Finally a polished casual Zombie wave shooter. This game is up there with the rest of solid VR shooter games such as Brookhaven Experiment, Arizona Sunshine, Raw Data, Robo Recall, and Blue Effect.

What makes this game special is that it has a cartoonish feel to it. Think of it as half way from Zombie Trainer to Brookhaven Experiment. In other words, it's the perfect show and tell title for friends visiting.

Note: at release the game was more or less unplayable on the Vive. However, the developers quickly (actually the first working day since release) fixed the issues.

Pros
- Polished graphics.
- Well optimized.
- Excellent and halloween creepy atmosphere.
- Nice gunplay, i.e., sound and animated recoil.
- Many weapons to unlock during gameplay.
- Automatic reload, great for beginners of VR.

Cons
- As all wave shooters, it gets repetitive.
- Melee weapons feel a tad off.
- Automatic reload, not so great for experienced VR players.

Initially, I had given this game a negative review due to poor implimentation of sound cues and the game locking up at the kitchen level. Since my last review, however, the developers have addressed the problems with a patch.
I'm changing my review to a recommendation for the game's colorful and beautiful visuals. I think this will be an enjoyable zombie wave shooter for people who find other zombie games too scary or stressful, since the zombies in this game are actually kinda cute (the baby zombies skip along like children at play!). The way the zombie blood splatters cartoonishly like neon juice from a watermelon is fun and satisfying. At a little less than an hour in, I haven't finished the game yet, but so far it has been fun.

Not Enough zombies, they start at huge distance some times, most of the enviroment you cant interact with or effect in any way. Till you get to the house when things got closer quarters it was fun, things moved when you shot them, The guns, Ak nice, Ump was shit it sprayed all over, Shotgun was a joke, using the pistol in the situation in which they introdcued the shotgun worked 100% better. A to move foward.... I dont have one them I got to the part with the swinging fridge and could not hit the A button to go further so I forced quit and have requested a refund.

I thought the graphics were in the right direction and idea is there but it needs more work for it to be $19.99.

Perfect example of a game done right visually but horribly with the gunplay and audio for the HTC vive. guns dont line up properly with the controller, have to tilt the controller waay forward to shoot straight. Sound is poorly done, sounds like something is right next to you when in reality they just spawned 250 ft down the street. and with it being a wave shooter, the gunplay is OK at best. in my opinion shooter games in the VR category that doesnt at least give you an option to actually reload the gun apart from pushing a button and watching it happen automatically is lacking a bit on the gunplay.
This game should be early access, not a finished product.

Very fun and pretty game so far. A couple of issues that others have mentioned (angles of guns, audio, etc) but the devs seemed to have patched all of that fairly quickly.

Pros:
Good art style
Graphics and lighting look great
Nice selection of weapons

Cons:
Random audio clipping
Zombies don't make noise when they walk, so you can't hear where they are coming from
No controller vibration with weapons
Can't choose what level to play on
No multiplayer

My biggest complaint about the game is that if you choose endless mode, you have to start from the very beginning and play through some of the less interesting areas before you get to the fun stuff. Why not let us choose which level to play on? From what I saw the zombies always spawn in the exact same order/location.

Overall the game feels unfinished but I'm going to hold onto it hoping that it gets improved upon.

There are a lot of wave shooters out there for VR, but this one is definitely in my Top-5, which says a lot because I've pretty much tried them all! A beautiful, immersive environment with excellent game mechanics and well-balanced gameplay. On top of that there are a lot of different scenes and weapons so it never gets boring. Excellent atmosphere and voice acting as well. A couple of small bugs here and there but nothing serious or game-breaking. Not cheap, but I truly believe it's worth it.

Ranged_Archer …

I had high hopes for this game since it was an Oculus exclusive I figured it must be the best Zombie wave shooter. I play a lot of Zombie Wave shooters and unfortunately its not the best.
The biggest problem is the game is not fun. Weapons aren't satisfying. There's no rumble when you shoot why?
Enemies don't react to being shot. They either get their head blown off or
Dissolve into dust.
It's not satisfying.
The best thing about it are the cartoony environments which are alright but not that special.

