats not really a fault. The mechanics and vr controls are very fluid and come naturally. I love the ability system and how you have some customization to the abilities you use. For this being a VR game and in early access, I have to say hats off to you all. I don't normally write reviews for games but everything about this made me feel like I had to. I even gifted a few copies to friends in hopes of having them try and it out as well.

So far, its good. Its a little bare bones but the skeleton of a great game is here IMO! They do update it a lot and seem to really care! Read other reviews for more details on the game itself tho. The reason I'm saying no I don't recommend this is for one big problem... Its stability. I mean its in early access so I don't expect a polished game at all and this game certainty isn't polished yet. However, I cant recommend the game in its current state. The problem is the perfect storm of annoyance. {unless all you want to do is help bug test, then go nuts I guess}

Sidenote: For context I am playing on an Index with a very high end rig, my one friend is on a quest 2 and my other a PSVR... and we all experience these issue to a similar degree. So its definitely the game lol

First off, the game crashes... a lot. How often? Well it depends, anytime the game loads it seems like there is a 50% chance it crashes. In me and my friends experience. Unless you have a friend on PSVR, it seems to just crash randomly on there.

Second, its VR... crashing in VR is way more annoying then a normal game because you gotta take your headset off, in my case, walk over to my pc and completely restart steam because when this game crashes it has a nasty habit of actually crashing the headset along with it. To be fair this game isn't alone in that tho. That happens with B&S too, its somewhat common with steam VR.

Third, while crashing in VR is annoying, if I could just log back in then it would be fine... however this game has a problem where if you crash it says you are still logged in and need to wait till it logs you out... This can take less than 5mins... or over an hour!!! It depends on how the game is feeling that day I guess. Now in an MMO that's annoying when we are trying to play together... now we ALL have to wait.

Fourth, I know I hear it already "Isn't this game open world? are there many loading screens?" Nope, there are freaking NONE and that's an AWESOME thing. However... the world...is... HUGE! Like massive. So they realized having you walk from place to place would be ridiculous! So they implemented fast travel! Great but you know what that means... a loading screen. Now you have a choice to make, walk all the way back or take the risk of a crash... smh and because of the above reasons the risk isn't worth it when you are travelling with a group of friends. One or more of you might crash and then you are stuck waiting!!! Well lets say you decide "IDC I LOVE BACKTRACKING CAUSE IM A PSYCHO lol" Well you better be a god gamer and all your friends better be too because if you die... you know what that means, a loading screen... sigh...

If they solved this ONE problem (crashing when loading) I would instantly change this review to positive and write a new review. This is a good game and I have a lot of fun and will keep playing it... even if it is very frustrating to play currently. Just feel like I need to warn people/express my frustrations with this big problem I am having currently.

One positive thing I will say as a final note; the community in this game is wonderful everyone is extremely nice and really helpful. On my first day people actually came up to me and were asking if I need any help (I guess they saw my confusion haha!) This has to be the least toxic MMO I have ever seen. In an MMO, that is a massive plus!

Ninjalex HQ
Ninjalex HQ

The game is actually based on a great MMO RPG idea and has in general a welcoming and helpful community, BUT! The game has become a time-burner / grindfest which i discribe in the following

-COMBAT:

they tried to implement a combat system for swordfighting that uses horizontal and vertical strikes,
which doesn't detect like 50% of your attacks, due to laggy enemy behavior and a clunky engine.

-BALANCE:
What Balance?!
Mages are the best overall class for tank, dps and healing all together.

Blademasters are in close proximity to every heavy damage source and get practically killed before they are able to stay alive to deal the damage they could. They can however stack a damage multiplier on enemies...
Even so they are more involved in combat which is more fun imo - stuff mentioned above kills the vibe.

+OVERWORLD:
The world of Zenith is amazing. It looks great, has a lot of variety and the leveling was quite fun.

BUT!!!

At first you were able to fly in a sort of T- pose with a little glitch you had to master, to get to places really fast and easy. That was a LOT of fun!
Then with the latest update they removed this glitch, which forced you to "fast travel" -
This "fast travel" teleports you to a desired place on the map and in that process you are forced to stare at a black loading screen for like a minute that feels like hours of my lifetime passing by (even with the fastest SSDs on the market...)

Until they start fixing the adressed issues with the game and focus their attention on real problems and not the removal of a fun flying style I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR NOW

Thanks you if you made it this far >:)

SPEC

Im 201 hours as of posting this. I quite love what this game could be and should be.
Im going to state why im not recommending this game and think this company is doomed to fail or even trying to fail. I assume , without evidence , as they got a decent chunk of money for financing they now can misuse this cash without worry.

