Bardzo fajna gra polecam 2/10 .
An indie game at its finest.
I bought Super Turbo Championship Edition even though I already had the original Guacamelee! and to be honest I didn't even notice any significant difference gameplay-wise. There's been quite a time gap between I played both version, so I was unable to notice anything. But, bro - we're on Steam so I ain't even mad as I got both for pennies.
The theme grabs handfulls from Mexican folklore and is decorating it with lots of humor, which makes the game fun for everyone. Graphics are nice, colourfull, swift and slick with smooth animation. A cool mexican-themed soundtrack is playing in the background and I discovered it is ear-catchy enough, that developers decided to release the soundtrack separately (available on Steam).
Doesn't matter what version you're playing - Gold or STCE, it's a very solid game. I believe "metroidvania" is a popular term to use on such titles as it is 2D platformer with lots of backtracking, as you will be unable to reach some areas until you'll get powers requied to do so.
I am hardened PC player, but let's be honest - keyboard is a device designed for typing, not for gaming. It's been a long time since I ever attempted to play a game using keyboard instead of my X360 controller. And I'm happy to have one, because - oh, boy - I can't even imagine playing Guacamelee! with a keyboard without breaking a finger. This platformer requies a lot from your reflexes and thank god the controls are tight and well responding.
When you start the game fights are just simple button mashing and platforming is not a big deal. But of course as you progress you get new abilities like double jump, wall-jump, etc., you learn new attacks and also you get to switch between dimensions. So, Guacamelee! is not inventive platforming wise, but isn't it fun if the game is so well made? And it is actually one of the rare games, where all your abilities are not just useful, but they are mandatory to master, so you'll be able to use them in-game. You will have to train your fingers to respond quickly. Simple button mashing to fight enemies at the beginning quickly won't be any effective as you will encounter a lot of enemies that will require certain tactics to down them. As there may be a lot of enemies onscreen sometimes I never felt the fights are chaotic. They just require quick eye-to-finger response as they are challenging, but thanks to the wise use of colour palette it comes with ease to get used to some tactics. (Unless you are using a keyboard).
And mind, that your abilities are useful not only for battling the enemies, but also during platforming. There will be a lot of trial and error, especially when you'll attempt to get some hard to reach collectible.
Sometimes I really missed good old days, when side-scrolling platformers were real deal. It was actually a while since indie game developers could get to the level that was available last time on SNES (I'm not counting Gameboy). Because there's actually plenty of games in that category, but very few of them are good and even less of them are great. Thanks to Steam, we can play a lot of them on PC, as Guacamelee! was previously available only for the consoles. Guacamelee! may not be great. As I said, it is not very inventive. But there is something fresh about it and it is so damn well made, that it's just plain fun. Of course it's a modern game, so it's more forgiving than the SNES era - there are save points and lifes are unlimited. Which I consider a good thing, since the era of memorizing the whole levels is long gone, so it will keep you away from frustration.
It is helluva fan, folks.
8/10
- Phenomenal.
- Full of memes.
- "Mucho mexicano humor"
- Interesting story and (although it gets repetitive over time) gameplay
- You can supplex a skeleton or somersault over a chupacabra
- Unique setting of game's world
- BEAUTIFUL soundtrack AND artstyle (warning: your eyes and ears may melt from awesomeness, play for your own risk)
- Platforming sequences which require skill, not luck
- Challenging and very rewarding 100% completion
- One of the best metroidvanias in the century
Jedna z lepszych platformówek ostatnich lat.

Świetna gra, szkoda, że tak mało znana
Wspaniała gra. Grafika i soundtrack boskie, satysfakcjonująca walka i możliwość tworzenia przeróżnych combo.
Sprawia to wszystko mnóstwo frajdy.