I play another similar game that's actually more fun than this and it's only $3.
Sure that game has its own problems, but you can at least look at it and say hey it was only $3. And the weapons are satisfying...

Changing to positive because I do play this game just try to get at a good price.

This game is everything you want it to be. Fun gunplay with a TON of weapons to choose from. A variety of zombies types. Challenging story mode and Endless modes. And to top it off stylish graphics that immerse you with their unique visuals. I've also noticed the game is optimised to run at a high frame rate because all the animations and FX looks so smooth!

If you like shooting/hitting waves of zombies with awesome looking weapons, then look no further than this game!

Terrify_Me

I like it, just played first two levels but seems like it's going to be a really fun game and good one to add to my collection of VR titles. I'm a VR sissy and skeered of zombies but the cartooney-ness attacted me to this. Maybe it will help me get some VR balls to play the more intese stuff.

Zombie Riot is a fun cartoonish style game where you go from location to location killing zombies using different types of weapons along the way.

The graphics- the graphics are like I said cartoonish but that is a good thing. It's just a game to get away from the realistic zombie games like Brookhaven Experiment. However the only issue I had was when I waved my hand the gun doesn't stay in my had. That was slightly concerning & hope the developer fixes that issue.

The guns- the guns are cool to use like the pistols, assault rifles, shot guns, sniper rilfes even uzi's. Every gun also sounds different which is exellent to detail. The only issue I had was sometimes the gun would freak out and go out of bounds for me and that is a mega concern and needs to be fixed ASAP.

The zombies- I was disappointed at the amount of zombies that were in the game. Walkers, minis and mega but they get reskined into a orange or blue which was boring to see.

Relaod Machanic- relaoding guns is simple, just push up on the sensor pad and the guns will relaod automatically.

Zombie Hits- zombies I found have a tendance to hit me through a wall in the kitched of the house. This was ticking me off, I even moved away from the wall and still got hit. No idea if I had a bug or what but I managed to deal with it.

Zombie Riot is a fun VR game and is nice get away from the realistic zombie games. With the issues I meantioned the game gets a 7/10 score. It can get a 10/10 if the issues got fixed but a 7/10 is a fair score.

That's the pony review

Pros:

1.Game looks great .....environments really pop and effort looks like it was put into it (the visuals anyway)
2. character models look great and animated very well

Cons:

1.extremely simplistic gameplay......its another stand still wave shooter
2. enemies just run mindlessly at you or at what youre defending ...shoot kill repeat....thats the whole game

over pricing is the main reason for the negative review

Great VR wave shooter, this is usually the first game I will show to people when they are trying VR out for the first time. It is simple at first and then builds to more advanced in the endless mode. The last level is a bit broken as it just sits there and repeats enemies (I wish it went back through the loop or did some of the campaign levels). But this is lots of fun to show people... they always seem to keep looking one way and turn back to see a zombie staring them down and scream :D

JERICHO
JERICHO

Hands down best wave shooter on Vive!

Pros:
- Beautiful graphics! I love the designs of the environments and characters! The glow emanating from the zombies is such a nice touch and the variety of different enemies is great.
- Great character animations and effects!
- There is a nice variety of weapons and reloading is fast and easy.
- Some people don't like only being able to stand in one spot and shoot but I rather enjoyed it thoroughly.
- The sound effects are nice and the atmosphere is fun and creepy at the same time.
- I love the text that pops up after killing zombies.
- Shooting from the back of a pickup truck was really cool and I didn't get queasy because it moves slow enough.
- High replay value.
- First game I wanted to pick up and play again after I beat it.