Pro: game is explorative and feels rewarding in early game.
Con: the exploration ends with in a day or 2 if you play more than 30 mins a day and rewards instantly degrade to time locked repetative grinding.

Pro: style of graphics is somewhat fun and works well with vr
Con: the style feels good momentarily until you notice that every single person at level 40 is wearing the exact same gear, thereby making 40 photocopies of mages in the town center " more on mages in a sec"

Pro: mage class feels good to play as tank , and healer for the most part. Tank is tanky Healer is mobile
Con: Mage tank is so much "overall" stronger and more useful all other classes are straight up bad you would just choose them for the fuck of it with one exception " a couple healers in raids"

Pro: blademaster class feels very interactive dps feels truly impactful
Con: blademaster is directly worse than mage. Their dps is high " only if you can sustain, which you cannot without a group looking to keep you alive" , and after playing the mage " who is weak as fuck" the it feels nice.

Pro: cooking minigame to make your food is pretty involved.
Con: food is basically worthless until your level 40 in raids , cooking mechanis are literally just broken as they never added certain options so you see them but cant do it.

Pro: class skills are semi choosable , you can find and level up randomly dropped skills equiping them give you some control
Con: Class skills not only dont always function, but parts of them dont function at all , as well as some skills are shown that you cannot unlock just becase they didnt add them " other than names and level to get "

Pro : can level each subclass without making a new character
Con: you basically have to level as a tank unless you want to make the game significantly slower , as well as the tank does more damage " as you can easily sustain it" while leveling.

Pro: semi open world, feel cool you can just run anywhere you want
Con: game is poorly directed and leveling questline is not balanced, making some parts super fast then making you stop suddenly to level up by going backward and grinding events or just wandering around like an idiot wasting time to get to the level to start the story again that will possibly just make you stop again. It hapens in the 20s and 30s a few times.

I can Go on and on an on but lets say the worst possible thing here:

THe devs straight up dont communicate , respond to tickets, bugs, reports anything. On top of this and where i see something terrible and hopefully just them being imcompitent: Instead of fixnig bugs and making skills actually work, or adding the skills they already added that just dong do anything or cant be accessed. They are now instead working on rleaseing new content. Not only that but instead of balancing the classes making them all playable and worthwhile they are just goin got make a new class

Id say that this game feels like a bunch of people who read a reviewer talk about things that make mmos : common tropes of the genre, then chose to cherry pick , crafting system, cooking system, group dungeon and raids a dungeon finder etc. THen they googled what those things are then told someone else their interpreitation of what they read who also didnt know what it was. Then that person did the same thing to their team who also never played any mmo. They each program a part not knowing how ti would function together and not talking to eachother about it. Then release the game and when it dies they say " hey lets make more shit becase we need more players " Dont fix our fuck ups because who gives a shit.

basically the game is nearly a good game but the path they are taking is so awful there is no way no one sees it there. So play this game now if you want to play it all because it likely wont be around long as the devs are just strangling it to death.

Oh and the only reply ive gotten so far is for bug reports , please submit this to feedback. blah. " so they can ignore it "
And a player allegedly working with devs telling me that if i dont like it dont play it " fuck the customer in other words"

This game is not good, and this is coming from someone who’s actually played. Not some half-assed virtual reality Youtuber that only played the starting area.

I played this game from launch, starting on the Quest. I moved over to Steam because the sheer lack of optimization.

$35 million dollars in funding and this game just feels like an unfinished tech-demo. Not a single Kickstarter goal has been fulfilled yet and it’s been half a year this game has been released. I still don’t understand how this game got past Meta in terms of quality control.

There are so many bugs, godstone upgrades that don’t even function, so many pointless features like guilds, and devs that don’t listen to the people. For a game in VR, this game lacks immersion A LOT. There is little to no interactivity with your environment. The most you will get is buttons, levers, or turning knobs. That’s it, not even an exaggeration. The game feels empty.

The state of the game right now is okay. The community is overwhelmingly positive and the map looks really good. But there is just no point in playing this game if there is pretty much nothing to do. The worst thing is I really love this game. I’ve gotten BM 40/40/40 and EM 1/31/33 and I’m most likely going to keep maxing out this game because I still want to get a head start into new content. But only 6 months from release we got our FIRST major update, I don’t even know if I’ll be playing this game until the next major update.

End game is horrible. The only thing you can do it either go do dungeons and raids or help low levels at the starting area which tends to be more fun than actual content. The endgame consists of only a couple steps. Log in, do your daily dungeons, roulettes, or raids, and log off. And that takes around 1 hour. In terms of content there is nothing else other than maxing out subclasses.