Cons:
- All the levels were great except for the barn loft level where you had to defend the gas can. Maybe I suck, but it was more frustrating than fun and I thought about quitting at one point, but the levels after are well worth sticking around.
- On wave mode, I wish you would have kept the unlimited ammo like in the campaign. It's frustrating when waves of enemies are coming at you and you have to hold the center button, buy a new weapon, exit, and then drop your current gun and pick up the new one. It's clunky and frustrating. In addition, when the weapons drop in, sometimes they drop out of the blue box area and I can't pick them up so I end up dying. Also when you do run out of ammo, and you drop your gun, the empty gun reappears on the table where your new purchased guns appear making it difficult to grab a new gun while waves of zombies are in your face.
(Here is my suggestion to simplify wave mode:
1. Keep the unlimited ammo and easy reload like in the campaign.
2. When buying a new weapon either have it appear directly in your hand and give an option of which hand you would like it to appear or keep it on the table and have empty guns disappear while arranging new guns in an organized row so they don't pile onto one another making them easy to grab.
3. Keep weapons on a table right next to you so they don't fall out of the room setup box.)
- Making the 2 side buttons the "drop" function got in my way several times. I would only allow that button to pick up new weapons, not drop the current ones.
- When picking up some of the shotguns the narrator tells me that "I need to use two hands"... but I didn't have to. The first time I heard it I dropped my other awesome weapon only to realize I didn't have to and for some reason I tried to pick it up and it wouldn't let me.
- I wish it was longer, but for the price, I think it's worth it compared to a lot of Vive games out there.

If you are looking for a simple, not too complicated wave shooter that you can jump into and have a few hours of fun shooting hordes of the undead, then Zombie Riot is your game!

way better than i thoguht it would be !

pros: lots of weapons, different areas everytime, decent amount of enemy types(thought they all kind of look the same just have different hit zones and damage intake). it is a wave shooter but it does have a bit of humor and a small background to the story. great cartoon graphics really detailed which i like alot. i also am i fan that its not just killing things and that theres an objective. i also like that there is drops for weopons and double damage etc.

cons: its rather short can be completed in a few hours. the diffuculty isnt too bad i only lost one a few waves. the shotgun is way overpowered and makes those stages really easy but it is still fun ! reloading is too fast gives you no sense of urgancy to reload, you can just run out of ammo and wait a half a second lol

i got the game for 3$ and its extremely worth that pricew highly recommended for some fun ! 8.5/10 for 3$ - 7/10 fro full price

This game is amazing. why? Because the feeling of the guns is amazing and the art style reminds me of sunset overdrive AND THATS NOT A BAD THING, because playside is doing what insomniac won't , but there is this one thing i dont like in this game .there is this gunfire sound that occurs when reloading and its really annoying, but thats my only problem with the game!

First off, beware all pre-2018 reviews. They have not been updated to reflect the fact that the developer has fixed the issue with the guns not lining up with the Vive controllers.

As you may have already guessed, Zombie Riot is a wave-based shooter centered around, well... zombies! Most virtual reality veterans know that it's an unarguable fact that the VR gaming market is oversaturated with both wave-based shooters and zombie themed titles, but don't let that deter you from continuing on with this review and considering a purchase.

Although the concept is far from fresh, Zombie Riot is one of the best games of its kind that you'll find. It's clear by older reviews that the release initially suffered from problems with the guns lining up correctly, but thankfully that has been fixed. The gunplay is some of the most precise that you'll come across in any shooter, making headshots insanely easy even if the enemy is far away. The weapons themselves are pretty interesting, from standard dual pistols to a scoped assault rifle, a pump shotgun that actually has to be pumped, plasma guns, a sniper rifle with a fully functional scope, and so much more. The only thing missing is haptic feedback.

There's also a good arsenal of melee weapons, including machetes, axes, and crowbars. The description on the store page states that there are also chainsaws and tennis rackets, but I never personally saw them in the game, and items aren't hard to miss. There are grenades, but the inclusion of molotovs and flashbangs would've been nice as well. For more explosion goodness, some levels have explodable barrels scattered around. With so many options, it's completely up to the player on how they want to dispatch the zombies; dual wielding guns, one gun one melee weapon, two handing the shotgun or AK-47, or leaving one hand open for grenade launching.

The cartoony visuals of Zombie Riot make the game look extremely impressive in a VR environment. It's got that cell-shaded look that made the Borderlands games so famous. However, it also takes away any potential scare factors, except for the occasional zombie sneaking up on you. Depending on what you're looking for, this could be either a good or bad thing. If you're looking for a more terrifying wave-based shooting experience, check out The Brookhaven Experiment instead.