This game has so much left to be desired. The only way I would recommend you to get this game is for the community. You have more fun with the community than the story content. If you come for the RPG side of things, crash land your expectations because this is not what you’re expecting.

Liked the game for the first day. Then I logged in the next day and met someone level 17. Personal opinion, but I enjoy games where:

Time ≠ Levels
Skill = Levels

Gameplay is fun, if not a bit repetitive. Swordsman is basically wave it around until they die, haven't tried mage. Quests are boring, because it's just the same quest from before but with different text and more enemies. Only played until level 9, so not sure if there are any puzzles in the game. Didn't find any myself, which makes it a one-trick pony.

Also, the NPCs are really boring. They only exist to give the players quests, and have no other backstory, or really anything that makes them interesting to talk to.

On the topic of story, I may not have made it far enough into the game, but I couldn't even figure out if there was a story to begin with. You should be able to tell if there's going to be a story or not in a videogame, but i'm not sure.

Game just isn't for me.

CLASSES

While i may not be the best person to write a review i hope this comes in handy when you decide on buying this game. I first played this game on the release day and immediately fell in love with the game, it was beautiful, fun, and most of all an all around enjoyable experience. But it did come with some negatives how ever, the first thing i did was create a DPS sword character as i personally love swords and i expected a smooth clean sword class and unfortunately i was mistaken it was very odd, first off the swords would not stay in your hands and they were kinda of just floating cause there was not a grip, to add there was a limit to how fast you can swing a sword and sense it was a DPS sword class i expected an ability to swing fast, and lastly it had a weird way of using abilities as you cant see how to use abilities causing you to have to memorize the sword swings to use abilities and left me spending hours with the memorizing part of using the sword. If i have to say anything about the sword it is usable but personally it was not fun to use.
Now i would like to touch on the mage. The mage is usable but i found it to leave the sword class in the dust as it was a way too strong in comparison. if you have ever heard the saying never bring a knife to a gun fight this is exactly what is happening in this game, the sword class is close up and makes you take damage and most likely die against stronger enemies, on the other hand the mage can shoot bullets almost with no cool down and get on a rock and shoot anything they like with no consequences. In this game there is no PVP but if there was i think sword class would absolutely fail in that case mostly because the mage has such a large range of mobility something you would expect from a sword class. To finish off in my opinion the mage is way too powerful in comparison too the sword class.

WORLD BUILDING, AND ABILITIES

World building is something i expect from any game that holds the name of RPG. The world building in zenith is mediocre in the least but this is something i'm gonna tread carefully around because i have to give zenith some breathing room as it is an MMORPG, the hardest type of game to make. I'm gonna start with the story after playing through the story i think is pretty good and thats all i'm gonna say if you like story you will probably like Zenith. The design of the world itself is amazing i do feel they added a lot of work to the design of the game and not the story but it did make it a beautiful expeirience. and too finish with abilitys the controls are great and i do definitely agree with the controls.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION

Yes i definitely recommend this game it could use a little work and i want to say this is all my personal opinion and im not trying to argue or disagree with anyone. and im gonna say that i was a little serious it is an MMORPG and a very hard game to make so sorry if i was a little to tight on the report.

Hope this helps thanks for reading

All i can say is, Not yet. there's only 2 classes, a barebones combat system, and little to do until you reach the level to do raids and dungeons. there's some SAO tier potential here, but as of right now it's just not engaging enough to keep my attention.

Wait until we get more classes, abilities, or other things, because right now it won't be worth the time. hopefully the devs work on these things and make this game the best it can be

EDIT: I've seen your response, and I do intend to check in as the updates come in, and if I am pleased, I will eat my words and rewrite this review. Your team has the tools and methods to make something great, and I'm interested to see how it goes!

A bit boring. But a really good game.

Mr. Bitches
Mr. Bitches

pretty good VR mmo. it's a standard theme park mmo where you enter a new zone, pick up a laundry list of quests and once they're complete, move on into the next zone. currently there's only 2 classes but i only played one, which is the blademaster. combat is very interesting and unique; you have a bread-and-butter 3 hit combo and the third hit gains effects based on the type of godstone equipped and the direction of the 3rd slash (either horizontal and vertical) additional skills can be activated by holding down trigger and changing the direction of your swing.

the most recent update added a dungeon matchmaking system with 6 additional dungeons. they were fun for the first few days but now every group just wants to speed run everything so you can't take your time fighting mobs. that's a total bummer and really takes the fun out of it. can't comment on raids since i haven't done one but i've read good things about them.

the best feature in this game: gliding. it is such a wonderous feeling to soar through the skies off a mountain