There are only a few flaws in this game, and the biggest one is the amount of audio glitches. Several times I heard a loud popping as I turned my head from side to side, and during one level the ambient track stopped playing entirely. When you pick up a gun, the narrator has to drone on about that particular weapon and he will do so over the main story dialogue. The soundtrack itself does leave much to be desired, though the gnashing of zombie teeth all around the player is kinda cool.

Other flaws include the lack of a pause button, and the incredibly easy difficulty of the game. After beating the hour and-a-half of Story Mode, Endless Mode is unlocked; along with it, three difficulty levels (easy, medium, hard). I ended up playing on hard and to me it felt like easy. Instead of racking up points in Endless Mode, players gain cash for their kills and the money is then spent on new and better weapons, each with limited ammo clips. In the main part of the game, ammo is unlimited. Even though Endless Mode is fun, it's challengeless. In-game challenges or even Steam achievements would've been a welcomed addition as a relatively cost-effective way to increase the longevity of the title overall.

In the end, Zombie Riot is extremely fun for what it is; a zombie themed wave-based shooter. It has its flaws, but most games do. It's very easy, so it's perfect for beginners of the genre, but more advanced players will find very little challenge. I picked up the game for $2.19 CAD, and that price is an insane deal; if you can grab it on sale, go for it. Full price is not recommended due to just how short it is, and the limited replayability.

Rating: 4.0/5.0 - Excellent, highly worth playing.

This game looks nice and is fun for what it is. It has a story mode and and endless mode. The story takes less than an hour to complete. It's a little easy. I found the handguns were easier to use throughout the game except for when the shotgun was available. I got it on sale for $2 so for me it was worth the price. I wouldn't pay $20 though since it's so short.

Had a blast with this game. Only on the third wave so far, but i loved that the game goes from day to night. The cartoonish, Simpson-esque environments are clean and enjoyable (a relative term--wow, does the zombie apocalypse leave a mess).
There are various types of zombies attacking throughout each stage, with my favorites so far being the glowing zombies after dusk. Definitely worth the price.

The_Inquisition
The_Inquisition

I just bought this game when it was 90% off, and it's still not worth it.

Pros:
-The art style is really cool, and the animations aren't bad either. I like the detail where the zombies stumble around, it makes it at least slightly harder to hit them.
-The gunplay is clean and satisfying.
-I am a fan of the infinite ammo idea, where you only need to reload the weapons. This works well in a wave shooter type game.

Cons:
-The game has less than an hour of playtime excluding the hoard mode.
-It is soooo slow and boring. The entire game feels like a tutorial its so easy and slow.
-Some of the weapons you use as you progress are completely worthless. I found myself just using the pistols through most of the game.
- While you are in contact with another person, you never see them, despite that they are apparently in front of you at one point fixing a truck? Besides the radio-voice, they don't exist. It seems half-baked.
- IT HAS LESS THAN AN HOUR OF STORY. Seriously, I would have been pissed if I bought this game for the full $20.

I'm still refunding this game dispite the discount.

Wave based Zombie shooter with good/cartoonish graphics. It took less than an hour to beat it and then I checked out the "endless" setting. 90% off for this game feels too high considering I may not have the interest in playing it ever again, kinda just a really boring game for all the reasons everybody else already gave. Still frustratingly buggy too, weapons would just fly out of my hands and two handed weapons really worked rough/glitchy. I knew it wasn't "Arizona Sunshine" but I had hoped for more.

Mike EL Hunto
Mike EL Hunto

Pros:
1) Cool zombies (really like the design!)
2) Some sort of "Soft aim" aim assist that seems to make headshots really easy.
3) There are some guns!
Cons:
(other than crashes)
1) Weird af aim where you can have the gun PRESSED to the zombies head and still not get a headshot.
2) Guns will glitch in spot on being bought in endless mode sometimes causing the gun to never move from that spot.
3) Odd health pools sometimes i get a headshot and bang dead but seconds later the same type of enemy will take 8+ headshots to kill.
4) Blue and orange enemies that seem to just be recolor and then beef ups.
5) Orange is supposed to be the lower of Blue howeveri frequently have blues taking less to kill than oranges.
6) Very limited pool of guns... Honestly really small 12 guns ish and then the upgrades to them making 24 guns.
7) Odd performance bugs every now and then like the game just seems to slow down?
8) There is a settings thing on the main screen however i am unsure how to access it as it seems to be a hologram and not shootable or interactable...
9) No movement at all FIXED position!
Before you ask yes i meet the min specs no i dont have a virus yes i am sure i dont have a virus and no i wont run your program that finds them. I worked in IT for years as a cyber security consultant as well as other areas. Yes i tried reinstalling the game and no i wont reinstall steam. No other game does this and yes i did try other games Yes my drivers are up to date no i wont run your "Driver checker tool" that links from some odd site that seems to also have a unsecure connection as well as security certs that arent valid. No i wont run your "problem solver X" i dont care to download some program from some rando website.
Filing for refund! Broken game.

its kinda fun, probably my favorite wave shooter if only for simplicity and style, didnt play through the whole thing because i died and it wouldnt let me restart or go to the menu, i was pretty close to the end though (i think)

-weird audio glitch where id sometimes hear the sound it makes when a zombie attacks the objective, even if theres no objective

-weapons have collision with eachother, so if you accidentally hit your melee weapon on the table and it slides away, its probably gone for good

-pretty generally buggy, but nothing gamebreaking

overall it would be a meh from me at $5, i got it for $2 on sale in which case id say why not, but for $20???? absolutely not, go buy like robo recall and play on revive or something

Beautifully rendered VR fun! While simplistic in its controls, this game brings exactly what first time VR users want, ease of use, a quick to get in on the action. This game is also more kid friendly as the zombies are more "cartoon" and not brains hanging out walking dead realistic! The only downfall I have found in the game is the pump shotgun being somewhat awkward at times and finding myself doing an accidental double pump and loosing a round.

The story mode is not very long but just long enough to pull someone in and let them finish an entire game and give them the satisfaction of completion. The endless horde mode is more challenging and I like the ability to purchase exactly what you want.

For what it is, this game is priced just about right. Playside did a fantastic job bringing a good quality experience to VR and I always have no problem paying a game producer for a quality game.

Okay so this game is awesome but, it just ends way to soon for me. I love zombie riot but I beat it in about an hour and a half. I got it when it was on sale for 2 bucks, making it a steal, but for the normal price of 19$, I'm not 100% sure it's worth it. Besides the story mode there is an endless mode but at least for me it wasn't as good as the story mode. It felt shallow and lacked the charm and satisfying gameplay that the story mode had. There are tons of weapons like snipers, pistols, bats, and crowbars just to list a few. I love the graphics style as well, it's something about it that makes it so unique compared to the average janky, bloody mess that another vr zombie shooter may have. I would say get it on sale. Hope this helps.
6/10, I liked it, but it was way too short. If there is ever a sequel, (which I highly doubt) then I will update this review. For now, this game will sadly stay a hidden gem.

OLDr! Silencer
OLDr! Silencer

Fun game, and I would recommend it except once again lazy development has completely failed to offer the most basic options that have been present in games for the last 30 years.

- No volume control and stupidly loud (thanks for ruining my hearing, it's not like I needed it).
- No way to exit a game without winning it or dying (tedious waiting ensues) or just exiting to desktop and reloading.
- No back button in game select menu (again, exit to desktop and reload required).
- No control config (who the hell uses the touchpad as the default select button?).

Making a game for a VR platform does not mean you can just abandon the basics, and I've seen it done on too many VR games to let it slide anymore. The volume issue particularly ruined what would otherwise have been an enjoyable experience, it was physically painful.

I'm only barely recommending this because it was $2 at the time, it's well made, and it was a bit fun. The only problem with it, is it's a wave shooter, the most boring, uninspired type of VR game that exists. I personally wouldn't buy it for more than a few bucks. But it seems like they put effort into this to make it something worth playing.
